Final: Wisconsin 9, Clinton 4 Rattlers hit three homers to bash Clinton By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers CLINTON, IA - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers have been hitting home runs at a torrid pace in the month of July. They had hit 23 in the first 25 games during the month. On Sunday, the Rattlers cracked three more homers to defeat the Clinton LumberKings 9-4 at Ashford University Field. Chadwin Stang, Cameron Garfield, and Nick Ramirez all went deep for Wisconsin to help the Rattlers snap Clinton's six-game winning streak. Stang wasted no time in extending his hitting streak to 13 games and in giving the Timber Rattlers a 1-0 lead. Wisconsin's centerfielder blasted the second pitch of the game over the wall in left-center for a solo home run. Wisconsin (61-43 overall, 17-18 second half) pushed their lead to 4-0 with three runs in the second inning. Ramirez doubled to start the frame and Ben McMahan drove him in with a triple. Mike Garza followed with an RBI single. Later in the inning, Max Walla drew a bases loaded walk with one out to force in a run for a 4-0 lead. Wisconsin would leave the bases loaded in the inning. Clinton (44-59, 21-14) got a run off Wisconsin starting pitcher Jacob Barnes in the bottom of the second inning. A sacrifice fly by Toby Demello got a run home. The LumberKings pulled to within a run on two-run single by James Zamarippa in the bottom of the fourth. Clinton loaded the bases with one out, but Barnes got out of the inning with an inning ending 4-6-3 double play. Garfield made it 5-3 with a homer to start the Rattlers fifth. But, Clinton came back with a two-out RBI single by Patrick Brady in the bottom of the fifth. That 5-4 lead held through the sixth inning. Then, Ramirez padded the advantage with one swing of the bat. Left-handed Clinton reliever Jeremy Dobbs walked Garfield with one out. Greg Hopkins reached on a fielder's choice after an errant throw to second on an attempt to force Garfield. That play left runners at first and second for Ramirez. Dobbs fell behind Ramirez 3-0 and grooved the next pitch thinking that Ramirez would be taking. The Rattlers first baseman was not taking. The lefty hit a titanic line drive home run way over the 401' marker in right-center field. The 3-run homer gave the Ramirez his twelfth home run of the season and the Rattlers an 8-4 lead. Ramirez tacked on one more RBI with a two-out double. His four RBI in the game gave Ramirez 52 runs batted in for the season and put him in the team lead in that category. Barnes worked five innings and picked up the win. Stosh Wawrzasek pitched four innings of scoreless relief and earned his first save of the season. Game three of the series in Clinton is Monday night. Matt Miller (8-7, 3.98) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. The LumberKings have Seon-Gi Kim (2-2, 3.76) set to take the mound. Game time is 7:00pm. Tune in for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM or timberrattlers.com starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 6:40pm. All three of his hits were for extra bases (two doubles and home run #12), he also knocked in 4 of Wisconsin's runs. Ramirez is hitting .303 in day games this season. Chadwin Stang went 2-4 with a walk and his 5th home run. Cameron Garfield belted his 6th of the season. Michael Garza had a 2-4 day at the plate and is hitting .300 in his last 10. Who would have guessed your team leader in triples would be Ben McMahan? He got his 7th of the season today (tied with Stang). Jacob Barnes got his 4th win of the year, going five innings and allowing four runs. He did give up nine hits, but limited the damage. Stosh Wawrzasek relieved him and had another fantastic outing. He worked the final four innings to get his first save. Stosh only gave up three hits and did not allow a run. That's four straight scoreless outings for him, spanning 12 innings of work. The Rattlers once again played another clean defensive game, not committing any errors. Final: Wisconsin 4, Kane County 1 Wisconsin completes the sweep in Kane County Goforth leads the way By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GENEVA, IL - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers did something with a 4-1 win over the Kane County Cougars at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark that they hadn't done since 2009. The win gave Wisconsin a three game sweep of the Cougars. David Goforth allowed a run on two hits and picked up his eighth win of the season. Chadwin Stang and Cameron Garfield provided key hits for the Timber Rattlers. Ben McMahan tripled with one out in the top of the second inning. Garfield followed with an RBI single and the Rattlers (60-42 overall, 16-17 second half) led 1-0 early. Goforth was sharp. He took a no-hitter into the sixth inning. A one out infield single by Tim Ferguson in the sixth broke up the no-hit bid. The Rattlers right-hander got out of the inning when the next hitter lined into an unassisted double play on the next pitch. Wisconsin pushed their lead to 2-0 in the top of the seventh inning. Garfield doubled to start the inning and a one out walk to Adrian Williams put runners on first and second. Stang blooped a single into right-center to score Garfield. The hit extended Stang's hitting streak to eleven games, the longest hitting streak of the season by a Timber Rattler. Kane County (50-53, 16-17) broke through against Goforth in the bottom of the seventh inning. Dannty Mateo drew a walk and moved to second on a wild pitch. A two-out RBI double by Michael Antonio drove in Mateo. Goforth got the final out of the inning to maintain the 2-1 lead. Goforth left after the seventh inning. He walked two and struck out five before turning it over to the bullpen. The Rattlers tacked on a pair of runs in the top of the ninth. Wisconsin had runners at second and third with two outs and Stang sent a grounder behind the third base bag. The ball was fielded cleanly by Antonio. Then, he turned and fired to first as his momentum carried him into foul territory. The throw to attempt to get the speedy Stang was low and bounced away from the first baseman and both runners scored on the throwing error for a 4-1 lead. Kevin Shackelford pitched a scoreless eighth and a scoreless ninth for Wisconsin to pick up his third save of the season. The Timber Rattlers continue their road trip with the start of a three game series at Clinton on Saturday night. Wisconsin right-hander Eric Semmelhack (0-0, 12.00) makes his first Midwest League start. The LumberKings counter with lefty Jordan Shipers (4-4, 3.76). Game time at Ashford University Field is 6:00pm. Tune in for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM or timberrattlers.com starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 5:40pm. WP: David Goforth (8-5) LP: Bryan Brickhouse (2-3) SAVE: Kevin Shackelford (3) TIME: 2:30 ATTN: 10,133 Wisconsin Box Score The Timber Rattlers completed a series sweep of Kane County, behind another strong pitching performance, this time from David Goforth. He went 7 innings and gave up just one run on two hits. I've seen a lot of Goforth this season and it seems like when he gets hit hard, it's usually just been one bad inning that gets him. There was no such inning tonight. Kevin Shackelford pitched the final two innings, allowing just one walk to get his third save of the season. Cameron Garfield and Ben McMahan led the way for the T-Rats offense. Garfield was 2-3 with a double and two runs scored. He also knocked in a run and was hit by a pitch. McMahan went 2-4 with a triple and also scored two runs. He has now hit in 9 of his last 10 games. Michael Garza had a 1-3 night and Chadwin Stang was on base two times with a single and a walk. He also knocked in a run and stole two bases to give him 21 on the season. Final: Wisconsin 4, Kane County 0 Rattlers shutout Kane County, win second straight game Chad Pierce & Michael Strong combine to K 13 in 6-hit shutout By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GENEVA, IL - Chad Pierce struck out eight over seven scoreless innings for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in a 4-0 win over the Kane County Cougars at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark on Thursday night. The eight strikeouts sets a professional single game high for the Fond du Lac native and gave the Rattlers their second straight win. Ben McMahan put the Rattlers (59-42 overall, 15-17 second half) in front in the top of the fourth inning. Greg Hopkins doubled with one out and moved to third on a groundball. McMahan singled to left to drive in Hopkins for the 1-0 lead. Kane County (50-52, 16-16) threatened to at least tie the game in the bottom of the seventh against Pierce. Michael Antonio drew a walk and Alex Llanos was hit by a pitch. Both runners were bunted into scoring position. Pierce got the next out on a shallow fly ball to right field, but needed help to get out of the frame with the lead intact. Kevin David sent a ground ball that was headed for centerfield and a two run single. Rattlers shortstop Yadiel Rivera made a diving grab of the ball behind second base, got to his feet, and fired a strike to first to beat the Cougars catcher by a half step to end the inning and keep the Rattlers up 1-0. The game did not stay 1-0 for long. Rivera started the top of the eighth with a single. Chadwin Stang drew a walk. Max Walla was called on to bunt and good things happened for the Rattlers. Cougars reliever Mike Giovenco fielded the ball and fired wide of first base. By the time the ball got back to the infield, Rivera and Stang had scored and Walla was standing on third base. Later in the inning, Nick Ramirez singled to knock in Walla for a 4-0 lead. Pierce was done after the seventh. He surrendered three hits, walked two, and hit a batter over his seven scoreless innings. In his last four starts, Pierce has allowed three runs over 28 innings. Wasn't sure where to put this, since there hasn't been an official transaction yet I didn't put it in that thread, but feel free to move it. Wisconsin catcher Tyler Roberts is done for the season. He tore a ligament in his wrist on the last road trip on a play at the plate and had surgery on Monday.

Final: Wisconsin 5, Kane County 2 Wisconsin stops five game losing streak Timber Rattlers score five runs in second inning and beat Kane County 5-2 By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GENEVA, IL - Matt Miller tossed eight solid innings and the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers scored all the runs Miller would need in the second inning in a 5-2 victory over the Kane County Cougars Wednesday night at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark. The win ended Wisconsin's five game losing streak. Kane County (50-51 overall, 16-15 second half) scored first with a little small ball. Justin Trapp singled, stole second, and moved to third on a ground out to the right side by Jack Lopez. Danny Mateo singled to drive in Trapp for a 1-0 lead. The Rattlers (58-42, 14-17) stormed back with five runs in the top of the second inning. Nick Ramirez doubled with one out. Mike Garza drove in Ramirez with a single to tie the game. Wisconsin loaded the bases when Lance Roenicke was hit by a pitch and Rafael Neda singled. Yadiel Rivera put the Rattlers in front with a run scoring fielder's choice. Chadwin Stang was next and he cracked a 2-run triple to right-center to put the Rattlers up 4-1. Max Walla followed with an RBI single to left and the Rattlers lead moved to 5-1. Miller took that four run lead and ran with it. He worked around a few base runners and kept the Cougars from scoring again until the seventh inning. Kenny Swab singled to start the inning, but needed a two-out triple from Trapp to score and cut Wisconsin's lead to 5-2. The Cougars would get no closer. Miller went back out for the eighth inning and retired Kane County in order. He allowed two runs on six hits, walked one, and struck out four to pick up his eighth win of the season. Tyler Cravy worked around a leadoff single in the bottom of the ninth inning to toss a scoreless frame to close out the Cougars and pick up his second save of the season. Game two of the series is Thursday night at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark. Chad Pierce (3-3, 3.64) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Kane County sends Kyle Zimmer to the mound. Offensively, Wisconsin got a 2-4 night from Max Walla, who also walked once and stole a base. Rafael Neda also was 2-4. Chad Stang had a triple and two RBI. Nick Ramirez doubled, but also struck out three more times. Greg Hopkins continued to struggle since his return. He was 0-4 tonight and is now just 1 for his last 22. Final: Great Lakes 2, Wisconsin 1 (13 Innings) Wisconsin falls 2-1 in 13 innings to Great Lakes By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and Great Lakes Loons made their final meeting of the season memorable. The teams engaged in a pitching duel that lasted into the thirteenth inning. The Loons pushed a run across with two outs in the thirteenth for a 2-1 win. Three Timber Rattlers pitchers held Great Lakes to seven hits and recorded fourteen strikeouts. Seven Loons pitchers combined to strikeout 21 Wisconsin batters in the game. Great Lakes (47-50 overall, 13-14 second half) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Darnell Sweeney singled to left to send Pedro Guerrero home from second base. Timber Rattlers starting pitcher Chad Pierce would retire the next twelve batters in a row and gave up one more hit over his seven innings of work. The Fond du Lac native walked one and struck out five. The Rattlers (57-39, 13-14) tied the game with a run in the bottom of the sixth. Great Lakes starter Duke von Schamann left the game after Jonathan Lucroy's two out single moved Adrian Williams to second base. The Loons went to left-hander Danny Coulombe to face left-handed hitter Nick Ramirez. The Rattlers won this battle and Ramirez lined a 2-2 pitch to right and Williams beat the throw home with a dive into home plate. The bullpens took over from there. Wisconsin reliever Michael Strong pitched four scoreless innings and struck out nine batters without allowing a walk. The Loons used five relievers after Coulombe and they strikeout sixteen. At one point of the game - the final out of the eighth through the final out of the eleventh - three Great Lakes relievers (Juan Rodriguez, Matt Shelton, Mike Thomas) struck out ten Rattlers batters in a row. Wisconsin had an opportunity to close out the game in the bottom of the twelfth inning. Greg Hopkins and Ben McMahan singled to start the frame against Thomas. But, Thomas escaped with popped up bunt and a pair of strikeouts. The first two Loons were retired in the top of the thirteenth, but a four pitch walk put Pedro Guerrero on base. James Baldwin, who had been 0-for-4 with four strikeouts on the night, lined a double down the left field line to drive in Guerrero with the go-ahead run. Chadwin Stang would reach on an error to start the bottom of the thirteenth inning, but Jose Dominguez recovered to get the last three outs and finish off the game. Friday's game concluded a tight series between the teams. Two of the three games went to extra innings and all three games of the set between the Rattlers and Loons was decided by a single run. The Timber Rattlers begin a three-game series with the Lansing Lugnuts Saturday night. Both teams won their respective divisions in the first half. The Lugnuts have the best record (63-33) and the Timber Rattlers have the second best record in the Midwest League this season. David Goforth (7-4, 5.11) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin. Anthony DeScalfani (7-3, 3.26) is set to start for the Lugnuts. Game time is 6:35pm. Lucroy went 1-for-3 on Friday night as he caught six innings in the second game of his minor league rehabilitation assignment from the Milwaukee Brewers. He is scheduled to be the designated hitter for all of Saturday's game against Lansing. The band 1st Degree will perform a pre-game concert outside the stadium from 5:00pm to 6:30pm and the Timber Rattlers - in conjunction with Cumulus Broadcasting - are holding a Coats for Kids Drive. Final: Great Lakes 4, Wisconsin 3 Loons take game two of series Rattlers commit four errors in 4-3 loss to Great Lakes By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers were sailing along with a 2-0 lead in the sixth inning Thursday night at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. But, the calm waters turned extremely choppy as the Great Lakes Loons scored three unearned runs in the top of the sixth and went on to defeat the Rattlers 4-3. Wisconsin (57-38 overall, 13-13 second half) went in front early. Chadwin Stang tripled with one out in the bottom of the third inning. Brandon Macias followed with a single through the drawn-in infield to score Stang for a 1-0 lead. The RBI was the 48th of the season for Macias. Yadiel Rivera knocked in another Wisconsin run in the fourth inning. Ben McMahan drew a two-out walk and Cameron Garfield followed with a single to extend the inning. Rivera would drop in a single down the right field line for a 2-0 lead. Rattlers starting pitcher Matt Miller cruised through the first 5-1/3 innings, but ran into trouble as the Wisconsin defense committed three errors in the frame. The first error occurred after Miller struck out Darnell Sweeney. The ball bounced away from catcher Rafael Neda and a throw to first was needed for the second out. But, Neda threw wildly to allow Sweeney to reach. Jesus Arredondo trickled a hit-and-run single through the left side of the infield to put runners at the corners. Miller got the second out of the inning on a pop out to shallow left, but the third out was elusive. O'Koyea Dickson sent a sinking line drive to left that skipped to the wall for a single, and error, and two runs scored to tie the game. Dickson, who took second base on the play would score as Scott Schebler singled to left on the next pitch and the Loons had a 3-2 lead. An odd play in the top of the seventh gave the Loons (46-50, 12-14) a 4-2 lead. James Baldwin singled and stole second. He was on second with one out when Joe Winker sent a deep fly ball to right field. Outfielder Ben McMahan made the catch against the wall, but stumbled a bit. As McMahan tried to get his footing, the speedy Baldwin raced for the plate and would score from second on the sacrifice fly for a 4-2 lead. Wisconsin rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning as Lance Roenicke singled and Stang doubled to put runners on second and third with no outs. Macias sent a grounder past the mound that looked like it was headed for center. But, Arredondo made a diving stop and threw to first in time to get Macias. Roenicke scored on the play, but Stang could only take third base on the play. He would be stranded when the inning ended. Roenicke would reach on a one out single in the bottom of the ninth inning, but the Loons held off the Rattlers with a pair of strikeouts to end the game. Game three of the series is Friday night. Fond du Lac native Chad Pierce (3-3, 3.86) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. The Loons will counter with Duke von Schamann (2-0, 2.53) as their starting pitcher. Game time is 7:05pm. Milwaukee Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy started Thursday's game at catcher and went 2-for-3 with a double. He left, as scheduled, after the bottom of the fifth inning. He will return to the Rattlers starting lineup on Friday for game two of his scheduled four game rehabilitation assignment. Final: Great Lakes 4, Wisconsin 5 (10 Innings) Mac Attack! McMahan blasts game-winning homer in tenth for Rattlers Wisconsin beats Great Lakes 5-4 in ten innings By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GRAND CHUTE, WI - Ben McMahan drilled a two-out solo home run in the bottom of the tenth inning to propel the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers to a 5-4 win over the Great Lakes Loons Wednesday night at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. McMahan also drove in the tying run with a double as Wisconsin started a six-game homestand with their ninth 'walkoff' win of the season. Nick Ramirez put the Rattlers (57-37 overall, 13-12 second half) on the board in the first inning. The slugging first baseman cracked a two-run homer that landed on the beach beyond the wall in right-center for a 2-0 lead. The homer was the tenth of the season for Ramirez. But, the Loons (45-50, 11-14) rallied back with two runs in the second and two more in the third off Rattlers starting pitcher Chad Thompson. Pedro Guerrero tied the game with a two-out, two-run double in the second. Joe Winker put Great Lakes in front with a one out triple to drive in a run in the third. A single by O'Koyea Dickson made it 4-2. Wisconsin went to the bullpen in the fourth inning and Jacob Barnes responded to the call. The right-hander scattered six hits and struck out six over 6-1/3 innings to keep the Loons at four runs. Cameron Garfield brought the Rattlers to within a run with a leadoff home run in the fourth inning. There were two outs and none on for Wisconsin in the bottom of the sixth when Ramirez drew a walk and Greg Hopkins singled. McMahan tied the game by pulling a 1-0 pitch inside the third base bag for a double into the left field corner to score Ramirez with the tying run. Barnes left the game after getting Darnell Sweeney to bunt foul with two strikes with a runner at first in the top of the tenth. Lefty Stephen Peterson replaced Barnes and retired the next two Great Lakes batters - both left-handed hitters - to set the stage for McMahan in the bottom of the tenth. Matt Shelton, the fifth Loons pitcher of the night, retired the first two batters in the bottom of the tenth. Then, McMahan jumped on the first pitch of his at bat against Shelton and lined it over the wall in left-center for his eighth home run of the season. The blast was the third 'walkoff' home run of the season for the Timber Rattlers. Game two of the series is Thursday night. Matt Miller (7-6, 4.29) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin. The Loons have Greg Wilborn as their starter and he will make his first Midwest League start. Game time is 7:05pm. Final: Wisconsin 4, Fort Wayne 7 Fort Wayne holds off Rattlers By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers FORT WAYNE, IN - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers trailed 7-2 heading to the top of the ninth inning on Monday night at Parkview Field. The Rattlers scored two runs and had the tying run at the plate, but the Fort Wayne TinCaps held on for a 7-4 win. Wisconsin wrapped up their six game road trip to the Eastern Division with a 3-3 record. Tyler Stubblefield hit a solo homer with one out in the bottom of the first inning to put the TinCaps (44-50 overall, 13-11 second half) in front 1-0. Cameron Garfield got the Rattlers (56-37, 12-12) back to even with a solo homer in the top of the second inning. Wisconsin took the lead in the third inning. Chadwin Stang doubled with one out and took third base on a wild pitch. Lance Roenicke drove in Stang with a sacrifice fly to left for a 2-1. But, Fort Wayne rallied to take the lead in the bottom of the third inning. Felix Cabrera singled and Travis Jankowski doubled to start the inning. Mike Gallic drove in Cabrera with a grounder to short to tie the game. A two-out double by Yeison Asencio sent Jankowski home with a run to put the TinCaps in front 3-2. A single by Duanel Jones capped the inning and made it 4-2. Cabrera would homer in the fifth inning and the TinCaps lead was pushed to 5-2. Fort Wayne added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Mike Gallic singled in Jankowski from second with one out. Gallic would steal second and be on the move to third base on a pitch to Asencio. Asencio sent a grounder to second for the second out, but Gallic never stopped runner and beat the throw to the plate for a 7-2 lead. The Rattlers batters went without reaching base from a one out walk to Garfield in the fourth inning to a leadoff double by Roenicke in the ninth. Then, the Rattlers scraped together a rally to bring the tying run to the plate in the ninth. Brandon Macias followed the Roenicke double with an RBI single, his 47th RBI this season. The Rattlers would load the bases with one out on an error and a walk and the TinCaps went to Matt Stites, their closer with the tying run coming to the plate. Mike Garza drove in Macias with a fielder's choice after a force out at second base to get the Rattlers to within 7-4. But, Stites got a strikeout to end the game. Final: Wisconsin 8, Fort Wayne 2 Goforth and Garza lead Rattlers to victory By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers FORT WAYNE, IN - David Goforth tossed eight solid innings and Mike Garza drove in four runs to pace the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers to an 8-2 win over the Fort Wayne TinCaps Sunday afternoon at Parkview Field. The win let the Rattlers end a brief two game losing streak. Wisconsin (56-36 overall, 12-11 second half) had the bases loaded with two outs in the top of the first and Garza drove in a pair of runs with a single to center. Garza, the 20th round pick of the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2012 draft, had struggled in his first seven games since joining the Timber Rattlers. He had been 3-for-33 with no RBI in his first week in the Midwest League. Goforth retired the first two batters in the bottom of the first inning. But, a two-out double was followed by an RBI single by Yeison Asencio to give Fort Wayne a run. The TinCaps (43-50, 12-11) scored again in the bottom of the third inning. Kyle Gaedele doubled with one out and Jace Peterson drove home Gaedele with a two out single to tie the game 2-2. Goforth didn't allow anything after that run. The score remained tied until the fifth inning. Lance Roenicke, who had singled with one out, was at third base with two outs. Ben McMahan snapped the tie with a sharp single to center to score Roenicke for a 3-2 lead. The inning probably should have ended on the next batter. Nick Ramirez hit a popup to shallow left field, but a combination of the wind and poor communication by the Fort Wayne fielders allowed the ball to drop in for a single and sent McMahan around to third base. Garza made the most of the opportunity and drilled a double into the left field corner to score two more runs with a double. Max Walla made it a four-run rally with an RBI single and the Rattlers had a 6-2 lead. Wind had nothing to do with the next hit by Ramirez. The Rattlers first baseman crushed a 2-2 pitch to right-center for his ninth home run of the season in the top of the seventh inning. The solo shot put the Rattlers up 7-2. Roenicke doubled in the ninth and scored on double by McMahan for Wisconsin's eighth run. Goforth made the longest start of his professional career with his eight innings on Sunday. He didn't walk a batter as he scattered eight hits and struck out three. The win was the seventh of the season for Goforth. Game three of the series is Monday night at Parkview Field. Mark Williams (5-6, 3.56) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Frank Garces (5-4, 2.55) is set to start for the TinCaps. Game time is 6:05pm. Final: Wisconsin 3, Fort Wayne 4 TinCaps score two in ninth to beat Wisconsin By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers FORT WAYNE, IN - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers were the victims of a walkoff loss for the second night in a row. The Fort Wayne TinCaps scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to spoil a very nice outing by Rattlers starting pitcher Chad Pierce for a 4-3 victory Saturday night at Parkview Field. Travis Jankowski, who had two RBI in the game, drove in the winning run with a bases loaded single. The Rattlers (55-36 overall, 11-11 second half) rallied with two outs in the top of the first inning to grab a lead. Brandon Macias was hit by a pitch for the sixteenth time this season to get on with two away. Ben McMahan drilled a double to the gap in left-center to send Macias all the way home from first base for a 1-0 lead. In the second inning, Mike Garza scored from third on a wild pitch to extend the lead to 2-1. Fort Wayne (43-49, 12-10) got a run in the bottom of the second inning. Duanel Jones singled to start the inning, moved to second on a wild pitch, and took third on a fly out to right. An RBI grounder by Lee Orr got Jones home and cut the Wisconsin lead to a run. The teams traded runs in the fifth inning. Macias doubled to left-center and Max Walla raced home from first base for a 3-1 lead in the top of the frame. Fort Wayne came back in the bottom of the inning on a leadoff double by Kyle Gaedele, a sacrifice bunt by Felix Cabrera, and a sacrifice fly by Jankowsi for their run. After that, Pierce shutdown the TinCaps through the eighth inning. The Fond du Lac Wisconsin native pitched a professional high eight innings, struck out four and left the game with a 3-2 lead. He scattered five hits and walked two. Kevin Shackelford, who tossed three scoreless innings and picked up a win on Wednesday at Lake County, came on to pitch the ninth and gave up a leadoff double to Jones. Austin Hedges was next and his single to left put runners on the corners. Shackelford got ahead of Orr 0-2, but the TinCaps first baseman lined the next pitch through the middle of the diamond to drive Jones in with the tying run. A sacrifice bunt by Gaedele moved the both runners into scoring position and Wisconsin responded with an intentional walk to load the bases to set up a double play. But, Jankowski smacked the first pitch of his at bat into right to knock in the game winning run. Less than 24 hours earlier, the Timber Rattlers lost 7-6 in walkoff fashion in a 15 inning game at Lake County. The Timber Rattlers have won eight games on walkoff hits at home. But, including Saturday's game, opponents have eight walkoff wins over Wisconsin. Game two of the series from Parkview Field is Sunday afternoon. Final: Wisconsin 6, Lake County 7 (15 Innings) Captains edge Rattlers in 15-inning marathon Lake County spoils Walla's big night By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers EASTLAKE, OH - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers rallied from a 5-1 deficit and held 6-5 twelfth inning lead over the Lake County Captains at Classic Park on Friday night. But, the Jordan Smith drove in the tying run in the twelfth and the winning run in the fifteenth to defeat the Rattlers 7-6. Smith, who drove in three runs on the night, spoiled a big night for Rattlers outfielder Max Walla. Walla went 4-for-7 with two homers and three huge RBI for Wisconsin. Lake County (41-49 overall, 10-11 second half) took the lead with a first inning run. Rattlers starting pitcher Matt Miller issued a four-pitch walk with two outs to Luigi Rodriguez. Rodriguez would get into scoring position by stealing second base. Smith singled to left to score Rodriguez for a 1-0 lead. Tyler Roberts tied the game in the top of the fifth inning. The Timber Rattlers designated hitter lined a 1-0 pitch from Mason Radeke to the bleachers in left field for his fourth home run of the season. The solo shot tied the game 1-1. But, the tie did not last long. Patric Tolentino hit a leadoff homer in the bottom of the fifth inning to push Lake County back in front. An error, a stolen base, and a two-out RBI double by Francisco Lindor gave the Captains another run for a 3-1 lead. The Captains plated two more runs with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Back-to-back RBI doubles by Tolentino and Todd Hankins put the Captains up 5-1. The Rattlers (55-35, 11-10) pulled closer with single runs in the seventh and eighth innings. Yadiel Rivera drew a leadoff walk and went from first to third on a wild pitch in the seventh inning. He scored on a second wild pitch in the inning. Walla lined a home run to left to start the Rattlers eighth inning and Lake County's lead was down to a pair of runs. In the ninth, Rivera walked and Roberts doubled to start the inning and put runners on second and third with no outs. Lance Roenicke entered the game as a pinch runner for Roberts. Adrian Williams grounded out to first to get Rivera home. But, Roenicke was still at third with the tying run with two outs in the inning. Walla got Roenicke home with a two-out single to left to tie the game 5-5. The score was still tied with one out in the top of the twelfth inning. Walla stepped into the batter's box and step up again. He lined another opposite field home run to left to put the Rattlers in front 6-5. It was the first lead of the night for the Rattlers. But, the Captains took advantage of a defensive miscue in the bottom of the twelfth to tie the game. Francisco Lindor reached on an error to start the inning. A sacrifice bunt moved him into scoring position. Smith would line a 2-0 pitch to center to send Lindor home with the tying run. Lake County had the winning run in scoring position in the twelfth, thirteenth, and fourteenth inning, but could not break through with the winning run. In the fifteenth, Jose Ramirez blooped a double into center. An intentional walk was issued to Lindor. A passed ball with Luigi Rodriguez moved both runners into scoring position. So, another intentional walk was issued to load the bases and bring Smith to the plate again, But, before Smith could bat, the Rattlers brought Walla in from right field to play first base and set up a defense with five infielders and two outfielders. Smith would send a soft fly ball to left field. Ben McMahan, the Timber Rattlers leader in outfield assists with nine this season, made the catch and fired home, but a tad off target. Ramirez made a headfirst dive to the infield part of the plate and avoided the tag to score the winning run. The Timber Rattlers continue their road trip when they start a three-game series with the Fort Wayne TinCaps at Parkview Field on Saturday night. Chad Pierce (3-3, 4.05) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Rattlers. Fort Wayne sends Matt Wisler (3-4, 2.42) to the hill. Game time is 6:05pm CDT. Does anybody know why Scooter didn't play in either of the games for Huntsville tonight? Did he get dinged on that 9th inning play at the plate on Wednesday night?
