  1. Happy Bob day everyone. If you happen to be driving by Jefferson WI give a peace sign.
  2. That sums it up pretty well. The union is interested in big numbers but not the whole group. I think part of that is player agents. The agents get bigger paychecks when the players get larger contracts. That creates an incentive for them to get larger contracts for individuals yet their only power over the negotiations is to convince their clients larger individual contracts are best for the union as a whole.
  3. I have a brother who has terminal cancer so they threw a birthday party for him on Saturday. That mayor of Jefferson showed up gave Bob a plaque and declared Monday- Bob's actual birthday- Bob day in town. Bob is special needs and never really got a lot of attention so the gesture is even more significant. Big time salute to the kindness shown him.
  4. I had two cars die, one with with only 63,000 miles on it and the warranty was for 60,000 and my oven puked out. All in the last week. On the good news side my brothers cancer prognosis went from 2-4 months to a year with chemo. All in all 2022 looked at 2021 and said hold my beer.
  5. Most teams that need a GM are probably in a rebuild. Otherwise the old GM would probably still be there. Not necessarily...and even then there is a difference between the end of a rebuild with lots of assets/payroll space and the start of a rebuild with all kinds of problems with little assets. What team gets rid of a GM without having made enough mistakes to cause the team to need major changes? You don't fire a GM because the team is a player or so away from being competitive. I'm not sure I can think of one that left the majority of the rebuild to one GM only to get another one a year or so away from being competitive. Managers yes. GM's not so much.
  6. That may be the best description of Ace Ventura ever.
  7. Most teams that need a GM are probably in a rebuild. Otherwise the old GM would probably still be there.
  8. I have two questions. 1- Is there a meat based menthol? 2- Is the vegan menthol smoking demographic really large enough to pander to?
  9. The new team rankings for NCAA wrestling came out. As per usual the Big Ten dominates with ten teams in the top twenty five and seven in the top 10 (including Wisconsin at number nine.) The top three all come from the Big Ten. That a Big Ten team will become national champions isn't even a question at this point. The only remaining debate worth having is what's the highest place a team not from the Big Ten will take?
  10. I had to wear one of those Jason style hockey masks for wrestling after I broke my nose. The peripheral vision is probably not up to driving standards.
  11. I saw equestrian gate and black mustang had his turn signal on and thought when did horses get turn signals.
  12. This will be the first year I didn't a minute of football.
  13. Did he coach football in Jacksonville before he got the job at your son's school?
  14. Pretty sure someone who goes to a game, buys gear, food and beverages at the game bring in more revenue for the team than the person sitting at home or in a bar watching it.
  15. Because fans are the customer. Example, if you were making widgets and your factory stopped making them because of a labor impasse. Shouldn't mgmt and labor keep in mind that ABC Company that buys all of their widgets may start buying some widgets from a competitor if the impasse lasts too long? At least smart people would. Heck, ABC Company may end up switching to the pro bowler tour or something. The problem is baseball doesn't have to worry about competitors because they are exempted from antitrust laws. Every other company has to worry both about losing market share to competitors and customers finding other products. Baseball just has to worry about the latter.
  16. I think it is but according to the officer the biggest offense was cashing the check so either both are federal crimes or it isn't more serious than a state crime.
  17. The only way a new league could make it is if the players started one IMHO. If they did I think it could not only survive but overtake MLB.
  18. Don't know that part. The dude said he forged and cashed it but didn't steal it. It might be some time for that part to come out.
  19. I can see it now. The star slugger hits a walk off home run then in the post game interview he says something to the effect of "the Pennzoil bat was performing well all day so I thought lets get this game over with. After I hit it I just started jogging in my Bank One shoes. I'll tell you what, when I touched the Hartford insurance home plate I was so excited I almost peed my Brooks Brothers pants."
  20. Got to give hte Appleton PD and Fox credit union a big thank you. On January 2nd my wife wrote a check for a little under a $1000 for some work a person did for us then sent it in the mail. He came in on Sunday to ask if we sent it yet. I thought that was strange so I checked with the bank and it was cashed. Used the interweb to see the cancelled check and it was cashed with a different name on it. Pretty obviously forged. We called the bank and left a message and the police to report it. The officer showed up at 8:30 Monday morning. The bank called us at 9 am and let us know the officer was there and they were working on it. Dude was totally on point. He knew the teller, which location it was at, who cashed it and when it was cashed. By 10ish they had the video evidence of him cashing the check and found out he was on probation and a warrant was out for his arrest. By about 11 he was in jail. We were amazed at how fast it happened but the officer said it wasn't him. Dude had been arrested on Saturday for some unrelated thing. By noon he admitted to forging and cashing the check. By early afternoon we had our money back. So big thanks to APD and FCCU. You all are a credit to your professions. What I don't get is how someone can be so stupid as to think they can get away with forging their real name and cashing the check in person. Not even the drive through but in the bank lobby. Does he not understand video surveillance? And why risk incarceration for a grand? It's not chump change but it isn't life altering money. Guess that was why he was on probation to begin with.
  21. Just read this piece that gives a general overview of what both sides have proposed in the lead up to the talks starting this week. https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb-union-to-meet-thursday-hold-first-substantive-negotiations-since-lockout-began-171356237.html
  22. After my dad told me he had to walk to school uphill both ways I asked my dad how that happened. He said they went uphill in the morning and by the afternoon the Earth rotated enough to make the walk home uphill too. I asked why that doesn't work now and he said science was different back then. Hard to argue with that.

  24. Yes, but was she wearing a onesie at the time? Yes but she popped two buttons on it after all the chocolate. I should have noted this has been a running joke and the neighbor knows about it. So, not complaining about it or anything. It was just really funny to me all the way around.
  25. I snow blow for a few of our neighbors. They always get us something but it always ends up being something for my wife yet it's me who does the work, bought the equipment, the maintenance and gas. Recently one neighbor bought her favorite chocolates from the Wilmars. She sat outside and ate them while watching me snow blow yesterday.
