  1. I instictively want to say 'Tames' - like the river. This is likely because I'm a history/geography nerd, and also it makes no sense to pronounce 'Thames' as 'Tames' - so every time I would see it a mental flag pops up reminding me to pronounce it as 'Tames'. As a history/Econ teacher, I always want to say "Temz" like the river. Then I adjust to "Themz." Only lately have a started to correctly say "Thames." It's hard trying to retrain myself after saying that spelling one way for 20 years.
  2. would be a nice deal, especially since NFL deals aren't guaranteed
  3. Does anybody else still have a hard time saying Thames? I still want to pronounce it like the river.
  4. Amazing he's hit 7 off the Reds. Maybe it's not steroids, maybe it's Reds' pitching
  5. there's something wonderful seeing Colorado Springs with a winning record and Nashville with a losing one. Suck it!
  6. so JimH5, they only have the self serve squirt area for secret stadium sauce? Maybe I'm thinking of County Stadium where they had the foil pans they'd roll your hot dog/sausage in before putting it in the bun.
  7. Haven't been to Miller park in years. Do they still have the pans of Secret Stadium Sauce to roll hot dogs in before putting them in the bun? I miss that
  8. Kenny Rogers had some great ones too. He supposedly played SS in high school.
  9. part of the benefit of our situation is we can give guys like Santana, Broxton, Shaw, Villar, Thames, etc chances. It makes no sense to give up on an asset when our focus is 2018-2020. Brinson has things to work on. Everyone does
  10. Mine was nowhere near that bad. It took 10 minutes with my bank to get pre-approved. Then I went to the dealer, found what I wanted, and negotiated. Yes, it took maybe 2 hours total. Beware if you buy it in another state and transport it to AZ, they can make you pay AZ and local taxes if you don't leave it in the state of purchase for 3+ months. We've looked into buying in Montana (no sales tax) and leaving it at a family address for 3+ months, then driving it to AZ and registering here. Also, at least Wisconsin has cheap registration. When I was in high school it was something like $45. In AZ and Montana, it's based on the value of the vehicle, so a new car can be near $1000/year
  11. You said it Gene! Is that organizational perfect day #2 so far?
  12. This guy seems like a steal. Older, but terrific minor league numbers. With any results, he can be flipped in 2018 for something
  13. And That, it expires this June 15th? Can any bonus pool money be carried over?
  14. I'm not on board with drafting a MLB, but lots of publications expect it. We have two competent ones, and I expect Clay to transition more to MLB. His over-pursuit on the edge burns the Packers EVERY game against the run. He's also not holding up when battling tackles. Given that we play Nickel something like 70% of the time, I'd actually like a defensive lineman that's more of a pass-rush guy, and some more flexible guys that can play multiple spots for versatility. We need speed, but we need to be able to pressure QB's.
  15. I don't get this. First of all, the contract was purchased, but was he simply placed on the 40-man or called up? I see no MLB player with a roster change. Doesn't make sense. Secondly, Goforth has never looked good in the majors. maybe this was just to get Magnifico to stay in the minors while off the 40-man due to other teams' lack of available roster spots. Sure seems like he had more upside that Goforth
  16. Gotta love early season stats when a good/bad game can lead to a huge swing. My favorite stat so far is that 6 Brewers have drawn a walk, with 3 of them already having two walks Second favorite is seeing the lefty homers today.
  17. At this point, is Medeiros under the radar? How about Roache? Lots of good players in the system
  18. Not sure why this would bring out an angry crowd. It's not like Moeller will play, but if he can bring some good advice I don't see why it would hurt. Can you only have so many coaches in MLB? I learn this, then forget, then someone tells me and I forget it again. People hated Chad Moeller so much, I'm not sure they could see that he was effective in certain aspects. I think we can have extra coaches, roving instructors, etc, as long as they aren't in uniform on game day. I would try to have him work on pitching philosophy with our hard throwers, and teach catchers how to properly incorporate calling for the high heater
  19. Villar is from DR. His offensive skill set is ahead of many fellow players from Latin America in that he actually knows how to work the count and walk. I'm willing to give him time with the defense. As people said in the Opening Day thread, he's young. He statistically shouldn't peak for 3-6 years. We've got a keeper. People are furious after his first day. We experienced about 40 of those each year with Weeks at 2b.
  20. I know this will get the angry crowd to appear....I'd love to bring in Chad Moeller to help some of our young pitchers. Thinking back to 2004 when Sheets had his breakout year (and arguably should have won the Cy Young), that's when Sheets scrapped his 2-seamer and started throwing his 4-seamer, resulting in a jump in velocity of 5-6 mph. Moeller and Mike Maddux were huge advocates of the high fastball. Sheets' curve became much better, because hitters then started swinging through high heaters. When they started respecting high heaters, his curve became a true strikeout pitch. What I'm getting at is Maddux-Sheets-Moeller became experts at using all areas of the zone. Wily Peralta tonight has had some outstanding high heaters, but they appear more of accidents. Given that he's basically a 2-pitch pitcher like Sheets, I think he could benefit utilizing the entire zone more than just trying to work the bottom 1/3. Everything in baseball has become "work down" or "down and away".
  21. I really hate this. I know people will cite that website that ranked the angles in stadiums, but I never have liked CF cameras. I actually agree. Of course I always have gameday up so I don't need a CF camera angle to see if the pitch is a strike. Ours isn't even centered either. It's slightly to right field. I noticed that it's offset slightly. Plus the camera angle isn't high enough, so the entire plate is blocked during the pitch. Why not just stick with the traditional view and just show Foxtrax on every pitch? I hate how they selectively show it, so I always wind up needing some device with me to show me the strike zone

  23. really hoping for Yamamoto to continue breaking out.
