  1. I posted this in the other thread also, but maybe target both Escobar and Dozier from the Twins. Both guys for Ortiz and a warm body or two. Also target either Stroman or Archer, preferably Stroman. Offer Phillips, Supak, Diplan. That clears 3 spots on the 40 man this offseason while getting us much needed help right now.
  2. Rosenthal mentioned that one team(he suspects the Brewers) inquired about getting both Escobar and Dozier. We certainly are the most logical team to target both. Would you all give up Ortiz for both guys? The Twins need pitching bad, the only way they combine both is if they get a better prospect back than either guy would get individually. I think most of that value is for Escobar as he'll be more coveted, and I doubt Escobar would get someone like Ortiz on his own.
  3. I'm a fan of Nottingham down the line and the idea that if nothing else, he should be a low OBP/high power guy, but I am not sure if Nottingham is going to be much of an improvement on offense the rest of this year or next year over what we've gotten out of Pina, et al. He's much better all around than Kratz. We really could use 2017 Pina right about now though. I've also noticed Bandy is looking pretty good in AAA, we definitely need to get rid of Kratz immediately...whether it's for Realmuto or an internal option.
  4. It's a shame Villar will be hurt for this series, with all the lefties. I think we'll see a lot of Perez this series. I also hope we call up Santana if Braun doesn't come off the DL. It's going to be tough to find starts for Thames though against all these lefties, though we definitely should start him at least once.
  5. I agree with that plan. Braun will/should play 120 games for the next 2 years if he doesn't have a significant injury. He's hit into some bad luck for parts of this year and the last month or 2 last year...but he's one of our best hitters. Until Jesus's breakout, he was our very best hitter...at this point I think Jesus might be better, but so many on this board wildly underestimate Braun's ability when healthy.
  6. I'm not sure why I go look at other teams boards, man alive. I just went to a Twins board, and some guy posted wondering whether packaging Dozier and Lynn could get them Freddy Peralta. Maybe we should try sending a decent player and a bad contract for their best prospects...
  7. I agree with almost all of this except for the latter part. The QO situation could blow up in their face like the Moustakas situation did for the Royals, but the Twins could absolutely just ride it out with Dozier and then get him on the QO. Yes, you lose the leverage of the comp pick in trading him next year, but the Twins do not want to go into another rebuild and have an extremely low payroll next year. I may not fully grasp all of the risk/reward here, but I could also see them standing firm that they'd keep him and offer the QO. That's fair I suppose. Also if he doesn't accept and no team wants to give up the pick, they could get him for cheap...similar to the Royals with Moustakas this year. I still think it's safer to trade him for someone with team control next year. Leaves them more flexibility in the offseason.
  8. Dozier is a rental, Dozier had a poor first half, the Twins are way out of contention, there are very very few contenders with a need at 2b. These are all reasons the Twins aren't going to get a big return for Dozier. The argument that he's better in the 2nd half has some merit, but no GM is going to assume a 950+ ops in the 2nd half. If that was a blanket assumption, the Twins would get close to the Manny package despite the minimal market. I think Dozier goes for what the Twins deem to be a bit better than a comp pick. But, keep in mind the Twins probably don't want to risk Dozier having a bad 2nd half and accepting a qualifying offer...they couldn't afford that, making them that much more inclined to make a deal. Also the Twins have a lot of good pieces, so I don't think they look to rebuild...moreso retool for next year. Maybe someone like Houser interests them if they want an arm. Targeting any of our 5 or 6 best pitching propsects is dreaming.
  9. Plus I'd imagine that Dozier's salary probably would push the Dodgers' luxury tax situation (not sure how close they are now, but has to be getting there). MM deal had no money going over, so you're right...they are likely very very close to going over. I doubt they have more than $1-2 million of wiggle room.
  10. Above all else, look at the potential suitors. For a 2b only, very few contenders have that need. We won't have much competition, and as has been noted...Dozier is slightly better than at least 4 or 5 other pretty good options that we know of. I suspect us and the Indians would be the primary suitors, and that's only if the Indians give up on Kipnis(which I doubt). Outside chance the Dodgers look at Dozier, but I doubt it with just getting Machado...with him, they already have the very good problem of getting all their good bats enough playing time.
  11. That return for Barraclough and Dietrich seems really light to me. Elite RP's with team control get elite returns, there's no one of a Mejia caliber in the deal you mentioned. Dietrich is under team control until 2020, so he also would bring a much higher return. Dietrich is a mediocre defender at best wherever he plays and is in the upper 700s OPS with 2 relatively expensive years of team control coming. We don't really have a need for corner OF or 3b, so I'm not sure why he's a target or why we'd be willing to give up much for him. Barraclough an elite reliever? You may want to look at something besides ERA when determining that. BABIP .158...no way that stays close to there. His career has been much closer to 290/300. Velocity and k rate are the lowest of his career. Hard contact rate the highest. He was never much more than an above average reliever and only his ERA is playing above that. He has a lot of team control, but so much is trending down that I have no interest in paying a premium for all that team control.
  12. This in particular made me cringe. That looks like an absolutely dreadful deal for us.
  13. The primary driver in the return for Dozier will be his market. I don't see many teams in need of 2b. Cleveland is the only team that jumps out at me with a potential need there, but do they really give up on Kipnis? Dozier is a logical fit for us. He'll certainly cost more than Walker, I suspect we wont have to offer much more than a comp pick value to get him.
  14. People are giving up wayyy too much for Dozier. That's closer to a Machado offer than a Dozier rental offer. Jones seems pretty fair but he's got a WHIP of almost 1.40 and has been really lucky this year. Plus he may not be back before August. Stroman seems like a nice buy low right now but he's been so bad this year he may not help much for this season. Stroman, that's about what I'd expect to pay if he was performing well...not now with his stock way down. Jones probably doesn't cost that much. He'd be a rental and not that much different from probably a dozen other available relievers. Supply/Demand probably puts his cost similar to Swarzak last year. Maybe Broxton straight for Jones or someone like Tyrone Taylor. Yeah Dozier...he's a rental that isn't playing well. I'm not sure I would completely bank on a big 2nd half. I know he's done it the last 2 years, but that's far from a guarantee. That cost is probably about 70-80% of what Machado got. There also aren't a ton of teams that need a 2b only guy. Maybe Cleveland if they punt on Kipnis. Maybe Philly I guess but they'll probably target someone for SS or 3B. I'd honestly look at Eduardo Nunez and Lucroy's 2017 deal as comps for what Dozier might be able to get...and it isn't much.
  15. I find it a bit odd that they have both Hand and Miller, considering RH pitching is probably more valuable in the AL than NL. Not as many LH sluggers as RH. Correa, Altuve, Judge, Stanton, Better, Martinez, Trout, Cruz...these will be the guys the Indians potentially face in the playoffs.
  16. Mejia didn't fit well with the Indians given their catching situation. I figured he would inevitably move, I just thought it would be for something besides relievers. This is actually a pretty good fit all around.
  17. Crazy to see 2 players given up for the 1 prospect. Interesting trade, very bold move by the Indians.
  18. I actually wouldn't be surprised to see Santana brought back up right out of the break with the injuries we are dealing with. Both Braun and Thames currently hurt, if Santana is hitting better he's a better option than Phillips or Broxton. Arcia I think stays put as we give Saladino more regular playing time while looking for upgrades. Arcia could simply get stuck in AAA until September depending on the acquisition we make.
  19. I tend to agree it's underwhelming beyond Diaz. I like him a lot, but some scouts think he might end up being a tweener type. Not enough speed for CF, not enough pop for RF. As for the others, I actually am very underwhelmed by Bannon. He's doing what he's doing in a very hitter friendly California league and as a 22 year old in high a. It's almost as if they sent him there to mash so they could trade him this offseason. I like Kremer much more than Bannon. I also think Pop is a significant contributor in an mlb bullpen.
  20. You'd have to give odds, that's a sucker bet for anybody picking Merrifield. The guy is a decent player with team control, not really someone you want playing everyday on a contending team.
  21. I think it is only light if you are assuming Corey Ray is the guy from last year not the one turning the corner in a big way this year and if you think Meideros is the guy from two years ago not the guy this year who has had some top level games and if you think Brown is not what his numbers suggest Right, those would be good targets in any trade as all 3 are having very good years. I've always been high on Medeiros and his incredible stuff, I hope we don't trade him at all. That package seems very wishful, I'm not interested at that price.
  22. Apparently that Steve Phillips came on the radio, below are some notes I found online regarding what he had to say. I wonder if the Dodgers would completely pull out if they felt like they were being jerked around... "Steve Philips is on am 570 right now, and here's my secretary notes as he's speaking: 1) Orioles got burned by some dude in the 70s, and since then they've been uber thorough re. their physicals (over thorough according to baseball people) 2) Those prospect(s) who didn't pass the Orioles' physical will either get re tested by the O's or diff prospects will have to be included 3) Phillips as Mets GM tried trading Todd Hundley to Baltimore, and the O's management wanted Hundley to come down and take their own physical. Phillips told Baltimore if you guys do your insane physical and claim that Hundley didn't pass, then everyone will know Hundley failed a physical and he'll be untradeable. The Mets traded Hundley to the Dodgers. 4) O's doctors are the most conservative and risk averse team of doctors in the league 5) Angelos is a wild card; deals get done and get sent to him, and Angelos will overrule the baseball people. 6) This deal is on hold, and it could open the door for other teams to get involved. But Manny will get dealt"
  23. I would guess it depends on who the prospect(s) in question is/are. If it's the 4th or 5th guy in the deal, probably a quick tweak and a done deal. If it's with Diaz, then this could be significant. Fair enough. Diaz is generally expendable for the Dodgers, much moreso than Ruiz or other top guys. And I doubt the Dodgers want to include Verdugo if Diaz is a no go. I also believe Diaz had some injury issues this season, I picked him up 2 months ago in my dynasty league and remember him getting hurt.
  24. This is fantastic If David is updating his offer, he's scrambling to find an acceptable substitute for Luis Ortiz. I honestly can't imagine us getting involved at the reported price. The deal probably just needs to be tweaked with the Dodgers. I just posted that because I found it hilarious.
