Final: Peoria 1, Wisconsin 8 Wisconsin batters Peoria GRAND CHUTE, WI - Shaun Marcum pitched six strong innings and the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers offense hammered out twelve hits in an 8-1 win over the Peoria Chiefs Monday night at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Marcum picked up the win in his third rehabilitation start for the Rattlers. Ben McMahan led the way for the offense with three hits, three runs, and two RBI. Wisconsin (72-53 overall, 28-28 second half) scored three times in the bottom of the first inning. Peoria was charged with two errors in the inning to help the Rattlers get off to the fast start. Chadwin Stang reached on an infield single and Max Walla both reached on an error to start the inning. A sacrifice fly by Brandon Macias drove in Stang for the 1-0 lead. McMahan followed with a single to right. Walla, who was running on the pitch, would score when the Peoria right fielder overran the ball. Greg Hopkins doubled later in the frame to send McMahan home for a 3-0 lead. McMahan hit a two-run homer in the third inning to extend the Rattlers lead to 5-0. In the fourth inning, Rafael Neda led off with a double. Yadiel Rivera followed with an RBI single and Wisconsin was up 6-0. Peoria (56-69, 21-35) got a run off Marcum in the top of the fifth. Jacob Rogers drew a walk with one out. A two out double by Bijan Radamacher drove in Rogers. The Rattlers got that run back in the bottom of the fifth inning on an RBI grounder from Hopkins and took a 7-1 lead. Marcum tossed a scoreless sixth inning before calling it a night. He allowed one run on four hits, walked one, and struck out three. Marcum, who was on a 75 pitch limit, threw 71 pitches - 50 for strikes - and was in line for the win. Wisconsin added one more run. Macias tripled with one out in the seventh and scored on a passed ball. That was more than enough for reliever Jacob Barnes. The Rattlers right-hander tossed three scoreless innings, struck out three, and earned his third save of the season. The final game of the four game series is Tuesday afternoon. Mark Williams (7-9, 3.86) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Jeff Antigua (1-2, 1.99) is set to start for the Chiefs. Game time is 12:05pm. Final: Peoria 4, Wisconsin 3 Peoria edges Rattlers in 4-3 win GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Peoria Chiefs broke a 2-2 tie with single runs in the seventh and eighth innings and held on for a 4-3 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Sunday afternoon at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The loss was Wisconsin's second straight to the Chiefs. Zeke DeVoss started the game with a triple. A sacrifice fly by Dustin Geiger put Peoria (56-68 overall, 21-34 second half) in front 1-0. Geiger struck again with two outs in the third inning. He lined a solo homer to left. Geiger's sixteenth home run of the season made it 2-0. The Rattlers (71-53, 27-28) pounced on a Peoria miscue to tie the game in the bottom of the third. Yadiel Rivera was at second with two outs and Ben McMahan struck out. But, the ball eluded catcher Chadd Krist to allow McMahan to reach, Rivera to take third base, and the inning to continue. Nick Ramirez was down to a 1-2 count against Peoria starter Yao-Lin Wang. Ramirez pulled the next pitch just inside the first base bag and two runs scored as the ball rattled around in the right field corner. That tied the game 2-2. Peoria took advantage of three straight one out walks by Wisconsin reliever Eric Semmelhack in the top of the seventh inning. A slow roller to short by Pin-Chieh Chen got the go ahead run home. Wes Darvill provided an insurance run with a two-out RBI single in the eighth inning for a 4-2 advantage. Wisconsin tried to rally in the bottom of the ninth. Max Walla drew a one out walk and Rivera singled to center. That forced the Chiefs to make a pitching change from Justin Berg to Larry Suarez. After the change, Chadwin Stang grounded into a force play at second base and the Rattlers had runners at the corners with two outs. Brandon Macias was down to his last strike against Suarez when he got a seeing-eye single into right field to score Walla. Stang raced for third on the play and - when he drew a throw - Macias took second to get the winning run into scoring position. But, Suarez denied the Rattlers a Sunday comeback by retiring McMahan on a popup to end the game. Game three of the series is Monday night. Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Shaun Marcum will make his third rehabilitation start for the Timber Rattlers. Peoria has Joe Zeller (2-3, 3.05) as their scheduled starting pitcher. Game time is 7:05pm. One fan in attendance at the game will win Marcum's game-worn jersey. Final: Peoria 9, Wisconsin 2 Chiefs cool Rattlers By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GRAND CHUTE, WI - Jorge Soler had four hits and the Peoria Chiefs right fielder led the way to a 9-2 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Saturday night at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Soler homered, doubled, singled twice, stole a base, and drove in two runs. The Chiefs collected 14 hits and Peoria starting pitcher Michael Jensen reached double digits in wins. Rattlers starter David Goforth struck out seven, but took the loss. Peoria (55-69 overall, 20-34 second half) grabbed the early lead as Tim Saunders drove in a run with a single in the top of the first inning. Wisconsin (71-52, 27-27) answered in the bottom of the second inning. Yadiel Rivera singled to knock Greg Hopkins in to tie the game. The Rattlers took the lead with an unearned run in the fourth inning. Rivera reached on an error with one out and stole second. A walk and an error loaded the bases. Chadwin Stang's run scoring fielder's choice scored Rivera and the Rattlers were up 2-1. The Chiefs came back in the top of the fifth inning. They loaded the bases on three singles. Saunders lifted a fly ball to medium right field. Stang made the catch and a strong throw to the plate, but Peoria catcher Yaniel Cabezas just beat the throw to score the tying run. Peoria would score another run in the inning as pitcher David Goforth's pickoff throw to first with runners on first and third was wild to allow Oliver Zapata to score the go ahead run from third. Soler launched a home run to the Peoria bullpen in left-center to start the sixth inning and put the Chiefs in front 4-2. Goforth left after six innings. He allowed four runs - three earned - on nine hits. Goforth also set a professional single game high for strikeouts with seven. Jensen went five innings, but allowed two runs - one earned. Jensen struck out seven, too. He was in line to pick up his tenth win of the season after he left the game. The Peoria batters removed all doubt in the seventh inning. The Chiefs had runners on first and second with two outs and the crowd was ready for the seventh inning stretch. Then, Soler lined a double down the third base line for an RBI against reliever Maverick Lasker. Jacob Rogers followed with a two run single and the Chiefs went up 7-2. Bijan Rademacher kept the inning going with a single. Then, Cabezas doubled in a run. Lasker hit Zapata to load the bases and Zeke DeVoss drew his second walk of the inning to force in a run to put the Chiefs up 9-2. The Rattlers had only one hit over their final three at bats and didn't threaten to score. Game two of the series is Sunday afternoon. Chad Thompson (4-2, 5.16) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Yao-Lin Wang (3-3, 2.98) is set to start for the Chiefs. Game time is 1:05pm. Final: Wisconsin 5, Beloit 2 Everyone contributes in Rattlers win at Beloit By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers BELOIT, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers defeated the Beloit Snappers 5-2 on Friday Night at Pohlman Field. Each Rattler in the lineup contributed in some way to help the Rattlers to win their second straight over their in-state rivals. There was solid pitching, a couple of really good defensive plays, timely hitting, and opportunistic base running in the win. Wisconsin (68-55 overall, 29-24 second half) had three hits in the top of the first inning, but needed an error to score their run. Chadwin Stang was at second base and Ben McMahan was at first with one out. Nick Ramirez singled to center and Stang was thrown out at the plate as he tried to score on the hit. Cameron Garfield's grounder to short turned into an error as the throw to get the inning ending force play at second went into right field. McMahan scored on the play for a 1-0 Wisconsin lead. Run scoring doubles by Greg Hopkins and Mike Garza in the fourth inning put the Rattlers up 3-0. Wisconsin pulled a double steal to get a run in the fifth. Chadwin Stang was at third and broke for the plate as the throw went through to second in an unsuccessful attempt to get Lance Roenicke on a stolen base attempt. McMahan tacked on a run in the sixth inning with a two-out RBI single for a 5-0 edge. Rattlers starting pitcher Chad Pierce was in and out of trouble through his five innings of work. But, he stranded eight Beloit runners on base, including five in scoring position, and struck out four to put himself in position for his sixth win of the season. Tyler Cravy took over for Pierce in the sixth inning and retired the first seven batters he faced. Then, Miguel Sano put Beloit (67-56, 28-25) on the scoreboard. The slugging third baseman for the Snappers lifted a 3-1 pitch from Cravy over the wall in center for his 25th home run of the season. Cravy would allow another run on a two out RBI single by Nate Roberts in the ninth, but he nailed down the final out for his third save of the season. The Timber Rattlers begin a seven game homestand Saturday night with the first game of a four-game series against the Peoria Chiefs. David Goforth (8-7, 5.04) is scheduled starter for the Timber Rattlers. Michael Jensen (9-5, 3.63) is set to be the starting pitcher for the Chiefs. Game time is 6:35pm. Final: Wisconsin 6, Beloit 5 Rattlers hold on to beat Beloit By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers BELOIT, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers took a 6-2 lead into the bottom of the ninth inning on Thursday night at Pohlman Field against the Beloit Snappers. The Rattlers won, but nothing is ever easy in this in-state rivalry. The Snappers scored three in the bottom of the ninth, but Wisconsin held on for a 6-5 win. Cameron Garfield had three more hits and two more RBI over his recent hot stretch to lead the offense. Garfield extended his hitting streak to six games with a two-run homer in the second inning to put the Rattlers (70-51 overall, 26-26 second half) up on Beloit early in the game. Lance Roenicke led off the Wisconsin third inning with his first professional home run. The Rattlers added runs in the third on a double by Garfield and a sacrifice fly by Greg Hopkins. Garfield would add a single in the sixth inning as he went 3-for-4 on the night. He is 12-for-22 during his six game hitting streak. Beloit (67-55, 28-24) got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning. A two-out RBI double by Stephen Wickens plated a run off Rattlers starting pitcher Mark Williams. Wisconsin got the run back in the top of the fifth. Brandon Macias hit his second double of the game - and 32nd of the season - with one out and went to third on a wild pitch. Ben McMahan followed with a triple to right-center to score Macias. The triple was the tenth of the season for McMahan and tied him for the Midwest League lead in that category. Williams gave up an RBI double to Kennys Vargas with one out in the fifth inning and the Snappers were within 6-2. Kevin Shackelford came on in relief of Williams and got out of the sixth with no more damage. Williams allowed two runs on five hits, walked two, and struck out three for the win. But, there were a few nervous moments late...very late in the game. Shackelford worked 2-2/3 scoreless innings and turned the 6-2 lead over to Stosh Wawrzasek for the bottom of the ninth. Wawrzasek entered Thursday's game with a scoreless streak of 18-2/3 innings. He gave up a hit to Beloit's leadoff batter, struck out the next batter, and walked the third batter to bring Miguel Sano to the plate in the ninth. Sano, the Midwest League leader in homers and RBI, ripped a double into the left field corner to score a run and make the score 6-3. Wawrzasek walked the next batter to load the bases and put the winning run at the plate in the form of Drew Leachman. Leachman drilled a 3-1 pitch off the wall in left-center field for a two-run double to pull the Snappers to within a run. The hit also put the tying run at third and Leachman at second with the winning run. There was still only one out. Wisconsin decided to walk Wickens intentionally to load the bases and set up the double play. Wawrzasek didn't need it. He struck out Matt Koch to get the second out. Pinch-hitter Tyler Grimes, the ninth Snapper to bat in the inning, watched strike three go by for the final out of the game as the Rattlers held on for the win. The Timber Rattlers and Snappers play game three of the series at Pohlman Field on Friday night. Chad Pierce (5-4, 3.59) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin. Tyler Jones (3-4, 5.25) is set to start for Beloit. Game time is 7:00pm. Tune in for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM or timberrattlers.com starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 6:40pm. HOME RUNS: WIS: Cameron Garfield (9th, 1 on in 2nd inning off Jason Wheeler, 0 out) Lance Roenicke (1st, 0 on in 3rd inning off Jason Wheeler, 0 out) WP: Mark Williams (7-9) LP: Jason Wheeler (13-6) TIME: 3:03 ATTN: 542 Wisconsin Box Score As homer mentioned earlier, another big night for Cameron Garfield. He was 3-4 with a double and his ninth home run of the year. He also knocked in 3 runs. It's really been an impressive bounce back season for him, as he;s up to .303 now and is hitting for power as well. Brandon Macias also had another nice night. He was 2-3 with two doubles and a walk. Macias is now 10-20 in his last five games. Lance Roenicke hit his first home run of the season. Nick Ramirez was 1-3 with a walk and Greg Hopkins went 1-3 with a sac fly. Fresh off being named MWL Pitcher of the Week, Mark Williams had a solid outing. He worked 5 1/3, giving up two runs on five hits. Kevin Shackelford had a really nice outing in relief, throwing 2 2/3 scoreless innings. Stosh Wawrzasek struggled in the ninth, giving up three runs on three hits, and walking three. But with the tying run on third and the winning run on second, Stosh managed to strike out the final two Snappers to preserve the victory. Attendance total of 542? Ouch. I guess football season is upon us. I'm guessing something happened to Beloit catcher Jairo Rodriguez, as he left the game after grounding out in the seventh. The Snappers had to insert their DH to catch and play National League ball with the pitcher's spot hitting. Wisconsin Play By Play Wisconsin Top of the 3rd Lance Roenicke homers (1) on a line drive to left field. Brandon Macias doubles (31) on a line drive to left fielder Drew Leachman. Ben McMahan strikes out swinging. Nick Ramirez singles on a fly ball to center fielder JaDamion Williams. Brandon Macias to 3rd. Cameron Garfield doubles (15) on a line drive to left fielder Drew Leachman. Brandon Macias scores. Nick Ramirez to 3rd. Gregory Hopkins out on a sacrifice fly to left fielder Drew Leachman. Nick Ramirez scores. With Mike Garza batting, Cameron Garfield caught stealing 3rd base, catcher Jairo Rodriguez to third baseman Miguel Sano.

The Snappers outlasted the Rattlers 13-10 in a back-and-forth game that was finally decided when Beloit scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Beloit (67-54 overall, 28-23 second half) scored an unearned run off Shaun Marcum in the bottom of the second inning. A dropped popup allowed Miguel Sano to reach second base. A fly ball out to deep left-center moved Sano to third. He scored on a two out single by Stephen Wickens. Wisconsin (69-51, 25-26) used the long ball to take the lead in the top of the third inning. Chadwin Stang launched a two-run homer off Beloit starting pitcher Cole Johnson to put the Rattlers in front 2-1. Johnson would walk Brandon Macias with two outs and be replaced by Tim Atherton. Ben McMahan welcomed Atherton to the game by lining a two-run homer to left for a 4-1 lead. Beloit would score twice in the fourth inning to pull to within a run. Eddie Rosario doubled and would score on a single by Kennys Vargas. Vargas would try to stretch the platy into a double and would be thrown out for the second out. Marcum gave up a single and two walks to load the bases before he left due to his pitch count. Jacob Barnes relieved Marcum and walked in a run before getting the final out of the fourth. That walk allowed the Snappers to get to within 4-3. Marcum pitched 3-2/3 innings, allowed three runs - two earned - on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts. The Snappers tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. Barnes retired the first two batters he faced in the inning, but allowed a walk, a single, and a walk to load the bases. A walk to Wickens forced in the tying run. Wisconsin responded in the top of the sixth with three runs. Rafael Neda smacked an RBI single to right and Greg Hopkins raced home from second base to take the lead. Stang followed with a two-run double to make it 7-4. But, Beloit kept coming back. JD Williams hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut into Wisconsin's lead to make it 7-6. Barnes gave up a hit and a walk in the seventh inning and left with two outs and runners at the corners. Michael Strong got the fly ball to left off the bat off the bat of Nate Roberts he needed to end the inning. But, the ball was dropped and two runs scored to put the Snappers up 8-7. Then, the Rattlers came back. Neda singled with one out and was replaced by pinch-runner Adrian Williams. The pinch-runner didn't need to run. Yadiel Rivera drove a 2-0 pitch from Beloit closer Corey Williams over the fence in right-center for a two-run home run and a 9-8 Wisconsin lead. Beloit wasn't done. Eddie Rosario homered on a 3-2 pitch to lead off the frame and tie the game 9-9. A single, a strikeout, and a walk, put runners at first and second with one out. Wickens singled to shallow right and the runner at third was going to hold, but the ball was bobbled in right and the go ahead run scored. Matt Koch drilled a three-run homer make it 13-9 in favor of Beloit. Nick Ramirez drilled a solo homer - the fourth Wisconsin homer of the night - with two outs in the top of the ninth inning. The home run was the fifteenth of the season for the Snappers. But, that was as close as the Rattlers would get. Game two of the series is Thursday night at Pohlman Field. The laces of the ball cut the glove off his hand and split open his finger (lots of blood!). His first knuckle may be broken as well. They are taking him to the Hospital in the morning. Final: Clinton 8, Wisconsin 9 (13 Innings) Ramirez delivers game-winning hit in the thirteenth By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers almost let one get away on Saturday night against the Clinton LumberKings. The LumberKings scored three times in the top of the ninth inning to send the game to extra innings. Nick Ramirez knocked in the winning run with a two-out bases loaded single in the thirteenth inning for a 9-8 win. The win was the third in a row for Wisconsin. Rafael Neda put the Rattlers (68-49 overall, 24-24 second half) up 1-0 in the second inning. Neda's double high off the wall in left field scored Greg Hopkins from first base. Ben McMahan made it 4-0 in favor of the Timber Rattlers in the third inning. Max Walla singled and Brandon Macias doubled to start the inning. McMahan followed with his tenth home run of the season, a three-run blast over the wall in left-center. The LumberKings (52-63, 29-18) scored their first run of the game in the top of the fourth inning. Patrick Brady hit a homer for the first Clinton hit of the game off Wisconsin starting pitcher Chad Pierce. They added a run in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI double by Jamal Austin. Wisconsin added to their lead with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Adrian Williams drove in a run with a single in the sixth. A balk called on Clinton reliever David Colvin allowed Macias to score from third and the Rattlers were up 6-2. Pierce left the game after seven innings. He allowed the two runs on five hits with a walk and six strikeouts. He did not figure into the decision. Clinton got to within a run in the top of the eighth inning as they scored three runs off Rattlers reliever Michael Strong. The LumberKings had runners at first and second with no outs and an error on a force play at second allowed a run to score. Dan Paolini followed with a two-run double and Clinton was down 6-5 with the tying run at second with no outs. Strong would escape the inning with the lead. The Rattlers got a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth. Consecutive RBI doubles by Carlos George and Max Walla with two outs drove put the Rattlers up 8-5. But, Clinton came back. A double and an error put two runners on with one out. Strong got the second out with a strikeout. But, Austin singled in a run. Then, Paolini tied the game with his second two-run double of the game. The game stayed tied 8-8 until the bottom of the thirteenth inning due to stellar relief work from Stosh Wawrzasek and Tyler Cravy of the Rattlers and Matt Brazis and Stephen Shackelford for Clinton. Wawrzasek and Cravy combined to work four scoreless innings and record six strikeouts. Brazis struck out five in three scoreless frames and Shackelford pitched a scoreless twelfth with a pair of strikeouts. Shackelford retired the first batter in the bottom of the thirteenth. Then, George singled to center. Walla's fly ball to left was dropped and Wisconsin had two runners on with one out. A wild pitch moved both George and Walla up a base and led to an intentional walk to Macias, who had four hits and reached base six times on Saturday. The LumberKings got the second out on a strikeout and that brought Ramirez to the plate. The Rattlers first baseman lined the first pitch from Shackelford into right field for a single to drive in George with the winning run. The 'walkoff' hit was the third of the season for Ramirez and Wisconsin got to celebrate their tenth 'walkoff' win at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium this season. Game two of the series is Sunday afternoon. Wisconsin will have David Goforth (8-6, 4.88) as their scheduled starting pitcher. Clinton has Jordan Shipers (4-5, 3.80) as their scheduled starter. Final: Cedar Rapids 0, Wisconsin 2 (Game Two) Williams Ks 11 in game two for 2-0 shutout By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GRAND CHUTE, WI - Mark Williams made a spot start for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in game two of Friday's doubleheader against the Cedar Rapids Kernels at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Williams made the most of it as he tossed a complete game shutout and struck out eleven in a 2-0 Rattlers victory. The win gave the Rattlers a sweep in the twinbill. Cedar Rapids (46-71 overall, 14-33 second half) had a few chances early against Williams. A walk and a two out single put runners at first and second in the third inning. Williams ended that inning with a strikeout. Alex Yarbrough doubled to start the fourth. Williams got a flyout to center, a grounder to first and strikeout number six to keep Yarbrough from scoring. Wisconsin (67-49, 23-24) had difficulty mounting a rally against Kernels starting pitcher Austin Wood, who did not give up a hit in his first 4-1/3 innings. That would change in the bottom of the fifth. Greg Hopkins and Mike Garza each singled with one out. Yadiel Rivera followed with a single to center and Hopkins scored the first run of the game. Later in the inning, Max Walla's two-out single scored Garza and the Rattlers were up 2-0. Williams went back out for the sixth inning and pitched around a one out single by recording his ninth and tenth strikeouts of the night. The Rattlers starter headed to the mound for the top of the seventh and a chance for the first complete game by a Rattlers pitcher this season. He got the first two outs, but allowed a single to Abel Baker that extended the game. Cedar Rapids went to pinch-hitter Frazier Hall, who had homered off Shaun Marcum in game one of the doubleheader. Williams got Hall to chase a 2-2 pitch for strike three to end the game with his eleventh strikeout of the game. The Timber Rattlers continue their homestand with a three-game series against the Clinton LumberKings. Game one against Clinton is Saturday night. Fond du Lac, Wisconsin native Chad Pierce (5-4, 3.67) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Rattlers. The LumberKings will send Mayckol Guaipe (3-0, 3.19) to the mound. Game time is 6:35pm. Saturday is Jimmy Buffett Night and Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium becomes Margaritaville. The Rattlers players will wear special Jimmy Buffett jerseys and you can bid during the silent auction to take one of the jerseys home. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Fox Valley Humane Association. It's also a Fly Away Saturday. Greg Hopkins was on base twice with a single and a walk, as was Brandon Macias who walked and was hit by a pitch. Speaking of which, that was a Timber Rattlers record 19th time that Macias was plunked this season, surpassing the old mark set in 1996 by Luis Tinoco. Mark Williams pitched a great game to earn his sixth win of the season. He went the whole way, striking out 11 Cedar Rapids hitters. Greg Hopkins doubled to start the inning. An error on a sacrifice bunt by Carlos George put runners on second and third. Rafael Neda drew a walk to load the bases with no outs. Wisconsin got a run when Adrian Williams hit into a 4-3 double play. Beloit scored a run in the bottom of the second inning on a double steal as Stephen Wickens scored from third after Roberts drew a throw as he stole second base. The Rattlers got another run in the third inning. Brandon Macias doubled and took third on a single by Cameron Garfield. Nick Ramirez singled to right to drive in Macias and make the score 4-2. Beloit started to pull away in the third inning. Rosario hit a homer to start the frame. In the fourth, Rosario would knock in Roberts with a single. Miguel Sano followed with an RBI triple. In the fifth, Tyler Grimes drove in a run with a two-out single. Roberts followed with an RBI triple and would score on an error to make the score 9-2 in favor of the Snappers. Wisconsin's defense held Beloit off the scoreboard in the sixth inning, but an RBI grounder by Rosario in the seventh made it 10-2. The RBI was the fourth of the night for Rosario. Eric Semmelhack pitched the first four innings for Wisconsin and allowed six runs on ten hits. He would be charged with the loss. Maverick Lasker worked the final four innings and allowed four runs (two earned). Chadwin Stang extended his hitting streak to 19 games with a single in the fourth inning. He picked up his second hit of the night in the ninth inning. His RBI double scored Williams. Stang would score on an odd play as Beloit reliever Corey Kimes got a strike out on a pitch in the dirt for the apparent final out of the inning. But, the routine throw to first was wild and Stang crossed the plate to account for the final run of the game. Wisconsin had ten hits and Beloit committed three errors. But, the Timber Rattlers stranded eleven runners on base as they went 2-for-15 with runners in scoring position in the game. The Timber Rattlers return to Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium to start a series with the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Wednesday night. Final: Wisconsin 3, Beloit 5 Beloit's big inning enough to beat the Rattlers Garfield hits two of Wisconsin's three homers in loss By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers BELOIT, WI - The Beloit Snappers scored five runs in the third inning on Monday night at Pohlman Field. It was enough for the Snappers to beat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 5-3. Miguel Sano tormented the Timber Rattlers with another home run and offset a two homer night by Wisconsin's Cameron Garfield. The loss was the second straight for the Rattlers. Brandon Macias gave Wisconsin (65-47 overall, 21-22 second half) a quick lead when he hit a home run to lead off the game. Garfield followed with a solo home run of his own two outs later and the Rattlers were up 2-0 against Beloit starter Taylor Rogers. Beloit (60-53, 21-22) struck back hard in the bottom of the third inning against Wisconsin starting pitcher David Goforth. AJ Pettersen doubled with one out for the Snappers first hit of the game. Nate Roberts would double to score Pettersen. A walk to JD Williams was followed by a two-run double off the bat of Eddie Rosario. Then, Sano drilled a two-run homer put the Snappers up 5-2. The homer for Sano was his 23rd of the season and gave him 86 RBI this year. The blast was his fourth in nine games against Wisconsin this season. Garfield, who went 3-for-3 with a walk on the evening, struck again in the sixth inning with another solo home run. That got the Rattlers to within two runs. Garfield has eight home runs this year. Chadwin Stang started the eighth inning with a double off Beloit reliever Corey Williams. The double extended Stang's hitting streak to eighteen games, the second longest hitting streak in the Midwest League this season. Garfield would walk with one out to put the tying runs on base for Nick Ramirez, but Williams struck out Ramirez for the second out. Beloit went to right-handed reliever Zack Jones to match up against Ben McMahan. The first pitch from the Beloit reliever went to the backstop for a wild pitch to move the tying runs into scoring position. Jones, a foruth round pick of the Minnesota Twins in the 2012 draft, would escape by getting McMahan to pop out to right. Jones would pitch a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his third save of the season. The final game of the series is Tuesday night at Pohlman Field. Eric Semmelhack (1-0, 3.46) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Tyler Jones (2-4, 5.26) is set to go for Beloit. The 21-year-old catcher was on base all four times. He had the two home runs mentioned by Chris as well as a single and a walk. Brandon Macias also had a home run for the Rattlers. The three long balls accounted for all the offense tonight. Lance Roenicke went 2-4 with a double. Chadwin Stang returned to action after an ankle injury kept him out of the past few games and he went 1-4 with a double to extend his hitting streak to 18 games. Ben McMahan had the other T-Rats base hit. David Goforth was the starting pitcher, but he wound up going only four innings tonight. As has been his MO, when he gets in to troulbe, it's usually one big inning that gets him. Tonight it was the third, when he gave up all five of the runs he would surrender. Five walks, five hits and an error on Goforth all contributed to the damage. Stosh Wawrzasek continued his fine season, with three more scoreless innings of relief. He hasn't given up a run in a month and has dropped his ERA to 0.92. Tonight he allowed just two hits and struck out five. Mark Williams pitched a scoreless eight inning, walking one and striking out two. I'd agree with your assessment for the most part. The difference between 2010 and 2012 has been pretty noticeable. Not that he was ever bad defensively, but I think his defense has been better this season, at least in the games I've seen. Garfield's done a good job of blocking and I've also noticed a good amount of steals that haven't necessarily been on the catcher either (pitches in the dirt, huge jumps, etc). I don't know that he'll ever be a gold glover or anything, but his bat will be what keeps him moving up the ladder and his defense is good enough that he should be fine to stay behind the plate. In terms of defense I would put Neda ahead of Garfield, but Garfield ahead of Tyler Roberts. Just my opinion.

Rattler Radio Nine after 9 1.A couple of injury updates to start. Stephen Peterson said that his ankle buckled when he went to field that bunt in the seventh inning last night. He was getting treatment before the game. That will probably be the case over the next few days. 2.Chadwin Stang said that he was feeling as good as he has ever felt last Sunday and Monday in Clinton. Then, he tweaked something in the game against Burlington. He mentioned that he probably could have played today, but the decision was made to hold him out for one more day.

Final: Wisconsin 2, Beloit 8 Snappers smack Rattlers on Sunday in Beloit BELOIT, WI - JD Williams hit a grand slam home run in the fourth inning to give the Beloit Snappers a huge early lead on Sunday afternoon at Pohlman Field. The Snappers would cruise to an 8-2 victory over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Miguel Sano hit a solo homer to start the Beloit half of the second inning. The home run, an opposite field blast to right-center, was his 22nd of the season. Sano leads the Midwest League in that category. Rattlers starting pitcher Chad Pierce retired the first two batters he faced in the bottom of the third inning. Then, Beloit (59-53 overall, 20-22 second half) would load the bases on two singles and a walk. An error on a ground ball off the bat of Kennys Vargas allowed two runs to score and the Snappers to take a 3-0 lead. Wisconsin (65-46, 21-21) got on the board in the top of the fourth inning. Cameron Garfield walked and went to second on a wild pitch. Ben McMahan's fly ball to center was lost in the sun by Williams and Garfield took third on the play. Mike Garza's sacrifice fly got Garfield home for the run to pull within 3-1. The first three Beloit batters to hit in the bottom of the fourth bunted. Wang Wei Lin bunted for a hit. Jairo Rodriguez attempted to bunt Lin into scoring position, but reached on a hit when his popped up bunt bounced away from Pierce, who made a diving attempt at a catch. Tyler Grimes completed the streak of bunts when his foul bunt was run down by Garfield behind home plate for the first out of the inning. But, Pierce would hit the next batter to load the bases. Williams made up for his miscue in the field in the top of the inning by hitting a high fly ball down the right field line that carried over the wall for a grand slam and a 7-1 lead for Beloit. Both offenses were silent until late in the game after that home run. Beloit scored a run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning to go up 8-1. Nick Ramirez launched a solo homer with two out in the top of the ninth for Wisconsin's first hit since McMahan's fourth inning single. The home run was the fourteenth of the season for Ramirez. Beloit starting pitcher David Hurlbut allowed one run on two hits with five strikeouts over six innings for his fifth win of the season. Each team has won a game in the first two played of the four game series. Game three of the series is Monday night at Pohlman Field. Final: Wisconsin 2, Beloit 1 Wisconsin holds off Beloit for narrow victory By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers BELOIT, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers scored two runs in the first inning and held on for a 2-1 victory over the Beloit Snappers Saturday night at Pohlman Field. Matt Miller allowed one run in six innings for his tenth win of the season. Three relievers combined to work the final three innings to preserve the win. The Timber Rattlers (65-45 overall, 21-20 second half) jumped on Beloit starting pitcher Jason Wheeler right away. Brandon Macias singled to start the game and Carlos George bunted for a hit. Greg Hopkins, the third hitter of the game, singled to right to drive in Macias and get George to third base. Nick Ramirez grounded into a double play that allowed George to score the second run of the inning. Wheeler would strike out ten and allow three more hits over eight innings, but he was never in a position to pick up his thirteenth win of the year. Beloit (58-53, 19-22) got a run back in the bottom of the second inning. Kennys Vargas hit a solo homer with one out to make the score 2-1. Miller walked the tightrope for the rest of his six innings of work. He pitched around a leadoff double and a pair of walks in the third inning. In the fourth, Beloit put two runners on base with one out on a walk and a single. Both were left stranded. In the sixth inning, Miguel Sano doubled with one out. Miller retired the next two batters on a fly ball and a grounder to maintain the 2-1 lead. Stephen Peterson relieved Miller to start the seventh inning and walked the first batter he faced. The next batter dropped a sacrifice bunt and Peterson got the out at first, but was injured on the play and had to leave the game. Michael Strong would throw a wild pitch to move the tying run to third base, but got a strikeout and a liner to second to end the seventh. Strong came back out to pitch the bottom of the eighth inning and got the first out. A single by Eddie Rosario put the tying run on first base and with the right-handed Sano and switch-hitting Vargas due up, the Rattlers went to right-handed reliever Stosh Wawrzasek. Wawrzasek struck out Sano, who leads the Midwest League in homers with 21 and RBI with 83, for the second out of the inning. Wawrzasek struck out Vargas to end the eighth and strand the tying run at first. Wawrzasek worked a perfect ninth inning - with a pair of strikeouts - to close out the Snappers and earn his second save of the season. Game two of the series is Sunday afternoon at Pohlman Field. Final: Burlington 1, Wisconsin 0 Bees earn a split with a 1-0 shutout By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GRAND CHUTE, WI - A four game battle between possible Midwest League playoff opponents ended in a stalemate. The Burlington Bees defeated the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 1-0 on Friday night at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Sean Jamieson had three hits - including a solo homer in the fifth inning - for Burlington. Both teams wound up with two wins in the four game series. Burlington (54-55 overall, 21-19 second half) scored the only run of the game on a solo homer by in the fifth inning. Jamieson hit a home run to left field with one out off Jacob Barnes for a 1-0 lead. Barnes pitched seven innings, would allow four hits, and match his single game high for strikeouts as a professional with nine. But, he would be tagged with the loss. Wisconsin (64-45, 20-20) had two good chances to score. Carlos George started the bottom of the fourth inning with a double, but would be caught trying to steal third. Brandon Macias drew a walk, but was left at first base. In the eighth inning, Yadiel Rivera tripled to the right field corner to start the inning against reliever Raul Alcantara. Left-handed reliever Chas Mye came on to face left-handed pinch hitter Nick Ramirez and got the strikeout. Burlington went to closer Jonathan Joseph to get right-handed hitters Lance Roenicke on a pop out Carlos George on a strikeout. Joseph came back out to work a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his eleventh save of the season. If the season had ended after Friday's game, Wisconsin and Burlington would play each other in the first round of the Midwest League playoffs. The Timber Rattlers won the Western Division in the first half. The Bees are currently second in the divisional standings for the second half, two games behind first place Clinton and two games in front of third place Kane County. There are still thirty games left in the regular season. Plus, the teams meet in the three game series in Burlington over Labor Day weekend to end the regular season. Carlos George had a 2-4 night with a double. He also wound up starting in center field which as far as I can tell was his first ever appearance in the outfield. The Rattlers were playing shorthanded in the outfield after Chadwin Stang was a late scratch from the lineup. Greg Hopkins went 1-3. Yadiel Rivera was 1-3 with a triple, and Adrian Williams was 1-2 before being lifted for pinch-hitter Nick Ramirez late in the game. Brandon Macias was tossed in the 9th inning, though I'm not sure why. Perhaps Chris will mention it in Nine after 9. Final: Burlington 1, Wisconsin 3 Back-to-back homers propel Rattlers to win By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GRAND CHUTE, WI - Yadiel Rivera and Chadwin Stang hit consecutive solo home runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to break a 1-1 tie with the Burlington Bees on Thursday afternoon at Time Warner Cable Field at Fix Cities Stadium. Pitchers Eric Semmelhack, Maverick Lasker, and Kevin Shackelford made sure that was enough. The trio of Wisconsin hurlers held that 3-1 lead to the end of the game as Wisconsin defeated Burlington. Rashun Dixon gave the Bees (53-55 overall, 21-18 second half) a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning. He hit a leadoff home run off Eric Semmelhack. The homer was the second of the series and ninth of the season for Dixon. That was the only run for the Bees. Semmelhack would work around three hits and three walks over five innings and - thanks to just enough offense - he would pick up the win. Wisconsin (64-44, 20-19) answered in the Dixon home run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Mike Garza drove in Max Walla with a two-out single to tie the game. The Rattlers continued their recent power surge to take the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Rivera cracked a one out solo home run to the Burlington bullpen beyond the wall in left-center for a 2-1 lead. Stang was next and he crushed a 1-2 pitch over the batter's eye in center. The back-to-back homers put the Rattlers up 3-1. Wisconsin had homered 28 times in 28 games in the month of July and the two homers on Wednesday gave them 30 home runs in their last 30 games. Stang, who also doubled later in the game, pushed his hitting streak to 17 games with his two hits on Thursday. The 17-game hitting streak is tied for the second longest in the Midwest League this season. The Rattlers centerfielder is 26-for-73 (.356) during the streak. Lasker took over for Semmelhack and tossed three scoreless innings. Kevin Shackelford tossed a scoreless ninth for his fourth save of the season. The final game of the four game series is Friday night. Jacob Barnes (4-3, 3.24) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Julio Ramos (0-0, 0.75) is set to start for the Bees. Game time is 7:05pm. Fang T. Rattler, the mascot of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers turns 18 this year and the Rattlers are throwing him a big party on Friday night. Numerous mascots from local businesses and sports teams will join the festivities. The annual mascot kickball game begins at 6:00pm on field. All of the mascots will help with promotions and interact with fans during the game. Just watch out for Gnaf T. Rattler, the evil twin of Fang. It is also Gnaf's birthday, but he is a little jealous of the attention that Fang is receiving on his big day. There is a CANS 4 CAKE Food Drive with donations to benefit St. Joe's Food Program, too. Final: Burlington 3, Wisconsin 1 Bees break tie late to beat Rattlers By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GRAND CHUTE, WI - Aaron Shipman tripled in a pair of runs in the top of the ninth inning to give the Burlington Bees a 3-1 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium on Wednesday night. Both starting pitchers were good, but neither were around for the decision. Max Muncy put the Bees (53-54 overall, 21-17 second half) in front in the second inning. He hit a home run to right-center off Rattlers starting pitcher David Goforth and the solo shot made it 1-0. The Rattlers (63-44, 19-19) were primed to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. Chadwin Stang extended his hitting streak to sixteen games with a leadoff triple against Bees starting pitcher Drew Granier. But, Granier got out of the jam with a pair of strikeouts around a line out to third base. Goforth left the bases loaded in the top of the fourth inning and faced the same situation with two outs in the top of the sixth. He stranded three Bees in the sixth, too. Wisconsin tied the game in the bottom of the sixth. Stang tripled with one out to set up the inning. Wednesday marked the second time Stang has had two triples in a game this season. It was also the third time he's had two triples in a game in his Rattlers career. Lance Roenicke drove in Stang with a sacrifice fly to even the game 1-1. That was the only run allowed by Granier. The Bees starting pitcher struck out eight and walked one over six innings. Goforth would toss seven innings and strike out four. He worked around four walks and five hits to allow just one run. Nick Rickles started the Burlington ninth inning with a single off reliever Tyler Cravy. Chi-Fang Pan dropped a bunt in front of the plate that left an opportunity to get Rickles, the Bees catcher, at second base. However, the throw sailed into center for an error and the Bees had a pair of runners in scoring position and no outs. Cravy got the first out, but Shipman lined a triple to right-center to put Burlington up 3-1. Bees closer Jonathan Joseph retired the Rattlers in order in the bottom of the ninth inning to finish off the Rattlers. Game three of the series is Thursday afternoon. Eric Semmelhack (0-0, 4.50) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Rattlers. AJ Cole (5-2, 2.06) is set to start for the Bees. Game time is 12:05pm. Goforth is 3-1 with a 3.80 ERA since the All-Star break. He struck out four and walked four. Tyler Cravy took the loss in relief. He pitched two innings and gave up two runs, one earned, on two hits. That's their second shutout in the last 5 games. Matt Miller is quietly having a pretty solid season. As a 23 year old, repeating Low-A, he should have success and he has lately. Since the All-Star break he is 4-2 with a 3.20 ERA. I'd still like to see more consistency out of him, but that's three really good starts he's strung together now. Tonight he threw six shutout innings, giving up five hits. Stephen Peterson pitched the finals three innings and was just as good, giving up only two hits. Peterson has allowed just one run in his last six outings. Offensively it was Nick Ramirez leading the charge, homering for the second straight game. He went 2-4 and knocked in three runs. Max Walla was 1-3 with a walk and hit his 6th home run of the season. Brandon Macias was on base twice with a double and a walk. He had 2 RBI and scored two T-Rats runs. But Billings again responded with three in the bottom of the seventh. Catcher Michael Turay was 2-4 with a double and scored two runs. Helena's outfield accounted for five of the Brewers 11 hits. Ruben Ozuna and Raul Mondesi Jr. each had 2-4 days and Michael Reed added a single and a walk.
