  1. isn't the 6th pick the lowest that the Bucks could have selected?
  2. Braun showing that apparently that wrist is alright. A homer and a walk in the leadoff spot tonight so far
  3. Or it could be trying to give him as many PA's as possible the next few days as they want to test the wrist out and he's very close to a call up (maybe just a matter of days) your idea is much more likely. It'll be fun to have his power speed combination in the lineup with Weeks, Hall, and Hart (when he plays)
  4. interesting to see Braun leading off. I guess theoretically if he can have a decent OBP, the Brewers could have him leadoff while adjusting to big league pitching, allowing Weeks to slide down a bit (or perhaps hit second). It would allow Weeks to--at least theoretically--swing for the fences more, and Braun to just focus on working the count and making contact. Also, check out the numbers on Memphis' starting RF. Sure would make for a great story. And wouldn't it be crazy if he were forced to pitch because of a 20 inning game, and thrived. The odd thing is that Ankiel never had great command, yet people acted like it vanished.
  5. He wasn't the player that signed, but balked at his destination and was suspended, was he?
  6. Nice effort by Gwynn. If that scoreboard and the padding at the top of the wall were flush, I think he would have caught it. He had his right hand on the wall, and when he jumped and reached to put his glove over the wall, the padding was in the way.
  7. wow. I hate Jeff Kent, so I'm glad that one stayed in the yard
  8. man, a perfect throw. I hate it when catchers save their best throws for against us
  9. I get your point DHonks, but I think it's more that Scully gives a very interesting background of a player on the opposing team, instead of just saying that they're "gritty" and a "battler." I haven't heard him do it this year, but in past years he used to exclusively refer to JJ as "James Jerry." I always thought that was interesting. And he has described Counsell and Gwynn as "tough outs." I wonder if there's some website dedicated to Dodgers fans complaining about Scully's praise for David Eckstein. Also, watching this, I can't help but chuckle that I've never heard someone critique Andy LaRoche's "bad body," but they love pointing that out with Jeremy Brown.
  10. I was thinking about this during the game. I--like most others here--love Vin Scully. But he's talking about the Brewers more than Darron Sutton ever talked about our opponents, and Sutton used to draw a lot of heat for it. Is it just a double standard? IE, are we thrilled when another team's announcer gives us some love, but bitter when our announcer's praise other teams?
  11. So tomorrow should we bat Hart second to keep JJ 3rd? That could be what gets him going. Also, Houston down 3-0, meaning that they'll likely be 6.5 back after tonight, with the Cubs in second place at 6 games back.
  12. Estrada still has a terrible OBP, those 6 HR don't negate that. he's still about middle of the pack for regular catchers in the NL in OBP, only he's flashed a bit of power and a nice average. I don't think he'll be an allstar, but I'm pointing this out since OBP isn't a stat that many catchers thrive at
  13. nice 8 pitch inning there for Suppan
  14. didn't Sollman's brother walk a lot? Hasn't he played multiple positions, too? I seem to recall him starting at SS in the allstar game
  15. I kind of like Estrada batting 5th. It's a non-strikeout guy in the middle of the lineup, and makes us a bit less susceptible to high-K pitchers in rbi situations.
  16. Another myth that needs to die. Gross by month: Oops, proved me wrong here. I thought most seemed to proclaim it as fact, hence I listened. I think he can be a solid player, but I just don't think he has a role on this team right now.
  17. Brad, if Alcides keeps hitting and fielding, he'll get to AAA fairly quickly. With JJ in Milwaukee, he'll have plenty of time to learn to draw a walk in AAA.
  18. Darren Ford with his 4th jack, but the real surprise in the early going tonight is that Alcides Escobar has two extra base hits thus far
  19. I think I agree with Al. Gross could likely fetch us a bit more. I still think Nix can be a solid big leaguer, especially in CF or as a 4th OF. Gross reminds me a lot of a player I enjoyed in the mid-90s, Turner Ward. Still, if either could be dealt to provide some AAA middle infield depth, I would consider it.
  20. Weirdos, I kind of like that lineup, except Hall in CF. Although, I'd like to get Hart in there more soon. Gross is someone I used to be a big fan of, but really he wasn't that great outside of his first month last year. I'd like to see Hart in RF, with Gwynn starting may twice a week in RF, once in CF, and Mench traded
  21. I seem to recall liking Scott Sollman quite a bit, too. But Steven is really doing a heck of a job with the singles and walks
  22. any replay Colby? I don't plan on getting in my car at 6 am to hear your voice?
  23. I was going to comment that this is vintage Cappy...walks a bunch, then gets out of it. But..he didn't get out of it
  24. wow, I've never seen a ball ricochet off the wall like that in Miller Park before. Tough luck
