  1. The Brewers showed up big. The game thread posters did not. Season run differential from -60 to -50 in one game.
  2. I like Doug Russell a lot, and he probably should have a bigger role on the radio right now. I remember seeing him out at Woodmans last year after having to leave WSSP and doing Yahoo sports. I would favor seeing him take over play by play on TV instead of Coshun. He always does a good job in the spots he does on TMJ right now. Unfortunately, I can see the Brewers feeling like they owe Coshun a spot for sticking with them so long. Joe Block has grown on me. He's not as dry as he was last season, and he tends to bring a lot up more stories and topics than he did before.
  3. TV broadcasters doing the play by play often only stay around for 5 years. An ex player like Schoeder or a (HOF'er like Jim Palmer) will stick around for a while as the color guy. So Anderson had been around plenty long to warrant packing up for somewhere else with a more lucrative offer. Most likely he will just take every gig he can get and coordinate. I saw the Brewers get a ranking of 21 of 30 MLB team broadcasts from 2012. The comment was as follows (http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1146624-mlb-tv-power-rankings-ranking-every-mlb-teams-announcers-heading-into-2012/page/11) Anderson does a good job with the play-by-play but does have a tendency of being distracted at times when discussing off-baseball topics with Schroeder. He uses a lot of historical references to add to the broadcast. Schroeder provides good analysis but tends to take a back seat to Anderson. The Coshun/Schroeder pairing does an adequate job as well. The complete body of work of this broadcasting crew is slightly below average. It definitely leaves hungry Brewer baseball fans wanting more taste and less fill.
  4. The problem is, the time of your life when HGH is highest (as a youth) is actually the least likely period for developing cancer growth. As we age and our HGH levels drop, our cancer risk significantly increases. I am sure there is a particular level of HGH that is optimal for overall health that probably is best supplemented as we age.
  5. Seems somewhat like apples and oranges. People who have had Tommy John surgery faced a pre-mature career ending injury. Taking PEDs that help you perform better and/or recover from an injury quicker is not quite the same thing. PED's can certainly extend a potentially career ending injury in many cases. A juiced-up hitter still has to apply his other skills to take advantage of the additional strength. Tommy John surgery involves grafting a tendon which is not normally there and instantly replacing a tendon that normally degrades over time. In the same way, he still has to make use of his skills to take advantage of the additional stability. Why do you think there was a rash of parents wanting their kids to get premature Tommy John surgery to throw harder?
  6. So I imagine what pitching would be like without Tommy John surgery? One third of the league's pitchers has had the surgery. Performance enhancement is so jaded against PED's, without a lot of merit, it is absolutely ridiculous. Cheating is all in the eye of the beholder. MLB would have you believe Tommy John surgery "saved" baseball, but PED's are ruining it. Funny that you can prove actual performance enhancement in baseball with TJ surgery, and nobody knows what specific enhancement PED's actually does, yet PED's are what is against the rules.
  7. Axford never showed enough consistency this year or last to develop any value for other clubs. I couldn't have seen any contending club in their right mind acquiring Axford for a closer or set up role. Right now he's only somewhat decent as a middle relief guy at times, and certainly replaceable. I think he's in the twilight of his career at this point.
  8. Post all star break, his OBP/AVG is .324 and OPS .919. 5th best on the team in that stretch. One reason why he's still playing is that he has been reasonably hot as he was to start the year. Managers always play with the hot hand.
  9. Melvin picked Yuni over Donnie Murphy, who isn't doing very well in Miami, in spring training. "I've talked to Donnie Murphy and told him there would probably be no opportunity for him on the big-league club." "Yuni can come in and back up the three infield positions, give us a bat off the bench. He's got more experience than Donnie and we thought that's important." "He loves to play the game and do whatever he has to," Melvin said. "I see his bat coming off the bench. He has a first baseman's glove now. He can fill in if we have an injury. He's a veteran guy who can go in and fill in those spots and we don't have to DL a guy when you've got a guy like Yuni. He's still a very good player. We were fortunate to get him here at the end of spring training." I believe I've heard Attanasio speak highly of Yuni as well on the air as well and he certainly had no objections to the signing. So, its not just Melvin and Roenicke. Closer to the team and the situation, they all obviously see things differently than the complaining fans.
  10. How many bench players do we have with a .300 obp right now? Davis and Gindl are the only ones.
  11. But you're qualified to make these calls because you simply looked at his HR total and decided that he's a good option for the Brewers? Not only this year but going into 2014? If Yuni B is on this team in 2014 I will be highly disappointed. I think the Brewers will be able to replace his 13 homeruns relatively easy, and do it on the cheap. I don't get to make the calls by any means, and never claimed to. Melvin and Roenicke do. They are qualified, and they decided he was a good option. If they decide to bring him back or not for 2014, I'll support their decision because they have the tools to analyze and judge his value. 13 home runs (assuming Yuni has no more HR) from one bench player will not likely happen for cheap IMO. Maybe between 2 or 3 bench guys. .
  12. Yuni hits for power. There is no AAA guy waiting in the wings getting blocked who is going to be as versatile and put up double digit home runs as Yuni's replacement. Scooter Gennett? Jeff Bianchi? Blake Lalli? Sean Halton? They have all had their chances, and aren't proving to be much better. It has nothing to do with veteran loyalty. It has to do with putting a healthy guy out there with major league experience that can play the role day in and out. Even Roenicke has been quoted “Yuniesky Betancourt is better than our in-house options.” People who think they can manage a team using a "Baseball reference" website and watching from the sidelines wouldn't understand that.
  13. Which is why it might be time for the Brewers to get new evaluators. Trotting this guy out there on a team going nowhere is completely embarrassing. As opposed to trotting him out there on a team in contention such as in 2011? He actually produced pretty well in the playoffs. If the team is going nowhere this year, it shouldn't be embarrassing at all. How can you embarrass a last place team? If the Brewers had anything to lose this season, then I could see someone reasonably complaining about a questionable player. As it stands, Yuni is not a major reason why this team is in last place. Yuni never can win. If he produces, its a fluke. If he slumps or makes mistakes, its "same old Yuni". Imagine if Yuni went through a "Craig Counsell" type slump. Even through Yuni hits more home runs in a season than Counsel does in 5 years, Yuni would be completely lambasted.
  14. When it comes down to it, if Yuni were truly the worst player there is and replaceable by anybody, it would have been done already, both back in 2011 and now in 2013. He's obviously passing multiple evaluators eye tests to be in a major league uniform and getting playing time.
  15. Yuni is one of those hot and cold guys. However, the guy can hit homers. This year he hits a homer every 24.8 AB. Ryan Braun was one every 25 AB this year. Carlos Gomez hits one every 21.9. The guy obviously needs to work on several facets of his game, but he won't get there riding the bench all the time during a lost season., regardless if fans want AAA players taking his place. Stat nerds love to goof on Yuni, but Melvin knows that the guy has inherent value in being versatile and having some power. Both the Brewers and Royals have brought him back, so the GM's know more than the haters.
  16. Apparently, someone defending Betancourt good play lately somehow excuses Axford's season long struggles. No one play or one game defines how unreliable and disappointing Axford has been. Even in this game alone he gave up 3 hits, 2 runs, a wild pitch, and only recorded 1 out. This is far from the first time we've seen Axford lose games for us this season
  17. Look out. Love or even mild respect for Betancourt is outlawed around these parts. Regardless, expect Melvin to have Yuni on the bench next year at a cheap price.
  18. Says the guy who was defending Betancourt earlier. And how bad did Betancourt do today? 2 for 4, 2 RBI
  19. Well...that is simply...wait for it.......not true. 4 earned runs in July in 12 or so appearances, and 0 in June. Is the axford hate fully deserved? That's what a quick search yielded anyways. Not really very good. 12 appearances that resulted in 9 1/3 innings of work, 10 hits, 4 runs, and 166 pitches. 2 blown saves. A guy who is supposed to make a living on strikeouts with 7 strikeouts for the entire month. If K-Rod put up those kind of stats, nobody would have traded for him. Unfortunately, Axford apologists such as those on TMJ4, tend to exaggerate every scoreless outing he has and minimize every blown game he produces.
  20. And there's the typical quick turn from a lead to an instant loss compliments ol Blowford once again. Without K-Rod, there's nobody to close things out.
  21. Its good to know that Axford is still as worthless as ever.
  22. I believe Yuni was 4 for 5 just a couple days ago. Go figure people are already out for blood after a couple of bad games.
  23. The talk does begin to be a little tiresome. Braun is not the first person to be disciplined for substance use, and he won't be the last. He's not the first person in public to ever lie about anything either. We have had plenty of players with a history of being punished for use playing on the Brewers, and we will have plenty players in the future. Don't act like Milwaukee is too good to have Braun playing in their organization.
  24. How many people get paid millions a year because of benefits of speeding, cheating on spouses, or drunk driving and then lie to the people who basically pay their salaries about our actions? Well, anyone with a high priced job, i.e. doctors, lawyers, CEO all are paid with assumptions about a particular kind of behavior and decorum requisite to the profession. Plenty of these people are doing underhanded, illegal things in their professions on top of it.
  25. I think most people are a bit hypocritical of others on a pedistal, but hide their own dirty laundry.. How many people in Wisconsin have driven way over the speed limit, cheated on their wives or girlfriends, or driven a bit drunk, or cheated for a few answers on a test, and then lied to others that they never have. Nothing Braun did was heinously illegal or horrible.
