  1. Before the season, I thought he only was promoted to make room for Iribarren, but he's done quite nicely in Nashville. He's still pretty young, is a switch hitter, has learned to play the OF, and still walks more than strikes out. I could see a space for him as an IF-OF utility guy after Graffy is gone. Might be between him and Rottino.
  2. I have a hard time thinking of cj wilson and pat neshek being the target of a "big trade". Cheap relatively young relievers which their teams would probably prefer to keep, but otherwise not inspiring that much value. A big trade is Dunn or Griffey or Ichiro or Abreu...
  3. you could replace him with Rottino, who can play all 5 corners on the field. I doubt he'd do noticeably better than Mench as a hitter. He'd probably be a downgrade as a fielder.
  4. I can't see why you'd expect him to perform significantly better than Mench, who, BTW, has been great in the field.
  5. "Crawford is really not that much better than Gwynn. " Wow is that wrong. Crawford basically does EVERYTHING better than gwynn, except, perhaps, defense in CF. I personally think you couldn't get him for what I'd be willing to give up (hall and bush would be a no-brainer deal to me). He's signed to a long-term, friendly contract, he's 25. He's not my ideal top-of-the order hitter (which is why he bats 3rd mostly), but he's a valuable guy, and supposedly a gem in the lockerroom, too. Brewers could have him bat behind Rickie.
  6. I hardly think striking out every 8 AB can be called poor plate discipline. If so, might as well shoot brent brewer now.
  7. I assume he had something in his contract that would make him a free agent if not on the 40 man at mid year. Do you get service days for being on the 40? I didn't think so. If not, it's strictly a vanity move for Dillon.
  8. Is paciorek a son of one of the former major leaguers by that name? brewers have a lot of sons in their system. dillard, brantley, gwynn, fielder...
  9. I can't see why Brantley didn't get much love before this season. A youngster with great plate discipline works for me. I still wouldn't project him as being a star, but I can't really see why fermaint, cain, ford, et al. deserve to be ranked above him.
  10. Balfour and Oxspring are both older pitchers who got a cup of coffee, and are trying to get back. Both are doing exceptionally well, though because of their age are not true prospects. I personally wouldn't have any problem with either of them being the 12th guy on the staff. They could still have a major league career, however I don't see how they'll get a chance, barring injuries or the recovery of the incriminating photos of Melvin that Spurling possesses. Anyone else curious to see how they could do with another shot in the show? Otherwise, there'll probably some team that gives them a shot next season.
