  1. that was a great grab. And now Kendall with a jack! Is that his 3rd this exhibition season? What are the odds he beats that this season?
  2. wow, I'm not sure exactly what happened, but in one at bat, Yo somehow got Furcal at the plate and Ethier to hit into a GIDP. So that's 3 outs with one guy up. Nice way to get out of a bases loaded, no outs jam
  3. I figure someone else out there has to be following this online, so I'm starting a thread. According to Gameday, Gallardo so far has thrown 16 1st inning pitches, 5 for strikes. But in their boundaries of the strike zone, only 3 pitches have missed the zone. Either they're off, or the umpire is off
  4. Where have you seen this announced? Cain has been playing with Nashville in spring games, and tearing it up. Cain played 1 1/2 years at a+, and played a 1/2 season at AA. He mashed in the AFL. He's ready for AAA, and will be there in my opinion. He'll outhit hit Escobar too.X ellence, as expected, Tom Haudricourt today stated, "Center-field prospect Lorenzo Cain, who spent time in the Brewers' camp, has a hamstring strain and probably will stay in extended spring training. Cain is targeted for Class AA Huntsville" in his camp report column. I never expected Cain to start in AAA because the Brewers have almost never skipped prospects past levels. He had a bit of success in AA last year, but is still considered rather raw. That's a far cry from the refined prospect that Hardy was when he almost skipped A and A+. I still expect Cain in AAA around July 4th, in line for a big league job at midseason 2010 at best. Of course, that's once again assuming he continues to thrive in AA and then AAA.
  5. pitchleague, I'm pretty sure bench coaches weren't used back then. The Brewers were the first NL team to have one, and it was a rather new fad in the AL. So Pepper was not a bench coach. And I'm pretty sure it's Tire World, not Tire Store like everyone has said.
  6. Branyan will finally stay healthy and have 550 at bats. The result will be Branyan's career year, thanks to playing a less demanding position. Russell will be happy, as will my fantasy teams
  7. I feel bad for the cop. Emergencies are emergencies, but laws are laws. It could have been handled better--that's for sure. As a teacher, everyone wants us to be firm...until dealing with their child. Aren't rules rules?
  8. Scotty Po is a much better base-stealer than Gwynn and would be preferable. However, I have always liked Duffy.
  9. I would assume Dillard wanted to work on secondary pitches. If I'm remembering correctly, he was almost too efficient in the minors, working quick innings and never working on those pitches
  10. today it was fun to see Steffan Wilson, Caleb Gindl, Brent Brewer, etc get some playing time. Wilson just looks like a great athlete
  11. Really this debate comes down to the direction of the Brewers. As of now, the Brewers have some cost certainty with Braun for a number of years. We know they want to lock up Gallardo long-term. If they also target Parra and Hart, that would give them a core of 4 players signed long-term. Assuming they move Fielder at some point, they could probably consider locking up Hardy and/or Weeks. In that case, Escobar is expendable down the road. If they opt to continue to build around Fielder, they can't afford Hardy and it's an easy decision.
  12. What threw me off with this episode was when the helicopters landed, they bothered to ask permission from the tower. Then after they landed, the mercenaries seemed surprised to see them...didn't the whole neighborhood just hear helicopters arriving?
  13. Thanks to the strike, it's the first season in years!
  14. Two counter-points...1) it was his collegiate position, so it's nothing new. 2) Cain will be in AA this year. At best we'd be looking at Cain in CF at the end of the 2010 season. Frankly, if you have a solid offensive player and a player loaded with potential in AA, you don't base the big-leaguers position on the guy that is more likely to turn into Alex Escobar than even another Rickie Weeks.
  15. I prefer JJ moving to 3rd, but it's quite possible that in 2010 we open with Weeks in CF, Escobar at 2b, and Hardy at SS. Then after a year or two (when Hardy is a free agent), Escobar shifts back to SS much like Jose Reyes did.
  16. Mass, I'm not seeing Roque Mercedes anywhere. Am I missing him, or is he hurt?
  17. Miller always had solid stats, so this is a bit surprising. Then again, this is the time of year that we get this kind of news
  18. For clarification from this teacher, I'm up at 5:15 each morning and off to my job (at a school) by 6:15. My middle school starts at 7:49, so I use that time from about 6:50-7:49 to get set up, decompress, vent with colleagues, and have some of my non-stop meetings. I was recently placed at a high school in the district for next year, so that will mean that school starts at 7:30, meaning that I'll probably shift my wake-up to 5 am. What makes it tough is that on weeknights I tend to go to bed at around 11 or midnight.
  19. I'm a teacher so I get up at 5:15 each morning. After a couple of weeks, I get used to it.
  20. For me, my teaching job has been eliminated as my district is moving towards 200 student contacts for each middle school teacher. With 850 students, we only need 4 social studies teachers. I should be guaranteed a job though, as there were some with less seniority in the district. The first caveat regarding a paycut is that I'm a teacher, and we took one last year when adjusting for inflation (and $4.20 gas the first 6-8 weeks of the school year). However, we are expecting a paycut as Arizona is once again dropping to 51st in spending/student. We also have heard whispers of a 1 or 2 day furlough during our prep week at the start of school. I really don't care about a furlough as long as it's the first two days back, not the 4th and 6th. I coach girls golf at a local high school and that provides a bit extra money.
  21. nevermind, I found it. http://www.edstephan.org/48states.html
  22. I remember seeing a very basic flash-type visual representation of the historical changes to the US boundaries over time. Does anyone know what this site might be...I can't find it. I'd like to show it to my students
  23. Mass, I thought Bourgeois was sent to minor league camp with the first wave
