I humbly disagree on the lineup... too many AAAA bats and struggling players. This lack of offense through injuries, illnesses and prolonged slumps really gets old. Anyways, prove me wrong again split squad lineup! You may be right, but compared to yesterday's lineup it's like night and day. And I agree with AZ that Weeks leading off is a good move. In the Reds game (which I am also watching) Hamilton and Votto combined for some fancy base running to plate 2 in the 1st vs. the struggling Phils. But phenom Cingrani, rerturning from the DL was rudely greeted by the Phils as the 1st 2 batters in the bottom of the inning went DEEP. Tied after one.
That lineup looks goood! But Travis Wood can turn in a jem at any time and is also a tough out at the plate. But if I had a bet on this game I would go with Brews to win 5-2
There's going to be PLENTY of ass pains in the NL! The Rockies are awesome and I damn sure don't look forward to facing them at Coors. Ditto the Giants. I think Hunter Pence is some kind of marvelous baseball throwback. Wish we had a couple of guys with his gritty spirit and talent.Big day for Card fans today as they will be holding their collective breath to see if Garcia is truly back. Jason Motte will also be activated this week. Nobody knows which starter will be sent down or to the pen. My guess would be Miller, but he was lights out yesterday. So who knows? I get to watch you guys on WGN AND the Reds AND the Cards at the same time. My clicker might burn out!
Perhaps I will join a Pirates forum. They need my "help" more than the Brews. They were mangled by the Bronx Bombers today. The Cubs may catch 'em this week.
In today's game Atlanta appeared flummoxed by bunters and base stealers. (4 bunts for hits by Bourjos and Wong) They looked bad in the outfield as well. They don't look like a Div. leader at all. But the game's not over. (4-1 in the 8th)
Well, the Cards busted out on the Braves tonight. Three straight now, and Carpenter and Craig are beginning to hit. The defense has solidified and the middle relief has been surprising of late. The call in radio shows are ablaze with optimism. I'm not so sure. But it's safe to say that I'm encouraged. I think the Braves (for good reason) dread facing the Cardinals and winning 2 of 3 vs. the Cubbies is no mean feat. The coming week will be very interesting: The Reds, with Bruce and Votto out will not gain any ground. But the Brews will maintain at least a .600 win clip. .700 is not out of the question. The Pirates: I don't know. Seems they should be winning more.
So basically beat "everybody" in our own division? No, break even with the likes of Atlanta, St. Louis and S.F. and beat the bum teams that you SHOULD beat.
Agree on all points Greg. The thing the Brews (or any first place team) has to avoid is losing streaks. And you know what they say: Beat all the teams you should and play .500 vs. the rest and you make the playoffs.
I'M not familiar with the term "Super two" What does it mean? Wong was brought back up after only a week down. Why send him down in the first place!?? (Ellis has been doing fine in his absence) It's official: Jaime Garcia will take Lyons/Kelly's spot in the rotation. This Sunday I think. Most Card fans have given up on him and his shoulder. I'm one of them.
What happened to Votto? Another guy going on the DL on my team? Please God, no more. I just got Braun back, so now Votto is going to join Mesoraco, Jay Bruce, Michael Cuddyer. Great, lol. I guess you are referring to some kind of fantasy baseball?
A VERY impressive AB. He wore Jeff down psychologically I believe. Must have been brutal for Cub fans to watch. Lucroy is underrated by the media. I rarely hear him mentioned. Castro's arm is bad. I wonder why he and Barney don't switch up? Poor Jeff....he's gotta be the unluckiest man in the NL. (1.45 ERA and no wins)
I must say that the lineup is a mess. And the Cubs are at full strength. (whatever that may be) I think this will be a very interesting series. Rizzo and Castro have really come into their own. The rookie Olt is dangerous too, but I see he is not playing. Just a guess, but maybe Shafer has had success vs. Lohse? I get to watch on WGN, which is always a treat for me.
Hey Guys....just thought I would drop in as it's the only game in town with Cards, Cubs and Reds washed out. I'm following on Gameday and the MLB TV updates.
All true, plus Adams has only 2 HR due to the shift. He can go to LF, but with no power. Lyons was clubbed unmecifully last night, now 0-3 since replacing Kelly. Jaime Garcia made his last start in AAA last night and pitched OK and will be coming up. Jason Motte is going to AAA after doing well in AA. I don't know what gives with Kelly. As far as Tavares: they brought up 2 outfielders from Memphis and niether one was named Tavares! For some reason they refuse to give him a shot on the big club.
That game was hard to watch. Matheny has not yet learned when to take out a struggling starter. Lyons was being rocked, walking and hitting guys too, giving up 7 by the 2nd, but he stayed in 'till the 5th. The entire bench was decimated and utility man Descalso ended up on the mound! In the post game interview Daniel was grim. It was clear that he didn't like having to do that. I swear I hate playing the Cubs. They can't wait to beat us! So the Cards lose the Pirate series and will certainly lose this one as well. When do we play the D-Backs?
