  1. You have to translate Buster Olney : what he appears to be saying is "because Greinke might not be interested in being a Yankee or a Red Sox, I am now going to attempt to spread damaging rumors about him. How dare he ignore the glorious East Coast?"
  2. Almost anything is better than the cartoonish Native American logo, in my opinion
  3. Holy small sample Batman! Let's see how this plays out over the course of a season.
  4. Gonzalez is Yuni with a plus glove. I can live with that. But he should be hitting 8th
  5. I'm thinking that Melvin and Roenicke really love having K-Rod in the 8th inning all year and Boston would need to really overpay to get K-Rod, more than just a SS prospect Not sure what Boston was thinking giving all that $$$ to Bailey, he's been injury prone much of his career
  6. I like Ron Roenicke, mostly because the players like him and play hard for him.
  7. Yep, that is true... I don't like jerking Gamel around though. Would RR ever double-switch out Hart, Ramirez or Weeks in the 5th or 6th inning? Of course not, so he shouldn't do that to Gamel either
  8. Prince Fielder really is generally a pretty awful defensive player. It isn't just the lack of range and lack of a steady glove and lack of height at 1B, but in addition to all of that it is the completely bone-headed mistakes he makes about once every 10 games or so.... Gamel has a great glove, he's scooped a few already. The problem with Gamel at 3B was his arm, not his glove. Our outfield defense when Gomez is out is below average but those bats are essential
  9. Heard that and yes, I believe he did intend that as a shot at Wolf.... (and a defense of Lucroy)
  10. And if we come back and have a tie game in the 7th, 8th or 9th inning, the #6 spot which is now the pitchers spot will be covered by Gomez, Izturis or Lucroy? Real nice And as I write this Ishikawa has an at-bat that looked eerily similar to a pitcher's at-bat.... hmmmm
  11. Did RR seriously just double-switch Gamel out with Ishikawa? You gotta be kiddin' me
  12. Wolf is now up to 97 pitches with just 1 out in the 5th. This is almost for sure his last inning. A Kameron "Lurch" Loe sighting is imminent
  13. Freese coming up with 2 men on and no outs. This could get ugly real quick
  14. He looks like Wolf. Nibbling at the corners. Lot of guys on base. Gets out of jams for the most part. He does like his catcher though, that is a big plus Wolf is a gamer and a fighter and a hard-worker. Ned Yost would love him
  15. By the way --- obviously there were better power hitting LHB corner outfielders that those 2 (Ruth, Musial, Williams etc). The debate discussion was that if Jackson & McCovey were the 2 available and you needed to take one, which would you take? My cousin who is a Giants fan likes to point out that McCovey has a better post-season BA (.310 to .278) and post-season OBP (.410 to .358) and post-season OPS (1.101 to .885) than "Mr October" and that it is not McCovey's fault that he only played in 8 post-season games in his career as opposed to Jackson's 77 post-season games and 4 rings
  16. why exactly is Kottaras hitting after Gonzalez? Is that part of Ron Roenicke's contract that all Catchers must hit 8th?
  17. Have a little debate going on here among family members and I hoped some of you knowledgeable folks could chime in.... we were looking at comparing these 2 great power hitters and wondering which player you would prefer if you were assembling a team of Hall of Famers and you needed a power hitting LHB corner outfielder, who would you take between McCovey & Jackson? The first instinct for a lot of people is to say Jackson right away based on his World Series highlights and he hit more HR's (563 to 521). Neither were exactly Gold Glove caliber defenders but in general in their prime Jackson was a better defensive player and McCovey was really more of a 1B than an OF, but he did play OF, too, thus this discussion/debate based on a hypothetical assembling of a team. Jackson struck out a lot more. In fact I believe Reggie has the MLB all-time SO record. McCovey got on-base more too (career .375 to .356), and McCovey had a better career OPS too (.889 to .846)..... and it is believed that McCovey's power numbers were hurt by a career playing in San Francisco The argument for Jackson when looking at the numbers is that Jackson had a steeper decline after age 35 and in his prime Jackson was better than McCovey in his prime, though I'm not sure that is cut and dried.... thoughts on this? thanks
  18. Who? The guy who is related to Cecil Fielder? Oh yeah, kinda forgot about him... he's a DH, right?
  19. It is nice when Kottaras starting happens to line up with a right hander throwing for the opponent
  20. It is the same starting lineup as yesterday other than the catcher switch: 2B Rickie Weeks CF Nyjer Morgan LF Ryan Braun 3B Aramis Ramirez RF Corey Hart 1B Mat Gamel SS Alex Gonzalez C George Kottaras LHP Randy Wolf
  21. Good game by the Brewers today. Greinke was lights out and Braun had some tremendous at-bats against Wainwright Corey (who needs Spring Training?) Hart was amazing today
  22. Agreed. But at least we have Gamel hitting 6th now where he should be. What a great and intriguing pitching matchup. One of the (many) things I love about baseball is that it is a 162 game season. The sting of a tough loss is lessened with the knowledge that another game is just a day or two away. Looking forward to this one
