  1. I will say this though: If Carlos Gomez was capable of playing SS, I'd rather have him at SS vs RHP than Izturis. So in essence if Gomez was capable of being a utility infielder as well as a platoon CF it would be a nice way to free up a roster spot for someone more valuable than Izturis. I recognize that is a big "if" though. Apparently Gomez does take infield ground-balls frequently at practices (of his own doing, he just loves the game, he also has begged Roenicke to let him pitch sometime, too)
  2. oops I apologize, I should have made it clear that I meant that in a humorous way. Should have put that in Blue Moving Gomez to SS is just way too "out of the box" and makes way too much sense for the Brewers' front office. Is that better?

  4. One of the things I would like to see as far as a different approach by Melvin is to put a higher priority on guys with OBP. A great example is Jamey Carroll. Now there is a guy with a career .356 OBP and instead we hire a SS with better D than Carroll in Alex Gonzalez with a .291 career OBP I know Carroll is 38 years old but he has started every game at SS for the Twins this season with flawless D and he has a .349 OBP this year Not to get all "Moneyball" on everyone but I truly believe that a strong OBP among several players makes a huge difference in a team's success. We still seem to be built with the "Earl Weaver" philosophy of strong pitching and a 3 run HR and at some point that is going to catch up with you, especially with Fielder out of the lineup
  5. Gindl has put up better numbers than Corey Hart at every level of the minor leagues at a younger age. Gindl is a OBP wonder, something we sorely lack... Gennett will never put up Weeks' power numbers but could duplicate his OBP numbers and play much better defense than Weeks
  6. I agree that they could always use more great hitting prospects but it is not like the farm is completely without hitting. Caleb Gindl & Scooter Gennett will likely be able to replace Weeks & Hart's production eventually, and Hunter Morris is a beast if he can learn to up his OBP. Yadiel Rivera has started out strong in A ball, he's more of a long range prospect but if he can continue to hit that will solve our future SS problems. Honestly I would keep drafting Pitchers in the first few rounds. You can never have too much pitching
  7. I think it is a cool tradition.... there are a lot of kids watching MLB, Jackie Robinson Day helps teach them about an incredible story of perseverance and achievement in the face of adversity
  8. "If we play like this we are going to get beat everywhere, we can't continue to play like this." - Ron Roenicke at the press conference after today's game
  9. Even though Aramis Ramirez has yet to do it in an MLB game, I have no doubt he could play 1B for a game or two also, but that would depend on having a capable back-up at 3B I mean seriously how can you have Cesar Izturis as your only 3B backup?! That makes no sense!
  10. I guess I don't understand the point of signing Aramis Ramirez & keeping K-Rod if your infield bench is Ishikawa & Izturis and you don't have LOOGY. It is like assembling a team with hopes and prayers and duct tape. Maybe Melvin's plan is just to hope for the best and then try to finish assembling the team at the trade deadline if we're still in it... My question is: how bad do things have to get before Taylor Green takes Ishikawa's place? Surely they aren't going to give Ishikawa until September like they gave McGehee last year?
  11. Since the score finished at 7-4 can we officially say that defense cost us the game?
  12. Ishikawa is a perplexing decision to say the least. I know that Roenicke loved Kotsay and wanted a "Kotsay-like" player on his bench but Ishikawa is not Mark Kotsay. Brooks Conrad is injured anyways.... Izturis is just plain not an MLB hitter anymore We really should have overpaid for Jerry Hairston. Think of how much better this team would be right now with Hairston. That is one thing I don't get about Doug Melvin: in a "we are going for it" year he doesn't add the extra few millions for a great bench
  13. I actually started following the Sounds game instead. Go Nashville! How is Peralta doing?
  14. Matt Kemp is off to an incredible start: 5 HR's, 15 RBI's and batting .487 with a 1.459 OPS in 9 games
  15. it is never good when you start an inning walking the pitcher
  16. Taylor Green is off to a very slow start in Nashville, hitting .194 (a .324 OBP though) and a .615 OPS ... obviously that is a very small sample and of course he can't play SS Yadiel Rivera is off to a great start in Single A ball, hitting over .300 , again a small sample and he's at least 2 years away The Brewers really need a backup infielder who can play SS ASAP
  17. I think it is easy to forget that the Braves are as talented as any team in the NL. Without that epic, weird collapse last year theycould have gone deep into the post-season
  18. It is interesting following Yadiel Rivera. If he ends up being able to hit that would sure help the Brewers future
  19. I would not trade one of the top 5 RF's in MLB to our division rivals. Greinke is very good, but he's not an ace. He's a 3.80 ERA, 1.200 WHIP, 114 ERA+ guy. You don't rebuild just because you lose Greinke. I bet Peralta can put up a 3.80 ERA, 114 ERA+ season in 2013, certainly by 2014 (if not better). I'd let Marcum walk too. Bring Wolf back for another year and put Peralta in the starting lineup for 2013 along with Estrada. You'd be looking at maybe 3 more losses over the course of a 162 game season. Seriously, check out the WAR value of these players. The difference between Marcum and Estrada is about 3 wins (based on last year's WAR, and that is betting on Marcum staying healthy!) We invested a lot of draft capital in pitching, they'll be ready to help us in 2013 and 2014
  20. Thanks! But seriously, Braun has hit .340 vs LHP so far in his career
  21. Opening Day is really "Casual Fan" day in any town. Atlanta fans are right on up there with my least favorite fans, in large part because of the tomahawk chop. Yes, I know I live in a state where people wear cheese on their heads.
  22. The odds are better with the infield in and 1 out, men on 2nd & 3rd? No force play anywhere?
