  1. Let's just say that I have connections to some alumni that have donated large amounts of money - some anonymously - to Marquette. I highly doubt these people have any motivation to say something other than what it really is. If you think "Buzzkill" is bad, just wait til you hear what the students come up for him over the course of the season. Really - a nickname like "Buzz" coupled with a panic hire after said alumni were led to believe MU was headed down a different path than what happened just invites such references. Do you honestly trust what Wild says to the paper? I surely don't. I trust him about as far as I can throw him, and that is not very far. Your statement about Miller's buyout supports the whole "$$$" issue - Wild simply did not want to pony up in light of what happened with Crean. Of course Ann Zizzo's going to support the Gold decision - she made $$$ off of it!
  2. Having issues with my batteries in my camera, so I'll have to wait til tomorrow to upload the fun-filled pics. Yes - definitely a fun time for all - BF.Net softballers, your presence will be mandatory after your game the next time we do this!
  3. I've heard the following: 1. Wild made the call to hire Buzzkill solely by himself. The AD was not involved. 2. The big issue that prevented coaches like Miller from taking this position seriously when MU contacted them was the amount of $$ offered. Wild did NOT want to pony up at all. The phrase "looking for the next Majerus" was bandied about. 3. Some trustees are NOT happy with this decision and how Wild did this singlehandedly and between this and Wild's singlehanded renaming attempt ("The Gold" was in no way, shape, or form discussed with the trustees OR the donors who offered MU $1M each - that was all Wild and his "brilliance") are wanting him out.
  4. Anyone else notice that Liz climbed into a time machine and is posting from either 2052 or 1952...? I'm guessing the former rather than the latter because I don't think Al Gore invented the Internet yet in 1952.
  5. I bet if I did that y'all would pretend that I'm not part of the Cool Kids Group.
  6. Yes they did, but alas, I do not own one. So just look for the really, really ridiculously good looking guy and you'll find me.
  7. Per Tom Haudricourt at JSOnline. An interesting move, to say the least, by DM. Maybe he's got something else up his sleeve...? Is signing all of Boras' clients DM's way of landing The Prince long-term?
  8. The entire team deserves to get some of the blame for giving up 151 points. Just because he's on the court, though, doesn't mean he was guarding Duhon, who DID score most of his points during junk time.
  9. I agree it's a recurring theme, but I disagree about Sessions. See my previous post: Most of Duhon's points were when Ivey was on him. Royal Ivey is an absolute waste of space on that roster. Why Larry K played him so much tonight made me at a loss. If you really want to know who killed us tonight, the fingers can be squarely pointed at Michael "I'll keep chuckin' til I get 20" Redd and Charlie "I Got 18 by chuckin' in the first quarter; I'll keep chuckin' even though I'm ice cold" Villanueva. Neither can play defense. Neither WANTS to play defense. Villanueva let Deng torch him for 32 tonight and we all know how Redd cannot stop a defender to save his life.
  10. I was at the game tonight, right behind the court, actually. Most of the time that Duhon scored, Ivey was on him. Sessions doesn't play NEAR as bad as D as Mo Williams. And can, you know, actually find cutters to the basket for beautiful passes. Mo, on the other hand, has mastered the art of dribbling in a circle and firing up a desperation 3 with the shot clock running down.
  11. It's early Sunday evening and - as usual - I'm delaying pulling out the ol' work laptop and getting some work done. I swear - all I do is work these days. I can't go out and "be young and have fun" nearly as much as I used to. And that makes me sad.
  12. Just because the game would be over doesn't mean that I'll be done! Come on down!
  13. Depends - do you want us sitting by you?
  14. I'm there, obviously. Booze + Brewers = heaven.
  15. 1. Why is this thread on page 4? 2. If anyone's looking for a fun bar to go to in downtown Milwaukee, I suggest My Office. Don't waste your time going a block over to Kennadee's or Tangerine or Three. Just skip the pretentiousness and go to My Office. 3. $4 for Jack & Cokes that are mostly Jack make me a very happy camper.
  16. Aaron? http://images.virtualology.com/images/1370.gif
  17. I grew to not like Crean as much as he grew more and more smug and egotistical. Sure, I was happy to have him around solely because he was light years (not Buzz) ahead of Mike Deane. Then again, Ned Yost might be light years ahead of Mike Deane as well..
  18. Crean changed a TON over the past few years. He WAS approachable up through the end of my undergrad days. But after that Final Four run, he did change. I've talked about this before. It's not an about face.
  19. No, but given all the pending sanctions against IU, the last thing they need to do is not play by the rules and at least ASK. The rules dictate they do so, and I wouldn't be surprised if this does get added to IU's growing list of infractions. I would agree that, before the infractions and after the sanctions finish running their course, IU is a better choice. I'm still surprised that Crean didn't take the IU job two years ago before IU got Sampsoned. IU 2 years ago > IU now. I guess we'll see what Crean's able to do with a reduced set of available scholarships.
  20. I'm saying that there's a difference between what Crean did and what most coaches do when they're about to go to a different job. I mean... IU didn't so much as even ask MU for permission! If Bo Ryan left for another program but it was heavily rumored that he was in the running and that other program, you know, asked for permission to talk to him... that's one thing. I don't think the students would be livid. Disappointed, you bet. But not livid. I'm sure they would, however, be livid if Ryan left under the same scenario that Crean did. It's not that Crean left that has people up in arms, it's how he did it. We understood the realities of the NCAA basetball coaching profession and figured that Crean was bound to leave sooner or later. Just because we went to MU doesn't make us stupid, you knowhttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  21. There's a difference with being ecstatic over the fact that the program isn't in the dumps like it was back in '99 - believe me, after going through those first two years of Crean where he was stuck building it up from the bare cupboards, I'm thankful for how the program has improved - and being ecstatic with Tom Crean. I've always had a concern about Crean's inability to recruit semi-competent bigs to compliment his constant stream of wing/outside players and others have echoed my criticisms of Crean's inability to manage in close games where they have to come from behind. 1. You wouldn't see Bo Ryan leave in the manner Crean did. At least... I'd hope he wouldn't. I'm sure if he did, though, Badger fans would be even angrier since Bo's never once given that "I'm getting other offers" vibe that Crean has for what, the past 4-5 years.2. If Badger fans didn't all but burn him in effigy if he left in that fashion, then I would really question the passion of the fan base. But again, I'm sure they would all but riot. I'll be honest - I'm surprised Kendall's doing everything to the level he is thus far. So far I've been (wait for it) wrong about him. I'd like to be (wait for it) wrong about Buzz Lightyear but for some strange reason I don't think that's going to be the case.
  22. The best part was when you could hear everyone booing the Rickrolling. Guess the Mets fans, like management, just don't have good senses of humor.
  23. Check (did so while in Ireland last September. On dial-up, no less). Check (I do so when I wake up as well). Check (Email, Facebook, then lots of time on BF). So what do I win...?
  24. But the big question is: Do you still have the umbrella?
  25. I don't think I've gone on the record as saying Crean was a "great" coach. I've implied very strongly on several occasions this season that he was afraid of standing up to Dominic James and benching him, for example. I criticized his "get the ball to McNeal" strategy on the last play of regulation against Stanford. I think I've made it very clear where I stand on Crean - he's a decent coach and a good recruiter. Not a great coach or a great recruiter.
