  1. Final: Palm Beach (Cardinals) 1, Brevard County 4 Three-run first propels 'Tees to win over Cards Goforth hurls seven strong innings in 4-1 victory over Palm Beach By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees VIERA, Fla. - Strong pitching from starter David Goforth and an offensive outburst in the first inning sent the Brevard County Manatees to a 4-1 win over the visiting Palm Beach Cardinals on Monday night at Space Coast Stadium. Each of the first four batters in the first inning reached base for the Manatees (23-20), including a leadoff single for T.J. Mittelstaedt, which was then followed by an RBI double to center for Greg Hopkins. Hopkins was then driven in by Nick Ramirez as Ramirez singled to right. Three batters later, Yadiel Rivera was able to bring Ramirez across to make it 3-0 in the opening frame. That was all the help that Goforth (4-4, 2.79) would need, as the only run he allowed to the Cardinals (17-26) came in the third inning. Juan Castillo led off with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on Colin Walsh's single to left, though Walsh was thrown out trying to stretch to end the inning. Ramirez added an extra insurance run as he led off the third with his seventh home run of the season. Ramirez, Cody Hawn and Chadwin Stang each had a pair of hits. Goforth earned the win for his third straight start and has a 0.86 ERA since May 9 with just two runs allowed in three consecutive outings of seven innings. On Monday, he scattered five hits and walked three, while also sitting a trio down on strikes. Out of the bullpen, Andre Lamontagne threw a perfect eighth with two strikeouts to set the table for Tommy Toledo's third save of the season. Game two of the series will be on Tuesday with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. The starting pitching match-up will feature Brooks Hall (2-3, 2.82) for the Manatees and lefty Kyle Hald (1-3, 6.57) for the Cardinals. Brevard County Box Score David Goforth with another fine pitching performance. That's three solid starts in a row for him and he's only given up two earned runs over his last 21 innings. The bullpen continued with their great work as well, getting a scoreless inning from Andre Lamontagne and a scoreless ninth from Tommy Toledo to earn his third save. Nick Ramirez led the offense with a 2 for 3 night. He belted his team leading 7th home run and also drew a walk. Cody Hawn also went 2 for 3 with a walk. In fact, the top five hitters in the BC lineup each drew a walk. Chadwin Stang was 2 for 4 but did get caught stealing once. Greg Hopkins doubled and Cameron Garfield and Yadiel Rivera each singled for the other Manatees hits. Lance Roenicke added an outfield assist. Brevard County Play-By-Play The Manatees got three in the first and that's all Goforth needed. Brevard County Bottom of the 1st T. J. Mittelstaedt walks. 2. Final: Brevard County 1, Dunedin (Blue Jays) 3 Brevard falls 3-1 in series finale at Dunedin By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees DUNEDIN, Fla. - Yet another battle of quality starting pitchers took place on Sunday afternoon at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium, but unfortunately the Brevard County Manatees were on the short end of the battle as they fell 3-1 to the Dunedin Blue Jays. Dunedin starting pitcher Scott Copeland turned out eight innings of three-hit ball, notching seven strikeouts with only one walk for the win. His streak of 21 consecutive batters retired, including 13 from his last start, came to an end when Chadwin Stang singled with two outs in the third inning. One of the three hits that he allowed was a T.J. Mittelstaedt home run to lead off the sixth inning and give the Manatees (22-20) a 1-0 lead. The homer accounted for the only run Brevard County would score against either Copeland or John Anderson, who came on for a perfect ninth inning and earned a save in his first outing of the year. Dunedin (24-16) answered back with three runs in the bottom half of the sixth to ensure themselves a three-game cushion over the Manatees in the FSL North standings. Brevard County starting pitcher Drew Gagnon (3-4, 5.40) had faced just three batters over the minimum through the first five innings, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the sixth. He opened the inning by hitting Jon Berti with a curveball, then allowed a single and a walk to load the bases. Jon Talley's sacrifice fly enabled Berti to score and tie the contest. A Marcus Knecht single gave Dunedin a 2-1 lead and spelled the end of Gagnon's start, after he allowed four hits and two walks with five strikeouts in 5.1 innings. Gagnon was charged with his third and final run when a ground ball gave Andy Burns enough time to get home from third base. Matt Miller, the first reliever out of the bullpen, finished the sixth with the groundout and a strikeout and then only allowed a walk in the seventh. After recently being activated from the disabled list, Tyler Cravy also took the mound for the first time since April 27 and pitched a perfect eighth with one strikeout. The Manatees will return home to Space Coast Stadium to open a seven-game home stand on Monday at 6:35 p.m., with the first of four games against the Palm Beach Cardinals (17-25). Brevard's David Goforth (3-4, 3.05) will take the mound looking for third straight win. He has allowed just one earned run in his last two starts, over a span of 14 innings of work. Travis Miller (0-6, 4.71) will take the hill for Palm Beach as he will be looking for his first win of the year. Miller has not thrown more than five innings in any of his seven starts this season and has a 6.39 ERA in three May starts. Brevard County Box Score Drew Gagnon pitched well for the first five innings. He ran in to a little bit of trouble in the sixth, but still only allowed four hits. Matt Miller and Tyler Cravy combined for 2.2 innings of scoreless relief. T.J. Mittelstaedt's second home run of the season turned out to be the only run of the game for the Manatees. Rafael Neda and Chadwin Stang each singled for the only other BC hits. Stang stole his 11th base of the year. Greg Hopkins went 2 for 4 and scored a pair of runs. T.J. Mittelstaedt was on base three times with a double and two walks. Cody Hawn singled, walked and stole a base. Yadiel Rivera singled and was hit by a pitch. Yadi's had a hit in four straight now and 6 of his last 7. Jed Bradley only went 3.2 innings. He only gave up two runs on four hits but got lifted with an injury. I didn't get to listen to the game so I don't know what the injury was exactly, but doesn't sound too serious. Chad Pierce pitched 3.1 scoreless innings to get the win. He did walk five, but didn't allow a hit. Tommy Toledo inherited a pair of baserunners in the ninth but stranded them both as he retired all three batters he faced to earn the save. 4. Final: Brevard County 0, Dunedin (Blue Jays) 1 Suter fans 11, but 'Tees two-hit in Dunedin By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees DUNEDIN, Fla. - A career-high 11 strikeouts for starting pitcher Brent Suter wasn't enough as a mammoth homer by Andy Burns provided the lone run of the game in the Brevard County Manatees' 1-0 loss to the Dunedin Blue Jays on Friday night at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium. Suter (2-2, 3.65) scattered five hits besides the fourth inning home run and walked only one batter, but he took the hard-luck loss as Brevard (21-19) recorded just two singles behind him. Austin Bibens-Dirkx was brought down to Dunedin (23-15) from Double-A New Hampshire earlier in the day and made the start, and he dominated the Manatees to the tune of his own career high ten strikeouts. The 28-year-old took a perfect game into the fourth, until he issued a leadoff walk to T.J. Mittelstaedt and then kept the no-hitter going until Mittelstaedt came up with a two-out single in the sixth. Ajay Meyer surrendered one additional hit in the eighth inning to Yadiel Rivera before Blake McFarland shut the door in the ninth for his ninth save of the season. Brevard County and Dunedin will square off for game two of their three-game series on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Southpaw Jed Bradley (3-1, 3.69) is set to start for the Manatees and righty Aaron Sanchez (2-2, 2.95) will go for the Blue Jays. Brevard County Box Score Brent Suter pitched a great game for the Manatees, they just couldn't get him any support. He had 11 K's and walked just one. He scattered six hits over seven innings, and allowed just one run on a fourth inning homer. Andre Lamontagne pitched a scoreless eighth. T.J. Mittelstaedt was on base twice for BC with a single and a walk. He stole a base but also got caught trying to steal once. Mittelstaedt also recorded an outfield assist. Yadiel Rivera had the only other hit for Brevard. Greg Hopkins had a rough night, taking the old golden sombrero with four strikeouts in four at bats. The Manatees whiffed 13 times as a team. Brevard County Play-By-Play BC's best chance to push across a run came in the fourth inning when they had a runner on second base with nobody out, but back-to-back strikeouts kept them off the board. Brevard County Top of the 4th T. J. Mittelstaedt walks. With Gregory Hopkins batting, T. J. Mittelstaedt steals (1) 2nd base. Gregory Hopkins strikes out swinging. Nick Ramirez strikes out swinging. 5. Final: St. Lucie (Mets) 2, Brevard County 3 'Tees walk off with 3-2 win over Mets Mittelstaedt's double gives Brevard series win over St. Lucie By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees VIERA, Fla. - T.J. Mittelstaedt sent a two-out double to right field in the bottom of the ninth to plate Yadiel Rivera and give the Brevard County Manatees a 3-2 walk-off win over the St. Lucie Mets on Thursday night at Space Coast Stadium. An expected pitchers' duel between Brevard County's (21-18) Brooks Hall and St. Lucie's (23-15) Noah Syndergaard ended with neither starter taking a decision, though both hurlers were impressive on the mound. Hall (2-3, 2.82) left with one out in the sixth inning, a frame in which he allowed three of his seven hits - one of which was lined right off of his lower body - and his only walk. Two runs were able to score on Rylan Sandoval's single to center that chased Hall from the game. Syndergaard fanned a career high ten batters with no walks as he surrendered two runs on seven hits in his 6.2 innings of work. Behind him, Hamilton Bennett and Randy Fontanez fanned five more hitters to give the Manatees 15 strikeouts on the night, the most in a game for Brevard this season. The Manatees tied the game up in the sixth against Syndergaard as Mittelstaedt and Greg Hopkins led off the inning with back-to-back singles. After both moved up 90 feet each on a Nick Ramirez groundout, Cameron Garfield tripled to left to clear the bases and make it a 2-2 game. Rivera would lead off the bottom of the ninth with a single down the left field line off of Fontanez to put the winning run on base. Lance Roenicke would then move Rivera over to second with a sacrifice bunt. Two batters later with two strikes on him and with two outs, Mittelstaedt roped the offering from new reliever T.J. Chism to the right field wall for a double to give Brevard the series over St. Lucie. The win also improves Brevard County's record to a Florida State League best 11-3 in one-run games Jacob Barnes made his return to the mound for the first time since April 23, going three innings with four strikeouts to earn the win in relief. He allowed just one hit and lowered his ERA to 0.92 for the season. Brevard County travels to Dunedin (22-15) for a three-game weekend set, with a chance to take over first place in the FSL North division. Lefty Brent Suter (2-1, 4.58) is scheduled to take on the Blue Jays' Marco Grifantini (1-0, 3.00) with a 6:30 p.m. first pitch from Florida Auto Exchange Stadium. Brevard County Box Score Greg Hopkins had a nice night, going 3 for 4. T.J. Mittelstaedt was 2 for 5 out of the leadoff spot, including his walk-off double in the ninth. Cameron Garfield was 1 for 4 with a triple and two RBI. Chadwin Stang and Lance Roenicke each swiped a bag. Brooks Hall went 5.1 innings, allowing two runs. Jacob Barnes made his return to the Manatees and pitched three scoreless innings to earn the win. Brevard County Play-By-Play Brevard County Bottom of the 6th T. J. 6. Final: St. Lucie (Mets) 3, Brevard County 4 Manatees hang on for 4-3 win over Mets By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/assets/images/0/3/4/47679034/cuts/Rivera_5.15_5o8ihsfo_44xkx4zn.JPG Manatees shortstop Yadiel Rivera flips the ball from the ground to second baseman Greg Hopkins to begin a double play turned in the first inning of Brevard County's 4-3 win over the St. Lucie Mets on Wednesday night at Space Coast Stadium in Viera. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) VIERA, Fla. - A quintet of errors committed by the St. Lucie Mets led to a pair of unearned runs as the Brevard County Manatees held on for a 4-3 win on Wednesday night at Space Coast Stadium. Nick Ramirez singled and advanced to second on a throwing error to lead off the second inning before Ben McMahan also reached on a base hit when he blooped one in between Travis Taijeron, T.J. Rivera and Aderlin Rodriguez behind first base. A single off the bat of Cody Hawn loaded the bases and a Lance Roenicke put up a sacrifice fly to score Ramirez for the first run of the game. St. Lucie responded with a run in the next half inning to tie the game with a leadoff infield single, followed by a walk and then a single up the middle for Rivera. Brevard County (20-18) put two across in the fourth, including the first of the two unearned runs. McMahan notched his second of three hits and stole second base, which set him up to score on a double from Yadiel Rivera to the left field wall. Rivera then scored from second when Taijeron dropped a Lance Roenicke pop up in right field to make it a 3-1 game. In the fifth, Chadwin Stang's leadoff double nearly went to waste until T.J. Rivera booted a grounder to second that allowed Cameron Garfield to reach and Stang to score as he had been running on contact. The Mets (23-14) tightened it up again by plating a run in the sixth. Matt Reynolds reached on the lone Manatees' error of the evening by Brandon Macias and then came around to score on a double in the gap by Rodriguez to cut Brevard's lead to 4-2. In seven innings of work, 'Tees starter David Goforth (3-4, 3.05) yielded just four hits and three walks that allowed two runs - one earned - to go along with a career-high eight strikeouts. In his last two starts, Goforth has allowed just five hits and one earned run in 14 innings of work. He is also now 2-1 with a 1.88 ERA at Space Coast Stadium in 2013. St. Lucie threatened to at least tie the game, if not take the lead, against Seth Harvey in the ninth inning. Each of the first two batters, Rodriguez and Taijeron, reached on singles and were bunted over by Charley Thurber. Rodriguez then scored on a groundout, but the tying run would be left on third base as Harvey struck out Gilbert Gomez to earn his league-leading tenth save of the year. The four-game set will conclude on Thursday at Space Coast Stadium as the Manatees look to earn their first series win against an FSL South division opponent, having split against Bradenton and Charlotte. First pitch is at 6:35 p.m. Brevard County Box Score David Goforth had a strong outing. He allowed just one earned run over seven innings and struck out eight. Tommy Toledo pitched a scoreless 8th and Seth Harvey notched his 10th save. Ben McMahan continued his hot start to his 2013 season witha 3 for 3 night. He stole a base, but also got caught once. Nick Ramirez went 2 for 4 with a double. Lance Roenicke was 1 for 2 with a sac fly. The top 3 batters in the BC lineup were a combined 0 for 11. 9. Jeff mentioned during the broadcast that Morris had a head injury. He sustained the injury when he collided with Chris Dominguez in Friday night's game. I went back and watched the play on milb.tv (It's at the 2:07:30 mark for anyone that has a subscription) Morris fielded a squibber, Dillard got in his way and then when he got around him he had to kind of dive to try to tag Dominguez and collided with him. He was down for a minute but it looked like he was okay (of course I thought the same thing about Corey Koskie and that didn't turn out so well). Jeff said he was day-to-day so it didn't sound too serious. Hopefully just a case of better safe than sorry.
  10. Jed Bradley and the Manatees have been rained out
  11. Final: Tampa (Yankees) 7, Brevard County 3 Manatees sunk at home by Yankees By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees VIERA, Fla. - Following a 15-minute rain delay, both the Brevard County Manatees and the Tampa Yankees scored runs in the first inning. After that though, it was almost all Tampa as they left Space Coast Stadium on Friday night with a 7-3 victory over the Manatees. Brevard County (18-17) starting pitcher Brent Suter (2-1, 4.58) had seemed to settled in after allowing consecutive two-out doubles in the first inning as he did not allow another base runner until a one-out solo home run to Gary Sanchez in the fourth. It was the fifth inning that spelled the most trouble for the southpaw, as he surrendered four runs on three hits and a walk in that frame alone, running his totals to six runs on six hits and a walk in five innings of work. He took his first loss in Brevard County after winning each of his first two starts for the 'Tees. For Tampa (15-19), starting pitcher Scottie Allen did settle in nicely as he allowed just one run through six innings. He scattered four hits, walked only one and struck out two. Brevard County was able to jump on Manny Barreda in the bottom of the ninth, after the reliever had thrown 35 pitches in the eighth with 18 balls. Cody Hawn led off the final half inning with his sixth homer of the season and then Yadiel Rivera reached on an error and would score on a T.J. Mittelstaedt single. The Manatees though would leave runners on the corners to end the game. Hawn went 3-for-4 on the night, while Mittelstaedt had a pair of hits. The two teams will meet on Saturday at 6:35 p.m. for the rubber match of the three-game series. Lefty Jed Bradley (3-1, 3.04) will start for Brevard County, while Bryan Mitchell (2-3, 4.21) will toe the rubber for Tampa. Brevard County Box Score Cody Hawn went 3 for 4 and hit his sixth home run, tying him for the team lead with Cameron Garfield. His home run was the only extra base hit for Brevard County. T.J. Mittelstaedt was 2 for 5. Yadiel Rivera and Greg Hopkins were each on base twice with a single and a walk. Brent Suter got roughed up for the first time this year, allowing six runs in five innings. Tommy Toledo pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless relief. Chad Pierce tossed a 1-2-3 ninth. Brevard County Play-By-Play The fifth inning did in the Manatees tonight Tampa Top of the 5th Dan Fiorito singles on a fly ball to center fielder Chadwin Stang. Eduardo Sosa pops out to shortstop Yadiel Rivera. Jose Toussen doubles (4) on a fly ball to left fielder Lance Roenicke. Dan Fiorito to 3rd. Mason Williams walks. 12. Goforth, Manatees toss one-hitter Brewers prospect walks four during 'effectively wild' outing By Sam Dykstra / Special to MLB.com http://www.milb.com/assets/images/0/2/2/44209022/cuts/Goforth_4.7_5_1zbdmei6_wqw6pkub.JPG David Goforth was a seventh-round pick in 2011. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) David Goforth didn't think he had it from the very first inning Thursday night. He was coming off an outing last Friday in which he had allowed six earned runs on 11 hits in just 4 1/3 innings in Class A Advanced Brevard County's 11-4 loss to Dunedin and had already given up a one-out single to Ben Gamel and a walk to Robert Refsnyder to open the game six days later. The next six frames told a different story. Goforth allowed just the single over seven innings Thursday as the Manatees one-hit the Yankees in a 5-0 win. Former Major Leaguer Francisco Rodriguez and Daniel Meadows tossed perfect eighth and ninth frames respectively to close out the feat. Despite the results, the Brevard County starter maintained he wasn't at his best in the gem. "Honestly, I think it was a little bit of being effectively wild," said Goforth (2-4), who walked four and struck out one. "I didn't feel that I had my best stuff at all, and actually, it was the worst I've felt all year. I didn't feel like any of my pitches were going exactly where I wanted. It was just one of those nights when I had to grind it out and luckily the guys behind me made the plays too." The 24-year-old right-hander, who relies on a hard fastball that can touch in the mid-90s, especially struggled with his command in the opening innings. He hit Fu-Lin Kuo in the second and issued leadoff walks in the third and fourth. That led to some understandable frustration in between frames, despite the lack of hits. "I got a little upset after the third inning," he said. "I went into the dugout and then the clubhouse and tried my best to kind of regroup. I talked to my pitching coach Mark Dewey, and he tried to tell me some things to get back on the right track, like trying not to spin off the ball out of the windup. I never really felt comfortable out of the windup." Goforth allowed just one more baserunner -- Mason Williams on a walk in the sixth -- over his last three frames. The Mississippi native's outing continued a trend of alternating successes and struggles. He has accrued four scoreless starts so far for the Manatees, but each has been followed by an outing in which he's given up three earned runs or more. After the latest high-quality start, his ERA dropped to 3.41, almost a full run lower than its 4.28 mark to start the day. Though the numbers have swung back in the right direction, Goforth admitted he keeps his focus elsewhere. "I'm not a results guy," he said. "There was that outing last week, where I felt like I made the pitches I needed to but guys were just getting the bats on them. I'm more of a process guy. So on a night like tonight, I'm going to have to work on getting in sync with my windup and work on command because even though the scoreboard looked good, I didn't feel good at all. I want to do what I need to so I feel like I'm making that next step." Rodriguez struck out two in a scoreless eighth in his second appearance with the Manatees. The right-hander, who owned a 4.38 ERA in 78 appearances with Milwaukee last season, signed a Minor League deal with the Brewers on April 17 and is easing back into the season with a trip to the Florida State League. Meanwhile, Goforth and his teammates shall reap the benefits of the four-time All-Star's presence. "It's fantastic because you know he's going to lock it down for you," Goforth said. "When we scored a run in the seventh and you see K-Rod jogging in to relieve you, you feel confident that it's going to stay a one-run game." On the other side, the Yankees hadn't allowed a hit themselves until the seventh Thursday. Starter Sean Black retired all 12 Manatees he faced, striking out four in four frames. Reliever Joel De La Cruz kept the no-hitter going for two more innings before Cameron Garfield broke it up with a one-out double and Cody Hawn ended the shutout in the next at-bat with an RBI single.
  13. Final: Tampa (Yankees) 0, Brevard County 5 'Tees one-hit Yanks Goforth goes seven scoreless in 5-0 win By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees VIERA, Fla. - David Goforth's seven innings of one-hit ball highlighted the Brevard County Manatees' 5-0 shutout of the Tampa Yankees on Thursday night at Space Coast Stadium. In four of his seven starts this season, Goforth (2-4, 3.41) has not allowed an earned run. It was his longest start of the season and it was the third time in his career that he has allowed just one hit in a start. In his first start of the season after five relief appearances, Tampa's Sean Black went four perfect innings but did not factor into the decision. Joel De La Cruz (1-2) hit Brandon Macias in the fifth to break up the combined perfecto and then didn't allow a hit until the seventh. Cameron Garfield broke up the no-hitter with a one-out double and then scored the first run of the game on a RBI single from Cody Hawn. After a perfect top of the eighth with two strikeouts for Francisco Rodriguez, Brevard's (18-16) bats added extra insurance with four runs in the home half. Yadiel Rivera and Lance Roenicke had back-to-back hits to start the inning against Zach Arneson then with one out T.J. Mittelstaedt was intentionally walked to load the bases. Greg Hopkins made Tampa (14-19) pay by floating a single that landed just inside the chalk down the right field line that plated Rivera. Then with two outs, Garfield doubled for the second time in as many innings to bring in Mittelstaedt and make it 4-0. Hopkins then scored on a wild pitch by Arneson. Dan Meadows came on for the ninth inning and locked down the fourth shutout of the season for the Manatees. Brevard County will send southpaw Brent Suter (2-0, 2.13) to the mound in the second game of the series tomorrow, while Tampa's Scottie Allen (3-1, 4.75) will toe the rubber for the visitors, for a 6:35 p.m. first pitch. Brevard County Box Score David Goforth had his best outing of the year, tossing seven innings of one hit, shutout baseball. He's alternated good start, bad start, good start, bad start all year. Hopefully he can build on this in his next outing, but seven innings of shut out baseball is pretty impressive. Francisco Rodriguez struck out two in his inning of work. Dan Meadows worked a clean ninth and has yet to give up a run in his five outings. Cameron Garfield went 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles. Lance Roenicke was 1 for 2 with a double and a walk. Greg Hopkins, Cody Hawn and Yadiel Rivera each had a single. Brevard County Play-By-Play Brevard County Bottom of the 8th Pitching Change: Zach Arneson replaces Joel De La Cruz. 14. Final: Charlotte (Rays) 7, Brevard County 6 Brevard edged 7-6 in slugfest with Charlotte Macias goes 4-for-4, Fiers fans eight as 'Tees split series By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees VIERA, Fla. - Lead-off home runs for each team set the tone for an offensive game in which the Charlotte Stone Crabs out-powered the Brevard County Manatees, 7-6 on Wednesday afternoon in front of 4,072 fans at Space Coast Stadium to split the four-game series. Kes Carter launched the first pitch of the game for the first home run, but the Manatees (17-16) answered back with Brandon Macias starting the bottom of the first with a homer. Cameron Garfield followed suit a few batters later to give the home team a 2-1 lead. Brevard's advantage was extended in the third inning, when Macias came around to score a RBI single off the bat of Garfield. Charlotte (10-22) tipped the game back in their favor with a three-run fifth inning. After a ground out to begin the fifth, three straight batters reached with the first two scoring on a Willie Argo triple to make it a 4-3 ballgame. That lasted only until the next half inning, when Macias doubled and scored to even it out at four runs apiece on a Greg Hopkins double that chased starter Felipe Rivero from the contest. Macias went 4-for-4 on the day and reached on a walk in his other plate appearance. It was the fourth time in Macias' career and second time this season that he has recorded four hits in a game. Mike Fiers made the start for the Manatees, going six innings with eight strikeouts and no walks. He did give up six hits for four runs, including the homer to Carter to start the game. Andre Lamontagne came out of the bullpen in a tie game and surrendered just one hit was in line for the win, when Macias doubled home Lance Roenicke in the fifth to give the Manatees a 5-4 lead. His potential win was taken away when Richie Shaffer took Kevin Shackelford deep for two runs and a 6-5 lead in the eighth. However, the Manatees were again able to answer back with a run in the home half on a walk, a hit batter and an error followed by Roenicke's RBI groundout. Brevard County though would strand two runners in the scoring position to end the threat. Entering the ninth, the game was tied at 6-6 until Charlotte catcher Jake DePew hit his team's third homer of the game and fifth overall. Charlotte's Lenny Linsky worked himself into a jam with runners on first and second with just one out in the bottom of the ninth, but fanned two straight batters to get out of it and earn the victory. Brevard County will look to get back on track as they open a three-game series with the Tampa Yankees (14-18) beginning on Thursday night at 6:35 p.m. at Space Coast Stadium. Brevard County Box Score Heck of a game for Brandon Macias. On base all five times. 4 for 4 with a walk, two doubles and a home run. Knocked in two and scored three runs. Pretty nice little Wednesday. Unfortunately, Macias had exactly half of the Manatees hits today. Cameron Garfield had a two hit day, including his team leading sixth home run. Lance Roenicke and Greg Hopkins each doubled for the other two Brevard hits. In what's been a season long issue, the Manatees struck out another 14 times today. Mike Fiers gave up four runs in six innings in his first BC outing. Andre Lamontagne pitched a scoreless seventh. Final: Charlotte (Rays) 5, Brevard County 3 Brevard bested by Charlotte, 5-3 By Dave Walkovic / Brevard County Manatees VIERA, Fla. - The Charlotte Stone Crabs snapped an 11-game losing streak with a 5-3 victory over the Brevard County Manatees on Tuesday night at Space Coast Stadium. Starting pitcher Parker Markel carried a perfect game into the sixth inning for Charlotte (9-22) who led for all nine innings. Markel's perfect game bid ended with one out in the sixth when Lance Roenicke lashed a double to right-center field. Roenicke finished 2-for-3 on the evening and was the only Manatee hitter with a multi-hit game. The Manatees were held to just four hits all night long. The Stone Crabs wasted no time getting on the board against 'Tees starting pitcher Brooks Hall. Kes Carter led off the game with a triple that was lined down the first base line. With one out, Jake Hager hit a sacrifice fly to left field to give Charlotte the early 1-0 lead. The Stone Crabs extended their lead in the third inning. Jake Hager, Richie Shaffer and Alejandro Segovia all reached with two outs off of Hall. Jeffery Malm then smacked a two-run double off the right field wall to make it 3-0. Charlotte added two more in the sixth when Willie Argo hit an RBI double and Carter singled in another run. Hall (2-3, 2.75) would end up taking the loss as he gave up three runs in five innings of work. He allowed six hits, walked four and struck out two batters. Brevard County (17-15) did start to chip away at the deficit in the bottom of the sixth. After Roenicke broke up the perfecto with his one-out double, T.J. Mittelstaedt doubled to right to score Roenicke and put the Manatees on the board. After Greg Hopkins walked, Nick Ramirez crushed a two-run triple off the top of the batters' eye in center to make it a 4-2 game. The 'Tees would bring the tying run to the plate in both the seventh and eighth innings, but could not plate another run as Austin Hubbard tossed 2.1 scoreless innings to earn his third save of the season. Four-time Major League All-Star Francisco Rodriguez made his 2013 debut in the eighth inning. He walked Argo with two outs, but recorded a scoreless frame and struck out two batters. 16. Final: Charlotte (Rays) 2, Brevard County 4 'Tees nip Stone Crabs for third straight win By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees VIERA, Fla. - Yadiel Rivera's first inning double cleared the bases, brought home three runs and was ultimately the difference in a 4-2 Brevard County Manatees' win over the Charlotte Stone Crabs on Monday night at Space Coast Stadium. The win was the third in a row for Brevard County (17-14), matching the season's best win streak. On the other side, the loss was Charlotte's (8-22) 11th consecutive. Chadwin Stang added an insurance run in the top of the second as he hammered a 1-1 pitch over the left field wall to make it 4-0. Charlotte responded with two runs in a long top half of the third that saw Kes Carter lead off with a double and score two batters later on a Hector Guevara single. Jake Hager singled in between and also scored when Richie Shaffer hit a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to two runs. Rafael Neda nearly had a homer of his own in the bottom half of the third, but Taylor Motter robbed him with a catch off the top of the left field wall. That was the closest either team would get to scoring again as Brevard County didn't have a hitter reach in the fifth, sixth or seventh innings. The reigning Florida State League Pitcher of the Week Drew Gagnon (3-2, 5.29) earned the victory as he lasted five innings and struck out six. He surrendered both Stone Crabs runs on five hits and two walks. Chad Pierce threw three shutout innings in relief of Gagnon as he allowed just one hit and one walk. Seth Harvey came on in the ninth for a scoreless frame to earn his eighth save of the season. 17. That was easily one of the better prospect interviews I've read so far this season. I haven't given Jenkins much consideration because he's sort of stuck behind McFarland but he certainly was a toolsy draft pick and is a prospect to keep an eye on. Thanks, guys. It was my first time doing an interview like that and I thought it turned out pretty well. Renaldo did all the work. Very friendly and made things go extremely smoothly.
  18. Rattlers getting no-hit through six innings so far (This is my attempt to jinx it). Michael Reed has been the only baserunner after drawing a 4th inning walk. *edit* - It worked! Michael Reed with a double to lead off the seventh.
  19. Final: Charlotte (Rays) 2, Brevard County 10 Manatees' bats crush Charlotte 'Tees club nine extra-base hits, including three homers, in 10-2 rout By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees VIERA, Fla. - Ten different batters recorded at least one hit, with six batters notching multi-hit games in a 10-2 win for the Brevard County Manatees over the visiting Charlotte Stone Crabs on Sunday evening at Space Coast Stadium. Brevard County (16-14) built on its two home runs from Saturday's game in Dunedin as they notched three more as part of an offensive outburst that saw several team season highs fall. The ten runs matched the club's April 13 performance against Clearwater, while 17 hits bested the previous mark of 13. Those 17 hits included nine extra-base hits, which broke down to three home runs - matching Brevard's high in two other contests - a triple and five doubles. The Manatees had not recorded more than two doubles in a game before Sunday. A five-run sixth inning saw six hits for the best offensive frame of the year for the 'Tees. Two of those hits accounted for all five runs, as Nick Ramirez and Cody Hawn each took Stone Crabs (8-21) pitcher Eliazer Suero deep. Earlier in the game, Greg Hopkins went yard to begin the third inning. Following a 3-for-3 night with a walk on Saturday, John Dishon hit safely in each of his first three at-bats of the night to conclude a streak of seven straight plate appearances and six at bats in which he reached base. Among the others with multiple hits were Ramirez, Hawn, Hopkins, T.J. Mittelstaedt and Brandon Macias, whose RBI triple put the Manatees' first run on the board in the second inning. Jed Bradley (3-1, 3.04) earned the victory on the mound with six shutout innings as he matched a career-high seven strikeouts for the third time. For Charlotte, it was their tenth consecutive loss. The Manatees will look to repeat Sunday's performance when they take on the Stone Crabs again on Monday night at 6:35 p.m. Drew Gagnon (2-2, 5.59), who fired seven perfect frames his last time on the mound and has not allowed a run in his last 12.1 innings of work, will start for the 'Tees. He will be opposed by Ryan Carpenter (2-1, 2.48), who has been the ace of Charlotte's staff so far. Brevard County Box Score This was probably the Manatees best all around performance of the 2013 season. Jed Bradley threw six shutout innings to earn his third win of the year. Every player in the BC lineup had at least one hit. John Dishon was 3 for 4 following up a 3 for 3 game last night. Nick Ramirez and Cody Hawn each went 2 for 5 and each hit their fifth home run. Greg Hopkins went 2 for 4 with a double and a home run. Brandon Macias was 2 for 4 with a double and a triple. T.J. Mittelstaedt went 2 for 4 with a double. Ramirez and Macias each stole a base. 20. Final: Brevard County 5 Dunedin 4 Brevard nips Dunedin to avoid sweep Mittelstaedt, Stang homer in 5-4 win over Blue Jays By Dave Walkovic / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/assets/images/6/5/8/46646658/cuts/Stang_4.5_cj3hk6os_z2uf7usz.JPG Manatees center fielder Chadwin Stang went 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBI as Brevard County defeated the Dunedin Blue Jays 5-4 on Saturday night in Dunedin to salvage the final game in a three-game set. DUNEDIN, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees used the long ball and some stellar defense to hold off the Dunedin Blue Jays 5-4 and avoid the series sweep at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium on Saturday night. With a run already on the board in the frame, closer Seth Harvey entered with runners on the corners and two outs in the bottom of the 8th inning. With the Brevard County (15-14) leading 5-4, Harvey walked Derrick Chung after K.C. Hobson stole second to load the bases. Marcus Knecht then lined a hard hit ball to the left side. Third baseman Brandon Macias dove to his left, but could only get a piece of the baseball, which deflected towards shortstop Yadiel Rivera. Rivera picked up the ball with his bare hand and fired over to first to barely beat a hustling Knecht. The 'Tees would load up the bases in the top half of the ninth inning against Dustin Antolin, but Antolin struck out T.J. Mittelstaedt and retired Greg Hopkins to escape the jam. In the bottom half of the ninth, Dunedin (17-11) didn't go down quietly. Harvey walked Peter Mooney with one out before Jon Berti sharply grounded a ball to Yadiel Rivera who stepped on second and threw over to first in plenty of time to turn the game-ending double play. It was Harvey's first four-out save of the season. For Harvey, it was his seventh save in as many opportunities this year. Trailing 1-0 in the third inning, Brevard County put a three runs on the board to take the lead. Chadwin Stang drove in the first run of the frame with a RBI single to left on a chopping ball that third baseman Andy Burns had trouble with when he appeared to slip trying to make the play. The next batter, Mittelstaedt, launched a two-run home run to right field to give the Manatees the 3-1 lead. That score would hold into the seventh inning. John Dishon singled with two outs and then stole second to get into scoring position. Dishon finished 3-for-3 with a double, a walk and two runs scored. Stang then smacked a two-run home run to straight away center field to double the Brevard County lead. Stang was 3-for-3 with two runs and three RBI on the evening. Brent Suter (2-0, 2.13) earned his second win in as many starts with the Manatees. Suter lasted 6.2 innings and allowed three runs - two earned - on five hits. He walked one batter and struck out three. Two of the runs came when Matt Newman, the final batter that Suter faced, lashed a two-out, two-run double in the seventh. With the win, the Manatees salvage a game in the series and finish 3-4 on the week-long road trip. The Manatees will welcome the Charlotte Stone Crabs to Space Coast Stadium for the first game of a four-game series on Sunday evening at 5:05 p.m. Sunday marks the start of a seven-game home stand for the 'Tees. Lefty Jed Bradley (2-1, 3.92) will get the call for Brevard County. He will be opposed by Charlotte's Roberto Gomez (0-4, 7.04). Brevard County Box Score Chadwin Stang had been slumping lately but he broke out of it tonight in a big way, going 3 for 3 with 3 RBI and his first home run of the season. He did commit a fielding error but also recorded an outfield assist, gunning down a runner at the plate. T.J. Mittelstaedt also belted his first home run in just his second game with the Manatees. John Dishon reached base in all four of his plate appearances. He singled twice, walked and doubled. He also stole a base. Nick Ramirez, Brandon Macias and Yadiel Rivera each had a base hit. Brent Suter had another quality start, going 6.2 innings. He allowed two earned runs. Seth Harvey pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless relief to lock down his sixth save. 21. Final: Brevard County 4 Dunedin 11 Dunedin's offense explodes late to top 'Tees Brevard gets ahead early again but loses 11-4 to Jays By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/assets/images/8/7/6/46153876/cuts/Hawn_4.16_zsd69zx0_kqh84bj7.JPG Brevard County Manatees designated hitter Cody Hawn went 2-for-4 and hit his fourth home run of the season in an 11-4 loss to the Dunedin Blue Jays at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium in Dunedin on Friday night. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) DUNEDIN, Fla. - For the second straight night, early offense wasn't enough for the Brevard County Manatees as they dropped their second straight game, 11-4 to the Dunedin Blue Jays on Friday night at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium. Brevard (14-14) got on the board first when Yadiel Rivera crossed home on a passed ball in the second inning. The 'Tees then doubled the lead to 2-0, when Cody Hawn opened the fourth with his fourth home run of the season. Dunedin (17-10) answered back to tie it up in the bottom of the fourth, with Matt Newman's RBI double bringing home Derrick Chung before Newman scored a run of his own on a Nick Baligod single. In the top of the fifth, the Manatees wasted no time in regaining the lead. Chadwin Stang led off with a single and then moved to third on a T.J. Mittelstaedt double that appeared as though it had been caught by Blue Jays left fielder Marcus Knecht. Stang then scored on a groundout by Greg Hopkins. The Blue Jays busted the game wide open in the bottom of the fifth inning as a total of six runs came across for Dunedin in the frame. Each of the first three batters reached and a run had scored before an out was recorded. Marcus Knecht capped off the inning with a three-run homer to make it 8-3 through five innings. David Goforth (1-4, 4.28) took the loss for Brevard County after allowing seven runs - six earned - on 11 hits in 4.1 innings. He struck out five and walked just one batter. Goforth worked out of a jam with runners on first and third with nobody out in the first and another jam with runners on second and third with two outs in the second. The Manatees brought it back within four in the eighth, when Hopkins led off with a double, then moved to third and scored on back-to-back ground outs. Both Hopkins and Hawn had two hits each for the 'Tees. Matt Miller surrendered three more runs to make it 11-4 in the bottom of the eighth after a perfect seventh, as he walked two batters and yielded two doubles. Dunedin reached its season high in both runs (11) and hits (16) on Friday night. The Manatees will try to salvage the series with the finale on Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. when Brevard's Brent Suter (1-0, 1.50) and Dunedin's Casey Lawrence (2-1, 2.67) are expected to square off.
