  1. Just saw the winners and losers of the trade deadline and he was talking about the Brewers. While I agree with him to a certain degree that the Brewers needed to do something, he was way off on some other stuff he said. First, the Brewers were not going to get a rental pitcher and the market this year was bad other than Lee and Halladay. Second, he said the Brewers just did not have the finances to make a trade. Huh? Mark A. is a genius and the team's attendance is good. I believe we probably have the finances to make some kind of trade. Lastly, he said we did not have the talent to make a trade! WHAT? Hello Mat Gamel, Alcides Escobar, Brett Lawrie, etc... That may have been the dumbest thing a MLB analyst could say. Yes, I am a little upset we did not get a starter, but one pitcher would not make this team 100% better. In the end I like Melvin not giving up the farm to get a mediocore starting pitcher. One other thing, Kirkjen also said the Brewers could not give up prospects like they did last season to get CC. He was saying the farm system was depleted after that trade. Interesting... Edit: Fixed thread title --cc
  2. We should shift our focus to being SELLERS now. We can't win against the Nationals at HOME! This season is starting to go downhill and with the Cards, Stros, and Cubs all playing well i don't see us contending for the playoffs. Our pitching is terrible right now. We need to trade JJ Hardy for some pitching and shift focus to next season. JJ to the Red Sox (only if they can't land Halladay) for Bucholtz. We will actually need to give them more than JJ. JJ and others to the Twins for Liriano.
  3. Burns is terrible! We should send him down and bring up another player for a start. Can't be any worse!
  4. Brewers should trade for Jeremy Guthrie and George Sherrill of the Orioles. They would get another solid arm in the pen and a promising young pitcher who has regressed a little from the previous two seasons. Looking at what the Orioles may need, I believe we can offer them the following: 3B Adam Heether- They have Mora who is aging and they will need a 3B to replace him. Heether is blocked at third base and we have Taylor Green and Mat Gamel. Heether is 27 years old and won't see playing time being in the Brewers organization. OF Calib Gindle- They could use him as a DH or in the outfield in a few years. .380 OBP at Brevard County and has some power. P RJ Swindle and P Carlos Villanueva Carlos is terrible now and we should be able to trade him. Thoughts?
  5. I liked the idea but I don't believe a deal can be made. Huff is owed 8M this year and his contract is up as well. So, if we trade for Huff then what do we do in 2010? Try and re-sign him or let him go and replace with another RF? Huff is also 32 yrs old versus Corey who is 27. Plus, we would have to make sure that Atlanta would take Hart for Vazquez which I don't know if him alone will net Javier. Then you have to think about the Braves and what they will do. They just netted Ryan Church in a deal so he can play RF. Would they keep Church or try and trade him (which no one would want him to begin with). A lot of things to consider for this deal to be made.
  6. No more Tony Gwynn Jr.
  7. I second that!
  8. Alright I really like the idea of Meche and a new trade proposal Heether- He is blocked by Gamel and Taylor Green is a good prospect and is younger. Heether is 27 and playing in AAA while Green is only 22. Royals could use a cheap 3B because they have toyed with the idea of trading Tehean. Chase Wright- Good ERA but is not going anywhere in the system. Low K total does not go well. Heether + Wright for Meche ??
  9. Giving up on Halladay as I think the Jays are asking too much for him. Here are a few that I would like to see us pursue. Gil Meche- The Royals are out of the playoff picture and Gil has had a below average season thus far. 1.50 WHIP is high but he has thrown over 210 inn the last 2 seasons. He is averaging 5.6 inn per start compared to 6.2 last season. He is owed $11M this season and his contract expires in 2011. Offer them Katin (in hopes of getting rid of Gillen's terrible contract), Tim Dillard. Doug Davis- Familiar with the Brewers and will add depth to the rotation. Owed $8.75M this season and his contract ends as well. Prime candidate for a deadline deal for the Crew. Dillard + others. Cliff Lee- Focus should be on him now that Halladay will cost the farm. They can't ask for as much as Toronto because Cliff is in his last year of a conctract. Owed only $5.75M this season. Offer Irrabarren + Villanueva + Gillespie. I would love to get Cliff Lee as he would cost less than Halladay. Start the talks fellas!
  10. If we were to trade for Halladay, I would much rather include Gamel over Escobar. I know Bill Hall is terrible, but we do have a few solid 3B that will be ok. McGahee is cheap Heether is putting up a .435 OBP in Nashville thru 56 games. OPS of .992 this season compared to .829 last season. Green .384 OBP in AA. Left handed with some pop. .382 OBP last year in A ball. Here is my proposal: 3B Mat Gamel C Angel Salome RF Caleb Gindl P Trey Watten
  11. Wow. Looked like Pujols went around there. Sveum gets ejected and then Randolph. I agree this ump needs to be fired! Lot of fishy things going on especially with that bases loaded walk to end the game in Chicago. Right down the middle... ball 4. Wow!
  12. If we deal for Davis and Lopez this is what needs to happen. First, Lopez must play 2B on a regular basis. Don't let him platoon with another player. He will need to play every day. Last year when Weeks struggled and we picked up Durham I was all for the move. But when he platooned with Weeks Durham was not very good. He played a lot in SF and when traded, his playing time decreased. This can't happen with Lopez. Second, Hardy will play SS as usual but may start to get a few days off here and there. Lastly, Gamel gets sent down to AAA and McGhee plays 3B. Let Gamel get some more AB in Nashville. He will be a September call up anyways. Ride McGhee because he is playing well.
  13. Jeremy Guthrie- Below 4 era in 2007 and 2008. Orioles are probably going to be in sell mode. They will probably be looking at an outfielder and third baseman. Gillespie + 3B. Gil Meche- Innings eater. era will be around 4. Brendan Katin + Ian Snell- Went down to AAA upon request and struck out 17 in 7 innings. Katin + Doug Davis + Felipe Lopez- I was not in favor of this proposal but now I am growing to the idea. Davis will have a sub 4 era and has experience with Milwaukee. Lopez can get on base and good 2B. Also, Davis pitches a little better after the AS break. 3.37 era and a whip of 1.20 career at Miller Park. Offer them a pitching prospect + 1B + Irribaren.
  14. Kawakami left tonight's game with a neck injury after being hit by a ball. There is absolutely no way they trade Jurrjens. Young pitcher with a lot of talent and upside. I really don't know if they would trade Vazquez either. Hudson is coming back but he is recovering from elbow surgery. That is a iffy situation right there and I don't think they would trade a pitcher just because Tim Hudson is coming back. I honestly don't think we are going to be doing anything with the Braves.
  15. Potential trades: Jeremy Guthrie- Young right hander that can pitch. Started the season slow but is coming on a bit. They need an outfielder and maybe a second baseman and thid baseman as well. Pie is not anything special in left field and Mora is getting old. Cliff Lee- Would have to give up a lot to get him but would be a great addition. Indians are 12 games under .500 so I would think they are in sell mode. Probably not going to happen because Melvin does not want to give up our best prospects. Jarrod Washburn- Makes the most since. He is a Wisconsin guy and dealing with Jack is a plus. He also is averaging 6.4 inn per start this year. Ricky Nolasco- Very good 2008 season but has struggled a lot this year. Maybe a change of scenery will get him back on track. I honestly don't know if the Marlins will part with him but he is a strikeout machine. Doug Davis- Ok option that makes since. He used to play for Milwaukee and has a 3.53 era this year.
  16. Bullpen- - Hoffman - Riske - McClung - Villanueva - Stetter - Coffey - Julio-DiFelice- Morlan (Morlan is the rule 5 guy so if he doesn't make the roster, he will be back with TB. I really see Julio making the team here with DiFelice starting the year in Nashville) Aguilar should be really good as well but needs some more experience in the Minors.
  17. Way to go TT. Losing out on a major FA in Chris Canty. He is signing with the Giants now. We have cap room and are doing nothing with it. We lost Cole today to Seattle. Make a splash at least Ted! This defense needs a couple of good FA instead of always sticking to your "build through the draft" mentality.
  18. Only a matter of time now until we see the Dodgers give in and accept their counter offer. Same deal but no deferred money. I believe a deal will be done by the end of the weekend, Monday at the latest.
  19. Not really worried about the big name pitchers on the club that are secured a spot. They typically use ST to work on their pitches. The people we should really be concentrating on are the players competing for a spot as well as guys trying to get experience at the ML level. Duffy... 1-3 rbi k Nixon... 0-2 Aguilar Coffey... 1 ip 1 h 1 k DiFelice Dillard Julio... 1 ip 2h 2er 1bb 1k 1hr Morlan... 1 ip 1h Swindle Wright Salome... 0-1 k Escobar... 0-3 w/ 5 lob Gamel McGahee... 0-2 Gwynn Also would like to monitor Weeks, Hart, and Rivera
  20. This one is beyond me. I just don't get what he and Boras are thinking. Rejecting a 2/$45 contract. Even more astonishing are the details. I believe it was $25M the first year and a player option for 2010. He could take the money this season and test the market again next year. I guess I can see what they are thinking because the Dodgers are really out of options in regards to available FA's, but turning this down is killing baseball. Spring training has started and a major piece has not signed yet. I can just imagine the amount of boo's he is going to get this season. Him and A-Rod may be competing for that title.

  22. Way to go Duffy! Didn't Nixon hit a couple to the wall yesterday?
  23. I believe Yost was a big factor in Kendall wearing down last season. He appeared in 151 games which was his most since 2001. Rivera should get more playing time and I like him to be paired with Parra.
  24. 1. Closer- Hoffman ($6M w/ possible $1.5 in bonuses) 2. Set-up- Gagne... 92mph fastball to set up Hoffman= beautiful ($1.5M w/ possible $2M in incentives) The rest: 3. McClung ($1.6625m) 4. Villanueva 5. Stetter 6. Riske ($4.25M) 7. Julio ($950K w/ possible $600K in bonuses) or Coffey ($800K w/ possible $50K in bonuses) I see a battle for the last spot between Julio and Coffey. Dillard, Aguilar, and DiFelice will be in AAA. Swindle probably won't make the team
  25. Cruz would be my top choice out of Cordero, Cruz, and Isringhausen. I don't want Izzy Cordero would not be a bad choice Cruz can pitch a 94-95mph fastball Someone else mentioned it and I thought the same thing, the Brewers looking at these guys makes me believe that David Riske has an injury. If we had a healthy bullpen, we wouldn't be looking to add another imo.
