  1. You're better than that argument. He's a participation trophy all-star. Every team gets one and he's the best choice on a team with really no good choices. 22 HR is a great stat but he's also got a 300 OBP and sub 800 OPS. That's not a stat line that forces his way into the lineup everyday, especially as a mediocre defender.
  2. It remains to be seen for sure, but I really don't think he'll necessarily start every day. Doing so moves Urias/Tellez into a platoon of sorts between 1b/3b, with Urias playing against LHP and Tellez against RHP. I think Urias is starting to break out a bit and is a better defender than Escobar, I don't know that his playing time will be cut quite that drastically...or at least I don't think it should. As much as this was overall a good acquisition, his numbers don't jump out at me enough that mandates him starting most days over the guys we currently have.
  3. Riley Adams, a 25-year-old catcher who is the Jays' #17 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, is the return. Reading his scouting report sounds kinda like Payton Henry. I get the vibe he's a solid defender behind the plate, which if accurate makes his big league potential significantly higher as a backup catcher.
  4. No Rizzo/Bryant in the lineup today
  5. The return here should offer some idea on the price for relief pitching. I kinda expect Stearns to be patient and go after a guy or two he likes that aren't in the mainstream.
  6. For those who complain about Mark A as an owner...it could definitely be worse. I kinda feel like the Rockies FO/ownership have just no clue about anything.
  7. It's not all that unlikely for 1 of those 4 teams to play 500 ball the rest of the way. Especially considering the 3 NL West teams going to beat up on each other plenty. And 37-24 isn't all that unlikely considering their schedule. They get to play 3 against us, which sounds weird because we're probably tougher than playing the Rockies or something...but they can give us losses by winning those games. Fangraphs has them with the easiest strength of schedule in all of baseball the rest of the way. It's not going to take much for the division race to get interesting. They hit an 8 of 10 stretch and suddenly it's 4-5 games instead of 7. Sure they can make a run but they haven't shown much to make you think they will simply by adding a few relievers. They have been average at home, average on the road, and have a negative run differential. I know their schedule is easy but 13 over in a 60 game span would be very impressive with what they have shown so far. Maybe their rotation will turn it around because that would make that would make the turnaround more likely. The relievers probably aren't enough, but those relievers than then renting Story could really be a game changer for them. I highly doubt they are done with just these moves.
  8. i always tend to feel like the Yankees rip teams off in trades whenever they make one. To the point that it boggles my mind that they actually can get trades done. Maybe his market just wasn't that strong I guess, which seems weird. One thing I notice about the prospects in this trade is they all tend to be doing well at levels much lower than their age should indicate. Duran is 22 and in high A. Smith is 23 and opened in low A, recently moved up to high A. Otto is 25 and opened in AA, only has 2 appearances this year in AAA. Hauver is 22 and in low A. These guys are probably league average or so age-wise, Duran might be a year or so young for high A...but generally good prospects come through a couple years young to most levels. So if some orgs don't notice this stuff, maybe we need to leave Joe Gray back down to low A and trade him next year when he's rocking an 1100 OPS down there.
  9. Against a LH starter, Escobar will be playing 1b. I believe Stearns has come out and said as much. He has no experience at 1b but it sounds like they intend to try him there. Nothing has been explicitly stated besides that as far as I know, but I suspect he'll see some time at 3b as well and probably start a bit over half the games the rest of the way and PH whenever he isn't starting. I know Escobar can play 2b/ss, but Urias is a better defender and would probably take one of those spots if giving Adames/Wong a day off. Even Peterson is probably a better option for 2b than Escobar defensively.
  10. I briefly checked their stats on the year and all are performing well, albeit old for their level. I kinda view this as trading guys like gray/Howell types
  11. I'm liking this tandem thing. I wouldn't mind seeing it game 4 of any playoff series
  12. I'm really looking forward to a player traded to the Yankees refusing to shave. I just kinda want to see how it works out. Maybe this will be the guy that refuses
  13. Just gross, boo the Yankees

  15. Marlins including cash in the deal. Potentially, indicative of what the Brewers will have to pay to acquire someone with a moderate contract. If this is the cost for high end rental position players, I suspect we won't be involved in that market. Probably just find a couple relievers and see what happens.
  16. Luzardo for Marte. Wow. Huge W for Miami.
  17. The Marlins had a decent offense with him really thriving there. This move helps NL East clubs get easier wins for sure, as will the likely additional moves made over the next couple days.
  18. I like the confidence, and I hope you all are right. The Reds have definitely gotten better over the last 24 hours and they probably aren't done getting better. Also DJ could certainly help these pitchers improve.
  19. Yeah if they also add Story, all of a sudden their lineup is terrifying and they could have enough pitching to start rattling off wins.
  20. That would make 3 relievers acquired in the last 12 hours or so. The Reds are going for it.
  21. I haven't seen anyone else post this, but the Sounds are and have been at home, and Ashby last night was on a plane. So either he's getting called back up today orrrrrrrr......
  22. I want to see the Brewers go after multiple relievers at the deadline. I saw something that apparently it's a buyers market on position players, if so it's definitely feasible that we are active on that front. A few guys I have my eye on for the Brewers as far as relievers. Iglesias from the Angels, Bard from the Rockies, Bleier and Floro from the Marlins. The latter 3 seem like typical Stearns type targets, Iglesias if available mostly because familiarity.
  23. Sounds like they are clearing some salary for other moves, says Rosenthal and others.
  24. I had my eye on graveman as a low key option for the brewers. A bit disappointed we couldn't offer a similar package for him.
