  1. Great to see Gwynn score the game winning run, great to see him get his chance, his shot. It wasn't ever coming with the Crew. This kind of trade is great for the karma of a baseball team, unless Hoffman has to face Gwynn with the playoffs on the line. :| Trading Gwynn for Gerut was a real steal. Gerut has to be pinching himself, trading Petco for Miller. Doug Melvin strikes again!
  2. Hitting 35 HR in 2006 was the worst thing Billy could have done to himself. I don't want 2006 Bill Hall to return, I want that Bill Hall from 2004 and 2005, where he hit in the six hole regularly, when he was extremely valuable getting two or three starts a week. That 35 HR year got us all expecting the world from Billy, but that year was a total aberration. From then on, he abandoned the oppo approach, only to come back to it to great success from time to time, only to give up on the approach again and again. Whenever I see Billy up there now, it looks like he is riding for the pull shots all the time, instead of using his natural power to RF. Example; two years back, I went to a game with some college friends. We were high up in the terrace, above the RF foul pole, when Billy came up to bat. He fouled off a few pitches, and then absolutely crushed a ball to RF. My friends and I thought it was gonna get caught by the fielder, but it cleared the fence with about three inches to spare. I've never seen a ball hit that hard before, or make the stands like that, it was a total bullet shot. That is what Billy needs to get back to, to driving the ball to the opposite field. If he can remember 2004 or 2005, instead of 2006, he will be a much better player for us. Start him two or three times a week against LHP for Counsell or Gamel, play him against RHP he has good stats on. Tell him to shoot for doubles and singles to RF, and the inside pitches will come. Billy will never get close to 35 HR again, and his contract is grossly overpaying him, but he can still be a very productive and useful player for the Brewers.
  3. Great to see you on the site Brooks! I was at a game in 2003 or 2004 where you hit the snot out of one to right field for a homer. Greg Maddux had started that day for the Braves, and we got hammered all game. It was something like 9 to 0 when you hit that, and the crowd left their feet. It was the only thing going for us that game. Thanks!
  4. Its hard to have big expectations without CC or Sheets, but I still feel really good for this team. I felt like this team would have to gel in the middle of the season, figure out who is leading the starting pitchers, and what the bullpen pecking order would be. Coffey has been gigantic for us, and Looper has looked really good to start the year. On the flip side, Parra has been getting shelled, Suppan has been Suppan, and Villanueva and McClung look lost. If one of Villanueva and McClung returns to form, along with one of Parra and Suppan getting back, I think we can put our hopes up higher. The offense is starting to get right, Braun is doing well, and all Fielder really needs is one 3-3 or 4-4 game to have a decent average, the same goes for Hardy. I'm liking Bill Hall this year a lot so far, his bat it what I expected, and his glove has been freakish.
  5. The Marlins model has won them two World Series, how many have we won? If fire sales mean championships five or six years down the road, then sign me up.
  6. I was really surprised by how small Trenni was in person. She walked past and I got a pic with her during the Chris Young near no hitter, last September. She really seems like the runner type, and man does she look good on those MLB network broadcasts. She looks good in person too http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Its a shame we can't keep the talent here, Vasgersian, Trenni, and worst of all, Jimmy Powell. At least Darron Sutton is gone. Good riddance.
  7. I usually have a lot of respect for Cardinals fans. The ones I've met have been very knowledgeable, and there is a certain camraderie to be found in hating the same cursed team from the North Side of Chicago. I sat close to a Cardinal's fan on a tour bus to Washington D.C., he was actually born and raised not far from where I was from in Iowa. We talked about things and people from Iowa, and places. We all knew each other's areas well, the Cards fan even knew about my family's bakery in Storm Lake, IA. It was a very odd meeting of circumstances and timing, meeting randomly on a tour bus in D.C. It was fun to talk to him about baseball, because he loathed the Cubs even more than I. And I really, REALLY hate the Cubs.
  8. I've never been comfortable with Riske, something about Brewers relief pitchers with ironic last names. We had Grant Balfour, and he was absolutely terrible for us, but he is great with the Rays. Riske, he was good before, but is he too much of a risk now? Only time will tell. I wish we had someone like Brooks Kieschnick, he was fun. Saw him hit a homer against the Braves, Maddux stifled us all night, the crowd went berserk as that ball flew into the right field stands.
  9. I liked it last year with Kendall batting 9th, it seemed to me like the experiment was going well, except for JJ, who wasn't getting anything good to hit. I think Kendall batting 9th would make even more sense this year. BA talks about Kendall being a .300 hitter again, but I just don't see it. He's past his peak in that regard, although he is a joy to watch behind the plate. He is easily the best defensive catcher I've seen as a Brewers fan, but I've only been paying attention since 2003. Rivera should definately get more playing time. Is he attached to two pitchers now? Bush and Parra? I like him batting standard in the 8th spot. The more of Rivera, the better.
