  1. Anybody else getting a kick out of Mike Everitt's strike call? It's like an old, fat, white guy doing a karate chop and grunting. How cool is that? not sure it sounds like that, but I like it. What I like is he immediately makes a noise and a hand gesture. I hate it when they leave you hanging for a second.
  2. Gotta say, our lineup is very interesting tonight. Grieve, Spivey and Hall hitting 5-6-7 is decent since all have some power. Also, all can find the gaps.
  3. great summary Mass. I really like our chances in the rest of the series. Obermueller vs Valdes and Davis vs Eaton. Obermueller has looked much better lately since he's been throwing strikes and keeping the ball down. And anytime Davis goes I feel good about our chances. Then in Anaheim we'll have Sheets, Santos and either Obermueller or Capuano. I've got to see it's fun having 2 good starters and 3 guys who don't make me want to say "umm, should I listen to the Brewers or the HD Mavs?" Yes, I said Mavs...not Indy, Huntsville, or Beloit.
  4. Another very well-pitched game for the Crew. Some clutch hits. Now we just need our new 5 hitter to heat up. Too much recently have we seen the PH, Pods, or Counsell got on and be stranded by our 3 and 4 hitters. Now we have Overbay to knock them in, so the other teams are afraid. So they'll walk him until someone starts driving him in. Having Overbay hitting 4th should take pressure off of Pods, Counsell, and Jenkins, but unfortunately it'll mean the 5 and 6 hitters need to start producing more
  5. come on Keith, 0-5 w/9 LOB isn't very good...get a hit here to prevent it!
  6. Mike Adams, you da' man. I love watching this guy throw - he's freaking phenomenal. This guy needs more love... closer of the future, it would seem. Perhaps. If I was Vizcaino I'd be worried about losing my job. As for Kolb...perhaps in a year or two. I love what Kolb has done. I agree that his breaking pitch just isn't there this year, but at his salary I can live with it. At a higher salary, I'd be complaining. I could definitely see us dealing Vizcaino, Burba, and Kolb if we should fall out of the division, since some combination of Reichert, Jason Childers, Matt Childers, Wise, Bennett, and Adams could be almost as good.
  7. First off, you can tell we all were pumped about Hendrickson, cause there's like 1/10 the posts this time, and we're winning! Secondly, I think Petco is built perfectly for the Brewers. Same would go for Comerica. Lots of room for doubles, triples, and soft liners to fall. Considering we have decent OF speed and a bunch of doubles hitters, this would be a great park for us. Thirdly, I hope Pods was watching Liefer keeping his weight back there. Although I think he's been keeping his front shoulder in better lately. He also appears to be trying to pull the ball more
  8. Walks were a problem, but didn't cost him any runs ...Except for the one run he gave up off a walk, hbp, and single
  9. Too bad Overbay keeps getting intentionally walked. Ginter is 0 for 2 batting behind him with runners on base. I don't mind...baserunners are baserunners. And eventually Ginter will get ahold of one for a double or homer. Typically my indicator (very unscientific) for a team that's about to go on a winning streak is doubles and triples. Keeping that in mind, we have 3 doubles and a triple (probably should have been a double and an error) through the first 5 innings.
  10. so what's JEff Liefer's role? is he our DH now? Unless he's average in RF, I don't anticipate him getting more than a few AB's per week
  11. Mass, could you please dedicate one post to giving updates on Manny's evening? Oh, and maybe Hinton and Vandenberg, too!
  12. so I expect Hendrickson to be optioned as we speak why, we don't even know if Ben Sheets can go in his next start.
  13. Stars scored on a monster Nelson homerun A few more walks and Nelson will be eying a promotion to AAA.
  14. Not a bad night with Manny, Ford, and Sarfarte going. Hasn't Sarfarte had a recent string of good outings?
  15. On at least 2 occasions Ben threw a very nice curve on a 2 strike pitch that dropped into the strike zone. Both times I think the Ump just didn't call it a strike because he couldn't believe it dropped that much. Someone forgot to give the umps a scouting report. One thing that amazed me was Ben's command with it. He threw it right on the corners. Unfortunately the ump had given up on the pitches already. Three more things: -3:1 groundout to flyout ratio. -most of the hits were seeing-eye singles -his curve was registering about 74 mph, giving him a very good 15 mph difference between his sinker and his curve. In the Fall League I swear he also threw another offspeed pitch. I think he threw a curve in the low 80s, too, because I remember my friend commenting that for a curveball specialist, his curve wasn't all that impressive. Just then he pulled out the slow big spike-curve and he quickly rescinded his comment. So I think for his first start, Ben just tried to keep it simple with his fastball and main curve.
  16. Hall grounded deep into the hole, but Kieschnick was out by a bunch of steps at 2nd. Gotta say, it was good to see us use two strong hitters off the bench rather than letting the weaker hitters ground out.
  17. Even with that, nice outing. It definitely adds to the excitement this year. Also, Hendrickson 9 groundouts, 3 flyouts.
  18. neither did Bill/Daron "and the count remains 2 and 2" --dodgers' broadcast, too
  19. I still find his arm action a bit ackward, I know that's about Jackson, but... While it's kind of fun to watch Hendrickson and his throwback-high legkick-hands behind head motion, I have to say I see some of the same motion that Neugy had. The only thing is that Neugy bent really awkwardly (almost bending over backwards) and threw all arm, while Ben keeps his front shoulder in very well. Looks nice and effortless out there...unfortunately we can't say the same for Greive's defense tonight. Also, is Ben going to be up for two starts? As of now, we have 5 starters, and Cappy isn't elligible to come off the DL till next Thurs, I think. Wise is always an option, but with us going to an AL park, I figure he'll be in the pen against that offense.
  20. at least Chad isn't an automatic out! So it just seems that way?
  21. Ben's now our 3rd best hitting pitcher behind DH/pitchers Obermueller and Kieschnick. He looks like he has an idea up there also, the difference thus far in the game is that Cora's dive got an out, and Counsell's didn't
  22. Ben's cureve is getting squeezed. It's being caught at upper thigh height, which means it's crossing at about belt high.
  23. As much as I want to see Hall, I'm glad we went with the better defensive infield behind the kid.
  24. nice to see Gwynn with a couple walks and a hit on the day, and Belcher with some doubles.
