  1. Robert, part of me values drafting relievers, and part of me says that two of the more successful relievers the Crew has developed are Mike Adams and Joe Thatcher, both undrafted.
  2. He may be able to pitch through some of it. Remember, the Brewers signed Ben McDonald knowing full well that he had a partial tear in his shoulder, and yet they got 1 1/2 good years out of him....one of the better signings they've had.
  3. Patrick, that's how it works in the Olympics, too. Plus, we want this event to be competitive.
  4. I'm with John Briggs on Pudge, although I'm pretty sure he doesn't want to play in Milwaukee. Still, a Pudge/Kendall platoon of sorts could allow both to thrive given the reduced workload.
  5. I would never want to sign Oliver Perez. He can't throw strikes and has zero consistency. For the salary he'll get, I'd much rather attempt to sign Sheets. Also, does Shouse give a 2nd round pick or a compensatory pick? Theoretically, we're still talking about 7 picks before the start of round 3 should Shouse and Sheets sign elsewhere. Speaking of Shouse, why is someone with his numbers struggling to get a 2 year $6 million offer?
  6. I think that at this point Ben is worth a 2 year $20 million deal with incentives. I'd also tailor his throwing program along what we've done w/Cordero and Torres, and using Sabathia as a bit of a guide. That is, I'd work Ben slowly in spring training and hope for him to be a 5-6 inning starter in April, 6-7 in May/June, and hopefully have him prepared for a heavy workload in the last 5 weeks of the year. It seems that Ben often throws a lot early in the year, then breaks down. So why not come up with a program to have him available at the end of the year?
  7. I can't find the article from 2008, but in 2007 it appears I was wrong. Hardy finished 4th behind Hart, Iribarren, and Drew Anderson. But he was ahead of fairly fast players like Braun, Weeks, and Hall.
  8. I thought Dunn was recruited as a tight end?
  9. strawbossisevil, while Hardy isn't the speediest, remember he managed to be the fastest big leaguer in camp last year when they did their runs. We may not see it when he runs the bases, but that's what helps him make so many plays look effortless
  10. I'd trade Fielder for Verlander and a prospect, while giving 1b to Nelson with us signing someone that can backup there. I'd love Sexson on a cheap deal
  11. seems like a scam to me because I was watching a Phillips TV that counted from 5 mins down to under 15 secs. It kept repeating based on bidding, but then it wasn't listed under "ended auctions" and it reappeared on top with around 2:30 left. It did this several times
  12. I'm amazed, as I don't recall another majoy crash in which people survived. I don't count the Denver one. I always figured that the impact with water would break peoples' necks
  13. I'd happily offer Fielder in a trade.
  14. You forgot to mention Weeks. He's ranked very highly. So they did better than .500. They got 5 to be at least solid big leaguers, one more a AAAA type that'll log plenty of time in the big leagues, and two others that have struggled to perform past AA.
  15. Whatever you do, avoid the Crazyhorse Paris in MGM. Was in Vegas with two buddies, 2 of us had ladies along for the ride. The two other guys loved it (one likes anything with a boob, the other was crazy). I was bored out of my mind, and it didn't impress the ladies. It was a topless show that was really "out there." It's the last time I let that friend pick a show.
  16. Seeing Garafolo in a role where she's not pissy and domineering is like seeing Vince Vaughn as a less-than-cocky star in Dodgeball. It takes a while to get used to, but just might be crazy enough to work. What's next, is Kathy Griffin going to become funny? I think the mole is actually Moss. He's too straight-laced.
  17. I'd happily consider Pedro. He has performed about as expected recently given that he had major shoulder repairwork done. My only real concern with Pedro would be that the same injury ended his brother's career, and he was also pretty darn good before the shoulder tear. Still, at the start of the offseason I had Pedro rated ahead of guys like Lowe, Burnett, etc because he'd likely sign for less money and for fewer years. Pedro at an incentive laiden $4 million is a good deal for both sides
  18. I'd be willing to listen to the Red Sox. I still think Fielder is going the route of Gary Sheffield....little effort and unhappy in Milwaukee.
  19. Nice finish to the game. Best part is that I get to see my alma mater (Santa Clara) now against St. Mary's. SCU has an awesome big guy named John Bryant. It's too bad he shaved his white-man 'fro. He looked like a member of the "Hair Bear Bunch" his first 3 years.
  20. This looks like a good game. Good to see both programs on their feet again.
  21. Actually, the plan does provide cost certainty. As of now, it sounds like Dunn may fall into the $7-9 million per year range, possibly lower. A 5 year $42 million offer might get it done, as it's better than every other rumor I've read for Dunn. Fielder will likely cost around $7.5 million this year, $10 million in 2010, and $13 million in 2011. So endaround, to me the comment about cost savings makes sense. Additionally, the cost certainty would be nice, knowing what to budget in the payroll at 1st base for years to come. And landing a free agent would give us a happy player. Throw in that Dunn has got to be around 6-8" taller than Fielder, meaning a much better reach at first base.
  22. To move Hall the Brewers would likely have to take Washburn (or even worse, Batista) back in return from the Mariners. endaround, what's so bad about adding an expensive #4 starter? The only issue I would have is that I like Hall as a super utility guy, but we do need a pitcher.
  23. Peavey, I was told that Sheets was hurting in June, but wound up with the tear in August. I think it's interesting that MLB front offices seem to be thinking the same way that I have been...they're very reluctant to give big money to a guy coming off of an obscure muscle tear.
  24. I'd love to add Swisher, seeing as more sources are saying he's available. We could trade them Fielder for Swisher and Hughes. Let Hart or Swisher play 1st base. It would upgrade our defense, provide salary flexibility, and add a top flight pitching prospect.
  25. There's a guy in that picture? Sorry, all I see is an attractive woman in red
