  1. If this was really a planned PR move, wouldn't there be an official announcement "Watch for your personal phone call from Ryan Braun"? He didn't even want any filter, or staging, which is pretty unusual for a PR move.
  2. If your pitches can be that far off in a 12-1 laugher, for the safety of everybody involved, you shouldn't be pitching
  3. I agree. ESPN is terrible. Anything that hits the news is a PR move? I do not believe there could be any Milwaukee fan that could reasonably complain about a personal call from Ryan Braun. Basically, any hardcore Brewer ticket buyer gets to voice their beef and opinion right to him. At this point critics are just being unreasonable. Are any of the other suspended players doing this? Doubtful. I like hearing about the calls, though. I just hope there aren't too many hotheads trying to berate him.
  4. I really can't see any rationale of going after a ball like that with 2 outs on a full count. Even if he hit it, it wouldn't have been productive. If it were somehow a strike, hats off.
  5. That last swing at a ball in the dirt pretty much sums up the season.
  6. Actually, the guy was pretty funny with the "just a bit outside" crack on Henderson.
  7. Do Pirates fans come all the way to Miller Park to whoop it up? Another blown game by the bullpen. The same old story.
  8. As long as Francisco is there, Yuni will be splitting time with him. Neither of them are collecting many hits lately. However, Yuni is probably due for his warm up in September after another cyclical cold spell. Splitting time will probably also prevent injury to either of them until the end of the season. There is no other first baseman prospect ready to be grooming for the position. Hunter Morris had been struggling too badly. Mat Gamel is presumably still out of the picture.
  9. The problem with most media people are that they don't seem to understand the important reasons for people not to take interviews or answer pointed questions. They feed on "popular" opinion to make their stories grow. They automatically assume that any person, who is honest and truthful, should be inclined to answer any question. In reality, for most people, there are generally more good reasons not to engage the media than to do so even if you have nothing to hide. It looks to me that most of us are in agreement that Braun shouldn't be doing anything outside of getting ready for next season.
  10. The trio of Axford, Gonzalez, and Badenhop has to be the worst bullpen combination in major league baseball right now. Absolutely putrid.
  11. Axford is absolutely infuriating. Bottom line, his play simply loses us games. Even worse are the statistically-minded defenses of keeping this bum on the team.
  12. I don't think that whether he lies now or not makes any difference. This is like being upset over an ex-girlfriend coworker who cheated on you 2 years ago. Its pointless to still be upset. She can say whatever, truth or lie, but who cares? As long as she still does a good job and it doesn't interfere with your work.
  13. Unless replay starts evaluating real time balls and strikes, the most frequent errors made in the game, its not even worth talking about.
  14. Just because PED's may have helped a couple handful of players, who were good enough as it was, there are probably even more players that it didn't end up helping. I don't care about the lies, or coverup, or even an apology. People lie and coverup all the time. Its part of life. Politicians live by it. I don't care about the use of PED's, as all kinds of substances result in enhancement. He just happens to use one of the banned substances. Come back after the penalty, and play better next year.
  15. The simplest and easiest way to do this would be one simple rule: If no one is on base, the batter cannot step out of the batters box, and the pitch must be delivered within 15 seconds. I came up with the idea of a pitch clock last homestand. It starts when the umpire signals the ball "in play". He will call this as soon as the pitcher gets the ball, or while the catcher has it and isn't getting it back quickly. This stops the defense from delaying the game. It counts down starting from 25. The pitcher can start his delivery any time after it reaches 20. The pitch is valid whether the batter is in the box or not, but he is still out if he hits it while out of the box. If the timer reaches 0, the ump calls a ball and immediately restarts the clock. It would change the pace of the batter/pitcher match up, but quickly speed up the overall game. Frankly, I think it would just mean more throws over to first base anytime a man is on, and a catcher asking for time to either adjust, tend to an injury, or talk to the pitcher. I don't know how you can realistically prevent a batter from calling for time when something is bothering him, asking for a new bat, or confirming signs with the 3rd base coach. I also believe that a player should be able to leave the batters box if the pitch is going to hit him there.
  16. Horrible in his last 9 games, and I am not saying his is the best arm in the pen, but arent you the guy who has been defending Yuni? In June, Yuni went 19-100 and had 4 walks with(since I know you care about this particular stat so much) 2 homeruns. Even the best players have a bad stretch. Two unrelated players which should be judged separately. The dread and utter game self-destruction that comes with an Axford appearance is far worse than anything Yuni has done, even with his defensive blunders. Plus we're paying Axford 5 million. Yuni is just a part time utility man. Who in the bullpen is worse than Axford? Burgos?
  17. I can't believe that Axford gets a hold and a loss for that game, according to the ESPN stat sheet. Really? A hold? One out and basically sealing our doom that Gonzalez started? Ugh
  18. What about windmill Ed Sedar? If I see another guy run to third when the center fielder already has the ball in his hand, I'm going to lose it. So true. Its hard to find any Brewer fan who hasn't seen Ed Sedar send our baserunners into a firing squad more than a dozen times. The time when he made Schaeffer turn around steps away from home plate should have solidified that firing.
  19. Agreed, but the Brewers can't figure out what they're doing with Thornburg. He was starting at AAA, then they bring him up and pitch him 7 games from the pen. Then they have him starting. You want him to go more than 5 or 6 innings? He has to start on a consistent basis. You can't have him go from pitching an inning for a few weeks, then tell him to go out and throw seven innings. You don't do that to young arms. The Brewers have nobody to blame but themselves. Then you might as well send Gonzalez and Axford out there in the first inning, and start Thornburg with a 3 run handicap in inning #4. His starts have been pretty consistently been sabotaged by the bullpen. I'd rather have the sabotage out front and center.
  20. The Axford apologists are running out of excuses. He hasn't had any run of scoreless inning play to brag about lately. 9 runs in the last 8 games.
  21. Reducing exposure to the bullpen is the key. Every inning you can keep guys like Axford and Gonzalez out of is a good inning. These guys destroy good starts.
  22. I doubt the Brewers want to play extras here. They are exhausting the bullpen as it is. Just go home.
  23. This happens to Thornburg every outing. The guy needs to learn to at least go through 7. He's not going to get a win going 5 or 6.
