  1. His on base for April, July and August has been well over .300. Amazing that with his approach he has raised it from .250 on May 31 to .281 now
  2. Well, Betancourt doesn't stink against this pitcher. Single and double. Obviously, was the correct move so far. Its simply another example of when using career stats is overreaching.
  3. Having been on a major league club somewhere for the past 4 years, I'm sure that he was looking for something better than AAA. WIth JD Drew out, I'm sure he is looking at an outside chance at being a backup outfielder for the Red Sox. There was no good reason to stay with the Brewers since acquiring Hairston, and the possibility of a late season Gomez returning.
  4. Hairston is not a wizard with the glove at SS either, and he stinks against Myers. Betancourt is just about the same with the bat against righties than lefties. He's hit in 15 of his past 16 games, on another 8 game hitting streak, and raised his OBP about 20 points. There's not much more you can ask of him, or even chance taking him out of the lineup.
  5. Hairston could also have gone 0 for 4, with 0 RBI. Thats the other side of the coin. Plus he only has a history of hitting .111 lifetime against Myers. Not the line I'm looking for.
  6. Way too much is made of the "need" to upgrade the infield. Melvin didn't need to, but he has yet another utility guy who can play the infield. There is no further move to make. Yuni is hot, and frankly, his defense was tolerable today. We have 4 options for 3rd base which is way more than anyone can ask for.
  7. This addition looks to be a critical blow to Taylor Green campaigners.
  8. Considering all of Nashville (some of who are batting over .300 in AAA) is a collective 31 for 201 at the major league level this year (.154), I can see how Melvin would not be very confident with bringing Green up at this point. I guess there's a long shot that he's some unexpected diamond in the rough, but not likely. The only guy who was good was Kottaras, and he batted 12 points better than Green when he left, and is only batting .217 on the Brewers.
  9. Maybe by selling him for $1, they can try to write off the maximum depreciation for the sale.
  10. Hopefully, Pence's .200 hitting since the break continues. 4 big games in September against Philly could be critical.
  11. The Brewers shouldn't have to explain their decisions or lack of decisions on Green or anybody in the minors. When the answer is "No, we are not bringing him up", they shouldn't have to explain every reason. In any event, why explain reasons for a decision when obviously the questioners aren't receptive to the answer anyway.
  12. The unconfirmed reports by Jim Bowden a few days ago said that the Brewers were close to acquiring Carroll. Apparently the sides have not been able to agree on the prospects to be sent over to the Dodgers and no deal appears close at this time. Unless Melvin is going to change his tune and throw in some value, it doesn't look all that promising. I doubt PTBNL will work this time.
  13. I'm pretty sure Melvin has Yuni's stats right in front of him April: .273/.309/.375/.684 May: .178/.200/.289/.489 June: .284/.281/.409/.690 July: .299/.324/.448/.772 He'll probably conclude, outside of May, Yuni has been better than his career stats.
  14. To be fair, Yuni seems to be looking at a few more pitches than he usually does in the last few games, and even getting a couple of walks. We'll see if this latest 11 for 26 stretch, 7 game hitting streak, and the .299/.324 for the month continues. So far, so good. We can't possibly see an upgrade during his hottest stretch of the season.
  15. http://cdn2.sbnation.com/imported_assets/764556/2011-July-23-0-10-0_medium.jpg Judge for yourself. I see no pinky extended or thumb extended. Looks like the bird to me, right after the hook em horns.
  16. If batting .150 or below is a "wash", like just about every other AAA guy who has come up this year, I'd skip that shower.
  17. Didn't Betancourt get a walk just 3 days ago as well? Doesn't seem so rare these days. I guess all of the hits are making us forget.
  18. I find it hard to believe that every player is doomed to his previously held stats for the year, and those projections based on all that averaged data. The only good players in the end would be the ones who put up good numbers in April and May.
  19. Well, Green's .947 fielding percentage is helping his cause much. Even Ryan Braun's was .954 in the minors at 3rd base, and it translated a lot worse in the majors.
  20. Brewers are fine in the playoffs with Casey and Yuni, especially if they hit the way they have been hitting for the past 2 weeks. Casey: .290/.343/.290/.643 Yuni: .290/.313./.548/.861 I'd go with RR, who pretty much said there is no desperate need to make moves with these guys.
  21. Yuni was on a tear. 2 home runs on two different pitchers. Looks like he may just keep his job after all. Scrap the SS search now. There are just too many haters calling this a fluke. For god sakes, what does the poor guy have to do?
  22. Pretty sure bringing up Green is just a wasted option on a guy with only 85 AAA games under his belt. The track record for just about everyone who has come up this year has not been very good. Even Gamel was tearing it up in AAA, and just couldn't get it together at the plate while he was here. For a most of what we have, the step between AAA and the majors is a lot higher than they are prepared for. Considering Boggs and Gamel, I can only take AAA numbers with a grain of salt. I don't see Green possibly being any more of an upside than Josh Wilson. If it were September, sure you could call him up, but throwing him in after the all-star break on a team still in contention is not the way to break him in.
  23. The problem is that the Pirates schedule has been outrageously easy so far. How does a team manage to get a strength of schedule of .485 at this point in the season? 12 games against Houston, and 9 against Chicago, and 8 against Washington will do that. Then, for them Cincy tends to be a cupcake. Pittsburgh hasn't had a tough series all month long.
  24. Yuni's been the starter all year. You can't blame a manager for wanting his starter to get things together, rather than lowering the axe all at once. Frankly, the difference between the two isn't all that much, and platooning isn't a terrible thing. It only bothers people who have an intense hatred for Yuni and exaggerate about how bad he is.
