    The last two games on our 12 pack the opposing SP have been Schlitter and Yamamoto. The Brewers scored a total of 1 run against the two of them. So, it figures that they would get Sanchez as we go today. The over/under on Brewers runs scored should be 0.5. I did get rewarded for exchanging my tickets for the upcoming Cubs game for the Brewers 16-2 win over the Giants. It was fun to see some runs for a change. Hopefully Harrison can have a bounce back game to keep it close. This is the fourth time he’s started a game we attended.

    The season stats for the pitching are just fine. In May the pitching was spectacular while the offense was mediocre. But the season stats for the staff as a whole are not very meaningful now because of how many of the pitchers who contributed to those stats are either on the ILor are showing signs of wear. Hopefully some of the pitchers on the IL can return and be effective sometime in the next few weeks, or at least after the All Star break. But, in the meantime it’s going to be a struggle to cover innings.

    It’s going to be a challenge for Brewers fans who have become used to solid pitching to adjust to what appears to be coming over the next few weeks. Colorado and Vegas can be explained away to some extent, but losing 2 of the last 3 home games by scores of 12-9 and 9-8 sounds some alarms.

    Seeing Patrick get bombed again, only increases concerns about how the Brewers are going to get through the heavy schedule coming up.

    Ah, I was just looking at the box score and just saw all the zeroes on the pitching line.

    Yamamoto taking a perfect game to the 9th could knock Mis out of pitcher of the week.

    This feels like a series rubber game to me. Im not exactly conceding with Harrison against Sanchez, but I have little confidence in the Brewers offense against an elite pitcher. I have higher hopes for Drohan can contain the Philly lefties while the offense puts up some runs against Nola.

    I would think that the Brewers have a tentative plan for starts for Mis and Harrison between now and the All Star break. That might include trying to get him starts in series against the Cubs, Cardinals, and Pirates. I wonder if they will set him up to be available to pitch in the ASG. To do that, he could only pitch once in the 8 games against the Cards and Pirates unless they were willing to start him on only 4 days rest. One way to look at this. If he pitches every fifth day between now and the ASG, he would get 6 starts with the last one being on the Sunday before the break. I would be shocked if they try to do this. So, he will likely get 5 starts before the break, usually with at least 5 days rest in between. Working backward, he could pitch the first game of the 5 game Cardinal series and then the Saturday game against the Pirates, which would allow him to pitch one inning in the ASG with 2 days rest before and 4 or 5 days of rest after, He could have 3 other starts before that Cardinal series.

    I think we can all enjoy what Misiorowski is doing now without getting too far ahead of ourselves about franchise altering players and all time greats. Just thinking about Teddy Higuera is a reminder of how fragile players, especially pitchers, can be. It’s great to think about Misiorowski becoming this generation’s Scherzer or Verlander, but I lived in Michigan during Bird Mania in 1976 and I know things don’t always turn out that way

    It’s definitely a strong contender. Before last night my top 2 would be Sabathia’s should have been no hitter, and a 1 hitter by Teddy Higuera against KC in 1987. Higuera did walk 2 ( both in the sixth inning) and “only,” struck out 9. But the final score in the game was 2-0 so he was pitching all night with the pressure of just trying to win the game.

    Since Mattingly took over as manager after their 9-19 start, the Phillies have the best record in MLB at 28-12, a half game better than the Brewers 27-12. So, yes they have been playing well. They haven’t been as potent offensively as they have been in recent years as some guys (most notably Turner and Realmuto) have been having subpar seasons. But hitters like Schwarber, Harper, and Marsh make them tough. It doesn’t upset me that the Brewers will not be facing Wheeler, who seems to be in top form after recovering from the same problem Priester is having now. Maybe Priester will have to undergo the same surgery and try to come back next year.

    I went to bed after about 5 innings, but didn’t Chourio also whistle a line drive that carried to the center fielder? The Brewers have had plenty of other games where the offense does next to nothing for most of the game so I’m not sure you can conclude that they “came out of their element” last night any more than they did in other games where they got shut down.

    Over the last 10 days the Cardinals have moved solidly into second place. Is everyone still as sure as they were that the Cardinals are a bad team that will collapse as the season moves on.

    I don’t think this stretch of 13 games was that “dreaded” given the nature of the opponents. I was interested to see how the Brewers would handle the pitching staff with no off days for 13 days, both with SP and the bullpen. The Brewers seem to be sticking with a 6 day rotation, even if that means using 6 different starting pitchers. They get a little bit of a reset with the off days around the Phillies series. The real “dreaded “ stretch is the 19 games in 18 days, or whatever it is, leading up to the All Star break. With the new injuries to Hall and Fitzpatrick the challenge presented by that stretch got more complicated. Hopefully a couple of the pitchers on the IL can come back and be effective by then.

    How about Gasser backed up by Crow tonight, then send one of them down to add backup for Sproat tomorrow.? They have to be prepared to punt tonight’s game and hope to have most of the bullpen available tomorrow if the game is winnable. Then hopefully get solid starts from Misiorowski, Drohan, and Harrison against the Phillies and between that and the bookend off days be in decent shape by Tuesday.

    I went to bed in the sixth thinning with the Brewers trailing 9 to 5. I woke up about 1230 and looked at my phone to see that the Brewers were ahead 14 to 10 but within seconds it was 14 to 14. I’m glad the Brewers won, but MLB should be embarrassed that they allowed a game to be played in that stadium. In addition to the de facto Little League dimensions, the rock hard surface brought back bad memories from the Astroturf days. Two more games like that could destroy the pitching staff for days.

    Not a good night for people who paid thousands of dollars for tickets and had to stand in lines that were blocks long to get in.

    Playing in this park could screw up the pitching staff for a week. Won’t be staying up for games that are guaranteed to go past midnight.

    I think you would agree that the 4,15 RPG in May is closer to what the offense will be like for the rest of the season than the almost 9 runs a game in the late April/early June games. There’s even a good chance that it will be closer than the 5.26 RPG in the last 37 games.
