  1. The Brewers, as an organization, have scored 3 three runs today...
  2. Is there something going on with Barnes? Looks like Hall got hung out to dry.
  3. Evaluating any trade by ignoring half of the equation is incongruous. And putting a value on three teenagers who've pitched less than 10 innings combined this year is extremely premature.
  4. Nothing to do with Lind...just the return it got. It was a very weak return(for any trade). On a value scale it was probably a 2/10. Not saying Lind was worth more than that, but one can't deny the return was very little. So do you trade Carter for some total unknowns or do you hold off hoping for better? Pretty low risk to take that gamble. Aaron Hill has a higher OPS than Lind right now.
  5. Seem to be missing quite a few names. Williams, Leal, Gainey, Terry, Cotto, Neda and I haven't seen Kohlscheen with an assignment yet. I was somewhat expecting those first six to all be in BC.
  6. 1 Orlando Arcia 2 Jorge Lopez 3 Brett Phillips 4 Josh Hader 5 Trent Clark 6 Jacob Nottingham 7 Cody Ponce 8 Isan Diaz 9 Kodi Medieros 10 Devin Williams 11 Clint Coulter 12 Gilbert Lara 13 Monte Harrison 14 Jake Gatewood 15 Michael Reed 16 Adrian Houser 17 Tyrone Taylor 18 Demi Orimoloye 19 Zach Davies 20 Nathan Kirby 21 Marcos Diplan 22 Keon Broxton 23 Yadiel Rivera 24 Damien Magnifico 25 Taylor Williams
  7. Did Jason Lane get a pinch hit home run as a coach?
  8. It sounds like Harrison has been the stud of the group thus far in spring training, so it would make sense to keep him and Clark separated if both are considered long term centerfielders. Harrison being a year older than Clark probably also plays into the assignment. I'm really wondering who's going to fill out the Colorado Springs rotation. Assuming Hader, Houser and Hobbs Johnson are all slated for Biloxi, that leaves two spots for Ortega, Wang and Woodruff, who all should probably be in AA this year. You're left with Davies, Lopez, Suter and Burgos as the remaining AAA starters. I guess Cravy could go back to starting, but if he's the 26th man as a reliever, why change his outlook? It's also confusing to have Taylor, Phillips, Roache and Coulter all in Biloxi when all four should be seeing regular starts. I was hoping to see Cooper in AA this year full time, but with those four in the outfield and assuming Ramirez is still in Biloxi, I can't see enough AB's for him there. And if Sharkey is staying in Wisconsin, that leaves a big void at first in BC.
  9. I'm fairly certain the grip has changed. There was a post recently with video of Clark, Diaz, Taylor and others and I think they addressed the adjustment. I was thinking of a comp for Clark myself but all I can come up with is Hunter Pence. Underrated skills, highlighted by a hit tool with some interesting quirks.
  10. 2080's Preseason Top 125 Prospects - Three interesting additions (and two omissions) for the Brewers: http://2080baseball.com/prospects/
  11. The Diamondbacks could feasibly move out to Scottsdale, near the new spring training facility and partner with the Salt River Indian community again. There is a ton of undeveloped land in that area and would be the most logical place to break ground for all parties if the District's lease were to be nullifed in court. The wording of the document is pretty telling if you go through it. The end game is litigation in the hopes of negotiating a new deal somewhere else, rather than a plea for public funding. "Will soon be the fourth oldest stadium in the national league..." Ok, why disqualify half of the markets and use "soon" as a qualifier? To push the idea of an imminent, systematic problem that cannot be resolved in the short or long term.
  12. Anderson is getting crushed. Even the outs are loud. Rollins just went oppo. 1.2 ip, 7 runs given up, Goforth coming in now. Anderson left way too many pitches in the middle of the zone and paid for it hard. Edit: And Goforth promptly gives up a bomb after a single (Reed error led to runner advancing).
  13. I've been able to catch four games. Here are my quick observations: -Wilkins has a really nice swing path through the zone. I'm not sure what kept him from excelling in the majors previously, but he looks like a definite option if Carter were to go down with an injury or underperform. On the other hand, Carter loves to drop his back shoulder to try and elevate the ball. He's massive, so any over execution to lift the ball seems unnecessary. -Broxton and Yadiel Rivera have very similar body types and abilities. Both are tall, wiry, long striders, that are surprisingly fast out of the box. They struggle with pitch recognition, though. Their swings are long, which makes it difficult to barrel up a ball when they get deep into counts. -Jaye Chapman employs a Papelbon-esque dangling of the right arm before coming up in an exaggerated crouch in the stretch. His velocity looks good and he throws a cutter or front door slider that lefties have a hard time laying off of. Very slow, methodical. With. Every. Pitch. -Flores has a good approach at the plate. Sees the ball well and works deep into counts. Compact, line drive swing which won't produce many homers, but he has good enough speed to leg out singles into doubles. He's played some centerfield as well and has looked pretty good. -I only saw Nolin for an inning, but I didn't see anything overly impressive. Clean delivery, over the top, velocity looked decent but not spectacular. -Pinto has made a couple nice plays at first so far and he appears to be a very likable player. He likes to razz the other players and is always smiling. He just seems like the goofy clubhouse guy that everyone gets along with. As far as hitting, he's been a little too selective, passing on called third strikes and taking pitches he should have been offering at. -Reed has also looked at a few called third strikes in full count situations. He's had some bad luck, too. A couple outs would have been doubles if not for great defensive plays. I'll be at the game today, so any questions or requests, please let me know.
  14. Gatewood seems particularly low in comparison to similar players, namely Harrison and Isan Diaz. Seeing Freddy Peralta on the list is surprising. If Milwaukee's system is vastly better than Seattle's and Peralta didn't make Seattle's most recent top-30, how did he increase in value without playing more games?
  15. I don't know how viable the rumors are saying Beltre could be extended. He's going to be 37 in a month and your top prospect (supposedly) is a year away. The Desmond signing clearly indicates that Texas is in win-now mode. Giving up the 19th pick overall for a guy who will need to learn a new position and could potentially be replaced in two months screams of desperation. Ryan Rua, won the left field job out of ST last year, is now relegated to 4th or 5th outfielder with Ruggiano. It could be the perfect storm that moves Lucroy, though. Mazara blocked by Choo's untradeable contract, Hamilton, Desmond and Rua. Profar blocked by Andrus's untradeable contract and Odor. Brinson blocked by DeShields Jr. (who hopefully tears up spring training and the first couple months). And hopefully the in-house catchers for the Rangers fail miserably. And Lucroy plays at an MVP level... If Profar's shoulder isn't toast, I'd love to see him included in a deal as a buy low candidate and moved to 3rd. If the top guys are off the board - Gallo, Mazara, Brinson - I would hope they could get Profar, Tate, Jurado and Morgan.
  16. Would Cal Quantrill be a possibility at 1.5? Getting one of Groom, Puk, Pint would be ideal imo, rather than the OF's. If Hansen flames out, is post-tj Quantrill worthy of the 4th SP off the board?
  17. Even though Jones was a R5 pick, I don't see him as being safe on the 25-man roster. He has legitimate control issues and no success above A+ ball. I could see him getting bumped for Lambson, Jimenez or Boyer on the 40-man after spring training concludes. If he goes back to the Twins, no loss other than 25k.
  18. Edit: Mentioned above For sure Jeffress, Smith, Knebel, Blazek and Thornburg. Then the best three between Jones, Pena, Goforth, Guerra, Jimenez, Barnes, Magnifico, Cravy and Barrios. Possibly Boyer or Chapman, but that would require outrighting someone from the 40-man.
  19. Baseball Prospectus has an article up about Chase Anderson and his pitching style over the past two years. It looks like he significantly adjusted his focus from 2014 to 2015. Pitching up in the zone, looking for strikeouts in 2014, to pitching down in the zone, looking for more weak contact in 2015. This could be La Russa's influence after becoming director of baseball operations or a cognizant effort to put more balls in play. http://milwaukee.locals.baseballprospectus.com/2016/02/16/did-chase-anderson-have-a-sophomore-slump-dra-cfip/ I think the Lohse for Anderson trade off is being discounted significantly, in terms of win-loss outlook for the year. Regression to the mean for Peralta and a less than horrific year from Garza (and spin off for assets mid-season), in addition to Anderson should make for a significant upgrade to the rotation.
  20. So you think a left handed Mike Fiers is the best this system has to offer?
  21. Latos is a bad pitcher and a bad person. I wouldn't want him around any of the younger players. There's a reason why he's been on five teams in six years. The Brewers are 10-12 deep with starters between Milwaukee and Colorado Springs. There are much cheaper, in-house options that would be much better to run out there. Garza and Latos in the same rotation, attitude-wise, would be like acid rain on a new car.
  22. And you were right about Curtis. Surprised by that one and JB Kole. So far, rounds 3, 7, 8, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, 31, 33, 35 of the 2014 draft are no longer in the system. Altogether, including the players who did not sign, 14 of a possible 41 players are still with the Brewers organization...
  23. I would hope he does the opposite and keeps scouring waiver drops. Phillips is a year away from taking CF (hopefully) permanently. There's no reason to commit money to free agents who want multi-year deals for marginal gains in the short term, especially when your future - again, hopefully - is already in house.
  24. Buxton seems very similar to Mike Cameron, which would be a very good trade off for Jason Rogers. Add in another projectable arm and this trade is great for where the team is now and will be in the next two rebuilding years.
  25. Few notes I made: -Luke Curtis being left off - Age 23 - Started career (2014) in full season Wisconsin and pitched pretty well. Last year, ERA 3.06 in 53 innings, all in relief. I had him slated for Brevard next year. -Alex Presley as the starting CF in Milwaukee. I really don't know that much about him, but it looks like he's average to below average in just about every category. Really hoping Santana (or Reed) can light it up and grab this spot out of spring training. -I went back and forth between keeping Yadiel Rivera at SS, and starting out the year in Biloxi, or starting alongside Arcia in CS and making for one of the most exciting double play combos in all of baseball. Also, it would be nice to see if Orf can add a little more pop to his game and stick at 2B full time, if Rivera was kept in Biloxi. -I've got Lambson as the LHRP in CS instead of Bradley. I used to watch Lambson in college. He was a Friday/Saturday starter then. He never had a power fastball, but could spot it really well in any count. His best pitches were his change up and a Zito-esque looping curve. Both really devastated college hitters. Also, threw an Eephus on occasion, which was always entertaining. -I slated in Houle as the starting catcher in Biloxi and Leal in Brevard. If those two are really the only legit catching prospects in the entire organization, I'd want them getting full time work. -Brevard's outfield - The organization seems stacked in the outfield at the AAA, AA, A and A- level, but aside from Brandon Diaz, I don't see a real prospect in the OF for A+. I think BC is going to have to win a lot of games 1-0, 2-1, 2-0...again. Thanks for the list!
