  1. That's what I was thinking. Seems pretty stupid to burn out your closer trying to win pointless games. But I guess he was a starter and they probably just want him to get work. That's not what I was thinking. The way I saw it is that the Reds got in a jam and they put in their best pitcher to get out of it, even though it wasn't at the most conventional time. If Counsel did this in the 7th (ie put in Knebel or Swarzak rather than stick with Barnes), the Brewers could have very well won this game.
  2. Well, Stearns was asked about it the other day and sounded like it could go either way. This was my issue with the Walker signing. I didn't want to see Villar rotting away on the bench right as things were finally clicking for him . Which is exactly what was happening up until a day or two ago. I am not too concerned about this. Villar has been bad all season long and earned a spot on the bench. However, Counsel manages with this "position player core" or whatever its called and everyone gets playing time. If Villar performs and proves that he is once again worthy of starting, they will find ways to get him into the lineup. If not, then Walker seems to be a much better alternative for the remainder of this season.
  3. Trying to keep it civil..there is no need for that last comment, you dont need to talk down to me. Not a good look for a mod. Neutral observer here. Comments completely fair and civil. You were making comments about Aguilar vs Thames, and he replied with stats. You were commenting about how bad the Giants are, and he reminded they are an MLB team that sometimes wins games. Very fair points which can be refuted but nevertheless quite civil.
  4. With all this uncertainty I was just wondering if there is any chance the brewers wind up in Florida instead? Have there been any rumors about that? Or is this completely off the table?
  5. Is wang still on the Brewers? Would be a good time for him to get an inning.
  6. Was just wondering, couldn't they have called up someone from the minors for a spot start?
  7. I've had it with these phillies fans in the front row staring at their phones all game.
  8. Pulling Braun from the game looks like a bad move now. coukd use his bat.
  9. Probably all in my head but I felt the freefall starting yesterday. You could call it a free fall or you could call it winning 2 of 4 games on the road in July.
  10. We know Sedar won't be stopping him Can anyone share the number of outs made at home plate by team. Curious to see how the brewers compare to the rest of league.
  11. Except no he doesn't. How many CFers are good for 14 HR and a .750 OPS at the break? . By my count only two meet that criteria: Blackmon & Trout.
  12. If Brinson gets the call up, then I would expect both Broxton and Santana to see reduced playing time, but both would continue to play on a fairly regular basis. Counsel likes to rotate the lineup and play everybody. There is also Braun with his lingering injuries and need to sit every so often even when healthy.
  13. I missed the game but was hoping to find comments about how Espino looked. What do people think? Did he look good enough to get another start?
  14. Thanks for the article link. This makes me intrigued to see what this guy can do. Clearly a plan here to try find another older prospect Guerra type. If he performs they can find a place for him in the rotation.
  15. I haven't been seeing many games lately so I don't share your eye test, but Thames has a 1.144 OPS in the past week.
  16. Where do you find these stats showing which team makes the most outs at 3rd base (or home plate for that matter)? And how to the Brewers rate? I am curious if these stats support my eye test, and many others, which tells me Sedar is terrible for the 3b coaching job.
  17. I know this idea probably sounds outrageous but I would love to eliminate calls to the bullpen during an inning. Every pitcher has to record at least three outs.
  18. Indeed, the longest inning I ever recall watching. I was surprised the Nats pulled Scherzer after 99 pitches, one pitch into the 7th, which happened to be a home run but still. It really burned them.
  19. Yeah that really got under my skin too. After the replay Ripken took it back and was like "he definitely went around, strike 3" but either Darling or Johnson refused to admit it. "Hate to see a game end like that." Come on! What? There were other points in the game where they refused to accept what could be seen on replay too. So weird
  20. Agreed you don't want Ubaldo in that situation but what were their other choices? I don't know the answer, but I do know they went to the pen after 4 & 1/3 so the bullpen is pretty exhausted by the 11th or 12 inning.
  21. I have just been waiting for a home run to take the lead and win the game but it keeps not happening.
  22. I was strongly opposed to the wild card play in format when it started, but I have come around and will say now that I like it. Your team wasn't good enough to win the division, but you were good, so here is one chance to go to the division series and play the best team in the league. Bring the best you've got. Tonight's game has been great so far, and tomorrow Syndergaard vs Bumgarner is an exciting matchup.
