  1. Milwaukee Brewers ‏@Brewers 16m16 minutes ago RHP Hiram Burgos, LHP Andy Oliver and INF Eric Sogard have signed minor-league contracts with invitations to Major League camp. http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?player_id=501989#/career/R/pitching/2016/ALL http://m.mlb.com/player/519299/eric-sogard
  2. Jerry Crasnick ‏@jcrasnick 43s44 seconds ago Tommy Milone gets a $1.25M base salary plus incentives in his deal with the #Brewers.
  3. Tom ‏@Haudricourt 32s33 seconds ago Stearns said he is still active on relief market. Wouldn’t surprise me if something pops there in next day or two.
  4. Tom ‏@Haudricourt 15s16 seconds ago Stearns likes offensive upside to Bandy. Thinks he might flash more power as he gets more ABs. Also likes his defense. Tom ‏@Haudricourt 15s16 seconds ago Stearns said #Brewers will keep “open mind” with Bandy, Pina and Susac as far as who gets playing time going into camp. dam McCalvy ‏@AdamMcCalvy 6s7 seconds ago David Stearns says Bandy has plus raw power that hasn't necessarily shown up in his stats. Playing time split with Susac/Pina remains TBD. Tom ‏@Haudricourt 9s10 seconds ago Stearns did say there will be learning curve for #Brewers pitchers now that both Lucroy and Maldonado are gone. That what camp is for.
  5. Hudson Belinsky ‏@hudsonbelinsky 1m1 minute ago I'm told Drew Gagnon is headed to the Angels along with Martin Maldonado in exchange for Jett Bandy.
  6. Tom ‏@Haudricourt 34s35 seconds ago Bandy played in 70 games for Angels last year, batting .234/.281/.392. 8 HRs, 25 RBI. Threw out 40% of runners attempting steals. I think they wanted to clear the way for Susac to be the Primary Catcher. Also, The Brewer Nation Retweeted Scott Leckliter Younger, cheaper (not arbitration eligible), more team control. And the MiLB pitcher reportedly involved might not matter.
  7. Joel Sherman ‏@Joelsherman1 43s44 seconds ago #Angels getting Martin Maldonado and a minor league pitcher from #Brewers for Jett Bandy http://m.mlb.com/player/542908/jett-bandy
  8. While he did just have back surgery, I'd still take a flyer.

  10. @KyleAGlaser #Rays officially announce signing of C Wilson Ramos to 2-yr/$12.5 million contract. $5.75 mil in incentives as well. C Justin O'Connor DFA'd As a 2010 first round pick, who is only 24, I feel like he might be a good piece to add to the system. He was on the Rays top 30 prospect with the following report.... Scouting Grades: Hit: 40 | Power: 50 | Run: 35 | Arm: 80 | Field: 55 | Overall: 45 O'Conner became the first-ever catcher taken by the Rays in the first round of the Draft when they picked him 31st overall in 2010. He struggled offensively at the outset of his professional career and didn't make his full-season debut until 2013, but O'Conner found his footing in the Florida State League the next year and parlayed his breakout into a selection to the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game. His bat regressed considerably with the move to Double-A in 2015, while a back injury has kept him off the field entirely so far in '16. O'Conner's plus raw power is still his best offensive tool, and he utilizes it enough to believe he'll produce double-digit homers as well as plenty of doubles. He's aggressive to a fault, though, as his pop comes with a concerning number of swing-and-misses and few walks. O'Conner's swing, meanwhile, is geared toward driving the fastball, which is why he struggled to adjust to a steady diet of secondary pitches last season. Despite not beginning to catch until his senior year of high school, the athletic O'Conner has transformed into an excellent defender behind the plate. He can shut down a running game with his elite arm strength, showing the ability to unleash rocket throws from a variety of arm angles. While his defense lessens the pressure on his bat, O'Conner must consistently hit advanced pitching to carve out a role in the Major Leagues.
  11. Unlikely. Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal 5m5 minutes ago Sources: #Dodgers close on both Turner AND Jansen. Jon Morosi ‏@jonmorosi 6s6 seconds ago Kenley Jansen's deal with #Dodgers expected to be for 5 years, source says. @MLB
  12. I have a weird feeling Toronto swoops in on Braun.
  13. Tom ‏@Haudricourt 10m10 minutes ago Stearns said Dubon will start either at @skysox or @BiloxiShuckers. Pennington either @TimberRattlers or @CarolinaMudcats.
  14. Maybe this Rule 5 Eligible player for PTBNL Justin Haley, rhp, Red Sox: Haley is the owner of possibly the coolest pre-pitch setups in the minors. He sets up on the third-base side of the rubber, with his other foot straddling the rubber. With the ball in his glove raised in front of his face, he looks in for the sign with his pitching hand cocked at his waist, fingers dancing back and forth like Wyatt Earp ready to draw. He gets the sign for the pitch and then locks, loads and fires. As a starter, Haley’s velo ticked up as the season warmed up. Late in the season he was sitting 90-92, but his fastball plays up because he locates it well. He also has an above-average slider as well as a useable curveball and changeup. He was dominant in Double-A this year and solid in Triple-A as a starter. Because he has Triple-A experience and feel, and he’s been impressive in the Dominican Republic this fall with Escogido (2-0, 0.38, 24 IP, 12 H, 4 BB, 14 SO), Haley has made a pretty strong case to be picked. 15. From John Sickel's write up of the trade... Mauricio Dubon, SS: Dubon is originally from Honduras but moved to the United States for high school and was drafted in the 26th round in 2013, from Capital Christian in Sacramento, California. His 2015 and 2016 seasons were very successful: he rang up a .288/.349/.376 line in Low-A and High-A in '15, followed by a .323/.379/.461 mark in '16 split between High-A and Double-A. He was particularly effective late in the year with a .538 SLG in 62 games for Portland. Despite his power surge this year, Dubon isn't a big guy, listed at just 6-0, 160. A right-handed hitter, his best tool is above-average running speed; he swiped 30 bases in both '15 and '16. An efficient contact hitter, he's not a walk machine but makes contact and showed greater ability to drive the ball for distance in '16 thanks to physical maturity. He's not expected to hit a large number of home runs but should provide enough pop to the gaps to hit doubles and triples. He has enough range and arm strength to play shortstop and has looked very good during occasional trials at second base. I would rate him as a solid Grade B prospect at present. Josh Pennington, RHP: Pennington was drafted in the 29th round in 2014 from high school in Lower Cape May, New Jersey. He made 13 starts in 2016 for Lowell in the New York-Penn League, posting a 2.86 ERA in 57 innings with a 49/27 K/BB, 36 hits allowed, and a 1.04 GO/AO. Pennington is a 6-0, 175 pound right-hander, age 20. His draft position is deceptive, as he was coming off Tommy John surgery and could have gone 25 rounds higher if healthy. He's healthy now and hit a reported 97-98 MPH this summer. His curveball and change-up need more polish, a fact reflected in a strikeout rate that doesn't quite match his velocity, but with more innings both of his off-speed pitches could be at least average. At present he rates as a Grade C+ prospect with a chance for more as he builds his stamina back.

  17. MLB Network RadioVerified account ‏@MLBNetworkRadio Stearns on Travis Shaw, "We like players with versatility. I'm sure you'll see him at all 3 positions (3B,1B,LF)." #Brewers
  18. Another Scouting Report on Dubon http://2080baseball.com/reports/mauricio-dubon/
  19. Brent Hershey ‏@BrentHQ 1m1 minute ago Mauricio Dubon is the catch of the deal for #Brewers. Athletic MIF, has hit his way into prospect lists—contact/doubles power, some speed. Brent Hershey ‏@BrentHQ 1m1 minute ago Dubon probably a year out, but gives #Brewers another high-skill option up the middle. Even played some CF in AFL. Was #6 on our BOS list.
  20. Christopher Crawford ‏@Crawford_MILB 14s14 seconds ago Really like that deal for Milwaukee. Mo Dubon has a chance to have four above-average tools. One of the more underrated prospects.
  21. Milwaukee Brewers ‏@Brewers 2m2 minutes ago Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center #Brewers will also receive a player to be named or cash from Boston. #WinterMeetings
  22. Tom ‏@Haudricourt 1m1 minute ago SS Maurico Dubon was rated the No. 7 prospect in Boston’s system by @BaseballAmerica. Athleticism is a very big factor with him. I think he's the center piece. That is a deep system.
  23. Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeyman 1m1 minute ago Travis Shaw plus pennington and dubon go to brewers in Thornburg deal. @EvanDrellich 1st
