  1. They need to have guys with options in the 'pen in order to shuffle them back and forth to the minors. The guys we have with options are the guys we don't want to send to the minors. I believe we have knebel, barnes, espino, and hader with options in the pen. The only one I'm unsure on is barnes. Obviously knebel is staying put, ideally hader stays up as well. I have no problem optioning either of the other 2 if they are worn out and cycling in suter/scahill/cravy when he's healthy. We could also cut peralta for wang(another guy who would have options) and DFA drake if needed to freshen up the bullpen. Sure we might lose drake, but i kinda doubt it, and if we did it wouldn't be a major loss. Point being, there are options to keep the bullpen more fresh/prepared than it is currently and we haven't been doing that as much lately. A lot of key guys have gotten some days off recently thanks to Jimmy Nelson and a couple lopsided losses...hopefully that helps get barnes/drake back on track. Torres had the best outing he's had in a while yesterday after a couple days off in a row.
  2. Torres probably deserves a bit longer a leash than Drake does and Milone/Marinez. He was very good for us last year and has had good stretches this year. Milone and Marinez were never good this year. They also surely will give the guys with better stuff more leash. Hence why Peralta has hung around so long, though he should be gone 3 weeks ago in my opinion. A lot of the issue with Barnes, Torres, Drake, etc is likely fatigue. They've been used quite a bit this year. I think Counsell has done fairly well trying to rest guys wherever possible. We definitely haven't been doing as much rotating of tired arms down to AAA over the last month or so as we had early on. If I were making the calls, Wang would take Peralta's spot immediately and Suter would rotate in with Espino in the 8th bullpen spot as needed to help keep the bullpen fresh. I'd give Torres until after the all star break to figure it out, Drake too unless they make a trade before then.
  3. Of the 3, he's had by far the most success over the last month or so. This has me wondering if Braun had a setback and will be an extended look.
  4. Jose Bautista truly broke out at age 29. That's the best example I can think of.
  5. That's kinda been my thought too, the ever-optimistic view for this team entering the season was that the offense would do enough during the regular season to keep us hanging around 500 and we could replace the 1-3 worst starters with Hader/Woodruff/Lopez AND those guys would hit the ground at a full on sprint. That was the only way we could be in the wildcard picture in September, and so far all things are going about as well as could be reasonably expected.
  6. 1. Hader 2. Brinson 3. Erceg 4. Woodruff 5. I Diaz 6. L Ortiz 7. Phillips 8. Dubon 9. Ray 10. T Clark 11. J Lopez 12. T Williams 13. Cordell 14. Nottingham 15. Ponce 16. Burnes 17. Bickford 18. Medeiros 19. Lara 20. M Diplan 21. Gatewood 22. F Peralta 23. Harrison 24. Kirby 25. Feliciano 26. Orimolye Good call on Dubon, pretty glaring error.
  7. Agreed you should call you rep. I got mine the week of the 20th. You almost certainly would have received them by now.
  8. I'm not quite so pessimistic about the bullpen. I thought barnes was a lock heading into the offseason but he's been notably struggling all spring, and with 2 options it seems logical to let him work on things in AAA for a bit. Counsell has been raving about Knebel most of spring, he wouldn't get a demotion in most mlb bullpens much less a likely weaker bullpen. I'm not sure I could find a single shred of legit evidence that would suggest Knebel doesn't deserve a spot in this bullpen. Final bullpen will probably be Feliz, Knebel, Torres, Marinez, Milone, Cravy. From there my guess is either Jungmann or the 6th starter goes to AAA to start and the other remains in the pen. We have at least 3 guys who can easily go multiple innings if needed...plenty of long relief if starters struggle early.
  9. Some of those promotions are fantastic, notably the 5 county discount. Aside from that specific discount, if you want seats in a good location to opening day/weekend/cubs/other premium games it will be far more than 15-25% over season ticket prices...if you can even get them. If you are just looking to go to a handful of weekday games and don't mind bleacher/loge outfield/terrace level tickets, these deals are the way to go. That said, I've been a 20 pack holder for almost 10 years and find the perks pretty good. And when the Brewers get back to the postseason I'll have access to tickets to every home game...which is a huge perk when that happens.
  10. For me, the easiest way to figure out how many guys we actually have room for was to figure out who is virtually guaranteed a spot on the 40 man(barring a trade or injury) and put the rest of the reasonable 40 man candidates onto a list to choose from. Guaranteed 40 man spots C - Lucroy, Maldonado IF - Bianchi, Gennett, Halton, Morris, Ramirez, Segura, Weeks OF - Aoki, Braun, Kh. Davis, Gomez, Gindl, D'Vo, Schafer SP - Gallardo, Lohse, Peralta RP - Gorzellany, Henderson, Kintzler, Sanchez, Wooten P - Estrada, Hand, Hellweg, Nelson, Pena, Thornburg 40 man candidates Bats - Ke. Davis, Francisco, Gamel, Green, Hart, J. Rogers, Lalli, Prince, Arms - Arnett, Axford, Badenhop, Bucci, Burgos, Cravy, Fiers, Hall, Heckathorn, Manzanillo, Olmsted, M. Rogers, Shackleford, Figaro, De Los Santos Goners - Yuni B(!!!!!), Gonzalez The players in italics are currently on the 40 man, 60 day DL, or restricted list. I also added D'Vo, Morris, and Nelson as locks because well they are locks. So again, barring trade or injury, that's 16 bats and 14 arms on the 40 man with 23 options for the other 10 slots. I don't have a list of 10 guys off the list that I would choose, but I can confidently say that I personally would cross Arnett, Axford, Badenhop, De Los Santos, Fiers, and Jason Rogers off the list and pick from the other 17. That still leaves us with a number of tough choices on who to cut or expose to rule 5.
