  1. Although, comparing football and basketball to baseball is like comparing apples to oranges. The presence of a clock kinda kills any effective scoring comparisons that one could make.
  2. It'll probably be covered in the article, but what's 'Monte Carlo simulation' about?
  3. Well crap, now I look quite the fool. But in the end, I guess I'm glad that I know that they're there somewhere.
  4. So they actually exist? I thought I had looked everywhere for them.
  5. I don't recall the last time that we had a thread discussing food, and I like food, so I'm starting one. So, I recently came to the realization that they don't serve cheese curds (neither fresh nor fried) at Miller Park, which is frankly an abomination. They've got beer, they've got brats, so why not cheese? It's kind of a Wisconsin staple, and it seems like it should be something that Sportservice would be capable of providing, so it's kinda surprising that there's nothing of the sort. Anyways, feel free to bring up any other food-related comments, complaints, etc.
  6. This is kinda already mentioned in the non-Brewers IGT, but I'm gonna let it slide for now. So make me proud and turn this into an interesting discussion.
  7. You wouldn't rather type all the stats/ratings into a spreadsheet? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  8. I'm a little confused, as in the past 18 games, Jenkins has a .344 AVG, .391 OBP, .719 SLG, and 6 homers. That seems like a bit of a hot streak to me.
  9. The Pirates one is almost as good as the Reds. BucsDugout.com: Jack Wilson Like the Pirates themselves, Jack Wilson is consistent, unjustly well-compensated, and not nearly good enough. For fielding a 69-win team with a suspiciously small payroll in 2006, Major League Baseball rewarded the Pirates with $25 million in revenue-sharing; for fielding grounders and posting a .299 on-base percentage in 2005, the Pirates rewarded Wilson with a $20 million contract. By 2006 winning percentage, the Bucs were the fourth worst team in the big leagues; by 2006 OPS, Wilson was the majors' fourth worst regular shortstop. In any given year, the Pirates are mediocre at best, and yet the ownership appears to be satisfied with that; Wilson, meanwhile, is also mediocre at best, so maybe it's appropriate that the organization treats him like a star.
  10. ...and present an unnecessary distraction for motorists.
  11. RedsReporter.com: Juan Castro The face of the Reds franchise in 2007 is without a doubt utility infielder Juan Castro. He sucks. And the Reds have sucked for a long time. There is little redeeming about Castro as a player, just as there is little redeeming about a Reds franchise that seems adrift these days, with no clear plan of how to pull themselves out of the mess that has been the past seven years. The Reds have had plenty of players on their team the past few seasons that have no business being on a major league roster, but Castro is the worst, and he's the greatest example of why things are looking pretty bleak in Cincinnati these days. Beautiful.
  12. One thing that bugs me about the game is the complete inability to hit doubles; you could hit a frozen rope right down one of the foul lines and the outfielder is gonna pick it up before it gets to the wall every time, and I can barely hit anything remotely near either of the power alleys. In addition, I haven't been able to tweak the settings so that it's remotely realistic yet; can't find any happy medium between a slugfest and a game consisting entirely of weak infield dribblers, and by way of pitching it'd probably be easier for me to throw a perfect game than have a pitcher get more than 5 strikeouts in a game. And it's pretty much impossible to stay out of debt in owner mode. But, it's still a great game and I long for 2012 when EA can have a chance at reviving the MVP series.
  13. Someone mentioned it here a while ago, but the best look-alike for Turnbow is Boober Fraggle.
  14. Test. EDIT: I dunno, works fine for me without clearing my cache.
  15. In case anyone cares, that's a proboscis monkey that Turnbow resembles.
  16. The vast majority of this team's core is going to be around for the next couple years; I'd rather not potentially turn Yo into a sacrificial lamb so that we can reach the playoffs now, especially when we'll likely have chances the next few years.
  17. Let's hope something happens soon, 'today' isn't going to be around much longer.
  18. Gotta go with Uecker on this one.
  19. Two threads of the exact same topic + One anal-retentive Fan Forum Director = One thread is getting closed. And since the other one has more recent responses, this one gets the short straw.
  20. Rick Auerbach? You oughta be ashamed, Casey. http://www2.jsonline.com/sports/brew/image/yount2/kuenn715.jpg
  21. Looks like we're not getting first place back tonight.
  22. MLB.com bugs the hell out of me. • It has a ridiculous amount of Flash and glitzy crap, at the expense of basic functionality. • They made Gameday so complex and heavy, that it uses up a disgustingly large portion of the CPU. I just want an up-to-date play by play of what's happening. I don't give a crap about pitch trajectories, or fancy animations, or that obnoxiously imposing ad in the bottom right corner. • They apparently don't care about their message boards whatsoever. If I worked for MLB in any respect, I would be ashamed to have something so shoddily managed as that to be associated with me. • The Gameday Audio subscription is sketchy as hell. When purchasing a subscription, they give you 14 issues of Sports Illustrated for free. Handily, there's a automatic renewal system for Gameday Audio so that you don't have to worry about purchasing it again when it runs out. Shadily, this renewal system appears to also apply to the SI 'subscription' as well. So, when your 14 free issues run out, SI automatically signs you up for a full year, using the credit card info you provided for the Gameday Audio. And unless you send an email to some vague address saying that you don't want them helping themselves to your money, this will happen again and again every year.
  23. Unfortunately, Casey, I didn't really bring any of it with me this summer. I'll see what I can do to honor my namesake.
  24. SeriesFinale, we'd prefer that they all be localized here so that we can admire them and bask in their praise more easily.
