  1. Well, Reymin Guduan wasn't picked either, though, and I don't think there are many scouts discounting his stuff. Pretty telling that Stearns didn't elect to pick up him or Teoscar Hernandez.
  2. I think those moves are still a couple years away. Even though they don't have the tools as Gatewood, I have Demuth penciled in at 3rd for Brevard and Matos/Neuhaus splitting time at 3rd for Wisconsin. Neuhaus is only 3 months older than Gatewood, so there is still time for him to develop. And in the case of Lara, I don't know who else would play SS for Helena except for Franley, but he'll probably be in AZ to start next season.

  4. Definitely goes to show the value of pitching. Maybe one player out of the entire 50 had a significant impact in the majors, that being Gallardo. Also interesting that the formatting is dynamic, in that it shows Tony Gywnn Jr as being 32 (!).

  6. Broxton is Axford 2.0. All fastballs, can't count on a secondary pitch to save his life. You'd think this team was done with that...
  7. I agree on not getting too carried away, but in addition to his newly found pop, he is by all accounts an elite defender as well. He was regarded as the best defender in Rockies system and I believe Rick Sweet called him the best defender in the PCL. At the very least, as a 40 man add, he could provide a solid defensive replacement.
  8. I remember the Angel Salome v. Jon Lucroy debate very vividly. And I can admit I was staunchly in the Salome corner. This was mainly because his Huntsville numbers were outright gaudy, but also his coach came on here and sung his praises as the next Johnny Bench. At that time, it was Salome's bat versus Lucroy's defense. Salome had the ultra-quick pop time, but would sail throws. Lucroy could swing it, but maybe not enough to be a full time major league back stop. Just goes to show that even first hand reports can be misleading.
