  1. I'm guessing Tomlinson plays and Zeitler is inactive. If Zeitler gets two practices and the team decides he's already better than Jacob Monk, then the organization can get dumped on even more for thinking that Monk was an NFL starting caliber RG entering the season.
  2. Jayden Reed out for the year. Have to wonder if this will turn out to be a career-ending injury.
  3. Morgan/Tomlinson/Rhyan/Zeitler/Belton is definitely nothing to get excited about. Tomlinson has always been a short-area mauler, very limited player when it comes to movement. He was actually named to the Pro Bowl once, never really could figure out how that happened (probably the same reason Keisean Nixon was a Pro Bowler), but he's always been average at best. Zeitler was top-notch five years ago, but he is somewhere in average to below-average territory now. But one thing for sure, if these two old guys aren't totally beat up to the point where they can't play...then they are still an upgrade over Jennings and Monk who can't play and Burton who can't play YET or who can't play NFL guard and should be a center (time will tell).
  4. Silverstein missed the estimate on Zeitler as the deal is reported to be 4.05 million, below the 6-8 million speculated, but he was right in that Zeitler didn't sign for a measly, near-minimum salary money. Adding Tomlinson to the roster was easy, because they had a corresponding roster move in putting Tom on IR. I'm interested to see who's out when Zeitler is added. John Williams seems to be the most likely candidate, but Donovan Jennings is older and was such a disaster that it wouldn't surprise me if he was the guy who is out. Becton could wind up at RT, as suggested by patrickgpe. However, I get the feeling that the league, Packers included, are looking at him as a guard only at this point. I think Belton gets a long leash and Becton is only a RT option if Belton is poor over the next 4-5 game stretch. Obviously, an injury would also open the door for playing time. Travis Glover still might be their best third tackle option. If Glover is the one who is released when Zeitler is added, then I'm wrong about Becton and he probably is added to the roster in a week to be the third tackle.
  5. The Journal-Sentinel is reporting that the Packers brought in Kevin Zeitler for a visit. However, Zeitler made it clear that he has no interest in playing for the league minimum, or anything close to the league minimum. The number is not out there, but Silverstein is speculating (though league sources) that the number is probably in the 6-8 million range.
  6. So there are all these still photos and video clips of 3 offensive linemen blocking 1 guy and other defenders just running free at the QB and/or RB. I haven't heard any mention of who is making the line calls up front? Who is doing this? 90% of the time it is the center, but there are times when a guard does it. I would assume that Rhyan is the culprit here, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone corrected me and it was actually Monk. Whoever it is, maybe that is the first guy that should be replaced.
  7. Right now, the Packers probably see Jennings/Burton at LG as the weakest spot on the line. However, when Aaron Banks can play, then they probably see LG as the strength of the line (ouch!). So Tomlinson is probably LG while Banks is out, but when Banks comes back then they will have to figure out RG which could be Monk or Tomlinson or Becton. Despite having all the physical tools to play tackle, Becton crapped out at tackle and I think most probably see him as a guard moving forward...and that probably includes the Packers. There is always the possibility he could bounce Morgan or Belton from tackle because the raw size and ability is there, but if that happens it would just scream that Morgan or Belton is really bad. It's just a complete mess.
  8. I'd probably say that too if the practice squad guys are just as good as the guys on the 53 man roster.
  9. I'm really surprised Tampa Bay went with Jalon Daniels as their backup quarterback. As far as a passer, he really does not look ready to play in the NFL. The guy has athletic talent, to me is an ideal candidate to stash on the practice squad for a couple years and coach him up. I could see him just being over-whelmed as a passer at this stage of his career. Maybe I am under-rating him, they did have Jake Browning in camp and elected to go with Daniels, so that says something. Nonetheless, I would expect the Bucs to put Daniels on the move a lot. Lots of "look at option one, then option two, and then just tuck it and run." One thing that really helps them is they picked up Kenny Gainwell as a backup running back, who I thought showed really well in Pittsburgh last year. No doubt they have some pass-catchers there and I see Packer "visitee" Ted Hurst has a 40 yard catch last week.
  10. The Packers defense is allowing 4.1 yards per carry, which ranks 17th in the NFL. They are allowing 7.3 yards per pass attempt, which ranks 19th in the NFL. They have 2 takeaways, which is tied for 23rd in the NFL. They have 7 sacks, which ties them for 11th in the NFL but is part of a big cluster (9 teams, ranking from #11 to #19). They have allowed 4 plays of 40+ yards, which ties them for last in the league. I would say the strength of schedule so far is pretty average. I think the Vikings are pretty good despite the problems at QB, Jets are likely to be bad and the Falcons are maybe average...who really knows at this point with them? So if we go by a letter grade scale where C is average, when looking at the statistics and the opponents, I'd say C- for the Packer's defense so far.
  11. Seems like a lot to me as Michigan State went to Notre Dame and lost by 17, but I thought they would give Nebraska much more of a tussle. It doesn't sound like they were competitive in that game at all.
  12. Michigan State took a thorough beating at Nebraska last weekend. Wisconsin opens a big 10 1/2 point favorite.
  13. Vikings get a 5th round pick for JJ McCarthy. Normally I would laugh at them, since a top 10 pick (that they traded up for) turns into a 5th round pick. But in this case, the Vikings just got a 5th round pick for what might be one of the worst players in the NFL. Teams WANT to play their high draft picks, and this guy gets shuffled down to 3rd string and the Giants still see 5th round value in him?
  14. I fear it may be too little too late for Fickell, There is a new sheriff in town, and no doubt he will want to hire his own head coach. We'll see how the Badgers progress. I don't want to take anything away from them, a Big 10 road win is a Big 10 road win. But at the same time, we don't really know how good Penn State are. They may just be a glorified Iowa State this year. But again, if Wisconsin goes on the road and beats Iowa State, that's a pretty solid victory because Campbell turned them into a respectable program.
  15. Nice to see Iowa take down the Michigan fraudsters.
  16. It's just too bad, because when I look at this team, and even factor in the sub-par head coach, the roster as a whole still looks something that could range anywhere from 10-7 to 8-9 depending on how difficult the schedule is and how many breaks you get along the way. Unfortunately, there is one unit that is just so bad that it will sink this entire ship. Gutekunst showed gross incompetence last year with the cornerback position, and he has shown gross incompetence this year with the offensive line. Morgan could not beat out Rasheed Walker (by all measures, a below average starting LT), and he is handed the starting spot because he was a first round pick. Banks was hurt and awful last year, but he got another chance because he was given a bad contract and the GM hopes to redeem himself. Despite Rhyan getting benched last year, Gutekunst extends him in an off-season with a plus center free agent class and a plus center draft class. Jacob Monk has preseasonS of disaster, and Gutekunst believes in him because he played well in a meaningless end of season game where the opposition was really only interested in getting on a plane and flying to wherever their summer home is. I can understand being willing to roll with Tom and Belton at right tackle. Belton played a bit last year, and if Tom goes down, Belton needs to step up. If he doesn't, you have one spot you have to fix. Gutekunst maneuvered himself into a position where he has five spots to fix. That's gross incompetence.
  17. Penn State lost a huge chunk of their team and had played a complete joke schedule so far, so it was hard to tell what the Badgers were going to get. But for some reason, earlier in the day, I got the feeling this would be a total blowout (probably a by-product of the humiliating Packer loss). I'm impressed they are only down by 10. Of course, they could come out in the second half and do what they did against Notre Dame, but we'll see about that.
  18. If the Packers stay on the current trajectory, and the Patriots show that last year was not a fluke (and we'll see, they have not convinced me yet)...it will only be a matter of time until Mark Murphy is dragged into the LaFleur/Gutekunst/Policy blame equation. He is the guy who hired Brian Gutekunst, when Eliot Wolf was in-house and wanted/interviewed for the General Manager position. It will be interesting to watch the Packers and Patriots moving forward.
  19. Packer fans see value in Wyatt because, for a couple years there, he was the only interior DLman they had who had plus-pass rush skills. They weren't going to ever get that from players like Karl Brooks or Colby Wooden. Take an interior pass-rush out of the equation makes it much easier for the opposition. My big problem with Wyatt can be summed up as- % of snaps played on defense- 2022 = 21.68% 2023 = 49.68% 2024 = 33.24% 2025 = 33.84% Injuries or whatever, hard to be a great player, or even a really good player, if you are not contributing because you are not on the field for 2/3rds of all snaps. And for those that think that defensive lineman rotate, so what should you really expect from a good interior defensive lineman? Kenny Clark's last three years in Green Bay = 2022 = 78.12%, 2023 = 72.91%, 2024 = 62.99%. And last year with the Cowboys in his age 30 season = 67.57%
  20. Coach thinks there are five quarters. That's why they normally have so many problems at the end of games. Thankfully, they didn't have to worry about that tonight.
  21. Love, Watson and Golden piling up the garbage-time numbers.
  22. I have to own up. I thought this would be an easy victory for the Packers. My prognosticating skills are clearly diminishing with old age. Despite that, I did predict that this offensive line would suck, but predicting that was as easy as predicting the sun will rise in the east tomorrow morning,
  23. I defintely would not blame LaFleur or any of the offensive staff (including Butkus) for that offensive line. That is 100% on Gutekunst.
  24. ESPN now has the Falcons with 500 yards of total offense.
  25. Penix completes the big 68 yarder and the QB rating is up to 95. Now I feel better.
