Drew Smith @Smith7Drew · 3m Dreams do come true! Thanks to everybody who has helped me along the way. Today I have officially agreed to play for the Milwaukee Brewers Organization! https://gculopes.com/sports/baseball/roster/drew-smith/5823 https://northeasthawks.com/sports/bsb/2018-19/releases/20190626lt94e6 Richard Obert @azc_obert Feb 17 GCU second baseman Drew Smith drove in 11 runs in his first NCAA Division I college baseball weekend -- in 3 games vs Oklahoma State. One of five players nationally with 11 RBIs after three games Joe Healy @JoeHealyBA Feb 15 A nice side benefit of coming to GCU today is that their second baseman Drew Smith uses "Pop, Lock & Drop It" by Huey as his walkup song, and I'd forgotten how catchy that song is. MLB Draft Tracker @MLBDraftTracker · 1m 4 (121): @Brewers select Cincinnati (OH) OF Joey Wiemer. https://atmlb.com/3cFkbxy #MLBDraft Brian Sakowski @B_Sakowski_PG 7s Really like the package of tools here, big athleticism and size, arm strength is plus, has raw power, needs to continue refining but tools give him intriguing upside #MLBDraft Jeffmlbdraft @jeffMLBdraft 48s Joey Wiemer has a ton of swing and miss, but his exit velocity can stand with any player in this class. He has good tools, but man needs some work Aaron Fitt @aaronfitt 1m Tooled up RF profile, reminded me of Rob Deer in the Cape last year. Got big power but also a lot of swing and miss, and it’s a 70 arm. Quote Tweet -

Ben Badler @BenBadler · 42s Two picks I like here in the third round with the Brewers getting Zavier Warren and the Indians drafting Petey Halpin. Good OBP potential with Warren, Halpin a well-rounded player with good bat-to-ball skills from the left side. -

MLB Pipeline 106 Zavier Warren SS, Central Michigan Bio Stats News Video AGE 21 BATS S DOB 01/08/1999 THROWS R HT 6' 0" DRAFTED Never WT 190 Scouting Grades/Report (20-80 grading scale) HIT 55 POWER 40 RUN 45 ARM 55 FIELD 45 OVERALL 45 Video » Central Michigan hasn't had a position player taken in the first five rounds since 1980, but that drought will end this year. Warren impressed with his hitting and on-base ability in the Mid-American Conference last season, then established himself as a quality prospect by doing the same in the Cape Cod League. He spent some time behind the plate for the Chippewas this spring, adding to his intrigue. A switch-hitter with a quick, sound swing from both sides, Warren makes line-drive contact with ease. He's more of a gap-to-gap hitter than a home run threat, though he did set a school record with 22 doubles last year. He's not afraid to work deep counts in the pursuit of walks, and plays quicker than his fringy-to-average speed thanks to aggressiveness on the bases. Warren's future defensive home is in question because his so-so range and funky arm action aren't suited for shortstop. His solid arm could help make him an asset at third base (where he played on the Cape) if he shows enough power to profile there, or he could wind up as an offensive second baseman. There are mixed reviews on him as a catcher, his high school position, though he has the hands, arm and athleticism to possibly make it work with more experience. -

Taylor Blake Ward @TaylorBlakeWard 37s #Brewers get rare catcher/shortstop versatility in Zavier Warren Will Sammon @WillSammon 15s With the 92rd overall pick, #Brewers take C/SS Zavier Warren out of Central Michigan. Was No. 86 on @keithlaw's board of top 100 Christopher Crawford @Crawford_MILB m Zavier Warren drafted as a catcher by the Brewers is interesting. Played shortstop for Central Michigan. Switch-hitter with a chance to hit for average. Intriguing. Aaron Fitt @aaronfitt 44s Zavier Warren is another guy that @DSeifertD1PBR and I really liked in the Cape last year. Strong, compact athlete, switch-hitter, think he could play all over the infield or stick him behind the plate. Aggressive baserunner, plays hard, really fun player to watch. Brian Sakowski @B_Sakowski_PG 1m #MACtion off the board again here, Warren has real hit tool projection from both sides, good pop there, announced as a catcher, has played there and does project well, could be 3B/2b if not. Also: #FireUpChips #MLBDraft Nick J. Faleris @NickJFaleris 2m Warren has the hands/arm/footwork to make sense at catcher. If the Brewers pull it off that feels like it could be a steal. Even if he shifts to third base I like the bat enough for him to be great value here. Nice pick, #Brewers. #MLBDraft Joe Healy @JoeHealyBA 19s Really love the game of @CMUBaseball's Zavier Warren, the latest @Brewers pick. Very versatile defender, solid all-around hitter who I could see developing some more traditional power. Rhys White @RhysBWhite 1m If Warren can even be an average defensive catcher without losing anything in the bat the Brewers could have gotten a good one. Plus Warren can play a few other positions Tom Mussa @tom_mussa 1m I love Zavier Warren, kid has an incredible bat. 1.000 OPS last year and was off to a very hot start this spring before cancellation. I think he actually does have a ch ace to stick at Catcher as well. Very strong arm that has called his own game in past. #Brewers -

MLB Pipeline 100. Freddy Zamora SS, Miami Bio Stats News Video AGE 21 BATS R DOB 11/01/1998 THROWS R HT 6' 1" DRAFTED Never WT 190 Scouting Grades/Report (20-80 grading scale) HIT 50 POWER 40 RUN 50 ARM 60 FIELD 55 OVERALL 45 Video » Freddy Zamora Sr. played professional baseball in Nicaragua and his son has the chance to play at a much higher level. The younger Zamora had been a starter since he set foot on Miami's campus, and after being a glove-only type of middle infielder, improvements in his offensive game had him much higher on Draft boards as he was set to begin his junior season with the Hurricanes. That progress came to a screeching halt when he was first suspended for violating team rules before the start of the season, then suffered a knee injury in practice that will shelved him for the rest of the year. At his best, Zamora has the skill set to be an everyday player at a premium position. He can be a plus defender at times, with a lot of body control, range and wing span at his disposal to go along with an easily plus arm. He's made strides at the plate to make him a more well-rounded player. He's very short to the ball with a contact-oriented approach that makes him tough to strike out, and he started showing more extra-base pop during his sophomore year, though he tailed off at the end of the year. Zamora is an average runner, especially once underway, and he's shown the ability to steal bases, though he was nursing a hamstring injury this fall and will have to show there are no ill-effects from the knee injury. He can play with a low motor at times, but with his overall skill set, and he’ll now have to answer questions about his makeup, but he has the tools to be a top three-round talent. -

Victor (MLB DRAFT) @V2KCOVERAGE 2m A great comp for Freddy Zamora is Jean Segura, with a better-developed hit tool and his already great defensive!Jeffmlbdraft @jeffMLBdraft 7m Zamora was a first-rounder. He got hurt, and plummeted on boards. It was clear there might have been some character concerns. He is the top defender as a shortstop in this college class. Taylor Blake Ward @TaylorBlakeWard 7m #Brewers take a potential every day shortstop in second round with Freddy Zamora (Miami) who had his draft status falter due to ACL injury and breaking program rules FanGraphs Prospects @FG_Prospects 9m Brewers 2nd rounder - Freddy Zamora, SS, Miami Ranked 35th on my Board. MB 9:16 Thoughts on the Brewers picking Mitchell? Eric A Longenhagen 9:16 Good value. Not all that different from Travis Swaggerty a couple years ago and he's a top 100 guy now Will Sammon @WillSammon 1m Mitchell became one of the best college prospects while playing with Type 1 diabetes. Known for speed, defense, and was off to a hot start in 2020: Slashed .355/.425/.484 Carlos Collazo @CarlosACollazo 2m Just so much upside to be on the board at 20 with Garrett Mitchell. I was going to love this pick wherever he went. I love the pick. He just impacts the game in so many ways. Jason A. Churchill • Baseball Things @ProspectInsider 4m Love Mitchell to Milwaukee. Christopher Crawford @Crawford_MILB · 7m To me, Mitchell is the steal of the draft. I get the concerns, I really do. I think he's a potential star. Love this pick. I respect all these guys. 2020 July 2 Signing Rumors
JDBrewCrew replied to Spencer Michaelis's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
MLB released their top 30 international signing prospects for this signing period. Chourio was the only one directly linked to the Brewers. The scouting report is below. 16 Jackson Chourio SS AGE 16 BATS R DOB 03/11/2004 THROWS R HT 6' 0" WT 165 Scouting Grades/Report (20-80 grading scale) HIT 55 POWER 55 ARM 55 RUN 50 FIELD 50 Chourio is tall and lean with a projectable body and enough athleticism play shortstop or center field in the future. His hit tool might be the most advanced part of his game at the moment, but his defense is not far behind. In fact, he shows good hands in the infield and an average arm now that projects to be a plus tool in the future. Like most prospects his age, Chourio is working on improving his footwork and internal clock, but he continues to make big strides in both areas. In the outfield, he has a good first step in center field and can cover lots of ground because of his running speed, which projects to be a plus tool in the future. At the plate, the teen shows good bat speed, an understanding of the strike zone, and the ability to put backspin on the ball. As a result, he can drive the ball out of the park to all fields, especially the opposite field. He is expected to have plus power as he matures and his body develops. There’s a chance his frame will force him to move to third base or a corner outfield spot, but for now, he’s staying put up the middle. Chourio was a star on Venezuela’s youth teams and evaluators love his ability to perform in big games. He’s also been praised for his makeup. The teenager trains at CJ Baseball Academy in Maracaibo, Venezuela, with Jonathan Herrera and is represented by Beverly Hills Sports Council’s Cesar Suarez, a member of MLB’s Trainer Partnership Program. The Brewers are the favorites to sign him. -

Marte to Arizona, Prospects to Pirates
JDBrewCrew replied to JDBrewCrew's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Jeff Passan @JeffPassan · 1m The two prospects going back to the Pittsburgh Pirates in the Starling Marte trade are young and have high ceilings, sources tell ESPN, but that can be said about a lot of Arizona's farm system, which may be the deepest and best in baseball behind San Diego and Tampa Bay's. Robert Murray @ByRobertMurray · 1m Sources: #DBacks in agreement to acquire Starling Marte from #Pirates for Liover Peguero and another prospect. Liover Peguero | Rank: 18 (Preseason: NR) Team: Hillsboro Hops (A Short) ETA: 2022 Position: SS Age: 19 DOB: 12/31/2000 Bats: R Throws: R Height: 6' 1" Weight: 160 lb. Signed: July 2, 2017 - ARI Scouting grades: Hit: 55 | Power: 40 | Run: 60 | Arm: 55 | Field: 55 | Overall: 45 Signed for $475,000 out of the Dominican Republic at the outset of the 2017 international signing period, Peguero made his pro debut the following year, beginning in the Dominican Summer League before shifting stateside and finishing the season as a 17-year-old in the Arizona League. Challenged with an assignment to the Pioneer League in 2019, Peguero established himself as yet another promising, up-and-coming prospect in Arizona's system, showing advanced hitting ability and a mature approach while also holding his own defensively at shortstop. Peguero has the chance to be a special hitter. He has an impactful swing from the right side of the plate, with plus bat speed that enables him to smash good velocity and make consistent barreled contact, and it's easy to envision him developing some game power as he adds strength to his projectable frame. He has an advanced approach for a teenager and already shows the ability to recognize spin and control the strike zone, with his plus speed that aids him on both sides of the ball. A pure shortstop in the eyes of the D-backs, Peguero has already made huge strides defensively and has the actions, hands and arm strength needed to stick at the position long term. While his remaining physical projection could lead to a move off of the position down the road, Peguero's bat could enable him to profile at a host of positions on the diamond. For now, though, he'll be given every opportunity to stick up the middle. Jon Heyman @JonHeyman 34s Hearing Brennan Malone is going to Pirates in Marte deal. First round pick last year (33rd overall). Brennan Malone | Rank: 9 (Preseason: NR) Team: Hillsboro Hops (A Short) ETA: 2023 Position: RHP Age: 19 DOB: 09/08/2000 Bats: R Throws: R Height: 6' 4" Weight: 205 lb. Drafted: 2019, 1C (33) - ARI WATCH Scouting grades: Fastball: 65 | Slider: 60 | Curveball: 50 | Changeup: 50 | Control: 50 | Overall: 50 Malone was an exciting, if a bit enigmatic, high school right-hander on the showcase circuit over the summer, one who showed glimpses of plus stuff and athleticism while struggling with consistency and command at times. As the spring wore on, Malone was trending upward, with an impressive complete-game shutout for IMG Academy in front of a lot of scouts at USA Baseball's National High School Invitational in early April really helping his stock. The North Carolina native who moved to IMG for his senior year of high school has the makings of four solid pitches and improved consistency in using them throughout a start. He regularly runs his fastball up to 96 mph and has shown an ability to maintain that velocity deeper into starts this spring. He now features two distinct breaking pitches, with a plus slider a big reason for his step forward. It's a true out pitch and it's better than his average curve, which is a bigger 11-to-5 breaker when he maintains his high three-quarter arm slot. He has feel for his changeup, though he can slow his arm a bit on it at times. After starting the spring looking like the thrower he was over the summer, he's made strides toward being a more complete pitcher with improved command. Given his athleticism and easy arm action, it's easy to see him as a future right-handed power starting pitcher. -
