  1. I'd be more worried if our payroll was slashed to 80 million next year after once again going over 90 this year, and the prospect of an 8 figure bump in revenue with a new TV deal.
  2. With the AL East, it's not about simply being talented. It's about being more talented than the Yankees and Red Sox both. Obviously they have talent on the team but I still think it would be dumb to lock up Hardy to an extension (assuming he wants like 7-8 mil/yr), since I believe they have like 3 SS in their top 10 prospects. Yes, obviously they have to be better than the Yankees or Red Sox. The Yankees however are not this unbeatable entity. Again, I point to the Rays. They also are likely going to have to deal with re-signing CC this off-season, Jeter, Posada and Arod are declining and they don't have great pitching. I still don't see why it's dumb. They have very young SS's who are still a ways away, we're sitting here talking about how difficult it is to find a talented young Shortstop, and how hard it'd be to trade for Hardy. So if he actually signs for 7-8 million a year(I think it'll be more) then he should be easy to move. You get good production and then you trade him when your younger guys are ready. Are they suppose to just go with terrible, cheap players until the next wave is ready?
  3. I don't know, I'd ask Doug Melvin. Just to be clear, you're arguing that it's difficult to find a no-hit, all glove Shortstop? We've also had one for the last..what, 8-9 years?
  4. I'd be absolutely thrilled to get him and wouldn't blink at 15 million a year. He's walking nearly 13 pct of the time, and he's been hot as of late. For a guy as talented as he is, at 27 years old, I'd let them take any 4 prospects they wanted in our system for him.
  5. Well, as I said, it's very easily done if you were to pick up a big bat at 3rd base. All you need in that scenario is a defensive SS. They're not the hard to find.
  6. I made a lengthy post saying the same thing. It's incredibly easy to envision the O's turning it around quickly. They have 5 talented pitchers between the ages of 23 and 25. They have a couple guys who are incredibly talented, like potentially the best or top 2-3 in baseball. Weiters is 25 years old and was described as a switch hitting Joe Mauer with 40 HR potential. He's already an elite defender and an all star. Adam Jones is also 25 with a incredible amount of upside still. Markakis is a career .300 hitter and just coming into his prime at 27 years old. Reynolds has an .840 OPS and 20 HR's this year. Obviously Hardy is a very good SS. Britton, Arrieta, Tillman and Matusz are four middle to front of the rotation type pitchers who, again, range from 23-25 years old. They've got a lot of money, and they've been one of the teams rumored to go after Prince. They sign Prince, Weiters and Jones take the next step and they could have a potentially dominating lineup. And they've certainly got the young talent.
  7. Not weird at all. They sign a very good shortstop to play right now while their 19 year old develops, thereby eliminating any need to rush the kid up. And it's not exactly difficult to trade talented shortstops if and when the time comes.
  8. The Tampa Bay DEVIL Rays are a terrible team in the most brutal division in all of sports. They aren't going anywhere soon. Oops...
  9. I would as a Brewers fan. K-Rod still has value as a reliever. Obviously very little to the Mets, but there would likely have been other teams looking at him. To give him away, 5 million dollars, thereby saving only about 3-4 million without the option(which intelligent Mets fans know wouldn't have been vested or picked up by most teams) and they can't even get some low level guys who throw the ball hard, or have a lot of raw power? I'd want a D'Vontey Richardson type or a Rob Bryson type in return. Guys who are probably unlikely to ever develop into stars...or even make the big leagues, but who at least have the potential to be stars.
  10. Offering Rodriguez arbitration would strike me as way to risky because i'd assume that Boras would argue that Rodriguez should get paid closer money because he had 23/3 save to blown save ratio with the Mets, and was only removed from the closer role because he was traded. So if he pitched well with the Brewers, i'd guess that Boras would ask for a salary around the 10 million range in arbitration if we offered arbitration and he accepted it. I can't see Boras having K-rod accept a one year deal though.
  11. He is a 19 year old kid....
  12. It looked like he just wasn't paying attention and then tried to reach back after he walked past him. Though..Rolen was a Card, so he may have deemed Wilson not worthy due to a lack of class...
  13. I don't even think you can give up a player on the 40 man as a PTBNL.I'm pretty sure the PTBNL cannot be in the same league as the player traded for. So that would mean 25 man roster no but could still be on 40 man. Stevo, if the option is declined, I believe he becomes an instant free agent, similar to if he were released, so no picks. Well have to get some clarification because I think you can offer him arbitration and I still don't think a player on the 40 man can be included as a PTBNL. Not real confident though.

  15. He's been pretty damn tough on lefties for his career. Not sure why you think he can't get them out. He can't this year, and that's far more relevant to me. I could see him improve though with a change of scenery. Going from a team dead all year to a team in a pennant race may help.Well, I'm not going to take a tiny sampling of games and put more stock into that than a pitchers entire history. He's got what, 30-35 innings in this year? Pretty insignificant when you're talking about his splits.
  16. I highly doubt it. They've got Murphy and Wright at 3rd and Davis at 1st. And I doubt the Brewers would give up Gamel after they just sent him back down with instructions to play 3rd base. We shall see, but I find this unlikely.

  18. I know, and every year we hear how they're losing money or are close to it, and every year Forbes reports that they made around 10 million, even after Mark A goes over what many on here speculate is the number that will put us in the red. The Brewers are fine. They're drawing well, they've got a new TV deal coming up, and the trade deadline is still a few weeks away. I don't see why this would stop us from picking up a solid SS.
  19. Because it likely eats up all the salary room the Brewers have to work with. And potentially any remaining minor league trading chips we have too. And the replacment of Yuni B is far and away more pressing than adding another BP arm. No, it does not eat up any remaining minor league trading chips we have. It's a salary dump. We're very unlikely giving away any of our best prospects. The Mets are sending money back, and I suspect the Brewers will still have money to add a Shortstop. We're not talking about adding 10 million in salary. A guy like Clint Barmes, Jamey Carroll...aren't exactly cost prohibitive. I just don't understand the complaining about the trade based on things we DON'T know. Lets look at what we do. We got a very good reliever and fixed a very big hole while reportedly giving up very little. That's a positive.
  20. I doubt we're even giving up that much. I think this is a salary dump for the Mets, and they likely get to chose from second tier prospects...from our system.
  21. I don't get this, you don't like the trade because there is another position that's equally/more pressing? How does this trade preclude the addition of a SS?
