  1. I think a more creative solution would be to piggy-back in the big leagues. Nelson and Peralta struggle to go deep in games. I'd like to see them piggyback. At this point in time, I really don't want my young arms trying to go 7-9. I'd rather they give me 4-6 and focus on being great for those innings.
  2. Northwestern holding on despite lots of calls going against them in the closing minutes. My first time seeing Northwestern. They look tall and legit. Good athletes, good scheme, trapping D. I like what I'm seeing. Badgers will always be tough come March.
  3. This is pretty much most years recently. What separates Wiscy is that they are unbelievably clutch. They win more games that they should lose than any other team. I think I've tuned in 3 or 4 times in the last month with sure-losses in the last minute or so, and they wound up winning each I would call that getting lucky. yes, and it frustrates me. Every time I tuned in it was to see them lose.

  5. this would be amazing, as the Marlins' ownership has been the biggest problem facing baseball for several years. Bigger than the A's or Rays' stadium issues
  6. FVBrewerFan, I was actually wondering about Janis to CB. He can't consistently get on the field, but he has size, speed, and plays recklessly on special teams.
  7. Glad I placed two money line wagers on the Patriots to win late in the first half! True Hail Mary's.
  8. I've always wondered how effective side-sessions are. Guys pitching through slumps struggle to turn them around until they hit the minors. But if you were effectively pitching every 3rd day, you'd have opportunities to right the ship
  9. I hope they forfeit all 2017 draft picks, along with a year of international signings
  10. The wife doesn't like the Control4 thermostat we currently have, and wants me to look into a Nest. From reviews online, and given that we are both iOS users, it seems like we should go for the Ecobee3. It generally has better reviews, and is compatible with HomeKit. Does anyone have any experience with it?
  11. I'm an accountant by trade, but I do not understand what you are saying. Adam, I'm saying that if the Brewers were projected to show a $30M profit this year, but they sign Weiters for $6 million, he would cost them $6 million. But by lowering the club's profits to around $24.5 million, they'd save on roughly $1.5-2M in taxes, thus making the actual cost of adding Weiters more like $4-4.5 instead of 6. Still, no need to sign him if we like who we've got. I just don't see a downside to signing Weiters. His OBP has diminished from it's best years, his OPS+ has been fine to good, and he has tremendous power potential. Given his work at throwing out runners, I would guess he's decent behind the dish as well.
  12. I guess I just don't get the reluctance. Weiters would improve our catching position, cost us less than his salary (with regard to tax savings by lowering profitability), and likely be able to garner 1-2 prospects with a solid bounce back campaign (can be expected in Miller Park the farther he gets from TJ surgery)
  13. I can't see Kyle Ren going good. If he joined the good side, he would be put on trial for crimes against the Galaxy.
  14. He's still recovering from TJ surgery. I love signings like this. Could put up tremendous numbers in Miller Park

  16. Montgomery hasn't been a good receiver for the Packers, so I'm hoping he sticks at running back. Very talented and hard to bring down
  17. I've been alluding to this with my many 3-4/nickel comments. Clay is ineffective in the DE role he's been playing out of the nickel. He either needs to move inside, or we need to try playing a 3-4. But really, 4-3, 3-4...it doesn't matter. We played Nickel or Dime seemingly every down all season. And free agency can't solve our problems. Good players in the NFL don't reach free agency. Plus it's hard to evaluate players, as many are products of their systems. We can add a few solid backups or fringe starters, but it's rare to find impactful players given the CBA
  18. That late 90s team found talent from everywhere. Reggie, Sean Jones, Santana Dotson and Eugene Robinson were free agents. I think Gilbert Brown was found at Burger King. LeRoy Butler was a converted corner. Mike Prior was a solid veteran. I'm not as huge a free agency advocate as others. NFL free agency is broken. Teams rarely allow studs to reach free agency. However, solid contributing backups or adequate starters can be found in such a manor. The challenge is to determine which players can help and which are "system players". I keep mention nickel vs 3-4, because we have personnel foand the latter but primarily run the former. Maybe we need to adapt our personnel strategy OR get a defense with swagger where we play our scheme and keep our best 11 defender said on the field instead of playing the matchup game.
  19. I wish I knew the answers. I've always thought of Dom Capers as sort of an evil genius, concocting blitzes from his laboratory. But we have some serious issues to address. 1) Injuries-- every year we seem to be seriously damaged by the injury bug. What are we doing wrong? Should Murphy be lobbying hard for the NFL to add another 5 players to the NFL rosters since we always seemingly have difficult decisions activating injured defensive players? 2) What is our base defense? If we aren't going to play the 3-4, we need to have enough starting caliber players to have nickel be he base defense. 3) lock up Hyde and Cook to 3 year deals. Bring back Perry and Lacy. They aren't the problem 4) teach corners to jam at the line better. The Cowboys mugged our receivers 7 yards (past the allowable distance), causing our receivers to constantly complain about holding. I know it upsets Capers when Randall gives his receiver 8 yards. 5) figure out why our O-line is so good at pass blocking but so iffy at run-blocking 6) get something productive out of the D-line 7) consider trading Clay if the defense matchups are going to require him to play DE.
  20. Talking with a high school defensive coordinator, he explained why the zones look so soft. As teams try to protect a lead, they tend to be willing to give up short passes rather than the bombs. While a team can score with short passes, it can chew up clock. In fairness, if the Rodgers to Adams play connects instead of an INT, the game would have been pretty much out of reach. The Packers can do a better job of keeping the foot on the pedal....we've seen that plenty over the years (yuck Seattle!), but realistically it also means we're often ahead by a bunch.
  21. Thinking more about my previous comments about us no longer running a 3-4.....Clay really is now playing as an undersized defensive end. Nickel, with him on the line, has led to this situation where it's hard to beat 330 lb tackles.
  22. The problem isn't Capers. The problem is the draft and develop philosophy--which I generally like. Capers' defensive scheming is based around a 3-4, which is been relegated to our 3rd or 4th scheme thanks to 3 and 4 receiver sets. Even then, we see the value of guys like Micah Hyde. BTW, he and Cook are must keep players. Rollins and Randall were drafted as projects for Whitt to work with. The entire defense was based around 5 studs--HaHa, Burnett, Shields, Clay, and Daniels. Clay is playing with 1.5 arms (anyone that's separated a shoulder knows he's nowhere close to 100%). Shields was the shutdown corner that made everyone better. Losing Burnett was huge yesterday, and probably directly led to a lot of the Cowboys' success both running and passing. This year the team needs to add a legit NT, as Guion isn't very good. More corner depth is always good given that the base defense isn't a 3-4 anymore. I almost wish we could go with some lighter, faster (yet still physical) LB's to allow us to stick with the 3-4 against 3-5 WR sets.
  23. Brwrsfan, one reason Clay has disappeared is the nature of the NFL. We're mostly playing nickel, and he's one of 4 rushing. When we used to play a traditional 3-4 (very rare this season), It was harder for teams to scheme against Clay. I don't know the solution, but when you see sacks these days, they're mostly dominant linemen, coverage sacks, or blitzing DB's.
  24. Just thinking....as amazing as Rodgers and Crosby have been all careers, neither has many game winning drives or kicks to their credit. This was a huge monkey off their back.
  25. I'd rather have the Chiefs win this. Any time that's multi-dimensional scares me (Dallas, Pitt).
