  1. Luis Cruz is a single away from a cycle tonight and should get at least one more at bat.
  2. It is switch around he bats left and throws right. LouisEly It is not that people don't bat right and throw left, they're players that do. I believe that Cody Ross does ,but it is the position that Shaw plays. To play Second base you have to throw right handed. Same with catcher, shortstop, and thirdbase it would be a disadvantage to be left handed at those positions. Plus since there are more right handed pitchers then left most batters would want to take advantage of their ability to hit left if they can.
  3. Rafael Neda is making his debut for the AZL Brewers tonight. He had a RBI single in his first pro at bat.
  4. I don't know if it means anything but the Brewers 19th round pick Rowan Wick just change his facebook picture to the St John's emblem and his status is 8 days till New York. If I had to guess he is not going to sign and is going to go to St John's.
  5. That is not what I meant by unprotected. It means that if they don't sign Covey this year and also fail to sign their pick next year they don't get another one the year after. Teams with unprotected picks seem to pick safe slot guys because they don't want to risk not signing them. Even in a deep draft there is not going to be any safe slot guys with close to Covey's talent level.
  6. If they do that their pick would be unprotected so it would hurt their negotiation leverage. They would probably end up signing someone with less talent who is willing to sign for slot. I don't see them getting anyone with more talent than Covey so in the end they will sign him.
  7. 4 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 3 K 4/4 GO/AO. A rain delay forced Heckathorn out of the game for his second start in a row. Anybody know what happen to Josh Prince I haven't seen him in the box score since he was defensive replace in the 8th inning of Monday ball game?
  8. Jim Callis and John Manuel did a 97 minute podcasttoday where they talked about what each team faces at the signing deadline. Basically Jim Callis said he would be shocked if the Brewers didn't sign Covey. He also mentions that it is possible that Brewers could have already reached an agreement with Covey but the earliest that MLB would let them announce it would be Saturday. He believe that the Brewers only drafted Daniel Gibson as a back up plan to Covey and with Covey likely to sign it is highly unlikely that Gibson signs. He also mentions that the Brewers should give Chad Jones 200K just to keep his baseball rights like the Angels did with Jake Locker. Also Kendall Rogers of yahoo sports heard that Mat Gamel little brother Ben got around 500K from the Yankees.link
  9. The Manatees are in a delay home plate umpire got hit in the head with a foul tip and had to be taken off the field. Edit: Games back on both managers got together and elected to have Brewers roving hitting instructor Darnell Coles take over as infield umpire.
  10. Tom Haudricourt has a new article about the Brewers plan with Gamel. He also mention Lawrie is going to be experimenting at third base and in the outfield next offseason and during next spring. Link
  11. According to the Helena announcer Jimmy Nelson's fastball was between 93-94 mph last night.
  12. Callis also answered a Chad Jones question on twitter. "Goes into 2011 draft. @MitchellNJ: Chad Jones may not play football again. If Brewers don't sign him by 8/15 what happens to his BB rights??"
  13. Jim Callis answered a Dylan Covey question on twitter today. "Slot is $1.602 million. Guessing $2 million maybe? @Chuck_Schwartz: How much over slot does MIL have to go to sign Covey?"
  14. I've listened to three games that he pitched in this season. In two of them he was sitting 92-93 and in the other one he was sitting 90-91 but there was an article recently about him that stated that Scarpetta got up to 96 mph with recent mechanic changes.
  15. Jeremy Jeffress didn't show up in the box score last night but during the third inning when Cody Scarpetta was struggling Jeffress warm up and was almost put in the game. If Cody Scarpetta didn't get Nathan Hanson to pop out Jeffress would of been put in the game. I am not sure why Jeffress didn't come in for the sixth inning but I assume it is because they didn't why Jeffress to warm up twice in one game.
  16. Yeah utility is Farris best chance for reaching the majors. I've seen him compared to Chone Figgins more than once. I wonder what kind of range he has at short it couldn't be any worst then Zelous Wheeler.
  17. Because Dykstra is a year old and a right-handed hitter, I wonder if the Brewers would consider skipping him over Brevard County next year straight to Huntsville. Space Coast isn't nearly as hard on lefties as it is on righties, so Gennett shouldn't need to be "protected" from it.Not a bad idea, but with Brett Lawrie going to Nashville next season where does that leave Eric Farris? I wouldn't be surprise to see Farris starting at second for Huntsville next season.
  18. According to Jim Callis there have been no official deals over 150K after the fifth round yet. [tt]Steve (Wilmington): When do the floodgates open with the Commissioner's office approving above slot signings (i.e. above the 150K deals they don't hassle you about)? Less than 6 weeks from the deadline right now I think.[/tt] Jim Callis: Late this month. It has been interesting. I had heard from teams that slots were up this year, somewhere between 2008 and 2009, but almost everyone who has signed in the first five rounds has not exceeded the 2009 slots. No official deals over 150K after the fifth round, though UCLA coaches confirmed to Aaron Fitt that 24th-rounder Erik Goeddel has agreed to terms with the Mets. MLBTradeRumors.com reported the deal as being worth third-round money. MLB hasn't officially approved the transaction yet, though.
