  1. In general, Beane won't add payroll. Harden and Komine for Villanueva (cheap young SP), Gabe Gross (seems a Beane-kind of guy), Capellan, and someone like Steve Moss sounds about right.
  2. "Nice catch Hall, don't ever ...... do it again." Sorry, I couldn't resist after his basket grab there
  3. interesting to hear that Hart is out for the series, and that Braun is officially nursing soreness in both areas mentioned in the minor league thread
  4. jones with an unfortunate forearm strain while throwing well lately. I assume he'll go on the 7 day dl. I wonder if Housman gets the start, or if it's the excuse we've been hoping for to get Inman to AA.
  5. Keeping Yo in AAA makes sense. Vargas is throwing fine, Bush isn't throwing well but will improve. Really, there's no reason to call up Yo. I'd rather have him in AAA with a close leash on his innings and pitches/inning. Why mess with what is working in the big leagues?
  6. That Tony Gwynn, jr will never be a big leaguer
  7. I hope Sheets strikes out to avoid the DP
  8. isn't St. Pierre like 24 or 25 still, too? Lots of time, and low mileage on the arm.
  9. Mike Mcclendan is off to a fine start...i think he would have received more notice if it wasnt for the incredible run of zach braddock.. I had to go back to the '06 draft talk to find out where we got him. He's moving onto my radar now, too, Brad. Also, any word on Braun? I hope this isn't related to his shoulder from last week. It'd be fun if he was being recalled, but highly unlikely at this point.
  10. I've always liked bunting in non-bunting situations. Like in an RBI situation, I like Hall or Weeks occasionally trying it to catch the opponent napping.
  11. Well, it required a perfect throw, and they got it. I can't recall Hardy ever being thrown out attempting to take an extra base. So that might just be a first.
  12. He may be listed at 6'0" but he's 5'10" tops. I'm 6'1" and stood next to Curtis at a bar in Milwaukee and had him by two inches easy. and I've golfed with him, had drinks with him, and been to a concert with him. I'm 5'10", and I had him by at least 1 ". That's why I used him as an example. It baffled me that we hit the golf ball the same distance, yet I throw a fastball with maybe 50% of the velocity of him. I just don't understand the physics.
  13. I'm amazed that someone with such a slight build (5'11", 170lb) is able to approach 100mph with his fastball Curtis Leskanic was maybe 5'9" and 170, and he threw 100 mph.
  14. I can't wait for Inman to get to AA, because I suspect he'll have some awesome quotes about batting, too.
  15. Rottino seems to be catching more lately, so that's worth noting
  16. I'm rooting for Jr to add just enough power. He could be the next leadoff hitter if he can keep teams honest with the threat of a ball through the gap. I've been very impressed this year. Nearly ever at bat leads to a hard hit liner or a near-perfect bunt. He's also had several lineouts to the warning track.
  17. I can't say I would have made a pitching change. Bush had dominated all game. Even after the 2nd double, the Pirates had 4 hits, with one being a fister. Then with two swings of the bat, it all changes
  18. wow, poor location on those heaters. Note for the rest of the series...the Pirates like fastballs.
  19. alright Bush, let's get out of this inning. A walk here won't kill you, but why not two K's to finish it
  20. Yost and Sveum had the look of "did you call that?"
  21. i like the aggressiveness, but not in that situation. Still, 1 run is all we'll need
  22. also, that Bush curve on the 3rd pitch was the best one I've seen from him this year, so that's a good sign
  23. Based on Bush's patterns for last year, we'll see a much better pitcher tonight. Last year he tended to follow an awful outing with a fantastic one. It's funny because the Bush fans remember the fantastic outings, the Bush-haters (my dad, for one) remember his shellings.
  24. I'm amazed at just how many talented lefties the organization currently has. I remember when it seemed the only ones were Parra, Eveland, and Housman.
