  1. Invader3K, A guy like Grienke's being available for trade and the fact that he'd ok a trade to any team doesn't happen that often. This is a grand opportunity for the Brewers. If I'm the Brewers I'd make every prospect available including Escobar/Cain to KC for Greinke. I'd keep Rogers. If the Brewers land Greinke I believe he would be open to an extension that would make it worth it IMO
  2. If playoffs is on Doug Melvin's mind and getting to the NLCS (past the first round), then he better be thinking Grienke first and Garza second. The Brewers would need an ace to have a shot. That's what the Brewers are lacking right now. The Brewers have a possible number 1 in Gallardo, and 2 number 2's in Marcum and Wolf. I'd feel better against the Phillies if the Brewers had 2 number 1's and 2 number 2's, because I believe they would have a shot against the Phillies with their offense. Granted it's very hard to top the Phillies SP right now.
  3. I see Manny Parra as a very good throw in for a trade. He could put a trade offer over the top. Manny Parra is very valuable to the Brewers out of the pen, but many teams would value Parra the same way. If a team is in need of starting pitching then Manny Parra would be even more attractive to them especially if they are able to be patient with him. At worst they can put him in the bullpen.
  4. Invader3k, I agree that Parra should be working out of the pen, because of his success there in September. I just think the Brewers don't see Parra as a reliever and think that his value is highest as a SP and will trade him to a team that will make him one. I think there are teams that are not in contention that would be interested in Parra and make him a SP. I see Parra getting traded, because of the Brewers unwillingness to say to Parra you are now a reliever.
  5. Garza throws a little bit harder than Shields, but not by much. Shields Garza
  6. The Brewers don't really have a spot in their rotation for Parra and probably wont give him much of a shot in the rotation in 2011. I can see another team not in contention valuing Parra much higher than the Brewers would, because unlike the Brewers the Royals can be patient with him. I don't really think Parra has a role on this Brewers team right now.
  7. Cain, Odorizzi, Jeffress and Parra IMO should get it done and out bid everybody else. I guess KC is looking for up the middle help (Pitching ,SS,CF,2B,C). This is a lot to give up, but the Brewers would still have Rogers and Rivas fighting for the 5th spot in the rotation with the other 4 spots already set for at least a couple years with Greinke,Gallardo,Marcum,Wolf. The Brewers would still have Heckathorn, Peralta, Scarpetta etc.. advancing up the ladders of the system. I would be perfectly ok with this and not feel we gutted the Brewers system and feel we just put all our eggs in one basket.
  8. I'm very glad to hear the Brewers are still in on Greinke.
  9. If the Brewers really want to go for it the next couple years than they will trade for Greinke. He is by far the top SP they could acquire via trade. That would be a big statement to Brewers fans and the NL.
  10. I'd prefer Garza over Marcum for a simple reason.. He throws harder. Lower to mid 90's just like Gallardo. The Brewers need a younger power arm to compliment Gallardo. The Brewers have plenty of soft tossers now. Time to get some power arms in the front of their rotation.
  11. I don't like the idea of a Gomez/Dickerson platoon in CF. I would hope the brewers if they traded Cain would go out and get a Center Fielder. I'd like to see the Brewers go out and get another Left handed bat to go along with Gamel incase Gamel doesn't live up to expectations. It's important that the Brewers have a Left handed regular bat in their line-up once Prince Fielder leaves. I'm also seriously questioning whether Gamel is in the Brewers future plans.
  12. If the Brewers don't land Pavano I'm very curious to see who their plan B would be? I'm wondering if the Brewers are reluctant to pull off a big trade involving their top pitching prospects and that is why they are willing to use their other resource which is cash to solve their pitching needs first. If they feel they have no other options I'm thinking they will pull off another big trade.
  13. I'd like the Brewers to set their sights higher than Pavano. Even if they will have to give up a couple high end pitching prospects to get the deal done like (Jeffress/Odorizzi/Rivas/Peralta). That would be better than spending 30+ million over 3 years for Pavano and surrendering a top draft pick.
  14. If the Brewers sign Pavano does anybody think the Brewers will trade for a 3rd pitcher to bump Narveson from the rotation and make it even more solid?
  15. These talks wouldn't have been productive at all if that was the case reillymcshane. They would be over.
  16. Crawford is a very dangerous player imo. He can beat you in so many ways.
  17. Would anybody do Fielder straight up to Seattle for Pineda? I mean Boston gave up Casey Kelly and a few other prospects for 1 year of Gonzales... I hear from mlbtraderumors.com that Seattle is looking for a DH.
  18. I was flat out in shock that the Brewers were even able to to get Marcum without having to give up any pitching in the trade. Doug Melvin did a very good job IMO.
  19. I have a feeling that Doug Melvin is far from finished and that he might do something bigger than Marcum. link
  20. I understand that. There are other players that he could have targeted that couldn't have possibly had a no-trade clauses. The younger pitchers or pitching prospects. There is really no excuses for him to have turned away from trades to FA like he did and overspend on older veteran pitchers. Even Doug Melvin admitted he probably should have gone a different route. I feel I'm rightfully critical of Doug Melvin, but at the same time I hope he has learned from his past mistakes and I'm willing to give him another chance.
  21. Corey Hart could be a very valuable trade chip now. I can't believe the Nationals gave Werth this big of a contract!
  22. The no-trade comment was from Doug Melvin himself, not me. Doug Melvin has said publicly that pitchers no-trade clauses have prevented deals from happening. He mentioned that there was 24 or 25 pitchers that would block a deal to Milwaukee because they had no trade clauses. I'm not very happy with Doug Melvin and the fact that he hasn't gotten the Brewers pitching by trade regardless of no trade clauses or not. I'm saying that there is no way Doug Melvin can justify not getting pitching via trade this off-season now and this proves it.
  23. Great news for the Brewers. Now Doug Melvin can't use the no-trade clause excuse. The Brewers are pretty much guaranteed to be in on Greinke now.
  24. I'd do Fielder/Peralta to Seattle for Pineda. Without question. Can anybody Imagine Pineda and Rogers in the Brewers 2011 rotation? Trade prospects for an ace like Greinke and that would be even better. Spend available payroll on offense and re-signing Weeks and perhaps Greinke. Rotation would look something like this, Greinke Gallardo Wolf Pineda Rogers That would be a sick rotation for years to come.
