  1. They're showing Moustakas at second trying to turn double plays. He's really awkward right now, not with his foot work, so much, but with his arm angle throwing to first. I hadn't thought about this, but he's throwing like a third baseman, still. Khris Davis hit another home run.
  2. I don't expect the Ryan Braun of 2011-'12, but we have to like what we've seen of him, thus far. I just saw the home run, and that thing was absolutely crushed. The power is clearly still there. From memory, his exit velocity last year was within his career and peak norms. Assuming he can play 125-130 games this year, which I think is doable if the thumb doesn't flare up again, is 25-30 home runs unreasonable to expect? His BAbip of .274 last year was 57 points below his career average.
  3. "Intentionally walking a guy with three home runs? That's not right! That's not classy baseball"-- 20,015 Cardinals fans right now. Good. Screw Goldschmidt.
  4. Yadi would have blocked that. And would have saved a choking victim between the ball bouncing in the dirt, and catching it.
  5. Yadi is such a great individual. Why, when he's not on the field making everybody in the park better, he's working on a cure for cancer, kissing babies, and brokering lasting peace in the Middle East. Barf.
  6. Now they're fluffing Yadi for being a....god, well, basically. Cain was safe, idiot. Stevie Wonder could have called it.
  7. These two guys calling the game for the Cardinals tv are just insufferable dbags.
  8. You've got to be freaking kidding me. Three home runs for Goldschmidt. We did nothing to improve our pitching staff in the off season, and it's going to bite us in the butt.
  9. Chacin matches up talent-wise with Hill and maybe Ryu. Not Buehler or Kershaw. He was put in a tough situation tonight where he would have to pretty much be perfect. He wasn't, and a monkey wrench was thrown in the plan for tonight. You can have the best pen in the world, but you still have to start someone. Agreed.
  10. Maybe if batters were proficient in situational hitting, strikeout rates would be lower? We get a guy on base, and Brewers hitters come up there trying to knock the ball into the seats. When they fail to do so, they whiff at pitchers six inches above the strike zone, or bouncing in the dirt (see Moustakas and Aguilar). Adjust the approach like Anthony Rizzo did against us in the one game playoff. Behind in the count, I think it was 1-2, with a runner on base, he choked up on the bat, sacrificing the home run in order to foul pitches off, and force the pitcher to throw him what he wanted. When was the last time a Brewer bat came up to the plate with that kind of approach? Rizzo ultimately fouled 8 or 9 pitches off, and while I don't recall what he did, he worked the count, and increased the pitcher's pitch count in doing so. If he's successful, his team scores. Even if he just makes contact, and doesn't reach safely, he moves a runner over, which is a hell of a lot more than a strikeout does. If nothing else, the pitcher on the mound is out of the game that much sooner. We look at metrics, and say, "this doesn't make sense". Well, if batters attained a more team friendly approach at the plate, strikeout rates wouldn't be what they are. Aguilar whiffed four times tonight swinging at crap that a high school batter knows to lay off of.
  11. So Machado is an elite bunter then? Good to know. Musta been one of those "extremely rare" cases.
  12. I've been optimistic that we could improve since I went to my first home game in 1979. At what point does the annual optimism just fall by the wayside? At some point, a franchise has to win. Instead, we've had decades of "wait until next year". I'm tired of people feeling the need to blow sunshine up my butt. We can spin all we want, but every year, we lose the last game of the season, and it's become incredibly deflating.
  13. You're right. That second run, giving the Dodgers a 2-1 lead, instead of making it a tie game, had nothing to do with Counsell pulling Chacin, and going to Hader in the third inning. Being behind, instead of being in a tied game, had nothing to do with the batters pressing at the plate. In fact, I don't know why hitters ever try to bunt a batter over into scoring position. Just go up there swinging away from now on, guys!
  14. Our Milwaukee Brewers, perfectly summed up in one agonizing gif. http://williamgregory.net/images/charlie_lucy.gif
  15. If I'm Craig Counsell, I'm pulling the team out of the dugout while the Dodgers are celebrating, and making them watch it. Then, I'm handing every hitter a bat...pitchers, too, and we start working on bunting until the sun comes up. I learned how to bunt in little league, and the fact that this team can't advance a runner to save their life is embarrassing for a bunch of Major Leaguers. It's a bunt that made the first home run a 2-run blast, and not a solo shot to tie the game. And it was Manny Machado, a Hall of Fame caliber power hitter that did it. Think Aguilar, or Shaw, or Moustakas could do that? LOL. This team needs to go back to the basics. You cannot go up there hacking at every pitch at your eyes, or bouncing in the dirt, hoping to jack it over the wall. And that happened way, way, way, way too much in this series.
  16. Yep ... 2-1 or 5-1, doesn't matter. You can't generate offense, you lose. The pitching carried this team this far. The offense choked in this series. I can blame Jeffress. 2-1, the Brewers still feel like they have a fighting chance, and the crowd is still in it. 5-1, the crowd is silenced, the air is sucked out of Miller Park, and the team is dejected. There's a world of difference between being one swing of the bat from tying it up, and needing a grand slam to tie it (because we really suck at small ball, for the most part). Jeffress serving up a gopher pitch to Puig was the knife in the back. And he's done it time and time again. If I'm a Brewer player, I don't know if I can look the guy in the eye in the lockerroom. Hes put them behind the 8-ball too much.
  17. One game at home to get to the World Series for the first time since 1982. What does the offense do? 1 run scored. 7 hits. No walks. 14 strikeouts. Pathetic. Sorry, just pathetic.
  18. 4 strikeouts from Zeus. Not the kind of thunderbolt I was hoping for. Well, now we get to watch the Dodgers celebrate in Miller Park. So we've got that going for us.
  19. Ok, so home runs from Shaw, Aguilar, Moose and a game tier from Kratz....epic comeback coming.
