  1. It may not be much, but it's something. Schwarber has been raking of late but it's Javi Baez that's on fire. Can't let that guy beat you.On Darvish: He'll be lucky to go 5.
  2. It is funny/ironic how two people can read the same thing and have completely polar opposite reactions. That article made me greatly admire Pham and his mental toughness and ability to rise above adversity. Yeah I have to back jericho here. Pham comes off as a total jerk in that article. You can't base your opinion of players off of news articles but if I had to I'd assume Pham is one of the bigger jerks in the league. You guys are smarter than me because after 2 years of watching Pham I still don't know what/who he is. I do see that he has a big chip on his shoulder. He doesn't relax. Even on the bench his brows are knitted. On the Pirates: after a blistering start Josh Harrison goes down and they revert to a .500 team and that's not surprising. That guy is special. We get 'em for 3 and I'm looking forward to getting a good look at them. 2 of 3 is reasonable and will keep us playing tag with you for the Central lead. On the Cubs: Helluva offensive team still, but the pitching is suspect. I've only seen them for 1 game (2 snow outs didn't help) so far so I will be watching your game today with great interest.
  3. With the currency of currency. Aren't they among the deepest pockets in the NL? Also I've heard a lot of talk about trading Schwarber.
  4. The wild card race is going to be crazy if the NL East remains a 3-team race. LOL I didn't think of that! With the Giants completely out of it will be the Mets/Nats and the Central. I have to wonder if the Cubs will land an Ace and pen help soon? I guess it's really too soon for them to panic...or maybe not.
  5. And speaking of hitting: There are 5 teams in the NL that lead in the major offensive categories (Ave, HR and slugging) The thin air Rockies and the NL Central, minus the Reds. http://gatewayredbirds.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif
  6. https://twitter.com/HookedSportsChi/sta ... 0392977408 Cubs @ Coors (MLBTV)
  7. I wonder if Dusty Baker is sitting next to the phone? Or Sweet Lou?
  8. I got a pretty good look at the Reds last week and I must say it's a team struggling. They have no big bats, no big arms and Votto can't do everything. The attendance was really low; you could hear a pin drop. Just a horrible baseball atmosphere. Of course, the cold conditions didn't help. They have been swept 3 times already and have had 3 games canceled....just brutal. I don't know the Vegas odds, but to me it's 50-50 they get swept by every Central team in the near future.
  9. Nothing that happened in last night's game means much. Remember: these guys are trying to play baseball in Arctic conditions. It's bound to be a mess. Hands numb, snot freezing in your nose, throbbing toes...forget about it!
  10. I have one thing figured out: You have to have a 5 run lead in the 8th to beat the Brewers.
  11. Drivers license not required to sell your tickets on stub hub. Plus, plenty of cubs fans live in Milwaukee area. Yeah, that makes sense as the Cubs are the older team. I'm glad we're 320 miles from Chi! (and as I type Bryant brings a loud cheer) This is SO disconcerting.
  12. Lot of WI people buy 20 game packs, then sell opening day and some of these premium games for profit to basically cover the rest of their games. I see. Can you estimate the percentage of Cub fans in attendance? (sounds like a lot!)
  13. Just tuned in to your game and was surprised to hear more boos than cheers when that call was upheld. I thought that drivers' licences were required to keep Chicago fans away....what's the story?
  14. Lester had a hideous first start . A fluke, or is he getting a little long in the tooth?
  15. One helluva win you guys. But for Card fans it could have been worse. HOW you ask....you know how gloom and doom baseball fans are, and when Carpenter hit directly into the teeth of the shift with a chance to put the game out of reach, and then the hitless wonder Wong was not pinch-hit for (thank you Matheny) you start to get nervous. So I, for one was not shocked. I swear that when Yellish had 2 strikes on him I was still biting my nails. There simply are games you don't deserve to win and this was a classic case. Oh well, maybe we getcha tonite.
  16. Looks like a pitching duel is out of the question....good! I like action.
  17. Ditto! St. Louis is pissed off not making the post season 2 straight years, and it's been a while for the Brewers. Your lineup looks fairly daunting; lots of tough outs. We're a little better too (at least on paper) And kudo's to the Pirates for coming out of the blocks strong. Anyway in the world they're for real?
  18. Yeah, that was the high point. The new, svealt Thor mowed 'em down with 10 K's, no BB. The Mets' pen was pretty good as well. Cards ace Martinez walked everything!
  19. Unfortunately the Cubs are probably due for a bounce-back year. But all the pundits predicting them to be World Champions? No way. They are the third-best team in the NL on paper and will hopefully have to fight a close battle for a division title again. I also hope that skinny Schwarber continues to be a bust. Huh? Did he have a bad Spring?
  20. I agree. I really feel like we have both closed the gap, and ALL the pundits report that the Brewers will be the most improved team this year. (gulp)
  21. Thank you, 'Ton.
  22. Lordy, it's been a long off season! Well, it's gonna be an interesting season for this 3-team race in the Central. I know you guys made some good pickups, the Cards not so much and I don't think the Cubs did much. Is it too much to ask that we have a touch and go race rather than looking up at the Northsiders all year!??
