  1. If you're interested at all in the NBA then you should check out 82games.com Great statistical analysis and they have a metric called "Fair Pay". This stat bases what a player should make per their production. Redd is around 18 million a year. It helps you decide if a player is really overpaid and yes, plenty are. *EDIT* At least there used to be....maybe I'm thinking of another site or book (I don't think Wages of Wins had this stat...) that talked about this....I swear I thought it was 82games.com that made up this stat. Anyways, I recall seeing it and Redd's money for production numbers were very good.
  2. Oddly, Ellis was like 20 when he was drafted out of high school. From John Hollinger: "One other point also must be made that will temper the Warriors' enthusiasm: Apparently his high school believed in redshirting, because Ellis was 20 when last season tipped off even though he skipped college and went straight to the pros. Somehow he's two years old older than another prep-to-pro in his draft class, Andrew Bynum, and has about 18 months on most of the others. He's only four months younger than Darko Milicic, believe it or not. " But the fact he's so young and showed promise last year is definitly note worthy. He's not a 4 year college player who looked good his second year, at age 24 or something.
  3. I'm not sure what else it would take form Golden State to trade the draft rights to Yi. Monte Ellis had a good year last year and it was only his second year. And you do have to assume some risk when trading a draft pick sometimes. But I feel like the ceiling on Yi is perceived to be much higher than that of Ellis. Same with Harris. As for Woeful's rumor of Bobby Simmons and the 6th for Matrix: Yes, I'd do that in a second. In fact, I'd do it so fast I'm convinced Phoenix would never consider it. If we make that trade then I'm a very happy boy. As for the comment about the NBA salary cap and how it pertains to star players, he's right: Players like Tim Duncan are severely underpaid. The Super Star Duncan, LeBron, etc types should be paid a whole lot more. But they can't be because of limits.
  4. With all that talk about Devin Harris for the #6, I agree I'd rather go for Monte Ellis, since Golden State really wants Yi. However, it would take more than that for me. It would start with Monte Ellis.
  5. That's not really true, about OPS greatest to least. There's algorithms for measuring the "optimal" lineup and it's definitely not OPS top to bottom. However, it is based on SLG and OBP, the aggregates of OPS of course. But OPS is wrong in that it gives equal value to SLG and OBP when in fact OBP is worth more than SLG per point. So a player with high SLG and average OBP will probably have a higher OPS than a guy with a high OBP and average SLG, but the team is "optimized" when the higher SLG player bats afterwards. But OPS is a simple calculation and handy for quick reference. Regardless you're right, having your 8 or 9 best batters is the most important thing. Order (unless you really screw it up) doesn't matter as much.
  6. Yeah, Counsell or the pitcher should bat 3rd in the lineup. Are you suggesting Prince lead off? J/k of course, but it's been noted that players batting in front of him have done well all year.
  7. If you have a MAX dollars contact on your team and you dont make the playoffs, that Max Contact was a MAJOR mistake no matter how you look at it. Thats the truth boys. Kevin Garnett. Tracy McGradey. Pau Gasol. Kobe Bryant. Jermaine O'Neil. Paul Pierce. Ray Allen. Vince Carter. Allen Iverson. These are all max type players who have on occasion(s) missed the playoffs. this is just off the top of my head. Redd's team missed this year because of the immense amount of injuries. Get real.
  8. He's a 1 dimensional player now? Define 1 dimensional, please. A 1-d player is Kyle Korver. Stands around the perimeter waiting to get a pass so he can make a shot. Redd controls the other teams defense with his ability to score from anywhere, form any position and at a high percentage. You act like he should score less? He was our most efficient scorer last year and in fact the team would have done better to allow him to score more. Also, another dimension he adds is that he gets doubles and tripled (and box and one'd...in the NBA!) a lot. When you do the math you can quickly see this opens up another player or two. Even when he's off the ball he's being defended and at the least has someone shading him. He opens up the offense this way. His passing got better last year although improvement is always great. But calling him a 1 d player is unfair. He brings so many active and passive facets to the offense. Offensively he is an elite player. I fail to see how Mike Redd is this teams problem.
  9. I don't like it because all we do is add 2 more prospects to the team. You don't win in the NBA with strictly young talent. Draft picks are over rated. I'd rather trade them in for a good player from a team that wants to start over with a youth movement. Exploit the perceived notion that this draft is of the highest quality for potential NBA talent.
  10. We are currently 12th in the NL with road wins. Of course a lot of those teams play the same teams the Brewers have. In the same vein, do you think we'd win 8 of 9 or 9 of 10 at home against the Mets, Padres and Tigers in a stand? Is that likely? Probably a bit more likely when you have a Cards/Pirates/Nationals or a Giants/Royals/Astros home stand. First it has to be admitted that we've played more good teams than bad teams on the road to date. From this fact we can determine we have a lot of bad teams left to play on the road. So our relative record on the road is in effect pretty good, considering the circumstances. We can also determine that we have some harder home games ahead of us and our home percentage may dip some. But I'd expect our road percentage to rise, nearly symmetrically. I think we've performed as we should against the teams we've played on the road.
  11. Look at the teams we've played on the road. We've actually done pretty well on the road. We've played: Mets, Phillies, Dodgers, Padres, Tigers, Twins and Cubs on the road. Of these series you could argue we should probably do 1-2 on all of them, give or take. We were only swept once, by a surging Padres team. We actually beat the Twins, Cubs and more impressively the Tigers. Are you suggesting we should be beating up on all these teams on the road? We've won almost every series besides these on the road, as it would be argued we should. We haven't swept anyone on the road yet. The only series we should have won and we lost was against Texas. And we probably should have considering we had a 4 run lead with 2 outs in the ninth inning in one of the games. Now we have some cup cakes coming up after the Cubs series with 7 roadies against the Pirates and Nationals. We've played out toughest portion of our schedule being the tough teams away. We have in fact done pretty well on the road when you consider who we've played and the results we've gotten. We're not losing to the bad teams and are getting a game from the good teams. We just haven't played as many bad teams on the road yet.
  12. I think the Bucks' plan right now is to wait and see. They want to see if their guys are available at 6 and if not, draft the best player and deal or draft for someone else in a deal. If we don't draft Conley or Horford, both of which are doubtful it seems, don't expect the player we draft to be playing for the Bucks next year. I'm in the Horford/Conley/Trade camp. Essentially the trade camp. I'm holding out for Pau Gasol, however unlikely that may be. But Bogut, Gadz and the #6 should get it done, easily. Maybe even request a future first form them lotto protected for 3 years.
  13. Should be a good game and a great series. I'm kinda hoping we take 2/3 but a sweep will do just fine too. It would be nice if YoGa goes in there and just humiliate them, setting the stage for the next couple days. Regardless of the outcome, there's still plenty of season left. I think Cubs fans are a bit more excited for this one than we are, as they think they're on equal grounds now that they've won 7 of 10 (although we've won 8 of 10) and are within a game of .500 (somewhere we haven't been below all year) so setting them straight (the Cubs are 2 levels below the Brewers) would be fun indeed.
  14. Downtown or bust. The south side doesn't have very many wealthy neighborhoods so you won't see the kind of decent suburban municipalities often put on over there. You have to go to the north shore cities to get better fireworks, or now days out to some Waukesha areas. The Milwaukee parks just don't have the money to put on good firework displays. They have what they have, but it isn't much. I remember just laughing at how terrible the Noyes Park fireworks were last time I saw those. Make the trip downtown if you want to see good fireworks. You'll see really, really good fireworks this way. Get to Veterans Park early and make a day of it. Or just get down there sometime around 6 or 7 and stand around and wait. Lots of people down there and it's a hassle, but they're good fireworks. Or drive out to Brown Deer or Mequon. They usually have decent shows. Menomonee Falls always had a decent show. On the south side maybe Franklin has a good show?
  15. This would be a big win going into the Cubs series.
  16. Idiots would pay that much. ($100.00 for upper grandstand) I never understood when people say it's impossible to get tickets to Wriggley. It's usually Kenosha Cubs fans who are scared to go to Chicago. I just buy them off guys on the streets. Buy them from the guys who run the little parking lots in the area. You'll pay little over face if you haggle right. And if you wait for the game to start you'll really get a deal. Remember it's on you. They're going to try and get what they can. Walk away and talk to other people. Although a Brewers ticket might be a little harder to get.
  17. You'd imagine his value decreases every time he pitches as that's a game he could have been pitching for his new suitors. I think MLB teams are smart to not trading away a lot of prospects. Especially fail proof prospects for a rental pitcher. But in the Brewers' case, we have a pretty well set field of young players so we can give a good player or 2 at the AAA level away because they probably won't be here for a little bit. I wouldn't give up the farm for him, but I think we have pieces in the minors and MLB that would create a fair deal for him. And we've worked with the Sox in the past in successful deals so the relationship is there.
  18. Who cares if people boo? It's a baseball game. They paid for their ticket and have every right to boo. It's not lewd, profane or disorderly. It's booing a guy you don't like. And I don't blame people for booing him. He's on the other team now. I don't boo him because I have nothing against him and aren't interested in booing. But who cares what other people do? If anything it's jestful booing. I don't think there's real hatred there. If it really bothers Carlos then he should have accepted our contract. But obviously 50 million dollars means something to him and I don't blame him. He's totally not worth the money btw!
  19. It would be silly to trade Villaneuva for a rental. This kids been amazing. I'd think about Inman long and hard. I'd definitely throw in Gwynn. Maybe throw in Parra considering his stock won't get higher! Zach Jackson is a candidate as well. Would rather do Vargas than Bush. But I wouldn't deal Villy. He's been key to our bullpen and the guy who can finish long games and cover for a rocky starter. I'd give a starting pitcher in Vargas and MiLB prospects.
  20. Magloire did fit a need because he would allow them to dump Boozer and get an expiring contract in Magloire that could be moved or at worst be off the books at the end of the year and open up FA opportunities. Williams would have been their SG, which was made obvious this year they needed bad.
  21. Prince is the second leading total vote getter for the NL, behind Beltron.
  22. In hindsight it looks like a no brainer. Williams and Magloire for this years version of Carlos Boozer and potentially their 1st rounder. I was actually promoting this (acquiring Boozer) last summer and hoped the Bucks would. But it was just too risky. He'd been injured for a couple years and looked like he was busting. His value was at an all time low because he hadn't done anything and was injury plagued the last couple years. So taking him on would have been dangerous because we would have been stuck with a guy over the next few years who couldn't play and destroyed our cap, potentially. I used to use RealGM and I don't recall hardly anyone wanting to trade for Boozer last summer when it was brought up.
  23. Regarding "Miller Chill", didn't Miller Brewing create a "Man Law" strictly prohibiting the "fruiting of the beer"? That is, it's against a Man Law to "Fruit the beer". I get the feeling Miller has broken one of their very own man laws by....fruiting the beer. As per the ad's: "Can you put a lime or any other fruit in your beer? No, fruit is completely off limits in beer. If one was to put fruit in a beer, they might as well put a little umbrella in it and call it a "beera colada". Man Law: "Don't Fruit the Beer.""
