  1. LOL, know the feeling. Gonna be a jammed afternoon of baseball as Cubs/AZ on MLBTV, same start time....but they just pulled the tarp out on the field.
  2. Tell me about it. I hope to beat those stinking Cubs tonite on national TV, but Quintana will be tough.
  3. Understandable. At least you are spared seeing that highlight clip every single time the word McGee or the number 82 is mentioned on the broadcasts for the last 35 years!
  4. My memories of that WS is warped. I was psyched but if memory serves, my boy Ted, who Whitey had ran out of town hit a HR in his 1st AB! Very perplexing. I remember wondering why we EVER pitched to Yount. Still the best post season performance ever in my book. Right up there with David Freese.
  5. Yep, who 'da thunk it? Cubs/Cards below .500 at the break? Brewers back to wall banging...nobody saw that coming. The Bucs dropped 10 in the 1st on Lester Sunday. It's going to be a long 3 days for those North Siders. I have to share one of those "I never saw that before" moments: We have a rook, De Jong, who's tearing the cover off the ball and with Wong out has been getting lots of AB's. Anyway, on Saturday he's playing SS close to the bag with a man on 1st. He gets a tailor made DP ball...now get this: instead of stepping on the bag and firing to 1B, he inexplicably steps OVER the bag and starts to chase the runner back to first! The guy is briefly in a rundown with the batter standing on first, scratching his head, along with everybody in the park. Fortunately for the kid, he went something like 10 for 12 with 7 XBH in the 3 game series vs. the Mets. Oh well...it's going to be a very interesting 2nd half in the Central.
  6. Yeah, except the Rockies are in free fall and LA just swept AZ after my lowly Cards beat 'em a series. The Dodgers are the best team in the world right now!
  7. Well, you guys knocked the snot out of those Cubbies yesterday. Could be a wake up call for them tho'. I saw that Schwarber was O-fer with an error. Maddon doesn't seem to know what to do with the guy and it can't be helping the team's chemistry.
  8. I had to check on this one, and you're right. Wow, just wow.
  9. Any team can bust out a good win and then drop 3 straight. I hate to tell you this brwr, but the Brewers are the team to beat in this division, not the Cubbies. Even the talking heads are starting to admit it...and they HATE IT!
  10. Chicago is the farthest NE I've ever been. I had no idea that it was only 90 miles from Milwaukee. But to your point: Even the talking sports heads speak of the lack of coverage on Mil......and then a week later they will bring it up again, and a week later............. Going to make it up to Miller Park someday? I would love to see it some day, along with Wrigley and Fenway.

  12. icbj: I can't agree with those numbers....all 3 teams are the exact win % number they reflect TODAY. Those numbers will change this way and that, and that goes for the Reds and Bucs.
  13. That's true but it's still really daunting. While the WC aces are burned, the Div. winner is setting their rotations and have a rested pen, and of course the HFA. I remember 2006 as quite a fluke. The Tigers were the better team with a FAR better manager in Leland, but the Cards had an unknown Wainwright and Molina, both at their youthful best. (last year the Cubs had an unknown Schwarber) And nobody could have predicted the incredible number of critical errors by the Detroit pitchers all at crucial moments. You have to go back to the 1960 Yank/Pirates WS for a bigger post season fluke!
  14. No kidding. I've never seen such a tight division race....still all 5 teams CLOSE in July. And of course, a percieved bottom feeder turned shark. You know, I don't see the Cubs EVER being what they were for the last year and a half. I see you and the Pirates battling them down to the wire. Marte' will be back and Cutch seems to be Cutch again. I seriously don't give a damn if the flip floppin' Cards get in the playoffs. It would be like the Chicago Bulls (my team) this year: what good is it making the post season if you KNOW you will be out of it early?
  15. reillymcshane...I just heard that the Cards GM has been replaced today . I have no details.
  16. The knee-jerk DFA of the guy is a shocker to me. You may be right that there's trouble on the North Side. I'm starting to think that the whole team was 'roiding to beat the band last year. How can SO MANY players drop off all at the same time ?
  17. Cubs looking like the keystone Cops right now...4-1 Nats.
  18. Can't blame you for that! You went up like a rocket early on. The way you're going this year is more realistic. The Cubs are showing signs of stablizing but do still appear to be human. I think the key is to beat the North Siders when you play 'em. (both teams should feast on the other 3) Dead Simmons, how's the rumblings down in St. Louis? Any excitement? Is Matheny at risk? Just curious. Thanks. There is a lot of talk about he AND the GM being on the hot seat, but I don't buy it. The DeWitt family is making scads of money on the team which reflects quite favorably on Matheney and Mozelik. Forty thousand fans for day games! Now that two HUGE contracts in Holliday and Peralta are gone they stand to make more money this year than ever. I moved out of St. Louis years ago so I can only speculate on the barber shop/water cooler talk: the town MUST be very unhappy. Personally, I've been pissed ever since LaRussa was hired.
  19. Yeah, I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop. I probably won't really fully believe unless the calendar turns to September and we're in 1st. Call it 2014 syndrome, or whatever. Can't blame you for that! You went up like a rocket early on. The way you're going this year is more realistic. The Cubs are showing signs of stablizing but do still appear to be human. 20. What's it down to now? And while you're at it, what is the Giants magic number???
  21. Cards just played the Reds and let me tell you: they look like a different team. So many mental errors (and actual errors) They played worse than us! (and we suck bad) It looked like they didn't give a damn. Good chance your guys pick up some ground. Cubs face Sherzer tonight I think.
  22. Good lord I'm glad we don't have to play you guys again until August!!!
  23. You would have watch the day to day mismanagement to get a real grip on the St. Louis situation. A casual glance at Baseball Tonight tells one nothing. Peter Gammons and his ilk can't really know what's going on with a team by viewing highlights and showing home runs and super catches. The so called "Cardinal Way" is a sham based on Jeff Ludow's running of the minor league program that started going to hell on the day he left for the Astros a few years back. He set the table for Matheny and Mozelic and whomever the current minor league directer of operations is....and they blow....big time.
  24. JP has been a fat turd of indifference since he got here from god knows where. He, along with the PED free Matt Holliday were dead weight on a meat hook and needed to be released. As far as GM Mo' being next on the chopping block, it would fulfill the dream of many Card fans. Even better would be owner DeWitt selling the team. Fans old enough to remember the 80's are dying to see Jose Oquendo or Ozzie Smith replace Matheny. But that isn't EVER gonna happen as long as the current regime survives.
  25. In this month 4 of the 5 teams have taken their turn in 1st. and there's no sign of anybody running away with the division so I concur that "It's getting VERY interesting" I will say this: That Cub team we saw last year is gone, never to be seen again. Arietta and Hendricks ain't having another career year along with the many phenoms hitting .300 with power. The defense is sporadic as well. Biggest change is having bad route, noodle arm Jon Jay in CF. I don't think Schwarber will end up sub-mendosa, but he has proved to be human. (of course, they could still win the division)
