  1. In large part because the Cubs have played by far the toughest schedule in MLB. Only 9 of their 41 games have been against teams under .500. They are done for the year with all of their games against the Dodgers, Padres, and DBacks and have played one of their series against the Mets, Phillies, and Giants. That’s 29 of their 41 games so far against the top teams in the NL. The Brewers have played 7 games against those teams and went 2-5 in them.I’d hate to think what kind of record the Brewers would have if they had that schedule. For the rest of May, the Cubs play two series against each of the Marlins, Rockies, and Redsand one series against the White Sox. Let’s see how things look in 3 weeks
  2. Hey, a “comeback” win. Three straight Salvage Sundays.
  3. I’m impressed that Contreras is trying to tough it out by playing through an injury. But he isn’t helping the team batting fourth if he can’t swing a bat with any authority. Small wonder the Brewers are struggling to score runs with black holes batting third and fourth to go along with the ones playing 3B and SS.
  4. I’m not going to hold my breath on Yelich coming off back surgery and Contreras playing with a broken finger getting back to their career numbers. Contreras seems to be experimenting with anything to see if he can find something that allows him to hold the bat and swing comfortably. I think it’s only a matter of time before he throws in the towel and goes on the IL for as long as it takes for that to heal.
  5. This offense is pathetically sad. Even when the opponent tries to hand them runs they can’t convert.
  6. The only reason for Contreras to be playing now is to prove to him that he is not going to be able to help the team playing with a broken finger.
  7. They are going to have this issue all season. Anyone who visits Florida regularly knows that it is common for heavy to torrential downpours pop up from out of nowhere.. They aren’t like a line of storms that you can see coming and can determine from radar when they are likely to arrive and when they will move out. Some times it will rain like crazy for a minute and then the sun will be back out. Other times they can park in one place for awhile. If they stop the game and call out the tarp every time it rains hard and the radar shows nothing but a pop up downpour they are going to have some very long games with multiple delays. The almost daily thunderstorms in summer are a significant reason why the Rays have always played with a roof.
  8. Hard to score many runs with no extra base hits. And the guys in the middle of the order aren’t getting them.
  9. Errors and walking guys after jumping ahead in the count have killed the Brewers tonight, not the umpires.
  10. Contreras isn’t going to help the team on offense in his current condition If there’s something that could be done to get his finger back to full strength in 2 months it would make sense to do it.
  11. Good job escaping that self inflicted jam. Now is there any chance to pick up 2 more runs tonight?
  12. Some controversy about a call helps to deflect attention from how excruciatingly dull this offense is to watch.
  13. The bases have been empty for most at bats in this game.
  14. We also didn’t realize that Contreras would be playing with an injury that would turn him into an average hitter. And while Yelich was a question mark because of his back surgery, there was at least reason to hope he could be something close to what he was when he was able to play last year. Unfortunately he is a pretty big hole in the middle of the order.
  15. The lineup the Brewers have out there today would lose 100 games.
  16. Oh yeah, he was warmed up ready to go and then they sat him down when they added some runs. That gave me flashbacks to the game in Arizona It was still scary when the first batter he faced hit the ball to the track.
  17. Megill 3 days in a row is a little scary.
  18. I hate it when announcers say that a pitcher “just made one mistake“. They just got done talking about how Patrick was leaving some pitches up in the strike zone but was getting away with it 10 seconds later, he leaves a pitch up and gives up a home run, and suddenly that’s the only mistake he’s made all night.
  19. Levering: “The Astros are lucky that bill hit Meyers. If he had missed it Hoskins would still be running” He’s right. Hoskins would be approaching third by now.
  20. Peralta deserves a medal for his effort today. Too bad the offense is so pitiful that it’s probably for naught.
  21. More accurately everybody is very consistently not hitting right now.
  22. I’m expecting a big game from Chourio today. Because of injuries to other players I haven’t been able to bench him on my fantasy team. Now one of those injured players finally went on the IL so I have a replacement. Last weekend when I benched him he had the big series against the Cardinals. Looking for more of the same today. The Brewers need it to have a chance to stay with the Cubs.
  23. I don’t see why it’s embarrassing. They have a market several times bigger than the Brewers and their fans have an opportunity to see their team in a much more convenient and comfortable setting than going to Wrigley. As far as I’m concerned anybody who isn’t at the game has no right to complain about people who aren’t willing to spend their time and money to sit in an environment that isn’t any fun. If there’s anything that’s embarrassing, it’s that 2025 will be the first time since 2017 that the Cubs, despite their huge financial advantage, will finish ahead of the Brewers in a full regular season.
