  1. All I can figure is that the bullpen IS more flexible now. Hader's demanding to only be used in the 9th in save situations was pretty annoying...especially when he has 2-5 games where he completely blows up. We can't afford that in October.
  2. If it was only about Ruiz and Gasser, it seems like this move could have been made in the offseason and we could have kept Hader for the rest of this season's run. Oh well. Hopefully Rogers is a stud.
  3. No, it's the 40 man. However, McCalvy cleared it up with the service time explanation.
  4. I don't understand. We value Jonathan Davis, Trevor Kelley, Jason Alexander and Peter Strzelecki on the 40 man more than Dinelson Lamet? Heck, Perdomo, Milner and Suter seem vulnerable too...
  5. Somebody explain what's going on....brewers.com transaction page says that Severino and Dinelson Lamet were DFA'd today...that can't be right in Lamet's case, can it?
  6. I'm pretty sure that every sentence in this paragraph is incorrect.
  7. I'm guessing the deal is done even if Hosmer says no. Washington will just give SD a boatload of cash and SD can just DFA Hosmer (or trade him with cash to a team he approves of)
  8. I guess it depends what you mean by "can't miss." Last year Josiah Gray, Keibert Ruiz, Jesus Luzardo, Ezequiel Duran and Josh Smith were traded and those were deadline deals for rentals (not to mention Drew Rasmussen and JP Feyereisen). You are correct though in that if you want higher ceiling prospects you'll likely need to wait a couple years after the trade to see the results on the big league field.
  9. Why? If our scouting department is as good in the near future as it has been in the last 5 years, there is no reason we shouldn't be able to continually reload and stay competitive- a la the Rays. It's not like we would be trading away peanuts and a few bratwurst, we'd be trading away Cy Young candidates and the best reliever in baseball. That SHOULD command a SIGNIFICANT return that might impair the quality of the big league club for a year or so but will make it a lot better the 5-8 years after that. We might go from a true talent 95 win team to a true talent 85 win team for one year or so, but that is still competitive and likely a playoff team.
  10. The perfect example of this is Kershaw's pick-off in the all-star game. He rocked and tilted toward the plate in an OBVIOUS attempt to "deceive the runner"...then threw to first in a successful attempt at picking off Ohtani. Meanwhile, Gustave got called for a balk with zero attempt at any deception in a game that actually had playoff consequences. Sad.
  11. Usually guys with weird mechanics have a hole in their swing that gets exploited...Brown seems to be the opposite with elite k/bb rates and whiff/chase rates. I hope the Brewers wait for him to fail before making drastic changes.
  12. No, it's not. You can really only compare him to other middle IFers Brooks Lee, Jace Jung, and Zach Neto. Neto was better, Lee and Jung and Brown had very similar production. Jung won't be a middle infielder either as a pro. Also, Brown's whiff rate/chase rate and K/BB numbers are elite.
  13. huh? What's wrong with a 1.002 OPS? How is .344/.460/.544 "not good?"
  14. Fangraph's had as the 35th player on their big board. Not really a big overdraft. He was lower on MLBs list but whatever.
  15. 72 pitches for Ashby...seems lite, although I guess CC commented that they wanted Ashby to get subbed out BEFORE he got tired.
  16. Agreed... although Yelich was up next, which should have been a decent matchup...
  17. He's even using the pitch com I think....so it prolly wasnt a relayed sign from 2nd, but it looked like it
  18. How did he hit that out? Hard to fault Ashby
  19. If the odds were for that very next pitch, then I might buy it (but it still seems low), but the odds of a hit for the rest of the AB are obviously much higher. Regardless, its confusing without explanation.
  20. on the 3-1 count to Urias it said his hit probability was 5%...I'm no wizard, but I'm pretty sure that's so wrong that somebody should be embarrassed it was broadcast....or narrowcast, depending on how many people can find the game.
  21. If you have an old TV then you cant watch it on TV.
  22. Smart TV or Amazon firestick or Roku OR just get it on whatever device you are using to browse Brewerfan and then throw it to your TV on Chromecast or a wireless display
  23. I don't understand. I signed up, which took like 10 minutes. I get the audio on the apple tv+ website. But no video.
  24. Tonight is the game that sends Kyle Hendricks into retirement...I hope
