  1. This is the most common response from those that support Yost. I don't get it. Don't get me wrong, I understand some reasons why people seem to like Ned...I don't agree with them, but I understand them. The problem is that the most common retort about anything regarding Ned is that he must be doing something right. I can't remember anyone naming something that he does consistently well. Even most supporters agree that he's not good with the bullpen. He was good with the young guys even though he now says that they're not young guys anymore even though he still called them kids in his press conference. I think we can all pretty much agree that he's horrible with the media. Hell, there are some days when I would take a Guillen press conference over one of Ned's. So what does he do well that justifies him keeping his job? I will first say that I am neither a supporter or a basher. I believe that the manager has much less to do with the outcome than some believe. But this bashing has really gotten to me because we have now gotten to defensive replacements and how he acts in the media. Defensive replacements are done when there is a big difference in what the player brings in the field. Kapler is no butcher in the field so Cameron got the entire day off. And Yost in the media. Who cares? Melvin, Yost, or any other figure in sports gives the same quotes and crap in most interviews. So you don't like his tone or whatever. Come on, this is getting silly. The players make a much bigger difference than any of this and there must be a better way to vent your anger. As for what he does right? Who says what is right or wrong? Because of bunch of people write on the internet, it's right or wrong? I question some moves but there are always other reasons as to why we lost the game. If you a Yost bashing thread, we should have never lost a game. All the answers are in there. We could get shutout and Yost put a bad lineup out there or made a bad pitching change. It's funny to read but it seems as if we should never lose and all the venting is aimed at him. You could watch any baseball and ask the same questions about the manager. But I will guess that for every time you got something right, there were twenty other things that worked and nothing was said. A great example is in the bars. From the sounds of it, it may be some of the same people here. But we give up runs and you hear, "Yost sucks, why didn't he put in? or "Pinch hit you idiot". There are many more but you get the idea. Well they scream this stuff all game long. Well sooner or later you will get one right and then you can say "See, Yost is an idiot" But there were so many crazy things said before, you made 5 pitching changes and used 3 pinch hitters and its only the 7th. It is all hog wash to me. If we pitch better and hit a bit more, all will be well and Yost will still get heat. It has started and now some want us to do poorly so he gets fired (what?) and even if we do well if is because the players bailed him out (what?). He will never be right in some minds and that is what gets me. I guess you can never admit when Yost is right because that would hurt you case of hating him.
  2. Well seeing the game was 3-2, runs weren't exactly easy to come by. I think one run would make a pretty big difference.
  3. A bunt is a not that crazy of a call. And it prevents the double play. It's a one run game and I would love insurance. This Ned thing and this board have gone totally overboard on this entire issue of the coach. I can't even believe some of the things that are said here. It is really unbelievable unless I read it myself.
  4. I find it hilarious that people have now gone to "defensive replacements" as a reason to bang on Ned. It just gets better and better. Is this really what we have become? On a side note, what is going to be the thing Ned did wrong here if Torres doesn't get it done? I know its not the players fault.
  5. These comments are the things I question most when reading people who simply bash yost no matter what he does. He doesn't use Mota in every 8th inning. I believe the number of times was already discussed before. When Riske and Gagne were healthy he used Torres as an 8th inning guy as well. That option was not there now. So either you haven't seen enough games or just want to rag on Yost. The blanket statement above is simply not true.
  6. Well this is the stuff that gets me. Mota has been good for the most part and has had his troubles as any other reliever in the league. So I don't think you can just say he was going to be bad. As for Shouse, I simply don't know what to say there. He has been really good and won't even comment on that. You are clearly upset and blaming everyone involved. I just think Cameron would have made a difference and Weeks just isn't the best fielder and we know that. As for bullpen roles, it is what it is. What don't you understand? Every team does it so this is not a mind blowing thing. It's not just Yost. Teams pay big money to sign setup and closers in the offseason and at the trade deadline. So they are going to be used there. Mota is our guy and if he is rested, he is going to go. Yost has other things to worry about when deciding on usage of a pitcher. If a reliever pitches two innings, he will then need more recovery time. He prefers to use guys less is possible so he has more options available for today and for the games ahead. But you can think you called everything and on and on. I guess you can read the future and should pick up managing so you make the move before it happens. Sometimes I think people need to take a step back and look at the whole season. We win games and everybody is giddy with excitement. We lose and Yost sucks and we have every excuse for the players. We should be able to hold that lead. Period. This Yost thing is just out of control and apparently players would play better if he was gone. I don't see it. As for TH. I think he looks at the games alot like I do and that pisses people off. He doesn't get to excited about things when they are bad and not overly excited when they win a bunch. It is a LONG season and the ups and down, even on this board, are really crazy. People jumped off and were not even on the board during all the losing. Game threads werea few pages long and very quiet. But now the threads are busy again and Yost is still to blame for everything. I think TH is tired of the same stuff as well just like Witrado when he answers his blog. I am tired of it as well and like to enjoy the games. Not just sit there and pick out things I would do different and reasons to hate Yost. That has to be a miserable way to watch the games. (pared back long quote --1992)
  7. I totally agree but aside from a few who wanted Cameron for defense alone, Gabe has become a favorite and most wanted him in there. Funny to see Ned get ripped for this though. Shows that no matter what he does, he will get the blame for something not going right. If Cameron started last night he would have been an idiot for not playing the hot hand. We are all upset when we lose but I don't know how complaining about everything will help. Does it make some feel better when they have someone to yell at?
  8. Yeah, rested bullpen and Mota clearly didn't have it, so why not have someone warmed up before Helton? Why is Kapler still there late with a slim lead? Can't believe you said this about BF.net number one guy. If he gets taken out Ned gets ripped for that. I am not defending Ned. I am simply saying that complaining about Ned tonight is simply being pissed off and looking for a reason. Come up with something new. Like maybe a player messed up and couldn't get outs. It's not like he put in Defelice. It works and it was the right move but not of course everybody has the right answer. Give me a break.
  9. No clue how Ned always comes up. What did he do here? We have done the same things all year. Rested bullpen so our 8th inning guy comes in. Now Shouse gets lit. Has nothing at all to do with Ned. Get over it already people.
  10. Well he has been our 8th inning guy all year so it was no surprise. And as I write this another hit. Someone said it before. Cameron should be out there in this ballpark. More speed and better at judging the ball.
  11. Cameron catches that ball. Gabe looked lost out there.
  12. I don't what you are talking about. They know there is a problem and it is not as easy as a switch. Relax and it will be back soon.
  13. Take a deep breath. It's very early and you can't get worked up about that. If that is the case you probably are already on edge when an inning starts.
  14. What site are you on? I like going to fan sites sometimes.
  15. Sorry as well. I got your post but wanted to give the Sox their own credit. All of it is a joke and this is the media biased society we live in today.

  18. Not only the yankees. They do give Boston the love also. I mean they also have been breaking down Big Papi's injury on every show and how it will effect the Sox. What a bunch of crap.

  21. I can't believe anyone knew he was pitching tonight. I mean, Espn only had outside the lines, espn news, PTI, and every other show talking and analyzing it.

  24. While I agree that as Hall's decision, I remember back to a couple double steals that were ripped apart here because they were called Ned's decision. I think many of these plays are up to the players and this one has nothing to do with Ned because it worked. Especially stealing third base. You just have to wait for a good jump and take it when possible. But most of the time it is a bad gamble. But very rarely can a manager call a steal of third on a particular pitch. It works this way on alot of thing that happen to work. But when something doesnt work it immediately gets put on Ned. Players will make a manager look good or bad.
  25. This is what I don't get with these rants. How you will question how Yost has a job but then talk about how bad our defense is. Put God in our dugout and he is not going to win with the horrific hitting and defense this team puts out there. I won't even get into the pitching. I simply don't understand how you can say both things. The players on this team have under performed so much this year and yet all we seem to talk about is Yost. It is old and I don't think it is warranted this often. Complain about him because we are losing but all of the things wrong with this team falls on the players. My rant is people on the internet and radio complaining about Yost more often than the players. If you read and listen enough I think you will actually believe that Yost plays and has more affect on the game than the players do. Now we say he is not motivating the players enough. His duties over the course of this last week have consisted of teaching baserunning, more motivation, and better defense. If a major league manager has to do these things, he is in big trouble already. I just am sick of the losing and the excuses and complaining people do that have nothing to do with the players. Everyone is frustrated.
