  1. If Eveland does in fact go in game 2, that's perhaps the most appetizing Daily Menu in recent memory. Now if only we can get De La Rosa, Jones, Sarfarte, and Neugebauer all throwing on the same day some how (heck, I'd be satisfied with all of them throwing, period)
  2. 17-16 is nice but not unexpected. Scoop, I'm a pretty big optimist, but I figured we'd be hard pressed to be at .500 all season. With that April schedule, I figured we'd be enough under that we'd be needing a great May to get back to .500. I dont think anyone (outside of Overbay) is playing significantly better than projected I guess Overbay is doing a bit better than expected, but for me I was expecting .320 with 45+ doubles. For me the real pleasant surprises have been Jenkins and Pods. I know Jenks' numbers aren't great, but what has impressed me most is that he's been staying on pitches with his front shoulder and driving them the other way for singles and doubles. His strikeout rate is way down, and his walk rate is much improved. As for Pods, his success has put to rest any concerns we had. I for one am sure excited by this team. We fall below .500 then battle back each time. I think most fans are even feeling the energy of this team, and with a win tomorrow, huge crowds should be in the near future. Also, It'll be great having Capuano back. With him and our days off (thank you schedule-makers), we will be seeing solid-to-good starts 4 of 6 games each week (that's Cappy, Sheets, and Davis). Once Hendrickson joins the team (sometime after June 1st), we'll have a very solid 1-4 in our rotation.
  3. Very encouraging game for Sarfarte. 2 ER, only 2 BB, fewer hits than innings pitched, and more K's than innings pitched.
  4. Thanks hardytheman. When I hear about Sarfarte being a fastball pitcher, I am reminded of Schilling, who--according to myth--once threw a CG victory throwing nothing but fastballs.
  5. Every time I see Sarfarte listed I get excited. Hopefully he's making adjustments and it's just a matter of time before he finds his groove.
  6. Why waste your big run producers when nobody is on base and you are down 3-0. once again, I was wrong. I was wondering why you don't use Hall or Kieschnick then. But tonight it's hard to argue that any of Yost's moves were mistakes, since they won. I guess my issue with using Durrington there is that if you keep waiting to use the best pinch hitters, then there's a chance they'll never get to the plate. Anyways, I can finally eat. Milk and cookies was tiding me through the game, since I didn't want to spend more than 1 min 30 secs in the kitchen at a time. What an exciting game from start to finish, and--yes it was 8-5--but I call that a pitcher's duel. Sheets and Hernandez combined for gems, even if they both gave up three in the end.
  7. see, they were just waiting for Overbay to get his hit. What an awesome sight, the team mugging Helms and Overbay!!! BACK TO .500!!! Edit: Ginter hitting .235, Helms hitting .235
  8. Can Kinney even go? He maybe starting Win tonight, then worry about Saturday. As for Hall, great play. Come on Lyle, you're getting a 6th shot...you went 8-12 against the Mets, remember?!
  9. we need to end this right now, because I don't like our bullpen options. Burba, Wise, Kinney, Ford
  10. The boys just pulled one out of "from you know where". Perhaps it's that Wayne Franklin-esque It's desire to help out Overbay to extend his hitting streak...it's destiny
  11. Counsell's best game of the year? My vote is for Hall at 2b tomorrow. Ginter probably is a bit tired after having played in just about every game this month. I like the guy, and while I'm not in the "Free Ginter" crowd, I think a mental day off could be beneficial. Of course, if he's the hero now, then I'll shut up
  12. steal pods to get him in scoring position?????
  13. does Hall get a chance? is he the extra innings pinch hitter? or is he the pinch runner?
  14. Ginter with 2 k's tonight, although in his third AB he took a two strike heater that tailed over the heart of the plate (I guess the ump gave up on it). 0-4 with 2 K's (should have been 3). Helms 1-3 with his hit being a dribbler. Boy our 3rd basemen are slumping now
  15. Trent FRICKEN Durrington. Ben Sheets could have struck out, then pitched until someone reached base. But instead we went for the lethal duo of Durrington and Bennett
  16. actually, this game has me glued to my spot on the couch. Nothing like two pitchers going at it. If Ginter either makes a good throw OR doesn't bobble it, then it's a 1-0 game with both pitchers dealing. Sheets with 96 pitches (70 strikes) entering the 8th. 105 pitches after 8 complete. If he wasn't leading off, he might have had a chance for a CG
  17. madbad, what can you report on Dillard? Is he a groundball machine like was reported last year? How hard is he throwing? I guess his sinker (from what I've read) intrigues me. He could be someone to succeed in HD.
  18. I like Keith Ginter, but he does strike out a lot. RyDogg66, last year I figured maybe he'd grow out of that a bit, since he has such a nice compact swing. But kind of amazing is that he is striking out more than Helms. AB/BB/K Helms 98 5 22 Ginter 76 12 22 Of course, Ginter is also driving the ball much better, and hitting some homers. But boy, it's rough when Ginter and Helms are both slumping.
  19. There's an obvious problem with putting Overbay in the 3 spot. That's that Geoff's going to get fewer pitches to hit with Ginter there. I think Grieve after Overbay would be better, but it's hard to configure everything properly. We know Spivey is the starting 2b, and we know Hall and Counsell are splitting SS.
  20. I still would like to hear if Raburn pitching is to attempt to improve his value. Like I said, with the money invested in these kids, might as well give them every possible chance to succeed. Especially prep players we draft who were known as two way players
  21. Question is, how many runs will we need to score since we're sending Davis, Hernandez, and Santos out there. We might need 10 each night
  22. It sure would help if Belcher, Gwynn, Cruz, Nelson, etc would start playing well. And I'd also like to see Sarfarte start having more success, but I guess it is a big jump. Still, where did the strikeouts go? Oh well, plenty of time left this year
  23. Let's forget all this stuff. Let's think about tomorrow. How can we be better prepared to win? Well, as much as some have complained about Counsell, Grieve, Clark, and Helms, our offense is scoring runs. We need pitching now. By late next week we have Capuano back, giving us three starters. But as of now we'd be still counting on 2 of Santos, Hernandez, and Obermueller. And our pen would likely have Hernandez, Kinney, Ford, and Bennett still in it. We would have Kieschnick, Kolb, Vizcaino, and Burba, but that's 4 out of 8 effective. In AAA they have both Childers, Adams, Wise, and Michalek (although his numbers aren't that great). And of course none of those address the rotation problems. If we fall much lower in the standings, then there's no real point in calling up Hendrickson until August, if at all this year. And the same can be said for Saenz (not that we're really arguing whether or not he's ready).
  24. Yost had options. He didn't have MANY options, and none of them were what I'd call attractive, but he HAD options. Strange, cause I don't believe an option for Yost was to have his defense give the Reds 7 outs (since there should have been a DP and a flyout). They should have put up a zero on the board, and then we wouldn't be questioning things.
  25. Amazing, The Brewers just showed how to surrender 5 runs on 3 singles (one which traveled 14 feet) and a walk
