  1. Not to get all "conspiracy theory" on y'all but... would it be plausible that Darth Vader - I mean, Scott Boras - told Prince to say that stuff to the media just to make the Brewers look bad...? I would definitely not put it past him in his constant PR war that he wages with teams. The guy's ego's been bruised a little from the A-Rod situation; he'll do anything to rebuild/enhance his leveraging position.
  2. KegStand, you're dead on with that. James cannot put it together because he doesn't want to. Maybe Crean should consider benching James for a couple of games. Say to him "get your wrist, your ankle, and your head healthy and then you can get your spot back."
  3. James showed yesterday why he has no business even thinking about the NBA draft this year. The last play in regulation AND the final play in the game, where James took his sweet time bringing up the ball with less than 8 seconds to go and then promptly choked, show why he's not ready. He has to be a lot smarter than that on the court.
  4. And the Barroid show continues: Unsealed Court Documents to Show Bonds Failed More than One Steroid Test What's the over/under on the amount of failed tests for Bonds? I say four total.
  5. Mr. and Mrs. Taint McFadden...? Oh wait...
  6. I figured I'd let FTJ's tic-tack-toe playing chicken have a shot in this league. Hey - this should be fun!
  7. So, apparently the blame somehow winds up on Fielder's shoulders for not stopping Ned after he got drilled...? And continuing with Ned's delusion: How about the team not giving up because they were professionals...? Or because they were mad that they were knocked out so late...? Um... I think we've listed a pretty long grocery list of things that he could have done differently over here at BF.Net. Ned would have been talking to TH all week if he wanted to cover them all.
  8. That's how I'm reading it, Peavey. Now it's just a matter of following the smoke trail to the fire...
  9. BALCO. They wanted to make sure The Clear lived up to its name. Apparently... it did not. I wonder how Barry's going to spin this one... "Uhh... that wasn't my test; it was my wife's! They all just misremembered!"
  10. Already being discussed here (Not to grandstand on my own post but... hehe) EDIT: Changed link - b19
  11. Now... the questions are: 1. Why wasn't this disclosed sooner? 2. Will Bonds' records be stripped? 3. Will Barry lead the Penal League in HR for the next few years?
  12. For Barry Bonds these days, any opportunity to steal a headline from Roger Clemens is one he can't pass up... right, Barry? Even this one? Bonds Failed Steroid Test in 2001 - "Whoops, my bad. That was a 'typo.'" Take THAT, Roger Clemens! EDIT: My favorite part: So... it would seem that Barry *did* test positive. Just a year earlier than originally stated, I guess. So is Barry going to go Pujols on ESPN now for the misleading initial report...? Better yet - is Barry going to go Pujols on me for "misleading" Brewerfan.net...?
  13. Where would you be studying abroad? I'd seriously contemplate that option.
  14. Yeah, and FTJ would have sent his Tic-Tac-Toe playing chicken loose on the field to chase Ned around. Now the big question is: Why did this not get released sooner? Was DM afraid of the backlash?
  15. Report: Schilling injury could be career-ender I now officially issue an apology for my desire to have signed Curt Schilling earlier this off-season. Thank goodness that did not happen.
  16. Want: Sheets, Yo, SoupCan, Villy, Capuano/Bush (I think I just threw up a little in my mouth) Yosted/Melvined: Sheets, Yo, SoupCan, Capuano, Bush (I really think I'm going to be sick...) I seriously don't understand why Villy is considered to be more valuable in the pen than in the rotation. The guy has more than earned his spot, especially compared to the trio of Bush, Capuano, Vargas. Parra needs to have another season of health in that arm before I say he's rotation-ready out of the gate.
  17. Become AARP-eligible. Seriously, though, I'd have enough time to channel-surf through my digital cable offerings. And maybe find something that is more appealing than watching paint dry.
  18. Actually, according to ESPN, it's worse: That's brutal right there.
  19. I'm not rejecting the analysis, Russ; I'm disagreeing with the conclusion and I'm presenting what I feel is a fair counter-analysis based on the "rules" implied through the original analysis. And I'm not saying that Capuano is the #5, especially if for some insane reason, Yost and Melvin decide that Villy is better suited for the 'pen. IF that happens, Capuano is roughly on the same footing as Bush and Vargas, and only a little bit worse off than Suppan. That's four pitchers there that aren't exactly world beaters that could be the Brewers' #3-5 pitchers. That's what I'm concerned about. Maybe I'm expecting more out of the rotation than most people, but the bottom line is if the Brewers want to go deep into the playoffs, they need a solid #3, at the very least. And with Sheets' recent history, saying that they need a solid #4 isn't too far of a stretch, either. Is it a cheese sandwich...?
  20. Russ, let's be honest: Right now, the Brewers have, really, two: Sheets and Gallardo, and there are question marks around both of them. Sheets because of his recent injury history (who knows what random part will break this year) and Gallardo because of his relatively small sample size. If Villanueva gets a spot in the rotation, then that's three. But based on TH's comments in his Bush signs for 2.55 M blog entry, for some odd reason Villy has not been guaranteed a spot in the rotation. Ideally, the plan would be to maximize the opportunities to win. And to do that would at least in part involve running out as many plus starting pitchers as possible.
  21. I swear I'm in the Twilight Zone here - people still defending Capuano. Granted, I don't see anyone defending Vargas right now, so I guess I can go back into Winter Hibernation Mode for a little longer. Both are not what I'd call acceptable results; I'd rather not say one is worse than the other. A hitter succeeding 50% of the time is beyond outstanding; a pitcher succeeding 50% of the time (Quality Starts, whatever you want to use for your metrics) is not what playoff-caliber teams need to win.
  22. On that note, let's review his July: 2 "good" starts (7/18 and 7/23) 3 "not-so-good" starts (7/8, 7/13, 7/28) 1 "inconclusive" start (7/3) Since you've conceded August, let's go right on ahead to June: 1 "good" start 1 "inconclusive" start And May: 2 "good" starts (5/7, 5/28) 3 "not-so-good" starts (5/13, 5/18, 5/23) and of course, 1 "inconclusive" start (5/2) That's 3 months right there that Capuano was not exactly very good. I'm excluding June since he was injured. And let's review the second half of 2006: July (post-All Star Break): 2 "good" starts (7/21, 7/31) 2 "not-so-good" starts (7/15, 7/26) August: 4 "good" starts (8/11, 8/16, 8, 22, 8/27) 1 "not-so-good" start (8/6) September: 3 "good" starts (9/1, 9/6, 9/18) 3 "not-so-good" starts (9/13, 9/23, 9/29) Let's be honest, if the Brewers are to compete this year, they need a more consistently-good effort out of their starting pitching. And for the past season and a half now, Capuano has failed to answer the bell start in and start out. And the Brewers can ill-afford to throw him in the rotation with the hopes that he'll do better overall. It's maddening seeing Capuano have good games and then a bunch of bad ones. But, unfortunately, it emphasizes his overall inconsistency. And that is why it'd be a gamble to put him into the rotation. EDIT: And this pretty much supports my point as to why having him in the rotation is not a good idea.
  23. My new secret weapon for these says it is possibly one of the following: Travis Tritt JC Chasez Barry Williams Jackie Chan Pavarotti (?) Marvin Gaye (?!) David Brin (?) Hugh Jackman (!) Sam Cooke (?!) and last but not least... Rock Hudson (?) Hmm... so much for my secret weapon. (Pssst... the "secret weapon" is MyHeritage.com)
  24. It was mostly August... and July... and June. And holy small sample size - month-by-month? I'm saying that if you look at his 1.5 season trends here, he had one 1.5 season stretch (2005-1st half of 2006) where he was pretty darn good and now one 1.5 season stretch (2nd half of 2006 - present) which was Obermueller-esque.
