  1. Brooks Conrad might have value when used properly, but unfortunately his sample is too small to know for sure..... He has a career .893 MLB OPS vs LHP's but that is in just 28 plate appearances. In 94 plate appearances he has a .206 batting average and a .659 OPS vs MLB RHP's .... Is there any place that will show his minor league batting splits? (Baseball Reference doesn't) If those MLB splits continue, what good is it that he can switch hit if he hits like Johnny Estrada vs RHP's?!.... Conrad's AAA stats in 4 different years don't come anywhere close to the .336/.413/.997 numbers that Green put up in AAA last season I completely agree that Green should be on the MLB roster. Its not as if Aram is going to play 162 games, and Weeks shouldn't either. Starting Conrad as a LHB makes no sense when you give one of those 2 a rest.... in those 35 or so games, that should be Green starting, not Conrad
  2. It was entertaining. Loved the Gamel interview. My kid and I were laughing at how much Wolf talks. His words per minute factor has gotta be up near the Jeff Cirillo rarified air level....
  3. Weeks will be 32 years old when the Brewers have a team option on him in 2015. The next 3 seasons will tell us a lot about his durability and value. Many still see Weeks as a 30-35 HR a season guy *if* he can stay healthy, and that has always been the "if". Weeks had a .366 OBP as a 21 year old in AA ball in 2004. Scooter turns 22 this season and he'll likely be in AA ball this year, so we'll see.... a 32 year old Rickie Weeks who hits 35 bombs a season could certainly be moved to 1B or RF in 2015 if Scooter ends up being a great prospect....
  4. Caleb Gindl and his .390 OBP in AAA as a 22 year old will be ready to replace Hart by 2013. My concern is that the franchise will undervalue Gindl and let him get away ala Nelson Cruz Gennett should be ready closer to 2015, which is good because that is the year Weeks likely becomes a free agent Agree on re-signing Greinke, and letting K-Rod, Wolf & Marcum walk after this season. If for some unlikely reason we are out of it at the 2012 trade deadline we could get quite a haul of young talent for Hart, Marcum, Wolf & K-Rod, but I expect we'll be right in the playoff hunt at that time... What this franchise really needs is a young SS to develop, either through the draft or trade.... I don't think the Brewers see Taylor Green as more than a utility guy. I'm not sure if that is an accurate assessment or not but I think that is how they see him.... I really expect Mat Gamel to be a very solid 25 HR, 90 RBI, .850 OPS 1st basemen for the Brewers for the next 4-5 years
  5. ...And the Brewers win... Thank you, hawing, I wouldn't have known that it was a free game to watch on MLB.com if I hadn't have checked this thread The Brewers looked pretty good day. Wolf pitched pretty well and Braun had some good at-bats despite not getting a hit. He hit a scorching line drive right at the left-fielder, so it looks like he's seeing the ball well...
  6. Kentrail Davis with a rocket launched HR to right. He got all of that one
  7. Gonzalez looked really smooth in the field today. To say he's a better fielder than Yuni is like saying that Ice is colder that boiling water
  8. Great to see Aoki putting together some solid at-bats. 3 for 3 with a triple and 3 RBI's. That was one helluva bunt by Izturis on the suicide squeeze. That pitch was at head level and Cesar still got the bunt down
  9. I know it is just a spring training lineup, but should I start to be scared that Alex Gonzalez has been hitting 5th? Roenicke wouldn't actually hit Gonzalez anywhere but 7th or 8th, right?
  10. Good article here about Andrelton Simmons including a comparison to Alcides Escobar http://seedlingstostars.com/2012/03/18/andrelton-simmons-to-the-big-leagues-lets-slow-down-a-bit/
  11. Atlanta does have a good farm system but for whatever reasons they haven't gotten as far in the post-season as the Brewers in the last 3-4 years... they do seem like a logical trade partner I like Tyler Pastornicky, he's got potential. I'd like him even more if he got on-base even more but a .345 career minor league OBP ain't bad at all. He hit .314 last season between AA & AAA. It'll be interesting to see how he develops
  12. Gamel will likely be vastly better than Fielder at 1B
  13. This is a great article, thank you for it... I do think Caleb Gindl is a Top 5 prospect and I predict he'll be the best of the bunch by the end of their collective careers. A .390 OBP (.862 OPS) as a 22 year old in AAA is very impressive I disagree a little on Peralta, who I think projects to be only a little better than Narveson, but maybe I just haven't seen him at his best yet. Jungman & Bradley look to be legit great prospects.
  14. Brad Nelson is still hanging in there. He hit 24 HR's and put up a .861 OPS in AAA last year in the Rangers organization. Yes I know he'll be 29 this season
  15. Rogers sure made Torii Hunter look silly in one at-bat on Saturday. As everyone has said, he's got the talent, the question is whether he can stay healthy. It is in the Brewers best interests for 2013 to keep Peralta, Rogers, Fiers, Rivas, Scarpetta and others stretched out and evaluated as starters, because it is likely that at least 2 of Marcum, Wolf & Greinke will be gone next season.
  16. Conrad's mechanics are all messed up, he doesn't keep his head down when he swings. Hopefully he'll work out the kinks before opening day because I do think he'll be on the Opening Day roster and be the #1 RH bat off the bench.
  17. Fiers has real talent. When I watched him in the Angels game it looked like his delivery wasn't quite the same on his fastball as his change-up. He's got some potential with a little more seasoning under his belt.
  18. Aoki had a good at-bat in the Angels game, worked the count to 3-2 after fouling of a 0-1 bunt attempt, fouled off a few and then got a solid single up the middle on a tough pitch. He has such a bizarre swing, with his back almost turned to the pitcher, the front leg kicking up as high as the knee of his back leg and then it looks like he's almost falling backwards as he swings.... I really hope he becomes a solid player. I remain convinced that he'd be better off starting the season playing every day in AAA
  19. I personally would value Taylor Green much higher than Andino, despite Andino having proven he can hit MLB pitching. What I'm saying is that Baltimore is likely not very inclined to move Andino
  20. Ha! Thanks. I was wondering why that link didn't make sense. Yes it really needs to be someone who can play SS, that is the key especially with Gonzalez likely needing days off here and there. The Brewers have Taylor Green in case Weeks goes down yet again (although Melvin & Roenicke might get panic stricken about giving lots of starts to such a young player...)
  21. http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/orioles/blog/bal-orioles-infielder-robert-andino-eager-to-play-any-role-necessary-20120220,0,1336339.story That is a good article about Andino and explains why he is likely not available as he is a real part of the Orioles plans. Melvin would probably need to overpay to get him. Andino has a chance to start at 2B for Baltimore if Brian Roberts' concussion syndromes continue. And Andino is under team control through 2015. It might take Taylor Green or Manny Parra to get him, and that is even if Baltimore wants to trade him....
  22. Elliot Johnson, Chris Nelson, Eric Young Jr., Emmanuel Burriss, Luis Valbuena, Donnie Murphy, and Brent Lillibridge are all just completely brutal at getting on base. AAAA talent at best and that is being generous. (Young Jr at least was a legit MLB player but he's 39-40 years old now and cannot play SS) Miles at least has a .320 on-base percentage in his career. But he's 35 and has only played a handful of games at SS in the last 3 years Andino has actually shown an improvement at the plate, is only 27 years old and makes the most sense (.327 OBP in 2011)
  23. It is Doug Melvin we're talking about. I expect to see Miguel Tejada and his .596 OPS in 2011 (.692 OPS in 2010) given a $1 million contract shortly. Roenicke & Melvin will talk about about his veteran grittiness and tout the value of having a former MVP come off the bench. Aaron Miles fits the Melvin mode as well. Miles can actually get on base though, so they might pass on him for Felipe Lopez
  24. Vs Right-Handed Pitching: 1. Hart RF 2. Morgan CF 3. MVP! LF 4. Ramirez 3B 5. Weeks 2B 6. Gamel 1B 7. Lucroy C 8. Gonzalez SS Vs Left-Handed Pitching 1. Hart RF 2. Lucroy C 3. MVP! LF 4. Ramirez 3B 5. Weeks 2B 6. Gamel 1B 7. Gomez CF 8. Gonzalez SS If Hart is injured/can't start season, I replace Hart with Caleb Gindl and start him vs RHP, then my lineup would look like this: 1. Morgan CF 2. Lucroy C 3. MVP! LF 4. Ramirez 3B 5. Weeks 2B 6. Gamel 1B 7. Gindl RF 8. Gonzalez SS
