  1. One of the two leagues I'm in is just about to finish our first year with 8, and although I was very skeptical about the switch from 6.5, I can say it's not bad at all. I think Toby hit it on the head with his analysis. The league that I'm in that still uses 6.5 feels really "old school", or maybe just "old". I like 6.5 alot, but 8 was and is a nice upgrade. And yes, 7 was a ginormous turd. That was one of the reasons for my skepticism.
  2. Saw it today and enjoyed it quite a bit. Robert hit it on the head with the major points I walked away with: 1) Downey is perfect, 2) it's not heavy in the least, and 3) Bridges' character is woefully underused/underdeveloped. Being a big Bridges fan (one of my top 5) I may be a bit biased there, but it would've been great to see his character developed more. In fact, if they could have used the 1st film (of many, I assume) as the origin, and the antagonist some other villain, then carried Bridges throughout, they could have had him as the bad guy in the next film, and that would've worked out nicely. (Holy run-on sentence...yikes). It'll be fun to see Howard get to put on the armor as well. Still think Dark Knight is the #1 must see for me this summer. Indy, Wall E, and Hellboy 2 close behind. And I have yet to have seen a spot for Hulk that thrills me at all.
  3. Had mine for a little over a month, and Galaxy is the only game I deliberately purchased...my daughter loves it, although I think it's a tad easier than Super Mario 64. That said, Wii Play and Wii Sports are tremendous fun. I honestly don't know when I'll buy another game, simply because those three will hold my interest for quite some time. Pick up the remotes and play. You'll get into it. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  4. I caught this as well, during ESPN's recap. I saw it right away, and they didn't mention it. Seemed a little odd to me, wonder if anyone will ask him.
  5. Well, with this thread and the beer thread, my entire diet is covered here at BF.net. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif Alright, not quite, but I love cereal, generally have a bowl or 2 every night. My late night snack of choice, I guess. We almost exclusively go in for the Malt O' Meal bagged stuff. Just as good, and, of course, cheaper. Marshmallow Mateys, Maple and Brown Sugar Mini Spooners, Honey Buzzers, Frosted Flakes, Golden Puffs, Raisin Bran, Cinnamon Toasters, Honey Graham Squares, Honey & Oat Blenders...geez, I eat alot of cereal. Those are my favorite M-O-M's, although my all time favorites are Cinnamon Life and Cracklin' Oat Bran, but I'm getting old and getting more frugal, and just can't justify spending that kinda dough of what is usually a very small box.
  6. Yeppir, very neat. Go here to see the first teaser trailer. Or, if you have Time Warner digital cable, go to "movie trailers on demand" (ch. 1405 in the Fox Valley). You can see it there also.
  7. Very much, thanks to you. Funny story: My lovely 7 year old daughter and I wanted to play bowling. She tends to get a little frustrated with games if she can't figure them out, so, before the match, I was trying to teach her how to stand, how to hold the remote, when to let go of the button, blah, blah, blah. Can you guess what happened next? She nailed 6 strikes. Blew me out of the water. We're all playing the Wii Sports and Wii Play more than the only other game I've bought so far, Mario Galaxy. And yes, I have, in fact, smacked her in the back while playing tennis. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif I hope it wasn't some subconscious revenge force that made me do it. Beat me at bowling will ya...http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/devil.gif
  8. I always liked Empire At War/EAW:Forces of Corruption. Can't say that I've played all the ones mentioned, aside from one of the Battlefront games...can't even remember which it was now, but I enjoyed it enough. Wish someone could make just one Star Trek game that was decent.
  9. Roaming around Toys R Us today, and saw these- We named the dog Indiana As cool as cool can be, ya know. I proally would've dropped the cash and bought all of them, but the shelf was bare. Seems others think they're cool as well. Now I just need to think of a way to rationalize getting them to my nice lady friend. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif
  10. And that was the reason for the huge drop off in quality between "Rendezvous With Rama" and the following 2 books. While the first is a sci fi classic (just reread it a couple months ago), the following two, penned mostly by Lee, were, uh, not so good. Though I reread Rama 1, I have no intention of purchasing, or reading, the other two. Not to skew this discussion off the great Mr. Clarke, but I just bought and reread Greg Bear's "Forge of God". Another classic that had a less than stellar follow up, "Anvil Of Stars".
  11. Ah, man. My favorite author. 4:00 a.m. and my day is ruined already. elbobbo82, have you read 2061:Odyssey 3? I believe it trumps the first two in the series, and would've made a great film. Rest in peace. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  12. I'm in, always up for embarrassing myself.
  13. Sorry to do it this way, and feel free to delete it after a day or so, but I can't find an email addy through Jason's yuku page.
  14. Had the same problem here for several months. Longest it's ever been out was maybe 3 days, and it only happens sporadically (knock on wood). When I bought my new computer in March of last year, I had to d'load the correct driver for the modem. It's a Motorola, and the unit that we have isn't made anymore. Apparently not for a while, either. 3 in one year? Yikes. Maybe I should appreciate our only semi crappy modem more.
  15. Scary as it sounds, and it is scary, I've been playing softball for the last 20 years, multiple leagues per year, with the same glove my father used for 10 or so years before me. As cbustim says, it's just formed perfectly to my hand. Plus, I've gotten to point where I just can't bring myself to buy a new one. Last summer, I had 2 of the laces break, and replaced them with zip ties. I plan on taking it in to be re-laced soon, but I just can't buy another one now. 'Course, I had some, ah, difficulty last year with the 16" inch league. But it's worked well at shortstop (and anywhere else I may have played) for me all these years.
  16. Oh, man, I forgot the rhubarb! There's a leaf burning barrel in the back yard, and to the side of it, a "clear" spot where there wasn't any grass growing. Being September, we just figured that that was where the previous owners piled their leaves and twigs for burning. So, we did the same. Only it snowed before we could get all the stuff burnt. Fast forward to about March, lots of the snow is gone and I go out and kick at the leaves, spread 'em to try to get them dried out for burning, and there's a 7' by 7' patch of rhubarb just growing like crazy. Of course, it was all white, not having any sun, but we had rhubarb stuff very early and a ton through the summer. I'll concur with that. Grew ours in between tomatoes and it worked like a charm.
  17. In September of '06. My nice lady friend bought a house in fairly residential Menasha that has 2 acres of land, easily the largest plot in the area. The previous owners planted and maintained 7 apple and 7 pear trees, an approximately 30 yard strip of currants, an equal size strip of grapes, and a 30' by 15' raspberry garden. We were more than happy to continue the maintaining http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Last Spring, I plotted out and created a 35' by 15' garden, sandwiched between the raspberries and some of the apple trees. We trekked to Jung's Gardens in Stevens Point (hour or so drive) and bought $60 worth of seeds. Unfortunately, I was hurt most of last year so the garden didn't get all the attention it probably needed, but we were still overloaded. Ended up with 2 types of sweet corn, 6 types of tomato (the "super sweet" cherries, my all time favorite, were unbelievable-had 'em coming out of our ears), 4 types of cukes (I prefer the pickling to the larger, more common table variety), 3 types of lettuce, 2 onions, 2 carrots, broccoli, spinach, radish (funky ones that were white on the outside and pruple on the inside), 4 types of peppers, peas, and beans. The goofy weather we had screwed up my squash, and pumpkins, but I look forward to trying them again this year. I've got some photos somewhere...try to load some up later or something. But you have quite the set up there, jamie. Good luck this year, let's hope the weather is a little more predictable. Have you tried mushrooms? Dying to give those a try.
  18. My card has an S-Video output. I was dumb enough to try and hook it directly to my standard non LCD TV, and the picture she no work so good. Shopping around for HDTV's and such right now, but that TV will be in our theater room, not the living room. Gonna poke around and see what I can find at the site you listed. A thousand thanks.
  19. Thanks, gents, I should also have mentioned that I checked eBay and although I've used it many, many times lo these long years, buying anything electrical via that route makes me uneasy. I'm quite certain that there are many here who have done that, and had zero bad experiences, but it still makes me nervous. Although it finally occurred to me that this was also a way to find out manufacturers' of said devices (Lilliput, etc). Duh. So again, thanks. Wondered, though, why it is that smaller LCD's cost just as much as if not more than some larger units? Is it difficult to squish the technology down?
  20. Here's my situation: in our living room, I have a computer tower hidden in an entertainment center. It is used exclusively for music. I've been looking for a small LCD monitor, flat panel, that will fit inside the same area as the tower so that when I want to listen to tunes, I can just "slide" out the monitor (I'll construct a simple shelf myself), fire up the unit and there I go. The problem is, the smallest monitors I've found with VGA hookup aren't small enough (typically 15" or so). I'm looking for something small, maybe in the 7"-9" size. Those in that size I've found, typically, are automobile monitors, and don't have a VGA hookup. Tried Best Buy (sorry jason), and the guy I spoke with had no idea where to find one, recommended their auto department (of course), and also newegg, which I've tried. Any ideas? Thanks.
  21. "Michael Vick has to stop physically hurting my feelings and dashing my hopes." Well now. If that's something one can sue over, my ex wife owes me alot of money. Like a real lot. Actually, that applies to just about any woman I've ever met. http://static.yuku.com/v2//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/eek.gif
  22. My two favorite lines: "Relax and enjoy the show", and "You do realize they are in first place, don't you?". I should get these lines tattooed on my forehead...or, maybe just put them in my sig. Thank you, Jim. I sure do love levelheadedness. Actually, can we get those lines permanently attached to the top of the main forum page? P.S.-Congrats, end, on your milestone post.
  23. Tsk, tsk. You silly goose, we're not there to win, we're there for the love of the game. http://static.yuku.com/v2//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/tongue.gif
  24. Geez, haven't they closed Sluggers down yet? That was months ago they got busted for the third time (serving to minors). Nice enough bar, too bad they hired a bunch of goofballs. I pretty sure there's a tourney in Harrison the last week of August, but the bar owner who was going to get us into it never got the info out to us. Guess that's what happens when someone promises you something at 2:00 AM...actually, alot can go wrong with that scenario. S'pose I'm lucky that's all that went wrong that night. Actually, if you're bored and enjoy just watching softball, Aug 13th-16th the Appleton City tournament will be going on at Memorial Park. Something to do, I guess.
  25. Get rid of the ivy in center field. Grow some hop leaves or barley out there instead. Be original in your rip off. Leave the roof open more often. I'm sorry, but I hate it when it's 65F and the roof is closed and there are three clouds in the sky. C'mon. I want the old Keg and Slide to come back. I know it won't happen. I also wish Bernie Brewer was just a real guy and not a styrofoam head. I want the microbrews sold by the seat beer vendors as well. I don't like Lite and GD all that well. I'd take a high life if I had to, but I like to get the New Glarus and Sprecher when I can and I'm tired of standing in line for it. Good call on all of those. http://static.yuku.com/v2//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/happy.gif
