  1. I did post a few spots up on the reason why I think Greinke is gone, but isn't it fun to speculate on the possibility? Greinke has a high opinion of Milwaukee. Melvin has a high opinion of Greinke. I can't see Greinke going to certain high-paying markets because of their in-your-face media attitude. Perhaps the "business decision" was a gentlemans agreement to get some prospects for Greinke while this season was dead in the water and for Greinke to come back in the off-season. Probably not, but fun speculation none the less!
  2. How, financially, could the Brewers achieve this? Braun, Weeks, Hart, Gallardo and Ramirez count for over $46 million in payroll next year. Zack said no to 5 years, $100 million. If he said yes, that would be $66 million to six players. Nineteen other roster spots would have to be filled with $13.75 million to sustain an $80 million payroll ($723,684 per player) or $23.75 million to sustain an $90 million payroll ($1.25 million per player). Considering we have a serious bullpen deficiency and rotations questions (with or without Greinke), I don't see how the Brewers could put anything but the Houston Astros around that group of players.
  3. I've been following Chris Capuano's career and now with Sheets and his comeback, I'm glad for both of them, but also a little bitter.
  4. Looks to be a nice haul. Can't ask for much more than 3 top-10 prospects out of a system for a potential rental. It's always depressing trading one of your top guys. While I don't see the Brewers as full season contenders in 2013, I think Attanasio will allow Melvin to be aggressive enough in the offseason for them to be entertaining. Hopefully this franchise becomes better at developing pitching talent so we don't have to strip our farm system for arms like we did for Sabathia, Greinke and Marcum.
  5. It's always interesting to hear that the Brewers couldn't sustain a $100 million payroll when they have a $100 million offer for Greinke on the table. If Greinke would have taken the offer, an $80 million payroll would be out of the question and a $90 million would be very, very tough. Greinke at $20 million per would have the Brewers on the hook for $66.25 million for 6 players in 2013 (Greinke, Braun, Gallardo, Weeks, Hart, Ramirez). Hart would be off of the books after 2013 but the rest would receive raises in 2014. Can't fill 19 other roster spots with $13.75 million to have an $80 million payroll. Attanasio plays his finances close to the vest. The Brewers obviously could afford more than you think.
  6. I miss Phil Garner
  7. I agree Greg. Maldonado is amazing defensively with a rocket arm and has shown a small sample size of being able to handle the bat. I think you have to continue to get Maldonado at-bats to see just how he'll grow offensively. If that's in Triple-A then so be it. If Maldonado proves he can be consistent with the bat I would be all for Lucroy learning First Base.
  8. There have been 3 recent sales on Ebay for uncut World Series ticket sheets, all for the 1964 Phillies. Those sold for $39.99, $46.00 and $20.50.
