  1. Reese Olson going back. That seems steep for Norris
  2. 932 OPS vs RHB 555 vs LHB on the season. He's also been better lately. Since the allstar break he has 5.1 IP with 0 hits, 1 bb, 6 ks.
  3. This makes me think this guy is full of it though. Usually you never know what the Brewers are doing until Rosenthal tweets "X player going to the Brewers". Very rarely do our trades get leaked before they happen. There are two sides to each trade. Even if you believe the Brewers never have leaks come out on their end (debatable) the other side may not have quite as tight lipped of an organization. I'm pretty sure Stearns saw my post and wanted to make me look stupid.
  4. Have the Brewers ever made a multi-way trade(3 or more teams)? I have a hard time seeing us involved on something like this.
  5. At this point, the only position an impact bat would make sense at is CF. So unless we go nuts and grab Buxton, this doesn't make a ton of sense to me. We'll find out in a few hours.

  7. Fine by me. It's the most prudent move we can make anyways in my opinion assuming he has a good season.
  8. I'm growing a bit impatient with no activity on the relief market for the Brewers. Are we really going to enter the postseason with Boxberger as our 3rd best relief arm and potentially Hunter Strickland needing to get outs?
  9. I personally kinda wanted the Padres to do well as a hedge against the Dodgers. It's entirely conceivable that the Giants hold onto the division and the Padres beat the Dodgers in a 1 game playoff. That's truly the best case scenario at this point that doesn't involve the Brewers. It would generally be so much less gross losing the the up and coming Padres than the Dodgers who are more or less the new/better in every way Yankees. That's one opinion anyway...
  10. The very best decision the Dodgers GM made was decide "we are going to use our resources to be the very best team at talent development". Before the Dodgers, the big markets weren't really considerably better if better at all at developing talent than plenty of small markets. I'd argue the mid-market Cardinals were probably one of the top teams at developing players up until maybe 5 years ago. The Dodgers pipeline is so insane, they can trade 2-3 top prospects every deadline and a couple more pop up the next year. And generally they are smart enough at identifying talent to keep the very best players and add them to their loaded roster(Bellinger, Seager, Smith, Lux, Buehler, Urias, May) while trading the guys they don't think will establish in the end. It's honestly a bit disheartening because as long as the pipeline keeps going, along with having more money than Bezos, there's really no reason the Dodgers shouldn't always be one of the very best teams in baseball.
  11. Alcantara is definitely a good prospect that any team should want, but I'm quite certain he wouldn't overtake Mitchell for our top spot. I would guess he would slot in 5th behind Turang, Small, and Perez for us. I was surprised the Cubs did so well on the Rizzo deal. Seemed like a very solid return.
  12. Most of those nationals guys are far too flashy to be something stearns would do. He'll find a mid-small market to make a trade with. I have no doubt we'll leave at least one relief arm of our own. I'm hoping 2
  13. I personally have been looking forward to Bryant and rizzo going elsewhere for a while. Both dudes come off very likeable and passionate about the game, and obviously both very good. They are the type of dudes I'd like if they played for the athletics or indians or really anyone besides the Cubs or Cardinals. It's a bit unfortunate that rizzo around up with the Yankees who you kinda have to dislike by default. But hopefully in 2022 they sign elsewhere and I can enjoy their talent a bit.
  14. Duffy is on the IL with a flexor strain, estimated to be out 3-4 weeks. Interesting move considering. Passan noted they might pitch him in relief, so certainly possible/probable they aren't done adding with this move.
  15. Interesting pivot from Berrios/Scherzer
  16. I find it a bit hilarious, that in their last home game before the deadline and probably less than 24 hours before they get traded...that Bryant/Rizzo aren't given one last at bat. Can't give that to the fans...that's a yikes in my opinion.
  17. Padres close to acquiring scherzer
  18. That is just a thoroughly enjoyable post, well done.
  19. Ryan Pepiot drawing interest for both Scherzer and Berrios. This guy seems comparable value-wise to Small. If this report is accurate, that's a pretty significant return on Scherzer. For Berrios and his extra control I imagine it will be a fair amount more than just Small.
  20. Sounds like Berrios will likely be traded, it's a matter of time and price. Can't imagine the Brewers get involved here.
  21. If this is what relievers cost, we need to get busy. 5th round pick who's 23 and struggling in high A, albeit small sample. I feel a bit bad for the guy, going to probably the worst big market in baseball at developing pitching.
  22. Well if someone, who clearly doesn't have the ability to do your job, publicly backed a truck of manure and dumped it on you while you have been doing a very good to excellent job then you might be less than enthusiastic about their continued input on how to do your job. Gute should be happy. They got what they wanted. They called Rodgers bluff and he came back for the 2021 season. Another year of Rodgers with the current roster to try for a SB. Hopefully Rodgers performs to a level that they need and the Packers can trade him for the best deal in the spring. Rodgers had his say and now can shut up and play. I pretty much 100% echo your sentiments. I'm even fine bringing Cobb back to appease Rodgers for this year. But after this year, I think you cut ties to the best offer. Rodgers will be 38 closing in on 39, trading him now is probably a max value move. Especially considering Jordan Love will probably at least be developed to the point that you can give him controls and see if he's got it or not. And generally speaking, teams with a very highly paid QB tend not to be the teams that win superbowls. Lately it's either been QB's on a rookie deal or Tom Brady on a team friendly deal to allow more cap space for a complete roster.
  23. You're better than that argument. He's a participation trophy all-star. Every team gets one and he's the best choice on a team with really no good choices. 22 HR is a great stat but he's also got a 300 OBP and sub 800 OPS. That's not a stat line that forces his way into the lineup everyday, especially as a mediocre defender. When you have been starting guys like Keston Hiura and Jackie Bradley Jr. regularly, it sure as heck does. This makes the regular, every-day lineup better. There is little doubt there. Hiura hasn't started since 7/20, and JBJ primarily plays CF(a position Escobar doesn't play) in the absence of Cain until recently. Those aren't great choices to drive your point home. And Escobar definitely improves the everyday lineup, no question...but that doesn't necessarily mean he'll be in there everyday. I think it's a relative given that he'll regularly play 1b against LHP assuming he transitions smoothly to 1b. The biggest question comes from how much he plays against RHP. That playing time comes at the expense primarily of Urias/Peterson/Tellez, and i'm not convinced he's significantly better or even a better option than Urias/Tellez. I suspect it's more of a rotation, and mostly between Urias/Escobar with Peterson plugging occasionally but mostly getting the short end of the stick. The biggest value I see from Escobar is a significantly improved bench. We don't miss much of a beat with an infield injury, and whoever doesn't start of Peterson/Tellez/Escobar/Urias on a given day will be the guys taking key at bats late in game versus potentially Shaw/Reyes/Hiura.
  24. I get the Bryant day off more than Rizzo, Bryant has been dealing with some minor injury stuff so it makes a ton of sense for him regardless. Rizzo pretty much plays everyday when he's healthy, which is most of the time. And they'll say getaway day whether they have a trade in the works or not. I tend to think Rizzo is more likely to be dealt in the next 6 hours or so than Bryant.
