  1. I would if you were comparing it to good players. But your argument was that he was 4th in OPS, at his position, in the NL, for an argument. So you are basically saying that his OPS is better than the likes of those players I listed. YIPEEE! You are obviously the person with rose colored glasses for Hardy so I will leave this alone. He has been this same player for his whole career except the last couple years he had a hot streak to mask the rest. This year he has not had that. But this is the same guy that has been her for the past 4 years and many have worn those same glasses that you have for JJ.
  2. This is an argument that people have used with me before. So because he is 4th in ops or top 5 in some stat at his position, he is a good hitter? Take out the studs that are in front of them and you are saying he is better than Furcal, Y. Escobar, S. Drew, Guzman, Greene, Theriot, Tejada......Yipee. Great his OPS was above them. He is not a good hitter and his defense is solid but nothing special. That needs to stop being this great thing he brings to the table.
  3. He has never been a good hitter. Just because you have a couple hot streaks the past couple years doesn't mean he was a good hitter. Has always been awful but a hot streak would mask his looking awful at the plate and the fact that he is a very loved guy with brewer fans. He has always looked awful and had no approach at the plate. Doesn't move runners or situational hit. Just goes up there and tries to make contact. And if you are saying this is the first year I was right, why does two decent years make him a good hitter. Take out a couple weeks each of the past two years and he is pretty awful. So I guess you got a month worth of good hitting over the years.
  4. Hate's a pretty strong word I have had this battle with people many times before. I have disliked hime for a couple years at least. He is a below average hitter with ok defense. The day he is traded will be a good day for me. People tend to look the other way on JJ for some reason when he doesnt hit or plays bad defense. No idea why seeing he has never really been a big star or anything. Or maybe that is why. But I really can't stand him at all.
  5. JJ helping the team again. Man the hate keeps growing. And Looper liked that great play by JJ as well.
  6. I have always disliked JJ's game but I am hating him more and more with every passing game.
  7. When was the last time Hardy didnt look bad? I can't remember.
  8. This is exactly why JJ doesn't get as much heat as other players when he is slumping. There are actually people who watch (assuming here) a majority of brewer games and actually believe JJ is this valuable. You take out a couple weeks of JJ's season last year and his year is pretty bad. He went on that tear and hit something like 8 HR in a week or so and had one other stretch that he was absolutely crazy good. But he also went thru awful stetches last year. And when he is bad, he is really, really bad. Plus you also see the people who talk about how hot he was on the home stand. I guess? He had a few games where he has multiple hits. So now he is getting hot? He is just a guy who gets a pass most of the time because he is so well liked. He has been just awful this year and people are at least starting to talk about the subject. But to say he is more valuable to Prince or Braun is simply crazy. I can't believe it's even talked about. You do not worry about when JJ is coming up in the order. Ever! (edit: long nested quote --1992)
  9. The pitcher pitched well? Why do the mets only have 1 run?
  10. I like Yo going out. He can put a quick inning together and be done just under 120. Not that big of a deal. I don't know why it always becomes a big deal anytime a pitcher goes over 100. When is that the "set in stone" line that you cannot cross?
  11. i didn't say he was horrible... he is what he is... AAAA Just my honest opinion of him! I hope he does well because we don't have much else! I was asking my same question about the comments. The early posts were saying how lopsided the pitching matchup was but then are surprised when one of the best hitters in the game hits a home run. He is a 5th starter in the league and happens to be matched up against a stud. Santana has been hittable at times. Some just make comments sometimes like the brewers should never be down in a game.
  12. First off, why are we comparing the phillies in regards to determining if we can make the playoffs? We can make the playoffs by winning the division or the wildcard so we are not going head to head with them. But to say that we are not remotely close to them is not correct. Take Utley and Howard against Braun and Fielder I guess and then JJ and Rollins are equally as bad this year. Then you have Werth and Vicorino to go against Hart and Cameron. I am not sure how this is "not remotely close" but add that to the fact that they play their games in one of the most hitter friendly parks and probably helps there stats a bit. This could be one big reason why Ibanez is having just a spectacular year at age 37. There offense has been just as shaky as anybodys this year so this comment just kind of caught my attention.
  13. Here is what I don't get. We say we need to win now and we can't play players based on salary or past results. We hear constant complaints when someone is held out of the lineup when they are in a current hot streak. Yet we need to play Gamel over a hot Casey and Counsell combination? I just don't get that. Gamel just played a bunch this past week with interleague and he has hit "ok". But I wouldnt say that it was good enough to say that he needs to be in the lineup everyday. We need to stick with the guys that are doing well not only at the plate but are also good in the field. Gamel will get his time. A little patience is what is needed right now. We need all the guys that are hitting in the lineup. We don't have much excess offense so we need all we can get.
  14. You are talking about JJ. He is one player that doesn't get much play. If he can be this bad and not get much heat you have to be very popular. But I am with you. He is just as awful as anybody and Hall, Kendall, Hart, and even Prince last year have gone thru their stetches of fan complaints and bombing. But JJ is yet to really get anything like any of the other players have gotten.
  15. This is exactly what the brewer fan has become. All the talk is about Soup and how bad a start he is having. Yet he should have been out of the inning long before. JJ is awful at the plate and blows it in the field andbarely a mention. Soup this and soup that but only a quick mention about the struggling JJ who also makes an error in the field. Funny how people perceive things.
  16. Ok this is the problem with this comment and how people just hate on the same guy whether it is their fault or not. Billy is great in the field so I am not sure why you would be surprised by a good play ever with him.
  17. Well it wasnt an easy play and the ball was hit a little harder than 'rolling' and that is why you don't assume the double play. He happened to bobble the ball and if Gallardo didnt walk to bases loaded the point is moot. People like to blame different players at different points of the year for whatever happens. Billy has been kicked enough. Get over it. We need to pitch better.
  18. Hall plays because he is good in the field and that is all. That was a tough play if that is why you are asking. He isnt the one that walked the bases loaded.
  19. I'm sorry but saying JJ has a good approach at the plate is just wrong. He may have hit some balls hard and has tricked you into thinking he is just not getting the hits but he strikes out and look awful at the plate like the others. And he does not situational hit at all. He swings hard and wherever the ball goes. He is not the guy who thinks about moving runners or anything like that. His approach is to hit the ball wherever it may happen to go. And JJ has not hit the ball that well. No! Because outfielders have made a couple sliding catches means that he has hit the ball hard? I said I will give him 5-7 hits from all this hard hitting he has been doing I guess. That will not help his stats any. That is my point and how bad he has been. Those hits will not help.
  20. Just reading some of the recent replies sums up how JJ is looked at. Saying he has hit the ball hard and blah blah and its more than just stats. I said earlier that you could give him 5 more hits or whatever from all these times he is hitting the ball hard. Fine but other than those few he has been pretty bad. Not sure what at bats you are watching but he has not looked good. And saying look beyond the stats? What else does he do? Plays good defense which is expected from a shortstop. Steals bases? Moves runners over? He is really a non factor. Weeks at least got on base, could steal and score some runs when he was hitting 230 last year. JJ is basically doing nothing at all and all we get is these excuses that Hall and Hart are much worse. How is that? I dont see it. All of them can look pretty bad at the plate and I dont know how you would make anyone of them look good. Hart can at least run a little bit so I guess he would get an edge over the three.
  21. It is because he is JJ and people like him. When Hall, Hart, or Weeks struggle people wanted him gone and it was a topic in the blogs and all over this board. I dont want to hear JJ has been hitting that ball hard. I watch every game and I am surprised when he gets a hit. But now that there have been a couple guys made sliding catches on him, things are good. So his average would be ten points higher with a few more hits. Yipee. Get over the JJ love. Many of his at bats are simply horrible and he needs to pick it up. I know many of the brewers are not hitting but you never really hear much about JJ. Or at least to the level of many of the others.
  22. I may be one of the few but I think JJ is highly overrated in the brewer community. He goes through long stetches of unproductive outs even. He does have his hot streaks but when he is bad, he is really bad. His inconsistent play doesnt get talked about because he is loved and I dont get it. Some players can at least be productive with moving runners over, sac flys and such, but when JJ doesnt hit, he basically does nothing at all. I may be the only one but I just don't see why he is looked at as this untouchable player when he goes through these long stetches every year and more than one of them. Last year was a bit of the same except for that run where he was simply unconcious and could do no wrong.
  23. So now this is really getting good. Hall has been ripped non stop but now we wanted him to lead off the 9th? We need to make up our minds. Do we want him to hit or not? I would rather have Casey bat there than Billy. When we lose, all the things just come out of the woodwork. We lost a game, move on.
  24. I dont get the questioning of Villy at all. Just because it didnt work but he has been awesome. There is not a perfect pitcher out there so it happens sometimes. But not bunting does make me upset.
