  1. Prince Fielder seeks 200 million contract according to Heyman. Mark A hasn't given up on trying to sign Fielder, but doesn't want to give an offer that Boras can use to shop Fielder to other clubs. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/11/prince-fielder-seeks-200mm.html
  2. I'd go 5/90 million for Reyes probably max out at 5/100. Try to defer some salary. If Reyes wants more years, then include a 6th year vesting option based on 1200 plate appearances in years 4-5 of the contract.
  3. If Jose Reyes had a healthy Major League history the Brewers would have no chance at all to re-sign him. None. The money that he would get would price the Brewers out of the race to sign him. This is not the case however, and he should be in the Brewers price range this off-season. The Brewers have a good opportunity to sign an above average SS, which is a serious position of need for them. The Brewers don't have a SS in the minors that would be ready to play everyday in the next 3-4 season (foreseeable future). They just let a SS of whom DM said they liked and thought was better than people said he was in Betancourt go. The Brewers are clearly going after a SS this off season, and Jose Reyes makes a lot of sense financially (the Brewers could likely afford him), and because of the statement it would make to the fan base after losing Prince Fielder to FA, and because he's the best SS available in the off-season. To answer TLB question on if the Brewers can afford to sign both Greinke and Reyes my answer would be yes they can. Greinke could probably be extended for 2 million or so more than what he is making right now per season. He strikes me as a player that would take a discount to play where he is most comfortable and that money isn't the most important factor to him unlike CC Sabathia. Plus, Mark A said to begin last season that he will "let talent dictate payroll", and it's probably the same this season as well. Mark A will likely increase payroll with the additional TV revenue, Retail sales, Ticket sales, ticket price increases, playoff games, and player salary increases.
  4. Give him the money that we have been paying Prince Fielder (15 million a year). You won't have to increase payroll at all to do that. There are players that will get a salary increase based on the contracts that they have already signed and through the arbitration process over the next few years, but the increase in revenue starting in 2013 should make up for it. The Brewers can go cheaper in other areas (Bullpen, 3B, 1B etc..) to help keep costs down with Hairston/Green at 3B, and either Gamel,Hart, Derek Lee (He's just an idea) at 1B. Plus, 2012 is probably Wolf's last season with the Brewers unless they pick up his option (I don't see it happening) and that should free up 10 million or so, and the Brewers have Peralta, Fires, Rivas, Thornburg and perhaps Bradly, and Jungmann who will be making their way to Milwaukee and will be making the minimum salary and will be affordable for a few years thereafter. The question mark with Jose Reyes isn't whether or not the Brewers can afford his per year salary of 15-20 million a season, but rather the long term commitment to a player with his injury history. It will be very interesting to see how many guaranteed years Reyes gets from whoever signs him.
  5. I can see the Brewers extending Greinke this off-season, and making a big FA acquisition for a hitter to help replace Fielder's production. That would say to the fan base that we plan to compete for the foreseeable future year after year.
  6. With the Brewers TV revenue tripling starting in 2013, I can see the Brewers going hard after Jose Reyes. I also wouldn't rule out a Greinke extension this off-season either, but that's another discussion.
  7. I agree completely. Don't bring them back. Towels and the loudness of the Brewers fans are adequate for the task.
  8. Do you need the actual ticket to get into Miller Park for a playoff game? I was going to purchase playoff tickets at stubhub and do the instant download/print. Thanks.
  9. Green has been making some very good contact and having some really good at bats since being called up. Why RR is playing McGehee over Green at this point in the season is actually making me mad. Time to send a message to McGehee.
  10. People already started listing there post season tickets at stubhub.com, fyi.
  11. The Brewers could always use another bullpen arm in September. If he would have signed earlier he "might" have had a chance to pitch in September, but he didn't. I think the Brewers like to have their prospects prove something in the minors before they call them up. That 6 weeks is very important in that regard. I don't think it's unrealistic at all that Taylor Jungmann could contribute to the Brewers ball club as soon as late next season out of the bullpen, and possibly as a starter in 2013 for the reasons I previously stated.
  12. Considering that Doug Melvin said Jungmann could have helped the Brewers out this year if he would have signed earlier means that Jungmann should be in the discussion for 2012/2013. It's highly unlikely that the Brewers trade Wolf in his last season with the Brewers. Especially after the season he's having this year. That my friends is bogus. There has been this sudden push to get draft picks to sign earlier to "get thier careers going". Its a bad argument. Missing 6 weeks of rookie ball of low A is pretty much meaningless. Weighing against that is the risk of injury and having a career flame out in 2 years. It's not bogus if he begins his career in the Brewers bullpen and works his way into the rotation. The Brewers can limit his work load that way. That would allow him to be called up much sooner. It does look like Taylor Jungmann will be fast tracked to the Majors.
  14. He has good trade value for the reasons you mentioned, and is a good 4/5 SP, but nothing more. I don't understand why people want to hold onto this guy when the Brewers have a viable replacement ready to take over who has better stuff and a higher ceiling and is very cheap as well. Also, starting in 2013 Taylor Jungmann could replace Randy Wolf and save the Brewers lots of cash if cost is your concern, and not to mention that Peralta would make the minimum. Narveson is the most likely to be traded in my view.
  15. I'd like to see Narveson traded for a SS, and replaced by Peralta. He seems like the obvious choice since he is the 5th starter. The Brewers might get Manny Parra back in the bullpen next season, since it sounds like he will avoid major surgery this off-season, and could be ready to go by spring training. So, Narveson could very well be expendable. I'd keep Wolf because he is better and is a veteran pitcher. I could really see Peralta in the Brewers 2012 plans. I don't believe the Brewers would be rushing him, either. Peralta seems to have reached a new level pitching wise. He seems ready for a good look at the least.
  16. I hope so. He could be a real wild card out of the pen. He's pitching great since being called up to AAA-Nashville.
  17. Wily Peralta with a you know what through 6 innings. He is pitching great right now. Wow.
  18. @Haudricourt Tom #Brewers LHP Chris Narveson, just of the DL from a lacerated thumb, leaves game in 6th inning with apparent blister on middle finger.
  19. I think giving up Braddock would be a terrible move at this point. I understand he hasn't been great this year, but he's still got the stuff to be a future closer, and he's all of what, 23 years old? Furcal would be a guy we'd take a flier on, not someone you give up someone like Braddock for. We'd be doing the Dodgers a favor in taking Furcal off their hands. Anyway, I'd much rather see them go after Jamey Carroll with someone like Kottaras and someone in the 5-12 range of prospects. In the last two years Carroll's been about a .292/.376 guy who's played very solid defense. Much safer bet than Furcal. I would trade Braddock right now for a SS if that's what it would take. Braddock has lost his velocity and because of it he is less effective. It's more than him being in the doghouse.
